Show the data in a frequency table.
12. Representing data using diagrams
• Representing data through piling
• Group Activity
• In groups of five:.
• Make a row of four different piles of Sh I coins.
• 2 Relate the height to the number of coins in each pile.
• 3. Discuss your observation and share it with other groups.
• Example
• 4 Maya had Sh 90, Fatuma Sh 130. Naliaka Sh 110 and Wambua Sh
150.Represent these amounts using piles of Sh 110 coins.
13. ASSESSMENT
1. Waliaula bought 8 mangoes, 5 oranges, 3 Apple and 6 lemons Using
one match box to represent one fruit, represent the fruits in piles.
2. The colours of 24 pencils in a packet were recorded as: 7red, 2
yellow, 5 black, 7 blue and 3 green.
Use match boxes to represent the information through piling.

15. One block represent one fruit
In pairs
1.count the number of fruit of each type that were on display
2. For each type of fruit, draw rectangles of same width anda height equal to
the height of the pile.
3. Discuss your drawing and share it with other groups.
Note
In the drawing, each pile is represented by a rectangle.
(i) All the rectangles are of the same width.
(ii) Each rectangle is a bar.
(iv) The drawing is called a bar graph.
16. Drawing bar graphs
• Bar graph representing small quantities
• Group activity
• The table below shows the colour of cars parked outside a
supermarket
COLOUR RED BLUE WHITE BLACK
NUMBER OF CARS 5 2 7 3
17. Use the table to draw a bar graph. In groups of five:
1.Draw a vertical and horizontal line and label as shown.
2. Using I cm to represent one car, find the heights of the bars representing
the number of cars for each colour.
3. Draw bars of the calculated height.
4. Discuss and share your results with other groups. Number

a)12cars b) 30cars c)100cars
Share your results with other qroups.
21. Note
• To represent a large quantitų using a bar of suitable height, useone
centimetre to represent a number of quantities.
• Example
• The table below shows the number of peopletreated in a hospital.
• Using 1cm to represent 10people draw a bar graph to represent the
information
day mon Tue wen thur Fri
Number of people 45 60 73 56 40
22. • Monday is represented by a 4 cm 5 mm bar.
• Tuesday is represented by a 6 cm bar.
• Wednesday is represented by a 7 cm 3 mm bar
23. Assessment
• The table below shows packets of maize flour sold in kiosks
• In pairs draw a bar graph to represent the information

24. Interpreting bar graphs
• Interpreting bar graphs representing small quantities
• Group Activity
• The number of motorbikes sold by a trader in five days is represented
by the graph shown.
25. In groups of five, use the graph to answer the following questions:
1. On which day did the trader sell seven motorbikes?
