       Most students are well connected to technology, information resources
        and networks when they are away from school and they rightly expect to
        learn in a school environment that mirrors this.

    In my classroom, a high percentage of students in Year4/ 5 –

       Instant message

       Play computer games

       Text each other on mobile phones

       Use face time or skype to speak with friends and family

       Use technology to complete homework, own projects




                 ESSENTIAL TO TEACH STUDENTS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

    Key Ideas and Beliefs
       : Technology is beneficial to all but essential for some for learning

       Technology is part of life - it’s not about throwing away books, pencils and
        paper but finding a new balance

       - Once students gain a basic technology skill set (if they don’t already have it!!)
        the skills are transferable

       - Digital learning provides experiences that are varied, interesting and
        accessible and also provides the opportunity to demonstrate achievement in
        ways which might not be possible with traditional methods.

       - Enables greater learner autonomy

       - Unlocks hidden potential for those with communication difficulties – spoken
        or written, fine motor, fatigue, visual learners, designers and creators,
        collaborators….

       - Blooms Taxomy – Technology offers many outlets for students to use higher
        order thinking skills: creating, analysing, evaluating as well as providing
        interesting ways to just revise and remember information.

    Technology IDEAS: Whole Class

       Simple level of technology integration:

       Many websites offer games (motivational) and visuals for
        curriculum content.

       Whole Class – projector / interactive whiteboard

       Guided Group- tailor visuals for specific groups

    Technology IDEAS: Spelling / Word
    Work
       Learning and revising spellings – visual activities / games
    Students can all be online but work on games at their level; This then gives the teacher
    opportunity to work with groups of students on specific word lists.


       Creating with spelling words and vocabulary – produce own
        word puzzles, word clouds; Share their work with friends,
        family…..

       Analysing texts for key words, patterns, opinions, bias…using
        word clouds.

    Technology IDEAS: Mathletics

       There is a cost for this tool BUT….

       Replace math text book cost with MATHLETICS!

       Set each student at their Australian Curriculum level

       Set students tasks to complete – as a group or individual to
        needs- you see their results

       It motivates students to learn – earn
        points, certificates, compete and achieve success at THEIR
        level

       Some students work their own way through tasks…..there is a
        help button that takes students to demonstrations.
Year 4 Student – Completed Yr 5 curriculum content

+   Lower Achieving Yr 5 student; Working at Year 3 level this
    year – Was struggling with Year 2 content.

    Visualising, Creating, Mind
    Mapping…..

    Presentations

       PowerPoint – most students will be motivated to present their
        writing and learning using this tool. It is a great tool to use in
        the classroom and it teaches the children many transferable
        skills. Creating for an AUDIENCE is key!

       HOWEVER, so many other options….for visual learners or for
        those who prefer to talk about their learning, digitally tell their
        story

       ALSO some students will master PowerPoint quickly and want /
        need new ways to use their creativity, to express and
        synthesize their learning.

  • 2. + Technology Age “How do you prepare for uncertain career paths where technical knowledge doubles every two years? You pay attention to the skills that surround the content…” Prezi  Most students are well connected to technology, information resources and networks when they are away from school and they rightly expect to learn in a school environment that mirrors this. http://www.education.vic.gov.au/edulibrary/public/teachlearn/innovation/tec hnology/web2report.pdf In my classroom, a high percentage of students in Year4/ 5 –  Instant message  Play computer games  Text each other on mobile phones  Use face time or skype to speak with friends and family  Use technology to complete homework, own projects ESSENTIAL TO TEACH STUDENTS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
  • 3. + Key Ideas and Beliefs  : Technology is beneficial to all but essential for some for learning  Technology is part of life - it’s not about throwing away books, pencils and paper but finding a new balance  - Once students gain a basic technology skill set (if they don’t already have it!!) the skills are transferable  - Digital learning provides experiences that are varied, interesting and accessible and also provides the opportunity to demonstrate achievement in ways which might not be possible with traditional methods.  - Enables greater learner autonomy  - Unlocks hidden potential for those with communication difficulties – spoken or written, fine motor, fatigue, visual learners, designers and creators, collaborators….  - Blooms Taxomy – Technology offers many outlets for students to use higher order thinking skills: creating, analysing, evaluating as well as providing interesting ways to just revise and remember information.

  • 5. + Technology IDEAS: Whole Class  Simple level of technology integration:  Many websites offer games (motivational) and visuals for curriculum content.  Whole Class – projector / interactive whiteboard  Guided Group- tailor visuals for specific groups
  • 6. + Technology IDEAS: Spelling / Word Work  Learning and revising spellings – visual activities / games Students can all be online but work on games at their level; This then gives the teacher opportunity to work with groups of students on specific word lists.  Creating with spelling words and vocabulary – produce own word puzzles, word clouds; Share their work with friends, family…..  Analysing texts for key words, patterns, opinions, bias…using word clouds.
  • 7. + Technology IDEAS: Mathletics  There is a cost for this tool BUT….  Replace math text book cost with MATHLETICS!  Set each student at their Australian Curriculum level  Set students tasks to complete – as a group or individual to needs- you see their results  It motivates students to learn – earn points, certificates, compete and achieve success at THEIR level  Some students work their own way through tasks…..there is a help button that takes students to demonstrations.
  • 8. Year 4 Student – Completed Yr 5 curriculum content +
  • 9. + Lower Achieving Yr 5 student; Working at Year 3 level this year – Was struggling with Year 2 content.
  • 10. + Visualising, Creating, Mind Mapping….. Student was able to stay on task, when was finding it difficult to focus. Spoke demonstrating a high level of understanding to teacher about Science in society.
  • 11. + Presentations  PowerPoint – most students will be motivated to present their writing and learning using this tool. It is a great tool to use in the classroom and it teaches the children many transferable skills. Creating for an AUDIENCE is key!  HOWEVER, so many other options….for visual learners or for those who prefer to talk about their learning, digitally tell their story  ALSO some students will master PowerPoint quickly and want / need new ways to use their creativity, to express and synthesize their learning.
