Artemis s Role In The Trojan War
Artemis was the Greek goddess of childbirth, chastity, virginity, hunting, and wild animals. Artemis
held so much power, she was capable of killing, plaguing, transforming people, or even healing,
which arguably makes her one of the most powerful Greek Goddesss.
Artemis s birth is associated with some conflict, as some accounts affiliate her to be siblings to
Athena, Ares, and Demeter. However, most professionals state she is the daughter of Zeusand Leto
and she is the twin sister of Apollo. This is the general knowledge everyone knows and agrees on.
While Leto, Artemis s mother, was pregnant with her. Herawas Zeus s wife and one of his early

She took the side of the Trojans. Just as her mother and brother did. They were widely popular
and very well known amongst the people of Troy. On the Greek s journey to Troy, Artemis held
the sea at a standstill which halted the journey. This was until an Oracle came and said they could
win the goddess s heart by sacrificing another goddess s daughter (Mythology).
Along with Artemis s power and skill, she was a perfectionist. In one myth, it is told that her
brother, Apollo, challenged her to prove her ability to shoot a bow and arrow. The challenge was
held at sea, and was that whoever could hit the distant target won the challenge. Artemis s power
was so great, and her aim was so perfect, that she hit the target flawlessly. No matter what she did,
she had to make sure it was the

Rape Culture And Its Effect On Society
The term rape culture was coined by feminists in the United States in 1970. The term itself was
designed to illustrate the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault, and how the
normalization of male sexual violence was acceptable. Rape culture can stem from the acceptance
of rape as a daily occurrence, manifested as a male prerogative. There is a hesitation by the
authorities to go against the patriarchal cultural norms, hence linking nonconsensual sex to the
cultural disposition of society. The patriarchal perspective of rape culture, embedded with gender
inequality and misogyny are passed through generations which ultimately leads to the extensive
institutional and social acceptance of rape. Actions which advocate sexist ideals are utilized to
justify and validate normative misogynistic perceptions. Rape culture sexualizes violence
inflicted upon women, as it serves as a continuum of a society which views a women s body to
be sexually available by default, deriving from the overall domination and objectification of a
female. The underlying cause of rape culture is localized as it based upon the social aspects of
culture. For example, countries with a prolific war culture tend to emphasize violence and
masculinity, and therefore rape is viewed as a normal facet of society. I intend to parallel the
element of rape culture to the enforcement of social rules and the conditioning of gender roles. I
plan on analyzing the notion that within the encompassment of

Summer Reading Chapter Summary
Other players in this issue of Summer Reading program s assignment range from Student
orientation leaders to the author of the book in question. This assignment created tensions between
incoming freshmen, upperclassmen and the school. A Particular Student at UNC who was effected
by this issue was Amir Thomas. He was a studentorientation leader. As an orientation leader he was
able to experience, thee precautions that the universityput in place to help the students who felt
uncomfortable with the assignment. Amir said that they gave us specific discussion points that we
could use in case we encountered student who were resistant, to try to encourage them to be more

The program is set up to make you open your mind to new ideas, because it is required in the
college atmosphere. If Converse College required their incoming freshmen class to read
Approaching the Qur an , it could create some discomfort within the student body because, there is
an astigmatism with Islam particularity in southern states, which is where most Converse students
originated. But I do not believe that Converse students would refuse to read their assigned book,
because they know that Converse values acceptance of any religion, race, and sexuality. But if this
issue did arise, I believe the Board of Converse College would take a similar approach to the issue
like UNC, by making the assignment optional to students. But still requiring student to participate
in their group discussion. The option would be up to the students.
In this case study, lots of questions were left unanswered. Such as were the discussion sessions
still held?, When FNP appealed the case were they successful?, and did this confrontation change
the way UNC approach the book selection for their Summer Reading program in years to come?. I
wish this case study included the answers to these questions. However, this case study did illustrate
how a prejudice toward a religion can effect even the educational

The History And Culture Of English Literature
The history and culture of English literature are profound in the literary writings from the
beginning of the Periods of Old English, Middle English, Elizabethan, Romantic, and the
Modern. All of these periods are named purposely by intellectual, political movements, historical
events, and artistic styles that are evident in the literary writings during their respective
timeframes. As an example, it is during the Old English Period (Anglo Saxon) where the
English language is born. The epic poem Beowulf is for certain the most influential literary
work of this period and possess national epic status in England. The poem Beowulf draws on
Christianity to change the pre conversion myth by elucidating the many things that cannot be
explained by science or the laws of nature, including things characteristic of or relating to ghosts,
gods, or things beyond nature, turning into a lesson on faith. Adversely, it is the Middle English
period where the influence of Norman language (drawn from the French Romance language),
culture and literature take shape. This period starts with the Norman invasion in 1066, where we
learn of a woman in the federal aristocracy, marriage viewed as a political act and the
introduction of courtly love. It is mysticism and magic that plays a role in the analysis of ideas
and stories of the Catholic belief during the Middle English Period which is evident in the literary
works of Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. A historically

Abolition Of Pennies
The U.S have been producing pennies for over a 200 years now and over time it has become
very useless to the society. A penny is only one cent and to most people that is worthless. Pennies
were more valued around the 1950s, when the products were very cheap to buy. As technology
evolved, and as products got more expensive, the use of dollar bills and greater got more valuable.
The abolition of the penny needs to happen in the United States. Because pennies are outdated,
therefore the United States should abolish the pennies, since there s no single products that can be
purchased with a penny. Pennies are so worthless in this new century, but yet the united states are
still producing millions of pennies every day. The U.S economy has increased

Antigone Essay
Antigone Essay
In any story or piece of literature, there will always be the main characters to fill the pages with
incessant adventure. The characters whose names appear on almost every page and the characters
whose actions the story revolves around. However, a story will also always have its minor
characters. These are the characters that contribute heavily to the plot, yet aren t mentioned quite as
often and are underestimated regarding their importance in the story. In the Greek masterpiece,
Antigone, the author Sophocles construed a myriad of minor characters that contributed to the story
in numerous ways.
Ismene, one of Oedipus daughters, was created to foil the main character, Antigone. Haemon, the
son of Creon, took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Antigone is portrayed as gaunt, washed out, and unattractive. With such antagonism
between the sisters, Sophocles presents drama by developing another form of rivalry and another
reason for Antigone to rebel against the law.
At the end of the story when Antigone was listening to her punishment for burying Polynices,
Ismene speaks up and attempts to be held responsible for the crime. She pleads with Antigone to
let her die alongside her, however, Antigone did not want her sister to take any blame in something
she had nothing to do with, so she disregarded her sister s pleas. Sophocles included this situation
because it was another disagreement between the sisters and added more controversy to the plot.
Sophocles included the rivalry between the personalities because it gave each character something
to act off of. Ismene s role was important to the plot because she played the vigilant girl and
provided the story with drama and second guessing by having contradictory opinions.
Secondly, another character that affected the story with such a minor part was Haemon. Haemon,
being the king s son, had a lot of expectations and generalizations to live up to, but he dispersed
them when he stood up to his father.
One thing Haemon did that influenced the plot was to rebut his father s opinions. Prior to
conversing with Creon, Haemon had a positive outlook about his father. He felt he was a good
ruler and was fair, yet those beliefs were

21 Day Challenge Research Paper
The 21 day challenge was a great experience for me, and I think it overall made me a happier
person. It was easiest for me to just set apart a time each night to journal about a positive
experience, write down three things I am grateful for, and pray. For me writing three things I
was grateful for each day was the aspect of this challenge that increased my happiness the most.
It is easy for me to just think about all the negative aspects of my life and not really think about
all the positives, so by writing them down each day it made me realize how much I have to be
grateful for. I realized that most of the day I would focus on the bad things that happened, so it
was nice to focus on all the good parts of my life. When I started the challenge,... Show more

Most of the time there are million things going on, so a few minutes to not think about things like
work and school was very relaxing or me. Overall I don t think praying made me much happier,
but it did help me because it was a time to just be alone with my thoughts. Completing a random act
of kindness each day was somewhat challenging at first because I would forget about doing it,
and I would remember later at night and have to do something before going to bed. However
later in the challenge I found it much easier to remember to complete these random acts of
kindness. After completing these acts of kindness, I felt much happier because it is a good
feeling knowing you have helped someone. I felt good knowing that I helped someone or made
their day a little better. Overall, I think this challenge increased my level of happiness because it
made me realize I have a lot to be thankful for, and there are many more positives in my life than
what I realized. When I looked through my notebook consisting of the positive experiences and the
3 things I was grateful for it was very nice that instead of just remembering the bad things that
happened those days I now can remember the good things. I have a lot more to be happy about than
I thought I did going into this challenge. I now find myself realizing things that I am grateful for

Analysis Of The Book The Eyes Of A Journalist By...
Sharp Objects follows a story through the eyes of a journalist named Camille Preaker. The
setting is modern day America, in the 2000 s, somewhere down in the bible belt south. Preaker a
white female in her thirties has a multitude of mental issues, two recounted in the book are
depression and self injurious behavior (e.g. cutting). Recently being discharged from her 6
month care at a psychiatric hospital for the aforementioned ailments, she is sent for work to her
hometown. There are two seemingly linked cases of young girls: a missing and a murdered one,
with the potential serial killer. On her journey, Preaker: encounters two love interests, discovers
that her mother poisoned her dead younger sister and herself, and that her half sister is the
murderer. Overall the women in this book are portrayed as crazy characters that take form
through a variety of mental issues. As previously stated the main character suffers from
depression and her cutting behavior; she is portrayed as a troubled, masochistic, unlikeable
character. As another example, her mother comes off as a pretentious, stale housewife whom is
also unlikeable. Lastly, the half sister of Preaker is described as a perverse, ostentatious, deceitful
preteen with sociopathic behavior. Women s issues appear through the lives of these three women.
It is the apparent paradox of Camille s demise at the end of the book, the pretenses of her mother s
insane behavior, and the half sister s actions fitting with a young,

The Pros And Cons Of The Fifth Amendment
The Fifth Amendment says to the federal government that no one shall be deprived of life, liberty
or property without due process of law. Due process is one of many protections the Bill of Rights
gives citizens against the government, and being a process the term suggests a procedure in its
method of protection. The Fourteenth Amendment, ratified in 1868, uses the same eleven words,
called the Due ProcessClause, to describe a legal obligation of all states. These words have as their
central promise an assurance that all levels of American government must operate within the law (
legality ) and provide fair procedures (Strauss, n.d.). The Fifth Amendment limits the power of the
federal government and the Fourteenth Amendment specifically limits the power of state (and
local) governments.
Under the Fifth Amendment, the due process clause has two different aspects: Many of the
modern due process cases deal with what is called procedural due process (fair process,
procedures), which concerns the process by which legal proceedings are conducted. Substantive
due process refers to the Supreme Court s examination of the reasons why the government
passed a law or otherwise acted in a manner denying a citizen or a group of citizens life, liberty,
or property (Lincoln University, n.d.). The latter simply refers to the concern of which particular
laws are applied during legal proceedings. Due process procedures do not guarantee the result of
government action will be to a

Purathrive B12 Research Papers
One of the most vital nutrients for good health is vitamin B12. It comes from animal foods and
is responsible for big things such as the synthesis of DNA and the sheath that protects the nerve
cells. There are lots of things you could be doing to deplete the essential B12 your body needs,
including eating an unhealthy diet, smoking, and drinking, but there are also things like
pregnancy and growing older that can be affecting how much B12 your body is getting. To make
it even worse, your body can have a hard time absorbing a B12 supplement, so it s important to
make sure you are getting a supplement that guarantees absorption, which is the promise that
Purathrive makes behind their B12 supplement. But, how can they promise that and is it really

that require you to put a capsule under your tongue and let it absorb that way. Purathrive uses

of synthetic B12 is added to foods, which forces the body to use energy to convert it into
methylcobalamin. With Purathrive, you can save your energy and get the good stuff straight up

Power Of Wealth And Class
Nicole Eilar Professor Simmons English 227 80, World Fiction 26 June 2016 The Power of
Wealth and Class Society can use anything to judge someone s worth, even through the use of
clothing. Putting the protagonist, Akakiy Akakievitch, in this situation, Nikolai Gogol
demonstrates this idea into one of his short stories, The Overcoat. In his story, Nikolai Gogol
uses an overcoat as an imagery to represent the classes, who holds the power, and the relationship
between the classes in Russian society. Gogol makes it clear there is an apparent difference
between the upper and lower classes by making the overcoat a symbol of class. In the beginning,
he is describing the northern cold of St. Petersberg, and at an hour when the foreheads of even
those who occupy exalted positions ache with the cold, and tears start to their eyes, the poor
titular councillors are sometimes quite unprotected (Gogol 5 6). By writing this, he is bringing
forth the concept that the poorer, lower class people tend to not have the appropriate attire needed
to tackle the harsh weather, while the wealthier, upper class is able to afford better overcoats to
keep warm, making big overcoats associated with those of wealth and higher job position. Gogol s

Gogol does this by writing about how coats could be associated with the wealthy due to the
lower class usually lacking appropriate clothes. One s coat also determines how society treats
someone based on appearing wealthy or poor. Since the wealthy are the ones that hold the power,
the coat is used as a symbol of power, and this helps to get people to cooperate and listen. Though
the upper class may have their inhumanity and the lower class their struggles, everyone is human
and will continue to strive in this oppression cloaked

The Negative Effects Of Indirect Lobbying
Introduction: Lobbying of United States politicians has been a thing in the country for years, often
helping businesses and corporations as well as citizens, directly or indirectly. But, as consumerism
increased in the recent years, so has the negative effects of lobbying towards citizens because of
businesses and corporations. Lobbyinghas caused a large one sided gap in how politicians use their
votes on laws, as shown, The National Rifle Association and other gun rights organizations spent
nearly $55 million in the 2016 election cycle to oppose or support candidates through independent
spending nearly 19 times the amount spent by groups promoting gun restrictions, according to a
tally be the nonpartisan Center for Responsive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The comparison of a savings, investments, and lobbying is shown by comparing sizes of each
object is in the yellow box sizes, as well as actual percentages. Lobbying is the ultimate
investment for companies due to how much the return value is because of the certain law being
passed, or repealed, as well as how consumers will react, for example, the amount of gun owners
and NRA memberships increased after President Trump repealed ex President Obama s mental
health check law.
Compromise
Since lobbying is such a beneficial thing to the United States, a compromise on how lobbying
should be dealt with needs to be made, in a fair manner, that can and might make lobbying less
competitive and lower costing. All lobbying donations and contributions should be made public.
The records should be public, so the citizens of the United States can be aware of how much
inflation and competition there is in the lobbying market. Making lobbying records public will
also discourage some companies in supporting certain things, due to the image that would be
established, such as ruining the good image of the company to make more profit. Lobbying
donations directly to politicians are not taxed at all, if not at a really low rate, and should be
taxed just as much as one s salary, especially since the money received is due to the politician s
job. This will often bump up certain politicians into

Taking a Look at the Gamble House
The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period
when the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to
engulf the marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant
reduction in quality and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of
the middle class. The problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all
identical and the furniture was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some
of the pioneers who disagreed with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The
Arts and Crafts Movementwas the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the
tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with
a creative solution to build a foundation for better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded
stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and other household items.
The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts
Style or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy
couple, David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry
Greene with specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. The brothers were inspired by the
concept of a total work of art, which was the primary focus during the Arts and

Philosophy for Children Essay
I. The concept of the Community of Inquiry
Central to the heart of P4C lies the notion of a community of inquiry. Originally a term from Pierce
to reference interaction among scientists, the concept of COI dominates the discussion of
educational revisionism as presented by commentators on the P4C movement. The key description
marking a COI is: a group (a social setting) of individuals who use dialogue (interaction among
participants) to search out the problematic borders of a puzzling concept (inquiry as philosophical.)
Implicit in the ideal workings of this group are two key concepts:
a demonstration of thinking that is caring (each member is supported and allowed to be an integral
member of the community), creative (new ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two of these controversial issues are:
the ontological nature of the individual vs. that of the community the criteria of a good reason (the
question of truth) or discovery vs. construction
It is important to recognize the presence of these issues within the P4C method and to explore
how these issues color our vision of that method. We will note certain tensions among writers
about P4C in terms of which metaphysical vision best embraces the ideals behind the COI. In the
sections below I will suggest also a series of questions that are provoked by discussions of the COI
which will hopefully lead to further reflection and dialogue with the P4C community itself.
II. Individual vs. Community
In his article The Five Communities (1) David Kennedy offers us a rich differentiation of a COI
into communities of gesture, language, mind, love, and interest. (2) The concepts of gesture and
language highlight the nuances of human communication that embrace physical stance, the
unspoken presentation of the body itself as response and the powerful nature of spoken language as
enriched by stress, pitch, contour and juncture (3) in addition to one s personal vocabulary and
idiosyncratic use of words. By his phrase, community of mind Kennedy attempts to capture a
phenomenological sense of mind as active agent immersed in a spatio temporal affective locus
which is ever changing. He draws a portrait of the situatedness of thought which nevertheless

Faculty will be required to implement two strategies in order to guarantee that community and

Transparent communication is essential between all agencies involved. It is not unlikely that the
involved agencies will not be able to attend all the town hall meetings. The faculty has also
considered alternate strategies for communication. These communications can occur via email, face

CEO and members of leadership regarding the developing program and curriculum. Information
pamphlets and newsletters will also be created. This will outline current changes. Again, faculty will
encourage many modes of open communication so that the agency s questions and concerns can be
addressed timely and accurately. This frequent and prompt distribution of program status will
promote understanding of progress as well as anticipated changes. The communication process

Post-Traumatic Stress In Relation To Holden Caulfield Essay
Post Traumatic Stress In Relation To Holden Caulfield
Introduction
Throughout life, an individual may endure emotionally and physically straining moments
causing the person to become downhearted, and or irate. These feelings are normal, but may
however become a problem when these feelings prohibit someone from living a normal life. An
estimated 5.2 million American adults ages 18 to 54, or approximately 3.6 percent of people in this
age group in a given year, have PTSD (Narrow, Rae, Regier). This purpose of this report is to prove
whether or not Holden Caulfield, the main character of J.D. Salingers s book The Catcher In The
Rye, is depressed.

Another significant factor in Holden s life was the suicide of James Castle, a schoolmate form
Elkton Hills. This is shown when Holden returns home and is conversing with Phoebe in her
bedroom. Phoebe asks Holden to name one thing that he really likes. At that moment all Holden
can think of is about two nuns he met at the train station and James Castle, The funny part is, I
hardly even know James Castle... (171). Holden kept replaying the incident just before James
died. James was a skinny little weak looking guy, with wrists about as big as pencils (170).
Holden remembers James [calling Phil Stabile] a very conceited guy, and some of Stabile s
lousy friends went and squealed on him to Stabile (170). Stabile returned with about six other
friends to try to get James to take back what he said but he would not take it back. Holden the
recalls what he did, instead of taking back what he said he said, he jumped out the window (170).
Holden is going through a really difficult time in his life right now and he is trying to cope with the
situations the best way that he knows how.

Indoor Tanning Benefits
Indoor tanning is no new fad to the modern world. The ease of being able to lie under UV lights
and tan to a golden brown, no matter the season, seems to appeal to people. Indoor tanning is much
more than just getting golden skin. While there are few studies displaying the benefits of tanning
beds, majority of researchers argue against the use of indoor tanning due to it s harmful effects.
Without the use of tanning beds, it was difficult for people to keep a year round tan, especially
during winter season. Many would spend endless hours outside during the summertime to get
bronzed skin, but with the invention of tanning beds, it changed peoples outlooks and they began
to use these devices to their advantage. The thought of being able to visit a salon to get tan
regardless of the type of weather outside seems to be highly appealing to many of us. Tanning
beds not only became popular for cosmetic purposes, but for medical purposes as well. ... Show

The Nuclear Of Nuclear Weapons
Before the Second World War, nuclear weapons did not exist. However, by the end of the
Second World War, this was not the case. The United States initiated a top secret program code
named the Manhattan Project. This project brought some of the greatest minds of the world
together with the goal of developing nuclear weapons. The United States successfully tested its
first nuclear bomb in New Mexico on July 16th, 1945. Three weeks later two atomic bombs had
been dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, the only use of nuclear weapons
in wartime. The atomic age had begun and the race to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful and
non peaceful purposes started around the globe. The United States was the first and only state to
posse nuclear weaponbut that has changed over the last seventy years. Currently the United States,
Russian Federation, United Kingdom, France, Israel, India, Pakistan, China and North Korea have
active nuclear arsenals. Attempts to limit, or stop the spread of nuclear weapons immediately,
emerged after the first tests in New Mexico. This paper will look at the effectiveness of efforts to
stop nuclear proliferationfrom a Liberal and Realist perspective, and will argue that Realism present
the more appropriate approach to the international system due to its explanation of anarchy,
cooperation, and power.

The Importance of Samuel Pepys Diary
The Importance of Samuel Pepys Diary
Imagine witnessing one of the most defining points in the history of England and living to speak
of it, Samuel Pepys did just that. Samuel Pepys kept a diary while major events in history went on
throughout his life. Pepys began writing his dairy on January 1, 1660 and concluded it in 1669.
The diary contained Samuel Pepys inner most personal thoughts and was only intended for
personal keeping but went on to become famous. Samuel Pepys diary is one of the most important
pieces of literature in England s history because it tells descriptive information about the coronation
of King Charles II, detailed crucial events in history, and outlined how people lived in mid 17th
century England.
Samuel Pepys wrote about many important things in his diary and one of those items happened
to be about King Charles II coronation. Pepys started writing April 22, 1661, the day before the
coronation. He wrote about the King s procession Ye Tower to White Hall which is where the
coronation was to be held. Pepys was very excited for this day writing, it is impossible to relate
the glory of this day (Samuel Pepys). He wrote about the party in the streets and the excitement
of the day. The following day was the coronation. The coronation day it self was a very glorious
and special day for all the people in England. Pepys wrote his observations on how many people
were there, praised the king and how marvelous he looked, and took into account the order in

Father Boyle s Loyalty To The Gang Members
Father Boyle should not give the information he knows about the gang members to the police,
because not only does withholding the information open doors to a brighter future but it also stops
new conflicts from rising. Boyle fought to earn the gang members trust and turning them in would
just be a step backwards as they will no longer trust him, or anyone else. When Venant states, ...gang
members would stare him down and even swear at him... we can see the extent to which the gang
members hated Boyle thus showing how difficult it must have been for the father to change their
perspective of him and learn to trust him. Father Boyle had to put in an extensive amount of work
so that these kids would trust him, it would be useless to work hard to gain someone s trust just so
that he can throw it down the drain. by giving up the information to the police he will betray the

A Transformation from Gracious to Malicious
Most people are kind at heart, but society s negative perceptions changes them. Mary Shelley s
novel, Frankenstein, portrays this concept. Frankenstein s monster treats humans kindly refuting
the stereotype that all monsters are evil. In this novel, the monster is kind towards mankind until
society criticizes him and turns him into a malicious creature. The monster that Frankensteincreates
has kind hearted morals, but because society harms him based on his hideous appearance. Because
of his treatment, he transforms into a murderous monster, pointing to the destructive power of
societal criticism.

The feelings of kindness and gentleness which I had entertained but a few moments before gave
place to hellish rage and gnashing of teeth...I vowed eternal hatred and vengeance to all mankind
(Shelley 168). The monster s use of the words destruction , miserable pain , hellish rage , eternal
hatred , and vengeance to all mankind strongly portray his detestation towards all mankind. The
monster showed benevolence, kindness , and gentleness , but instead he receives a bad reaction
from mankind in return. From the novel Horror, Michael Stuprich writes, Sympathy and antipathy
are our crucial responses... Frankenstein tells us that our sympathies, our antipathies, can be wrong.
This applies massively to the monster himself (who is rejected instantly, by everybody, purely
because of his hideous appearance)...as if to show that...just monsters suffer from this unfair fate .
(Stuprich 118) The monster s unfair fate illustrates the monster s appearance and how this
appearance leads to his demise. Everyone portrays a monster as an ugly, vicious creature. Because
of the monster s ugly appearance, society judges and shuns the monster, even though he is good
natured. People make mistaken judgments of others based upon appearance. They think they can
trust their senses, but this is not always correct. A bias equating ugly and evil turns people against
the monster, which causes the monster

Using Selective Media to Monitor the Fermentation Process of Cabbage and Cucumber, for

Abstract:
Introduction:
The goal of the ecological succession lab is to demonstrate succession with the fermentation of
cabbage and cucumbers. The cabbage will ferment into sauerkraut and the cucumber will ferment to
pickles during fermentation process that will changes the species structure and the community of
time. During the fermentation process we watched the pH become more acidic, since the desired
bacteria would produce lactic acid. The lactic acid would control by inhibiting the spoilage of the

Additional materials were, pH strips, test tubes, P 200 micropipette, 3 mL syringe and
fermentation jar. The pH was measured with the aid of pH indicator strips, to determine if the pH
was dropping or rising. The dilutions were performed with the P 200 micropippetor, the dilution
factors changes through the experiment, in relation to the bacterial growth and ranged from 10 1 to
10 5. The fermentation jar was packed with Вј of a head of lettuce and 5% salt water solution from
the sink. The 5% solution was achieved by using 25g of salt in 500mL of H2O. The TSA agar
plates were the control environments, one aerobic and the other anaerobic. The WN5 was for
the anaerobic and microaerophilic conditions and had cyclohexane and 5% salt that selects for
bacteria. The PS agar dish had CFC supplement (cetrimide, fucidin and cephalonidine) and
Irgasam. The EC dish had bile salt that selected for Gram negative bacteria. The LSA plate
allowed for the differentiation of lactobacilli and streptococci. All of the above plates were
incubated at room temperature of 25В°C. The plates were counted for formed colonies on the
following days: 0,2,7,9 and 14; also the pH was taken. The pH was taken by removing some of the
fermentation liquid and placed on the indicator strip.
Results:
The cabbage pH went from a neutral 7.0 to 4.0, which was relatively acidic. Refer to figure 1 and 2

Latent Fingerprints Essay
The visualisation of latent fingerprints is enhanced by the adherence of enhancement materials to
the chemical constituents found in latent fingerprints. The most common enhancement techniques
employed to improve the visibility of latent fingerprints are fingerprint powder dusting,
cyanoacrylate fuming and ninhydrin [Lee Gaensslen 2001]. These methods are inexpensive, fast
and efficient. However, these techniques may affect the useful chemical characteristics and
physical traces of residual evidence which can be obtained from latent fingerprints.
Fingerprint powder is commonly used on non porous surfaces and on fixed surfaces which cannot
be taken to the laboratory (e.g. windows) [Champod Lennard 2004]. This fine powder is easy to
apply with the powder particles adhering instantaneously to the greasy and sticky substances in the
latent fingerprint deposit [Champod Lennard 2004]. However, this method is not sensitive and will
only adhere strongly to relatively fresh fingerprints. This is because as the fingerprint ages, the
deposit dehydrates and loses its adhesiveness [Champod Lennard 2004]. There are also limitations
with the application of dusting powders. Over dusting a fingerprint may cover finer details such as
scars or smudge the prints, making it difficult to identify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Importance Of The CSI Effect On Crime Scene Investigation
Introduction Television has been around for years making money off of the public s interests.
Starring shows such as CSI Miami, Forensic Files, Cold Case, Bones, and many more

have given the wrong perception of forensic science and the procedures to investigating an active

Investigations are fascinating to the public and have been portrayed on television for many years.
These television shows have influenced how the public perceives the procedures of investigating

shows have on the public is called the CSI Effect (Shelton, 2008). The CSI effect can lead to jurors

Nathan Hale s Last Words
I only regret that, I have but one life to lose for my country . These were Nathan Hale s last

June 6th, 1755 in Coventry, Connecticut, spent much of his life serving for the public good. After

A little after a year of joining the Continental Army, commander George Washington came to

suppressed under and found that they are only being used as a tool of the white liberal
establishment; liberal whites have not begun to address themselves to the real problem of black
people in this country. The most important lesson they learned was that anything the white man
does is never in the best interest for the black man or community. This led to a growing rage
amongst blacks and led them to take a stand against the problems they faced. However, from the
testimony of Anne Moody, a black girl growing up in Mississippi, the black power movement led
to much tension and violence between the blacks and whites; After the sit in, all I could think of
was how sick the Mississippi whites were. They believed so much in the segregated Southern way
of life, they would kill to preserve it. The movement had instilled fear throughout the nation,

Zimbabwe Satire
Satire Reflection
The president of zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe is my main satire target. He was the prime minister
of Zimbabwe since 1980 after Zimbabwe became independent from Britain. He then became
president of Zimbabwe in1987 and still is by using fraud, voter indentation, and violence to silence
the people. He is also the head of state in the world. Zimbabwe has been declining over the years.
Currently, 72.3% percent of the population are under poverty line. Life expectancy in zimbabwe is
only 58 and 95 percent of the population is unemployed. Even though the country is near complete
ruined he still not willing to step down.
Article number one; Robert Mugabe clears up all the misunderstanding

This past rainy season there has been numerous floods mainly in southern zimbabwe. Since this
past December, 249 people have died and thousands are homeless. Many of the victims are
waiting for any international or government aid. The president has not sent any form of aid to
the people or hospitals. All he has mentioned so far was that it was a National disaster. This is
not suspicious as there are still many victims of 2014 flood who are still homeless and unable to
go back to normal life due to not receiving aids. In the past, Mugabe has given people aid that did
not benefit them such as a few bread and water or a couple of tshirts. I used situational irony,
hyperbole, understatement and sarcasm I exaggerated how useless his aids are by showing how
him dancing for them is the same as the aid he provides. Also the quote, We have said we will
never collapse, never ever. We may have our droughts, our poverty, but as a people, we shall
never collapse, never ever. is what he actually said about the people of zimbabwe, but in reality,
the people are collapsing and as time pass the rate of the country and its people falling is
increasing. Emmerson Mnangagwa, the vice president of Zimbabwe wants to be the president and
due to his background it is most certain he does not agree with Robert Mugabe ideas, but he
publicly says he supports the president s corrupt ideas in hopes of getting closer

Henry Ford Essay
Henry Ford revolutionized the American automotive industry and forever changed transportation.
Born on the morning of July 30, 1863 in a patch of Michigan woods, Henry Ford matured into
the founder of the Ford Motor Co. that made the Ford name famous. The Ford Motor Co. would
develop American automotive icons that continue to make a lasting impression. Henry s ancestors
came to Michigan from Ireland in hope of a new life in a New World. His parents, William and
Mary found success in America, unfortunately Mary died a tragic death after complications of the
birth of her eighth child (Lacey 11). At the young age of fourteen Henry is already interested in
industry and mechanics, he sees his first steam engine that gave him newfound... Show more content

Henry and Clara had their first son, Edsel on November sixth 1893, at the same time Henry was
working on making his own internal combustion engines and was being constantly promoted at his
job (Lacey 34). Henry s dream of the automobile started with the production of his first auto, on
June fourth 1896, the primitive auto was named the quadracycle. Not exactly a modern auto the
Quadracycle was reminiscent to a babbycarrige on bicycle wheels but was a start to Ford s
empire and the development of the automobile for the people. Many saw Henry s potential and
helped him to find a successor to the Quadracycle; one such person was the Mayor of Detroit,
William Mayburg who provided financial support to Ford to continue his research. Generous
investors such as this and the help of four investors donating 10,000 dollars each led to the
official founding of the Ford Motor Co. in 1901. In 1903 the Quadracycle s successor was designed
and named the Model A, the Model A was much more refined and technologically advanced.
Using a new two cylinder engine it produced nine horsepower and featured a two speed
transmission with a chain driven drive train that had a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour, and
sold for a pricey 850 dollars (Wise 77). Not more than a year later the Ford Motor Co. was
introducing new models, the Model C F were only updated model A s but the new Model B was a

Raising The Stakes
Raising the Stakes on Teaching Standards
Raising the stakes on teaching standards is the main topic among New Yorker s. According to the
National Association of Early Childhood Teachers, Educators Association of American Educators
(2015) the largest national, non union, professional educators all teachers should actively seek
new ways to improve a student s learning experience. The article discusses why teachers should
seek advancements. National Association of Early Childhood Teachers article is based on unity,

Community participation can improve education in the classrooms, however along it doesn t raise
the teaching standards. Teachers taking an active role in improving and changing education
learning strategies and policy laws does. Teacher s having significant roles in our educational
system, making critical decisions in our school s policy and seeking ways to utilize technology and
improve student s academic skills and encourage learning, raises the quality of education a student
receives. This difference can be as simple as finding new material that the student finds interesting
or as large as bring in new technology to the classroom. When a teacher seek new and intriguing
ideas for the classroom, that teacher opens a new and better world to explore for both the student
and the teacher. Students learn when teacher s enhances their leaning experience, developing and
maintaining advanced standards by seeking improvement takes the students to a higher level of
learning. The impact on the student s education by teaching finding new ways to improve the
educational system will have a long term effect on our children. Students who perform better in
school, will most likely perform better in the workforce therefore, boosting the economic growth
and strengthening United States economy. Yanushevsky R. (2011). The type of education that is
demonstrate in our school effects the quality of teaching. Teachers who demonstrate leadership,
seek constant training and demand professionalism inside the classroom, sets the pattern for
success. The benefits are phenomenal for both the teacher and the student, when the teacher seeks
ways to improve their student s education, they are motivating, making a difference in our

World War I Showed New Technology And Exposed Men And Women
J Taiya Carr3/21/16Chapter 25REFLECTION PAPER 3 World War I showed new technology
and exposed men and women to a new type of brutality. European countries were in a state of
disarray and America found itself searching for the meaning of life and happiness. Radical
changes will occur in the U.S. involving politics and social ideas. Some people were shedding
their old traditional skins to accept the new modern world, while others are trying to hold onto the
old ways of the world. The United Stateswas facing varied problems, racism between blacks and
whites rose during the famed roaring twenties, and modernism was the new trend. This was
America from 1919 to 1929 before its economic downfall. The United States was having varied...

A reason America disliked immigrants was because anarchism and socialism was associated with
them, especially those from countries with failing governments. Stereotypes were common even
then. Now, the KKK, which had become very popular in the late 1800 s, found itself with an influx
of new members. They called for 100 percent Americanism, which I am sure appealed to many
Americans at the time and only allowed white Protestants to join (794). It is known that the KKK
were fundamentalist, many people from the South but also other parts of the country joining.
Fundamentalism and Modernists were butting heads at the time, especially with the Scopes Trial
/ Monkey Trial was in the air. A school teacher, John Scopes taught his students about evolution and
was arrested in Tennessee. The attorney defending Scopes was Charles Darrow. William Jennings
Bryan, whom had been the Secretary of State, had recently denounced Darwinism due to his firm
religious views and supported the prosecution during the Scopes Trial. I believed religion was
part of the government a bit too much during these times. It is the same today because we all
want a president or government official to have the same belief as we do. This would almost
guarantee the laws we want being approved, such as a liberal democrat who support same sex
marriage would be in favor of Hillary Clinton now. I believe Darrow was focused more on whether

CPG Boot Camp Observation Report
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the 2017 CPG Boot Camp that will cover From
Economic Challenges to Transformation Opportunities. I believe the title is appropriate as
challenges must be thought of as opportunities. Currently I serve as rector at a nearly 150 year old
multi generational parish with an ASA of 52 in a ruraltown of approximately 5000 people. Similar
to other small rural towns in the south there are multiple churches in the area.
While there are multiple opportunities for worship, none of the churches are at seating capacity for
their services each week. This observation creates a belief that I would be able to reach without
difficulty new members for St. Luke s, creating growth opportunities in the congregation. ... Show

We have begun implementing ministry teams in the congregation, therefore putting some of the
tasks onto the congregation. It has been my experience that the clergy have taken on the majority
of these tasks. The priest does provide leadership and direction, however the priest cannot be
successful without the support of the congregation.
My belief that the congregation can embrace and is ready for changes is verified in reading the
parish profile that was out together two years ago before I was called as rector. One of the top
three items is Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reach new people and
incorporate them into the life of the church. As a priest that is comfortable trying new strategies
and directions, I find it refreshing that the congregation will likely not be resistant to new ideas.
Where I cannot compare ministry to my past career s, there are similar aspects I have used over
the years that can assist in the development of new systems and strategies. Leveraging my
understanding of data collection and analysis will benefit this process, as I have a firm background

Triangle Shirt Waist Fire, By Isaac Hayes And Max Blank
Triangle Shirt Waist Fire Only fifteen minutes away from being released after a hard day s
work, to enjoy a Saturday evening with their families and the promise of a nice Sunday off, 146
workers would lose their lives in New York City s worst factory fire ever. When the smoke was
gone and the fires extinguished, 146 workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory lay dead from a
senseless tragedy that could have been prevented. When all the bodies were accounted for it was
determined that fifty three had died by Jumping from the eighth, ninth, and tenth floors. Nineteen
fell to their deaths in the elevatorshaft while trying to escape the fire. More than twenty workers
would die when the overloaded fire escapes collapsed beneath their feet, sending them falling to
their deaths. The rest consisted of fifty workers who would become entombed within the ninth floor
burning to death before they could escape.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Company was owned and operated by Isaac Hayes and Max Blank. The
Triangle Company was the largest provider of the shirtwaist to the women of the New York area.
A shirtwaist is a traditional woman s blouse that resembles a button up shirt with sleeves. The
shirtwaist incorporated a blouse with buttons, a collar and a seam at the waistline which drew the
garment in. The shirtwaist was a stand alone item and sometimes was attached to a dress. The
Shirtwaist was made of several materials including cotton, silk and lace, having been created for the

Mary Ann Cotton Research Paper
If someone was asked to guess what England s first serial killer may have looked like they would
most likely think of a maliciously looking man staring blankly in front of them. In reality,
England s first serial killer does not fit the characteristics that one might expect of someone with
that label. Mary Ann Cotton was a mother and a wife but contrary to the expectations of a woman
and a member of the gentle sex Cotton was also England s first serial killer. English society during
the 19th centurywas shocked at the discovery of the crimes committed by Mary Ann Cotton and as
a result she changed the way humans viewed their drive for money as well as their expectations of
women. On October 31st 1832, Mary Ann Cotton was born in County... Show more content on

They all want money. Mary Ann Cotton grew up in a lower class family where they would often
struggle to have enough money to feed each themselves. Mary s crimes may have been ways for
her to finally have the money that she never had as a child. On several occasions Mary collected
insurance money from her victims after killing them which leads investigators to believe her
crimes were motivated by her drive for money. One of her first victims was her first husband,
William Mowbray and after the death of their 7th child; Mary Ann Cotton encouraged Mowbray
to get insurance in case of a sudden death. Not long after the insurance was taken out, William
Mowbray died of an intestinal disorder (Anandavism). Mary is suspected of murdering all seven
of those children as well as Mowbry, making it clear that this series of murders was most likely a
large plot to collect more money. In multiple of her mother murders Mary either collected
insurance money or was caught stealing her husband s money before she could kill him. The
lengths that Mary was able to go in order to earn money show s humans overpowering desire to
earn rewards especially those of monetary

Artemis held so much power, she was capable of killing, plaguing, transforming people, or even healing, which arguably makes her one of the most powerful Greek Goddesss. Artemis s birth is associated with some conflict, as some accounts affiliate her to be siblings to Athena, Ares, and Demeter. • 3. Rape Culture And Its Effect On Society The term rape culture was coined by feminists in the United States in 1970. The term itself was designed to illustrate the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault, and how the normalization of male sexual violence was acceptable. Rape culture can stem from the acceptance of rape as a daily occurrence, manifested as a male prerogative. There is a hesitation by the authorities to go against the patriarchal cultural norms, hence linking nonconsensual sex to the cultural disposition of society. The patriarchal perspective of rape culture, embedded with gender inequality and misogyny are passed through generations which ultimately leads to the extensive institutional and social acceptance of rape. Actions which advocate sexist ideals are utilized to justify and validate normative misogynistic perceptions. Rape culture sexualizes violence inflicted upon women, as it serves as a continuum of a society which views a women s body to be sexually available by default, deriving from the overall domination and objectification of a female. The underlying cause of rape culture is localized as it based upon the social aspects of culture. For example, countries with a prolific war culture tend to emphasize violence and masculinity, and therefore rape is viewed as a normal facet of society. I intend to parallel the element of rape culture to the enforcement of social rules and the conditioning of gender roles. I plan on analyzing the notion that within the encompassment of ... But I do not believe that Converse students would refuse to read their assigned book, because they know that Converse values acceptance of any religion, race, and sexuality. But if this issue did arise, I believe the Board of Converse College would take a similar approach to the issue like UNC, by making the assignment optional to students. But still requiring student to participate in their group discussion. The option would be up to the students. In this case study, lots of questions were left unanswered. Such as were the discussion sessions still held?, When FNP appealed the case were they successful?, and did this confrontation change the way UNC approach the book selection for their Summer Reading program in years to come?. • 5. The History And Culture Of English Literature The history and culture of English literature are profound in the literary writings from the beginning of the Periods of Old English, Middle English, Elizabethan, Romantic, and the Modern. All of these periods are named purposely by intellectual, political movements, historical events, and artistic styles that are evident in the literary writings during their respective timeframes. As an example, it is during the Old English Period (Anglo Saxon) where the English language is born. The epic poem Beowulf is for certain the most influential literary work of this period and possess national epic status in England. The poem Beowulf draws on Christianity to change the pre conversion myth by elucidating the many things that cannot be explained by science or the laws of nature, including things characteristic of or relating to ghosts, gods, or things beyond nature, turning into a lesson on faith. Adversely, it is the Middle English period where the influence of Norman language (drawn from the French Romance language), culture and literature take shape. This period starts with the Norman invasion in 1066, where we learn of a woman in the federal aristocracy, marriage viewed as a political act and the introduction of courtly love. It is mysticism and magic that plays a role in the analysis of ideas and stories of the Catholic belief during the Middle English Period which is evident in the literary works of Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The characters whose names appear on almost every page and the characters whose actions the story revolves around. However, a story will also always have its minor characters. These are the characters that contribute heavily to the plot, yet aren t mentioned quite as often and are underestimated regarding their importance in the story. She pleads with Antigone to let her die alongside her, however, Antigone did not want her sister to take any blame in something she had nothing to do with, so she disregarded her sister s pleas. Sophocles included this situation because it was another disagreement between the sisters and added more controversy to the plot. Sophocles included the rivalry between the personalities because it gave each character something to act off of. Ismene s role was important to the plot because she played the vigilant girl and provided the story with drama and second guessing by having contradictory opinions. Secondly, another character that affected the story with such a minor part was Haemon. Haemon, being the king s son, had a lot of expectations and generalizations to live up to, but he dispersed them when he stood up to his father. One thing Haemon did that influenced the plot was to rebut his father s opinions. Prior to conversing with Creon, Haemon had a positive outlook about his father. The setting is modern day America, in the 2000 s, somewhere down in the bible belt south. Preaker a white female in her thirties has a multitude of mental issues, two recounted in the book are depression and self injurious behavior (e.g. cutting). Recently being discharged from her 6 month care at a psychiatric hospital for the aforementioned ailments, she is sent for work to her hometown. There are two seemingly linked cases of young girls: a missing and a murdered one, with the potential serial killer. On her journey, Preaker: encounters two love interests, discovers that her mother poisoned her dead younger sister and herself, and that her half sister is the murderer. Overall the women in this book are portrayed as crazy characters that take form through a variety of mental issues. As previously stated the main character suffers from depression and her cutting behavior; she is portrayed as a troubled, masochistic, unlikeable character. As another example, her mother comes off as a pretentious, stale housewife whom is also unlikeable. Lastly, the half sister of Preaker is described as a perverse, ostentatious, deceitful preteen with sociopathic behavior. Women s issues appear through the lives of these three women. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of The Fifth Amendment The Fifth Amendment says to the federal government that no one shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law. Due process is one of many protections the Bill of Rights gives citizens against the government, and being a process the term suggests a procedure in its method of protection. The Fourteenth Amendment, ratified in 1868, uses the same eleven words, called the Due ProcessClause, to describe a legal obligation of all states. These words have as their central promise an assurance that all levels of American government must operate within the law ( legality ) and provide fair procedures (Strauss, n.d.). The Fifth Amendment limits the power of the federal government and the Fourteenth Amendment specifically limits the power of state (and local) governments. Under the Fifth Amendment, the due process clause has two different aspects: Many of the modern due process cases deal with what is called procedural due process (fair process, procedures), which concerns the process by which legal proceedings are conducted. Substantive due process refers to the Supreme Court s examination of the reasons why the government passed a law or otherwise acted in a manner denying a citizen or a group of citizens life, liberty, or property (Lincoln University, n.d.). The latter simply refers to the concern of which particular laws are applied during legal proceedings. Due process procedures do not guarantee the result of government action will be to a ... • 15. Power Of Wealth And Class Nicole Eilar Professor Simmons English 227 80, World Fiction 26 June 2016 The Power of Wealth and Class Society can use anything to judge someone s worth, even through the use of clothing. Putting the protagonist, Akakiy Akakievitch, in this situation, Nikolai Gogol demonstrates this idea into one of his short stories, The Overcoat. In his story, Nikolai Gogol uses an overcoat as an imagery to represent the classes, who holds the power, and the relationship between the classes in Russian society. Gogol makes it clear there is an apparent difference between the upper and lower classes by making the overcoat a symbol of class. In the beginning, he is describing the northern cold of St. Petersberg, and at an hour when the foreheads of even those who occupy exalted positions ache with the cold, and tears start to their eyes, the poor titular councillors are sometimes quite unprotected (Gogol 5 6). By writing this, he is bringing forth the concept that the poorer, lower class people tend to not have the appropriate attire needed to tackle the harsh weather, while the wealthier, upper class is able to afford better overcoats to keep warm, making big overcoats associated with those of wealth and higher job position. Gogol s overcoat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, as consumerism increased in the recent years, so has the negative effects of lobbying towards citizens because of businesses and corporations. Lobbyinghas caused a large one sided gap in how politicians use their votes on laws, as shown, The National Rifle Association and other gun rights organizations spent nearly $55 million in the 2016 election cycle to oppose or support candidates through independent spending nearly 19 times the amount spent by groups promoting gun restrictions, according to a tally be the nonpartisan Center for Responsive... Compromise Since lobbying is such a beneficial thing to the United States, a compromise on how lobbying should be dealt with needs to be made, in a fair manner, that can and might make lobbying less competitive and lower costing. All lobbying donations and contributions should be made public. The records should be public, so the citizens of the United States can be aware of how much inflation and competition there is in the lobbying market. Making lobbying records public will also discourage some companies in supporting certain things, due to the image that would be established, such as ruining the good image of the company to make more profit. • 17. Taking a Look at the Gamble House The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movementwas the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and other household items. The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style or the Craftsman style in America. Originally a term from Pierce to reference interaction among scientists, the concept of COI dominates the discussion of educational revisionism as presented by commentators on the P4C movement. The key description marking a COI is: a group (a social setting) of individuals who use dialogue (interaction among participants) to search out the problematic borders of a puzzling concept (inquiry as philosophical.) Implicit in the ideal workings of this group are two key concepts: a demonstration of thinking that is caring (each member is supported and allowed to be an integral member of the community), creative (new ideas ... We will note certain tensions among writers about P4C in terms of which metaphysical vision best embraces the ideals behind the COI. In the sections below I will suggest also a series of questions that are provoked by discussions of the COI which will hopefully lead to further reflection and dialogue with the P4C community itself. II. Individual vs. Community In his article The Five Communities (1) David Kennedy offers us a rich differentiation of a COI into communities of gesture, language, mind, love, and interest. (2) The concepts of gesture and language highlight the nuances of human communication that embrace physical stance, the unspoken presentation of the body itself as response and the powerful nature of spoken language as enriched by stress, pitch, contour and juncture (3) in addition to one s personal vocabulary and idiosyncratic use of words. The ease of being able to lie under UV lights and tan to a golden brown, no matter the season, seems to appeal to people. Indoor tanning is much more than just getting golden skin. Without the use of tanning beds, it was difficult for people to keep a year round tan, especially during winter season. Many would spend endless hours outside during the summertime to get bronzed skin, but with the invention of tanning beds, it changed peoples outlooks and they began to use these devices to their advantage. The most common enhancement techniques employed to improve the visibility of latent fingerprints are fingerprint powder dusting, cyanoacrylate fuming and ninhydrin [Lee Gaensslen 2001]. These methods are inexpensive, fast and efficient. However, these techniques may affect the useful chemical characteristics and physical traces of residual evidence which can be obtained from latent fingerprints. Fingerprint powder is commonly used on non porous surfaces and on fixed surfaces which cannot be taken to the laboratory (e.g. windows) [Champod Lennard 2004]. This fine powder is easy to apply with the powder particles adhering instantaneously to the greasy and sticky substances in the latent fingerprint deposit [Champod Lennard 2004]. Henry s dream of the automobile started with the production of his first auto, on June fourth 1896, the primitive auto was named the quadracycle. Not exactly a modern auto the Quadracycle was reminiscent to a babbycarrige on bicycle wheels but was a start to Ford s empire and the development of the automobile for the people. Many saw Henry s potential and helped him to find a successor to the Quadracycle; one such person was the Mayor of Detroit, William Mayburg who provided financial support to Ford to continue his research. Generous investors such as this and the help of four investors donating 10,000 dollars each led to the official founding of the Ford Motor Co. in 1901. In 1903 the Quadracycle s successor was designed and named the Model A, the Model A was much more refined and technologically advanced. Using a new two cylinder engine it produced nine horsepower and featured a two speed transmission with a chain driven drive train that had a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour, and sold for a pricey 850 dollars (Wise 77). Not more than a year later the Ford Motor Co. was introducing new models, the Model C F were only updated model A s but the new Model B was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

World War I Showed New Technology And Exposed Men And Women J Taiya Carr3/21/16Chapter 25REFLECTION PAPER 3 World War I showed new technology and exposed men and women to a new type of brutality. European countries were in a state of disarray and America found itself searching for the meaning of life and happiness. Radical changes will occur in the U.S. involving politics and social ideas. Some people were shedding their old traditional skins to accept the new modern world, while others are trying to hold onto the old ways of the world. The United Stateswas facing varied problems, racism between blacks and whites rose during the famed roaring twenties, and modernism was the new trend. This was America from 1919 to 1929 before its economic downfall. The United States was having varied... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A reason America disliked immigrants was because anarchism and socialism was associated with them, especially those from countries with failing governments. Stereotypes were common even then. Now, the KKK, which had become very popular in the late 1800 s, found itself with an influx of new members. They called for 100 percent Americanism, which I am sure appealed to many Americans at the time and only allowed white Protestants to join (794). It is known that the KKK were fundamentalist, many people from the South but also other parts of the country joining. Fundamentalism and Modernists were butting heads at the time, especially with the Scopes Trial / Monkey Trial was in the air. A school teacher, John Scopes taught his students about evolution and was arrested in Tennessee. The attorney defending Scopes was Charles Darrow. William Jennings Bryan, whom had been the Secretary of State, had recently denounced Darwinism due to his firm religious views and supported the prosecution during the Scopes Trial. I believed religion was part of the government a bit too much during these times. It is the same today because we all want a president or government official to have the same belief as we do. This would almost guarantee the laws we want being approved, such as a liberal democrat who support same sex marriage would be in favor of Hillary Clinton now. I believe Darrow was focused more on whether or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. CPG Boot Camp Observation Report Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the 2017 CPG Boot Camp that will cover From Economic Challenges to Transformation Opportunities. I believe the title is appropriate as challenges must be thought of as opportunities. Currently I serve as rector at a nearly 150 year old multi generational parish with an ASA of 52 in a ruraltown of approximately 5000 people. Similar to other small rural towns in the south there are multiple churches in the area. While there are multiple opportunities for worship, none of the churches are at seating capacity for their services each week. This observation creates a belief that I would be able to reach without difficulty new members for St. Luke s, creating growth opportunities in the congregation. ... It has been my experience that the clergy have taken on the majority of these tasks. The priest does provide leadership and direction, however the priest cannot be successful without the support of the congregation. My belief that the congregation can embrace and is ready for changes is verified in reading the parish profile that was out together two years ago before I was called as rector. One of the top three items is Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reach new people and incorporate them into the life of the church. As a priest that is comfortable trying new strategies and directions, I find it refreshing that the congregation will likely not be resistant to new ideas. Where I cannot compare ministry to my past career s, there are similar aspects I have used over the years that can assist in the development of new systems and strategies. Mary Ann Cotton grew up in a lower class family where they would often struggle to have enough money to feed each themselves. Mary s crimes may have been ways for her to finally have the money that she never had as a child. On several occasions Mary collected insurance money from her victims after killing them which leads investigators to believe her crimes were motivated by her drive for money. One of her first victims was her first husband, William Mowbray and after the death of their 7th child; Mary Ann Cotton encouraged Mowbray to get insurance in case of a sudden death. Not long after the insurance was taken out, William Mowbray died of an intestinal disorder (Anandavism). Mary is suspected of murdering all seven of those children as well as Mowbry, making it clear that this series of murders was most likely a large plot to collect more money.
