The Thin Blue Line Inaccuracies
The Thin Blue Line was a very interesting movie. I liked how the director of the
movie, Errol Morris, added in reenactments of the events that happened because
normally, documentaries don t include reenactments. Documentaries are usually
only compiled of interviews, and sometimes real video footage, pictures, news
articles, etc. from the time of the main incident or event. I thought the
reenactments made the documentary much more interesting and made it more

ABSTRACT
People are thought to be able to mentally rotate an object so as to be able to
imagine it in a different orientation. In this experiment partcipants were presented
with two three dimensional objects. Some of the pairs of objects where the same
object and some of them where different objects. Partcipants were asked to identify
whether the second object was the same as the first one in the pair, even though it
was shown as being rotated around a set angle, or if it was a completely different
object. The reaction time of the partcipant s was found to be directly related to the
degree of the angle of which the object was rotated.
METHODS
Participants

The object was rotated to one of 8 possible degrees in increments of 45 degrees
from 0 to 360. The structure of the experiment was that the participant goes to the
website and chooses the experiment. Then the participant is asked to give informed
consent and the experiment begins. The participant is presented with a pair of shapes
and asked to decide whether the shapes are of the same or different images (whether
one can be turned into the other by a rotation). The participant clicks a button to
specify whether the images are the same or different.
RESULTS
The results of this experiment are the mean reaction times that it took the
participant to decide whether the example they where presented with was the same
or different object. The means of both of the sets of data clearly shows that as the
angle of the rotation of the object increases the reaction time of the participant
increases. When these means are plotted on a graph they clearly show a linear
increase in reaction time as the angle of rotation increases. This continues until the
object has been rotated 180 degrees. The reaction time decreases linearly as the
object is rotated more and more. Overall the reaction time for the pairs that are of
different objects (where one cannot be made into the other through a rotation are
higher) however they follow the same pattern as the pairs that are of the same objects.

mortality rises with decreasing socio economic status. Three large sample studies,
one British and two American, brought together for their complementarity in samples,
measures, and design, all show similar social gradients for adult men and women in

observed both with educational and occupational status and are not explained by
parents social status or lack of an intact family during childhood. They are also not
accounted for by intelligence measured in school. This suggests that indirect selection

Abstract
In this paper, the effect of cryogenic (liquid nitrogen) cooling on grain size and
mechanical properties of Friction stir welded (FSWed) 2014 Aluminum alloy was
studied. The welding parameters and tool pin profile plays a major role in deciding
the weld quality. The threads on the tool profile generates a fairly localized
deformation which results high volume of material was stirred and carried with the
pin tool and also better mixing of plasticized metal. Cryogenic process (Liquid
Nitrogen) was employed after Friction stir welding to reduce the grain size and to
improve the mechanical properties of FSWed 2014 Aluminum alloy. It is observed
that the grain size is decreased to 250 nm under cryogenic process with the liquid
nitrogen by using Transmission electron microscope. It is also observed that
mechanical properties are enormously improved. The observed grain size and
mechanical properties have been correlated with microstructures and fracture features.

greater insight to the foodways of the Craft family and slaves residing on the site.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the artifacts collected, cataloged, and analyzed
thus far from the Hugh Craft house and slave dwelling site and compare the findings
to analysis of slave diets throughout the south up until 1860 to determine if the Hugh

Thesis Statement
The increasing use of computer technology in transportation will provide us with
much greater levels of safety and reliability saving potentially millions of lives, and
make personal travel and organizational shipping more cost effective. The fear of
placing our faith in the hands of automated transportation is unfounded. It
demonstrates an irrational fear of losing control to technology. Automated systems
are statistically more stable and can be regulated to higher safety standards than can
manual human operations. Given time and further development, autonomous
transportation will become increasingly more common and prevent accidents caused
by human error. This paper will show that self driving vehicles are inevitably our
future.

One major barrier in the implementation of intelligent transportation is that there is
a common fear of technology. In one study, only 37% of women and 50% of men
say that they would feel safe in a self driving car. On top of this 46% of those
surveyed believe that a driverless car is unsafe (LeBeau). It seems that the technology
is advancing more quickly than consumer comfort levels. This is common with many
new technologies and yet, with time can be overcome.
The ultimate solution to the concern about autonomous transport technologies will be
education. Instead of viewing the AI as an ambiguous, malicious, unknowable entity
