Students will create a Voki and have the option to make a Glog for extra credit. To ensure participation, the teacher will offer rewards and mark participation points. Students will be evaluated based on their contributions during class discussions and while working on their Voki group projects.
Assure (final project tuesday)
The class consists of 8 males and 15 females in either junior or senior year of high school. The objective is for students to learn about ionic bonds - specifically, they will use a webquest to gain initial knowledge on ionic bonds, the teacher will give a lecture using a created poster, and students will find examples of ionic bonds to pin on a Pinterest board. The teacher will ensure all technology is working and accessible for the planned activities.
ASSURE Method Day 1
Students will learn about pulsars through a multi-sensory lesson involving a Voki, introductory video, robotics project, Twitter reflections, and blog discussions. The teacher aims to engage the diverse learners through visual, hands-on, and social activities. Students will work in groups to build pulsar robots that rotate, gaining experience with technology. Reflections on Twitter and a blog will provide feedback to improve lessons. Comprehension will be evaluated through participation, robotics projects, and social media posts.
Assure method thursday
The teacher will teach students about Africa through creating PowerPoint posters and Photoshop images. Students will first read about Africa in groups and see example projects. They will then create their own poster and digital image in the computer lab, taking notes on the software. To evaluate learning, students will write about what they learned from presentations and readings and complete their projects. The teacher is prepared with backup plans if technology access is limited.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
