Searching the Internet (The good, the bad and the ugly)Hala Nur
This document discusses search techniques for research. It begins with an activity where participants brainstorm terms related to global warming. They then compare terms in groups and generate a combined list. The document instructs searching online articles using the brainstormed terms. It also explains how to use truncated keywords in searches, giving the example of using "child*" to find results including child, children, childhood, etc. The overall purpose is to provide guidance on effectively defining search terms and keywords to maximize results.
The document is a presentation about using technology to enhance instruction. It discusses integrating technology through multiple intelligences theory and Howard Gardner's eight multiple intelligences. It encourages teachers to use free Web 2.0 tools to connect students to communities and content of interest to help them learn. The presentation concludes with a collaborative group activity for teachers to create a lesson plan integrating technology and multiple intelligences.
This month we encourage our B2 First / C1 Advanced students to reflect on the future of education and the impact of new technologies on teaching and learning while our B1 Preliminary students can find out about the past to understand the reason behind the tradition of wearing poppies in some English-speaking countries. Our A2 Key students can practise their speaking skills while they familiarise themselves with the revised version of the A2 Key exam, which will be launched in 2020. Finally, the youngest ones can find out more about English-speaking countries. Happy teaching!

This document provides a lesson plan for a class on human impact on the environment. The lesson includes activities where students will identify vocabulary related to different natural places and types of pollution. They will discuss the causes and effects of pollution and human activities that contribute to issues like global warming. Students will watch a video about human impact on the world and complete a chart identifying places shown and the impacts they face. They will then analyze pictures showing causes and effects of pollution and work in pairs to research and create a PowerPoint on a specific type of human impact or pollution. The goal is to raise awareness of how human actions affect the environment.
This document discusses natural hazards and provides information and assignments about them. It defines a natural hazard as an extreme weather event that occurs naturally. Some examples of natural hazards mentioned are tornados, flooding, avalanches, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Students are assigned a project to research a natural hazard of their choice, with success criteria including describing what causes it, its effects on people, how humans respond to it, where it is found, and including an example, maps, photos and diagrams in their project.

It proposes strategies for integrating international content across curriculums using film and developing teachers' international knowledge through professional development.
This lesson plan is for a 5th year high school science class in Argentina. The lesson focuses on environmental problems and introduces students to several environmental organizations. During the 60 minute lesson, students will define environmental problems, discuss which issues qualify, and learn about organizations like WWF, Friends of the Earth, and Greenpeace. They will read about the origins and purpose of WWF's panda logo. For homework, students will research one organization's logo and complete a chart with details. Assessment will include questions about the content and comprehension of reading passages.

It provides information on reserving materials from the Media Lab for multigenre presentations and details for those presentations. It discusses the class' work on globalization, including defining the term, advantages and disadvantages, and how it affects lives.
1. The document discusses using videoconferencing to connect language learners in intercultural exchanges. It allows students to directly present and discuss their different cultures with partner classes in other countries.
2. An ethnographic approach is recommended where students observe and try to understand the cultural perspectives and practices of their partner group. This helps develop intercultural communication skills.
3. Some examples of videoconferencing tasks are given, such as comparing films or customs between cultures. Guidelines stress preparing materials, allowing discussion, and following up for maximum learning.
This document provides an outline for an essay on music and its influence on people and society. The introduction discusses how music is scientifically shown to influence the human brain and cannot be avoided. The three body paragraphs then discuss: 1) How music moves people's emotions and prepares their brain; 2) How music is used as a marker of cultural identity and social/psychological adaptation for immigrant adolescents; and 3) The innate social nature of music and its potential effects on behavior as well as role in ethics. The Webquest I have created incorporates technology and common software into a nature journal project. In this Webquest, students are asked to create a journal template and cover page using either Microsoft Word or Publisher. This template is then printed and ten two sided copies are made. It is on this template that the student will write detailed, reflective, nature journal entries that relate to topics in science. Five of these entries will be done in the "real world" and five of them will be inresponse to national geographic videos or virtual birder "birding breaks". this will allow stduents the opportunity to refelct on species and habitats in their own community and those in different places in the World. Once the entries are complete, the student will use Excel to create a table of contents that will accompany their journal. Finally, the student will create one slide in PowerPoint to accompany each of their journal entries. This slide can include digital photos they themselves took, or images found on the internet.
- An oil spill in the Philippines destroyed 200 miles of coastline, coral reefs, and marine reserves, endangering aquatic life and damaging the ecosystem.
- Students were tasked with researching oil spills and their environmental impacts, collecting data on organism fatalities from past spills, and proposing solutions to the townspeople for cleaning up and restoring the damaged area.
- Working in groups as characters from the ecosystem (organisms, oil, environmentalist), the students created a presentation with a powerpoint, data spreadsheet, and proposal letter to educate others on the oil spill and how to address it.
The document describes a web quest activity for students to research the effects of an oil spill in the Philippines. Students are assigned roles like animal, oil, or environmentalist and must research impacts. They then create a PowerPoint, spreadsheet of organism deaths, and letter to locals. Finally, groups give presentations combining their research. The goal is for students to understand oil spill impacts and solutions through collaborative, multimedia projects.

6. ConclusionConclusion
By now it's clear to the world that environmental
issues are really very important and need profound study.
The point of this WebQuest was to help you look more closely
at issues in the world, to see them in their complexity, not as
simple questions of black and white, all good or all bad. In the
years to come, as you cast your votes, the country will be
better off if you look closely and critique the issues
carefully. If we all do this, maybe we can prevent the
bad and promote what's good.
Remember, learning never stops.
