2. The Earth is divided into 4 spheres:
It is the layer of gasses around the Earth.
It is all the water on Earth. It is the solid layer of the
Earth.
It is all the living things on Earth.
Sea Bed: It is the solid bottom of the
sea. It’s part of the geosphere.
3. It is the solid outer
layer of the Earth.
GEOSPHERE
5. HYDROSPHERE
It is all water on Earth. Water can be found in 3 different states:
GAS
SOLID
LIQUID
Water in the atmosphere is gas.
It is called vapour (invisible gas in the air).
Water in the oceans is liquid.
Water in the form of ice is solid.
97% of Earth’s water is
stored in oceans. 1,7%
of water is ice.
6. THE WATER CYCLE
1. EVAPORATION: the Sun heats the
water from seas, rivers, oceans, lakes
and reservoirs, so that it turns into
water vapour and rises into the sky.
2. CONDENSATION: water vapour cools
when it’s higher in the sky and turns into
little water droplets.
3. PRECIPITATION: when water droplets get
too heavy, they fall from the sky in one of
four different forms: rain, hail, sleet or snow.
4. COLLECTION: water is collected
in the oceans.
INFILTRATION: water from precipitation filters
through the soil, forming underground streams.
RUNOFF: water flows downhill
back into the sea.
LIQUID -> GAS
GAS -> LIQUID
1. TRANSPIRATION:
plants give off water
vapour from little holes
in their leaves at night..
LIQUID -> SOLID (sleet,
hail, snow)
7. ATMOSPHEREIt is the layer of gasses that surrounds the Earth. It is important for many reasons:
1. It blocks the most dangerous
sunrays. If not, we would get
burned.
2. It traps heat. 3. It allows to breath.
Like the lithosphere, the
atmosphere has layers. The layer
closest to the surface contains
the most oxygen.
More oxygen
Less oxygen
Astronauts need a helmet and an oxygen
tank to breathe in outer space since there
is no oxygen there.
The Earth’s atmosphere is a
mixture of gasses, but mostly
it is made up of oxygen and
nitrogen.
8. ATMOSPHERE
We need oxygen to live, but we also
breath in other gasses like nitrogen,
carbon, dioxide, argon,… Since we
don’t need them, we just breath
them out again.
