The hydrosphere
1. THE HYDROSPHERE (all the water on Earth)
About 97% is salt water.
About 3% is fresh water.
We can find fresh water in:
1) The atmosphere (Air, clouds)
2) On the surface (Ice caps, rivers and lakes)
3) Under the ground (groundwater)
Water exists in different forms: LIQUID, SOLID AND GAS:
- When we heat ice (solid water), it turns into liquid. MELTING
- When we heat liquid water, it turns into water vapour or steam (gas).
EVAPORATION
- When water vapour cools, it turns back into a liquid. CONDENSATION.
- When liquid water freezes it turns into ice.
THE WATER CYCLE STAGES:
1. EVAPORATION: The sun heats the sea and the water evaporates.
2. CONDENSATION: Itgoes up in the air, whereit cools and
condensates. Itmakes a cloud, which the wind blows around.
3. PRECIPITATION: When it starts to cool, it falls down on the land.
4. COLLECTION: Itfalls down into rivers, seas and oceans.
