Music isn t just what I do, it s who I am, and who I ve always been. I play twelve instruments.
Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade
when I could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of
middle school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week
later, I changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments and I
mean all of them trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I ve
probably played it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the
saxophones. Again, I cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that
I would rather play notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very
irritated band teacher, to pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet.
Two completely different musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of

I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other
discussion board assignments. The mind map expanded significantly just from one idea, which
shows the strength of the word Terrorism and the problems that have occurred because of it. It

Saintsbury states that there is no attempt at an impression of growing horror culminating in the
horrible death of Madame de Villefort and her child. The interest is frittered away in endless
details and episodes (Saintsbury 1). I agree that Dumas was far too generous in his descriptions
and often times these descriptions eliminated all sort of mystery or suspense in certain events. In
fact, many of the events that were supposed to be suspenseful were drowned out by massive
amounts of words to describe one scene. The depiction of Villefort s apartment was written as, in
order to call Edouard, he had to awaken the echoes of that apartment transformed into a coffin; to
speak was to violate the silence of the tomb (Dumas 483). the description of the apartment does
provide a sense of creepiness, but the sheer circumlocution takes away from the overall feeling of
terror and suspense. However, even without suspense, the novel still maintained my interest as vivid
images of the scenes were still available rather than being replaced with something vague.

I think that it depends on what kind of a person you are. If you are really self conscious of
yourself and appearance, and think that plastic surgery is something amazing or magical , then you
might think that the idea of being able to become pretty at a certain age is great. On the other hand,

I personally hope that in the novel Pretties (the sequel to Uglies), Something happens that will
result in Tally not becoming pretty . Tally s character is so different and has such a broad and in
depth understanding of the problems that are in her society. Not only because of the lesions,
but her vision on certain things would change. Using Shay as an example, she always seemed to
have a negative view on the whole pretty transformation, but after the procedure was done to
her, she all of the sudden loved the whole pretty lifestyle. She even loved the way she look,
which is something I never could have seen Shay doing after having a procedure such as this.
One thing that I speculate is that the titles of the novels represent Tally s progression throughout
the story. She starts of as as an Ugly , than she becomes pretty , she will later progress to a special
(whatever that may mean, maybe working for or with Special Circumstances), and last but not
least become an extra . This is just a simple theory with no research to back it up, just a guess.
One thing I did notice is that they never actually saw Az s dead body, Maddy simply just said he
was taken for the operation and never came back, which means she was not sure what happened
exactly. I have a hope that he will actually turn out to be alive in the second novel and we will
see an appearance by him. I have no doubt in my mind that David will make a reappearance in
the second novel. I am also curious to see whether or not he chooses to accept that Tally was a

book of Genesis. Shelley uses allusion to point to the idea of the parallels between Victor and the
