Space pollution refers to man-made debris and objects in Earth's orbit. Some key causes of space pollution include collisions between satellites which can result in thousands of new pieces of debris, as well as anti-satellite tests conducted by countries. Space junk travels at over 22,300 mph and can damage other satellites and spacecraft through collisions. Potential ways to prevent additional space pollution include implementing collision avoidance by satellites and removing older objects from crowded orbital regions.

both the natural micrometeoroid and man-made
orbital debris components of the space environment; however,
as "pollution" is generally considered to indicate a despoiling of
the natural environment, space pollution here refers to only
man-made orbital debris.

When two satellites collide, they can smash apart into thousands of
new pieces, creating lots of new debris. This is rare, but several
countries including the USA, China and India have used missiles to
practice blowing up their own satellites.

5.  Space junk can impact other objects at over 22,300 mph, faster than
a speeding bullet. Collisions with those tiny pieces often leave pits
and dings in the many satellites, telescopes, and other objects
orbiting our planet.

6.  Two main approaches could theoretically be employed to reduce the
long-term creation of debris from collisions. These are (1) to decrease
the number of collisions by employing collision avoidance techniques
or (2) to remove objects capable of causing collisions away from
crowded orbital regions.

7.  As of 2020, there have been 15 astronaut and 4 cosmonaut fatalities
during spaceflight. Astronauts have also died while training for
space missions, such as the Apollo 1 launch pad fire which killed an
entire crew of three. There have also been some non-astronaut
fatalities during spaceflight-related activities. As of 2020, there have
been 30 fatalities in incidents regarding spaceflight.

 This includes everything from spent rocket stages , old satellites ,
fragments from disintegration , erosion and collision.
