One of the greatest contributions to our country's music industry was the creation of "Soul" music.
Soul music traces its roots back to African American gospel music. In 1865, slavery had ended but
African Americans were still not welcomed in churches that were for white Americans (Errey, n.d).
Because of this, African American built churches and within those churches they sang Christian
songs with their specific culture "rhythms and vocal styles" (Errey, n.d). These gospel songs had

Country music is everywhere in the United States. It is America and people either love it or hate it.
There is usually no middle ground. It accounts for sixteen percent of the nation's radio stations and
is the most common genre played on the radio. There are many different types of country music

Underwood wrote the song along with Chris DeStefano and Brett James. The water in this song
refers to the water of baptism and when it comes to "water," Underwood immerses herself in a
redemptive story–song, which tells of her decision to turn to God for guidance in the first place. She

The report below tells us about the information regarding music and it's classification. The report
also describes about the effects of music on memory and studying. The main purpose of my report is
that if anybody interested in opting a career in music field can easily get a lot of information from
my research work which will clear all it's doubts.
For my research work, I have used Google for half of my research work. The sources I have used are
lot credible it has reference page in it. Apart from that, I have preferred NAIT library to add more
information to my report work.During my research work, I found a lot of information about
categories of music and it's effects but was unable to find information regarding music on NAIT
library.

Music Plays A Influence On My Life
Music plays a tremendous role in my life and always has. From the age of five, my parents
introduced to me to one particular type of music, which was gospel and it has been a part of who I
am ever since. I can remember waking up early on Sunday morning hearing gospel music from artist
such as Kim Burrell, Shirley Caesar, and Mary Mary. I began learning these particular gospel songs
and then I gained the courage to sing these songs in church. At that moment, I knew singing was a
passion of mine and music became food to my soul. I would have to say the moment in my life
where I strongly became influenced by music was as a child between the ages of five and twelve.
Then when I entered middle school, I joined the school band. I played two instruments, the
trombone and trumpet. Although I truly enjoyed playing those two instruments, I've always dreamed
of playing the piano or violin but I never gained the opportunity to receive lessons. During the
seventh grade, I joined the Needwood Middle School Choir. We sung gospel music and Christmas
music during the holiday season. With gaining so much musical experience during my time in
Middle School, my church appointed me to Youth Choir Director for Salem St. John Baptist Church.
Overall, I prefer Gospel music for so many different reasons. One of the reasons I prefer to listen to
Gospel music is because of the messages behind this type of music. God comes first and he truly is
the head of my life. As a Christian, by me listening to

Christian Country Music Christian Country music can be defined with two variables the word
"Christian" and the word "Country". The word Christian in its raw state and referring to Jesus Christ
is to be Christ–like to be like Him. The word country cannot be defined so easily because it can
mean, a country as in a place on a whole different place on a map. For this purpose, it will lean
towards the south region in the United States. When combining the two styles of music Christian
Country is usually sung in the slang language of the country, clear in its message, and often tells a

the culture and music of the South. The South has two types of music, country music of the whites

Smith was killed in an automobile accident. In addition, one of the great male blues singers was
Muddy Waters. Waters was born on April 4, 1915 in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. His nickname was
McKinley Morganfield–Muddy Waters and was raised by his grandmother in Clarksdale. Waters
was raised in the heart of the blues music which influenced his life in many ways. At the age of 13,
Waters worked at a farm and learned how to played the harmonica. Later, he learned how to play the
guitar and mastered the "bottleneck" style. He recorded folksong with the Library of Congress field
collectors which helped him gain experience in performing and also helped improve his vocal skills.
Next, he moved to Chicago during the middle of the war and performing at house parties or small
taverns. He made his first recording with Columbia Records but they were never published. After,
he recorded with Aristocrat–later Chess–Records which include "I Can't Be Satisfied/I Feel Like
Going Home". He formed a country group and started to record the Delta Mississippi blues which
include "Hoochie Coochie Man" and "Just To Be With You". In 1977, he signed with Blue Sky
Records and produced four albums. He later died in his sleep in April 30, 1983. Another great male

Facts About the United States I believe most of us have been to a foreign country at least one time in
his/her life. Visiting other countries during vacation is a typical way to explore new cultures as well
as new places. However, there is no feeling similar to the fact that you are going to live in a foreign
country by yourself. A country you know no one living in. What makes this feeling even harder is
what you hear about that country. Is what we hear about the US true? Or is someone trying to get
advantages from distributing unreal thoughts about the US? I keep asking myself these questions
and yet I have no answer. Before I came to the US, I heard hundreds of thousands of stories about
the US. Stories that I would not have traveled to the US if I had believed in. And until yet, there still
are many people who believe in these stories. One of the most common stories is that American
people are hard to deal with. I mean, if they do not like what you say or if you do something they do
not like, you would get killed right away. But, after I traveled to the US, I did not see that. Well,
some people do carry guns with them at all times, but they never kill anyone. They just use their
guns for self–defense. So, if you do not hurt them, they will not hurt you. I believe people from all
over the world have the same concept, but I do not know why we ignore this fact and we only focus

One aspect that I analyzed in country music was the presence of religion. This is an issue that many
sociologists choose to analyze because of its relation to organizations and groups. In country music
there is a strong Christian presence and although it didn't occur considerably in the songs I analyzed,

All of these tended to have a major reoccurrence in all of the songs. The question I can now answer
is how does country music play a role into the fears and dreams of the listeners. In the lyrics there is
a certain kind of language that the artists use to try and capture an image in the listener's head. In
society, "Language gives mean to the people, objects, events, and the ideas of our lives. If fact,
language reflects and often determines reality" (2015; 30). The reality is that the language in these
songs gives to the listener can give them a dream of finding true love. The language gives hope to
the listener that there is that one person they will love out there, but this also plays into the fear of
heartbreak. Heartbreak was also discussed a great amount and is something that most people tend to
fear. Another way that these songs play towards people's fears and dreams is through social class
and money. While social class is one of the most common issues, the lyrics and videos manage to
give followers the images of how a luxurious lifestyle can lead to happiness and love. This can
definitely have a fear aspect to it as well because of how unlikely it is that a person will fall into the

especially children, to improve their intellect, when involved in music. Schools and organizations
had researched and estimated that schools with music curriculum, have more graduation and
successful rates than school that do not doesn't have music subjects. Universities have concluded
that a specific part of our brain had a major role that can progress to become intellectual when
exposed to classical music, and later on, was exposed to another conclusion, that classical music,
only has rapid effect in specific amount of time. Professors and theorists dispute with disagreement
that listening to classical music is uncertain and does not necessarily make people smarter. Listening
to other music other than classical, however, was proven to be more effective. Harmony Project is a
nonprofit organization that offers students who who has none to low–income, to play a music
instrument. They are located in Los Angeles, California and their mission statement are "Growth–to
promote the healthy growth and development of children through the study, practice and
performance of music, Community–to build healthier communities by investing in the positive
development of children through music, and Connection–to develop musical ambassadors of peace,
hope and understanding amongst people of diverse cultures, backgrounds and beliefs" (Harmony–
Project).

Therefore, a silent voice of justice, when it matters the most, will take us nowhere. In the United
States, freedom of speech is an important asset for growth. Many try to hinder its growth as a multi–
cultural country. Labeling rap music as violent, aids in the destruction of America by suppressing
voices, hindering positive changes, and preventing unity. Persuading people that rap music is violent
is damaging to the reputation of the African American community. In Joan Morgan's "The misogyny
of rap" she does not mention any form of positive rap music. This shows her focus is a specific
problem in certain types of rap music and not that all of rap is violent. If rap music is violent then
most categories of music must also label as violent. For example, Grammy–winning country artist
such as the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks, and Dwight Yokum, all have popular songs about murder:
"Good Bye Earl", "Papa Loved Momma" and "She Wore a Red Dress'. Regardless of its many
popular violent songs, still country music is not labeled as violent. Just like country music, rap
music has many positive styles: Christian, love and conscious rap. Therefore, this shows there is a
captious double–standard when it comes to classifying African American rap as a treacherous form
of music. Philip Bump, a national correspondent of the Washington Times, cross–referenced violent
crimes, and explicit rap popularity from 1980 to 2005 to show that the popularity of explicit rap
music has had a sharp increase while the number of violent crimes per 100,000 Americans continues
to decrease. Additionally, the United States sentencing commission reports show that black male
offenders received sentences on average 19.1 percent longer than similarly situated White male
offenders. Regardless of the Civil rights Act, Stereotyping and statistics prove the inequality of

After reading "The Seventies: The Great Shift in American Culture, Society, and Politics", I
acknowledged the argument Bruce Schulman was making. This book was about the 1970's in
America and the changes that occurred during the decade. Just like in the title a change in culture,
society, and politics. Schulman talks about the rise of liberalism in America after WW2. He talks
about that briefly, than points out the importance of the 1968 Nixon presidential campaign. About
how he pushed away from the government and more towards the private sector. Schulman mentions
that the 70's were nicknamed or known as "the lost decade". The main argument in Schulman's book
was that the 70's was not a lost decade, it was an important one that reshaped America for the better.
He supports his argument with several events that helped shape the decade. Schulman points out two
major shifts during the 70's the "Southernization" of the country, and the distrust in the government.

Schulman's argument is a broad topic and he could have gone with several different areas of

An Ending to Johnny Cash's Life and Career Johnny Cash, The Man in Black was a legendary
singer and songwriter of country, rock, blues, folk, and gospel. "He was a deeply religious man, who

Historically, genres of popular music have undergone dramatic changes due to changing technology,
social relationships with historical events, ideas and practices and the changing demographics of
listeners. For genres as diverse as country and rock 'n' roll, there have been many changes that were

Walking towards Mondavi center, I was amazed by how shiny and resplendent she was at night.
Having got my free ticket from the ticket office, I was led by well–dressed and kind staff to the
Vanderhoef Studio where the concert will start soon. Upon entering the studio, I noticed that rather
than rows of seats, there were round tables, on which little candles were dimming. Purple and blue
lights were shed from the ceiling. I thought this set created a vibe that was so Jazz. Suddenly I felt,
somehow, this was going to be a wonderful show that differed from all the concerts that I used to
have.
When I took my seat at the table, I had a chance to talk to my tablemates. They were an old couple
who were local of Davis but I forgot to ask their names, which was a pity. I asked how they got to
know this band. They said actually, they did not know the band before. They bought the membership
of the Mondavi center and chose to come to this show because the band played a bit country music,
which they loved. Looking around, the local middle–aged people and the elderly made up the
majority of the audience, plus some family guests so I thought maybe it reflected that while hip–

Johnny Cash, born J.R. Cash, was one of seven children born to parents Ray and Carrie Cash in
Kingsland, Arkansas on February 26, 1932. The Cash family was a farming family, hit hard by the
Depression of the 1930's. They spent a majority of their time farming to make money, and when
there was little to no work left to be done, the family would relocate. When Cash was two, the
family was chosen by the government to move to Dyess, Arkansas to grow cotton as a part of a
limited community working towards economic recovery. The family attended the communities
Baptist chapel every Sunday, which developed Cash into an inspiring Christian. At the age of
twelve, his best friend and brother, Jack, was killed in a table saw accident while working at an
agricultural shop. The death of his brother along with all of the negativity he felt in Dyess made him
search for an escape. He began to take long walks at night while humming music, and he decided
music would take him through all of his dark places. Cash attended Dyess High School, and after
graduating, he hitchhiked to Pontiac, Michigan to take a job at an automobile constructing plant. He
hated it and returned home a few weeks later, when his family decided to pack up and leave Dyess.

throughout his life, and how he overcame them. Some of Cash's elated and uplifting life experiences
were shown during the movie, but a majority of them were unfavorable, giving Cash a poor
reputation. It's main focus was on his drug addiction: how it began, how it worsened, and how it
ended. While it was unquestionably true that Cash had a severe drug addiction, Walk the Line failed
to expose the ways in which he influenced his fans and peers in a remarkable and memorable
