Be able to communicate
about media production
in discussions
Task 1: Name -William Holliday
Verbal Communication
 Verbal communication is when you communicate using
words and sounds. This is the easiest way to communicate
with people because you can go into detail with it and its fast.
NonVerbal Communication
 Non verbal communication includes sign language, body
language and gestures this is not the easiest way to
communicate because you can’t go into detail with it you just
can do the basics.
verbal
 At the start we all talked in a group discussing how we was
going to build the tower there was two ideas but we went
with the one that was going to be the tallest after the 5
minutes were up we finished talking and got on with the
building
Good Group Communication Skills
 Speak clearly so everyone can understand you,.
 Look at everyone in the group so they know you are talking
to them.
 Lean in so you look interested instead of slouching and
looking bored which is rude.
Consequences of poor communication skills
 If you go for a job interview and you walk in on your phone
looking more interested in the phone rather than the
interview you will probably not get the job. And if you speak
quietly the interviewer won’t understand you so he won’t
know what you’re trying to say so you will also not get the
job.
Discussion Guide:
 Environment

are saying. Make sure there is nothing to distract people so everyone is concentrating on
the discussion.

Discussion Ground Rules Resources:
 Agenda
To have a good discussion you should choose an agenda so people know what to talk
about this helps because people then won’t go off subject and start talking about
something irrelevant.
 Time
If you set a time of how long the discussion will be you won’t end up repeating yourself
but in a different way of saying it also if you set a time you can keep the other people
from getting bored,.
Discussion Ground Rules:
 Make sure you turn up on time.
 No mobile phones so you don’t get distracted
 Let everyone have a turn at speaking.
 Do not interrupt people while speaking,.
 Try and keep eye contact so people know you are still listening.
 Do not slouch because it makes you look like you are not interested.
 Make sure you have nothing with you that will distract you?
 Make sure it is a calm environment so people are calm.
Interacting with others:The Soler theory
 S = Face squarely, by doing this it shows that you are interested and it shows you
involved with the client
 O = Keep an open posture, make yourself look like your interested so don’t slouch
 L = Lean, Lean forward so it makes you look interested with the client
 E = Eye contact is crucial in discussions because if you have eye contact you look
interested.
 R = Be Relaxed, Being relaxed is also crucial in a discussion because if you are
relaxed you are yourself. And you don’t go of subject because you are relaxed.
Social Media Group Debate
 1.You must decide upon an opening statement. This
should state your opinion, position and the arguments you
will be proposing.
 E.g. Censorship is wrong because everyone has the right to
free speech.
 Opening statement: Social media is good because you can
talk to people all over the world fast and easy
QuestioningYour Opponent
2.You should have at least 10 questions that can be asked of your opponent.
These should be on separate sheets of paper or on note cards for easy reference.
The questions should be specifically directed to your opponent and should be
concise and clear.
Name some other ways people would communicate without social media?
Send letters
Send Emails
Speak over the phone
Face to face talking
Answering Debate Questions
3.You should have answers prepared which will be used to respond to your
opponent’s questions. Imagine that you are from the other team and determine
what questions may be asked of your team.
How would you talk to people quickly without social media?
If you had a business
Conclusion
 4.You should have a final conclusive argument/statement drawn
up which will be proposed at the end of your debate.
 When you have determined who will be responsible for each
portion of your team's debate, it is up to you to prepare yourself for
the challenge that lies ahead.Only one team will win this debate.
The winning team will: Have a solid background regarding all
material. Have plenty of evidence to back up claims. Be
creative/psyche out opponents.Outclass opponents/never give an
answer of "uh...."
