Communicating Effectively About Media Production
1. Raimond
Be able to communicate
about media production
in discussions
Task 1: Name _____
2. Verbal Communication
Raimond
Verbal communication is when you are communicating using
words and sounds. Actual talking is a verbal communication and
also making sounds like “wow” as well.
3. Newspaper challenge -Verbal
We had 5 minutes to describe how we want to build the
tower.
We were not allowed to use paper to show what we want to
build, only speak and describe.
It wasn’t hard because we easily agreed on what our tower
will look like.
Raimond
4. Non Verbal Communication
Raimond
Non verbal communication is communicating without talking or
making sounds. Non verbal communication is about using body
language, sing language and face expressions.
5. Newspaper Challenge – non verbal
We had 15 minutes to build the tower but we were not
allowed to talk.
We had to use non verbal skills to build pyramid
Our tower won ;D

Interacting with others: The Soler theory
S – Face Squarely by doing this you show that you are involved in the conversation. Also if
you can’t see the person’s face it means that he can’t see your face.
O – Open Posture. Don’t cross your arms and legs. It sends the message that you are not
interested in the discussion. Open posture seems less defensive.
L – Lean forward. This will show the person who you are talking to that you are interested
in conversation and you are listening to him. Don’t lean too much because you will look
weird but if you lean back on your chair it tells that you are generally not interested.
E – Eye contact. Keep an eye contact with people who you are talking to. This will show
them that you are talking to them and listening to them. This is also way to show your
respect.
R – Being Relaxed. It is important not to panic and listen carefully. Watch your hands,
don’t take your phone out to watch time every 5 minutes. Being relaxed shows your
confidence and
12. Social Media Group Debate
1. You must decide upon an opening statement. This should state your opinion, position and the arguments
you will be proposing.
Social media is good because it helps you communicate to friends that are far away from you
Social media is free
You can make new friends
Opening statement:
Social media is important because we are used to it.
13. Questioning Your Opponent
Raimond
2. You should have at least 10 questions that can be asked of your opponent.
These should be on separate sheets of paper or on note cards for easy reference.
The questions should be specifically directed to your opponent and should be
concise and clear.
How will we communicate if social media will be banned?
Do you not use social networks?
Why do you use it?
Are there more pros than cons?
How will we communicate to people on long distances?
Will you pay for my phone calls to America?
What are alternatives of social media?
14. Answering Debate Questions
3. You should have answers prepared which will be used to respond to your
opponent’s questions. Imagine that you are from the other team and determine
what questions may be asked of your team.
Cyber bullying? Social media can be used to solve crimes.
Wasting time? What would you do instead?
Raimond
15. Conclusion
Raimond
4. You should have a final conclusive argument/statement drawn
up which will be proposed at the end of your debate.
Social media is a large part of our lives today and it has more
advantages than disadvantages.
When you have determined who will be responsible for each
portion of your team's debate, it is up to you to prepare yourself for
the challenge that lies ahead. Only one team will win this debate.
The winning team will: Have a solid background regarding all
material. Have plenty of evidence to back up claims. Be
creative/psyche out opponents. Outclass opponents/never give an
answer of "uh...."
