Recent and ongoing space explorations include NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft becoming the first to orbit Mercury in 2011 to study its atmosphere and search for water. That same year, NASA's Dawn spacecraft entered orbit around the asteroid Vesta to photograph and analyze its surface. In 2012, NASA's Curiosity Rover successfully landed on Mars, the largest rover on the planet to investigate climate, geology, and signs of life. Also in 2012, NASA's Voyager 1 became the first human-made object to enter interstellar space beyond the Sun's influence.
