Soil is a vital part of the natural environment and is made up of mineral material, organic material, air, and water. The soil profile consists of horizontal layers called horizons that vary in thickness, structure, consistency, porosity, acidity, and composition. The major horizons from top to bottom are O (organic matter), A (topsoil), E (leaching layer), B (subsoil), C (saprolite), and R (bedrock). Soil structure is determined by the combination of primary particles like sand, silt, and clay, while soil composition includes approximately 45% minerals and nutrients, 5% organic matter, 25% water, and 25% air.
The arrangement of these horizons in a soil is known as a soil profile. Soil scientists, who are also called pedologists, observe and describe soil profiles and soil horizons to classify and interpret the soil for various uses. Soil horizons differ in a number of easily seen soil properties such as color, texture, structure, and thickness.

Until two decades ago the world looked at economic status alone as a measure of human development.
Thus countries that were economically well developed and where people were relatively richer were called advanced nations while the rest where poverty was widespread and was economically backwards were called developing countries.

Least affected by weathering and have changed the least

Colors are those of the original rock of the area.
