Socratic Method Of Teaching And Study Philosophy
1. Explain some of the benefits a student may gain by studying philosophy.
Some of the benefits a student gains by studying philosophy is having the ability to gain knowledge
and think more clearly. You learn skills, seek wisdom and get an understanding of our world through
various branches. Helps us appreciate where the world came from, where we came from. Using our
critical thinking we evaluate information and reach a conclusion due to the analyzation. We learn
ethics, what is real, how others see things. We gain cognitive, moral and spiritual development by
studying philosophy.
2. Explain the Socratic Method of Teaching. Is this a useful way for students to learn?
Socratic Method is a way of thinking that involves three steps, first step is you give an initial
definition, second step you find exceptions to that definition and you present them in a form of
question. Then the third step you give a better definition of the concept. Repeat all these steps until
you discover the essence of the concept. Socratic method has its pros and cons not every student
learns the same way it might be a good method for one student or might be easier for one but not for
the other. Everyone is unique and different.
3. Explain how critical thinking can be used to analyze a philosophical issue.
Critical thinking is about making sure that you have good reasons for your beliefs.
Critical thinking is used by reasoning and examining the information given to her person to analyze

Progressivist Teaching Philosophy
Progressivist Philosophy of Education
As a future educator there are many ideas or philosophies on how teachers should teach students.
Students learn best when they are able to relate to the material that is being taught. Cohen (1999)
writes, "This educational philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active
experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners that arise through experiencing the
world" The curriculum is based on the needs, ability, and experiences that the student has. From the
curriculum, teachers create lessons that influence their students to actively participate and encourage
development. The teacher is merely an organizer who offers encouragement as well as prompting
the students to use critical thinking skills by challenging them with questions. Students then use this
skill to cooperate in groups as well as discuss view point that they may not agree with. This form of
duel communication is a skill that allows the student to become more comfortable with their social
skills as well as team working.
Role of Teacher and Student
As a teacher the main focus is on the students. In the progressivist teaching philosophy, student–
centered learning is the focus. The progressivist style of learning not only looks out for the student
in their education but also looks out for their well–being. As a progressivist teacher, they allow the
student to make his/her own experience. From this experience, teachers use this as a way to get

Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and write, tie
their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of last school
year, I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she was
terminally ill and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her
parents were entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what would be
her last days. In those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For Avery*, there was
no next year; and the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of me. I slowed things
down and didn't push quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess, just because the weather
was nice and the sky was pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three stories in a row until my voice
gave out, because the children were loving the performance. I knew it was my job to be joyful.
Children aren't supposed to die. We all know and believe this truism. But the reality is, sometimes
children do die. Avery's* passing profoundly impacted not only my entire class, but me as an
educator. Her passing taught me that every moment matters. Whether a child has one year left in
life, or many, the memories they make now will impact their future.
This year, when I walked into my classroom on the first day of school, I could see her

Teaching is among the most intricate, eternal and beautiful professions and as a visionary and
cultural leader I know that education transcends time and place, deriving much from both social,
cultural context and individual style. I am committed to continuously improve my practices with the
desire that my leading example instills in my students and colleagues the passion and enthusiasm for
learning and teaching. I am a dedicated, resourceful educational professional who consistently take
part in training opportunities designed to strength and improve educator's pedagogical skills,
monitor policies and practices that promote a safe learning environment.
As a managerial leader, collaboration and good communication in the school setting is very
important to me because "Effective principals are effective managers. They must communicate,
develop relationships, and coordinate efforts of teachers, assistant principals, custodians, secretaries,
counselors, librarians" (Alby & Robbins, 1998, P. 16). In my district I lead for two years the
Language Acquisition PLC for middle schools and became an active member of the Building
Leadership Team, Standards Reference Grading Building Implementation Team, Educational Equity
Committee. State wide, I am a member of the Collaboration for Kids Oversight Team, World
Languages & Culture Team, Iowa State University STEM Equity Team and Outstanding Educators

The Four Elements Of My Teaching Philosophy And Philosophy...
I believe that ``A tax on gained knowledge is to disseminate it by teaching," which leads to the
unlimited expansion of knowledge. My principle philosophy about teaching is that it is a holy
message to deliver knowledge to anyone who seeks it, and this concept should make learning an
enjoyable experience. My practical teaching philosophy mainly depends on four elements: {bf
knowledge}, {bf encouragement}, {bf contemplation}, and {bf excellence}. The acquisition and
ongoing quest for and to share {bf knowledge} is key for any successful teacher. The {bf
encouragement} of student interaction is necessary for success in learning, especially the
encouragement of a student's {bf contemplation} on how to expand their knowledge based on the
material and always be thinking about new ways to solve problems. This process and involvement
can only lead to academic {bf excellence}. I can contribute to the success and happiness of students
through the practical implication of the four elements of my teaching philosophy. My ongoing quest
for knowledge will allow me to deeply interact with the class materials and student, and
communicate with them on their level of understanding. This balance between the knowledge of the
instructor and knowing the students' needs will allow for the appropriate level of challenge to
maintain interest in the class. When first approaching a topic to teach, I keep the students aware of
the big picture or overall purpose of what they will be studying.

Creating a multitude of experiences for students and focusing instruction around the vocabulary that
stems from those experiences is the foundation of my teaching philosophy. From daily exposure and
continuous personal research I know that poverty means more than a lack of money; it means a lack
of resources–financial, relational, neurological, social–emotional, experiential, and linguistic. It was
from this list of necessary resources that I developed my teaching philosophy and the strategies to
reinforce it. Currently, I collaboratively teach Pre–K with another teacher, two teacher assistants and
40 children. About 60% of my students are English language learners. I teach all subjects: reading,
writing, math, science, and art. Inclusive in the content are the social–emotional skills: patience,
sharing, focus, emotional vocabulary, standing up for others, using words instead of violence,
exploration, and the value of creativity. Collaborative teaching is a critical tool for balancing
efficacious direct instruction and observation/assessment. By choosing to team teach I have
provided myself with supports that make time for meaningful student–teacher interactions and
encourage daily reflection of student growth. Effectively, my students are impoverished of
experience: background knowledge. This lack of experience means they also lack exposure to a rich
vocabulary, to those one million words that middle class children come to school having heard and
often use.

The Statement Of Teaching Philosophy
My Philosophy
Introduction
"The statement of teaching philosophy (also called the teaching statement or teaching philosophy
statement) promotes reflective practice by encouraging instructors to describe their teaching
methods, to justify why they use those methods, to analyze the effectiveness of those methods, and
to consider how they might appropriately modify those methods in future courses." (Schönwetter et
al., 2002) Stake holder motivation, engagement, cognitive associations, and personal values are the
principal elements of education. The attainment of knowledge, standards mastery, and the ability to
reason come second to a student 's overall well–being. Elements of behaviorism, essentialism,
progressivism, existentialism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, many first drafts include general statements about learning goals as well as teaching
practices." (Kearns & Sullivan, 2011) Teachers are encouraged to systematically change declarative
statements about their passion for teaching moments in the classroom that speak of learning goals
and personal qualities. It is through reflection of experiences that teachers can build personal
expectations of themselves.
Review of the Literature Within a framework of teaching, educators focus on the nature of
knowledge and how students gain that knowledge. There are five established, major educational
philosophies. They are behaviorism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism and perennialism.
These philosophies greatly focus on what should be taught. Behavioral learning theories are simply
explained as reinforcing behaviors one would like to see repeated. Slavin states, "Reinforcement
will increase the frequency of a behavior with positive or negative consequences." (2012, p. 120)
The student environment impacts student decisions and learning. Positive reinforcement is the
application of a stimulus. Negative reinforcement is the application of a punishment. The role of
teachers in behavioral learning theories is to provide immediate and concise feedback of behaviors.
Teachers should provide tasks with small,

After completing this teacher interview activity, I am beyond excited to become a teacher. I feel this
way not only because Heather strongly agrees that teaching is an optimal choice of a young person
today but due to the passion she possesses for her job. As Heather described her classroom and what
it is like to spend all day with children, I just cannot wait until I am teaching. Children have this
undeniable excitement about them; everyday is a good day, as they do not have a care in the world. I
hope this positive outlook on life with fill my body everyday just as it has there's. Ultimately, what I
am most excited to do is make an impact on a child's life. There is no greater feel in the world that

have so that they can think back and say, that teacher changed my life. I know that this profession is

Philosophy, Interdisciplinary Teaching and Student Experience
ABSTRACT: This paper focuses on novel approaches open to teachers of philosophy in particular,
but more generally also to other university teachers, in the face of what Allan Bloom saw as the
waning of a literary culture. It is argued that, although some of Bloom's suggestions regarding the
successful engagement of students' interest–against overwhelming odds–are didactically valuable,
he neglects precisely those avenues from which students could benefit most on the basis of their
own experience in a world largely devoid of literary attachments but saturated with audiovisual
ones. These options are explored in some detail from various perspectives, including the difference

The reason behind this assumption is my belief that, even if Rorty were right that philosophy is just
one voice in the conversation of humankind – or one language game among others – and even if it
does not occupy a hierarchically superior position in relation to other conversation partners, it is not
one that we could blithely give up whenever we felt like it, as his own continued practice of it
demonstrates. To give up philosophizing would require that we first cease to be self–conscious
beings – not just conscious beings, but beings conscious of being conscious, or reflective beings,
homo sapiens sapiens. And the day we are no longer such beings, we would no longer be human,
and I could well imagine that philosophy would have no place in a world populated by such
unreflective creatures. Jean–Francois Lyotard (1991) has hinted – and I agree with him – that our
humanity is at present being threatened by an inhuman system of global development, but also that
the resources exist within us to resist the dehumanizing effects of such a system, even if, in the
process, we have to draw on something within us which is 'inhuman' in a different sense: the sense
of that which will always escape the various processes of rationalization (or 'normalization',
Foucault would say) typical of an

that through helping students to develop skills of critical reflection and critical thinking they will
become able to carry out innovative research and also succeed in work beyond academia. Through
interactive teaching methods such as group work, role play, and joint presentations I seek not only to
encourage students to engage with me as an instructor, but also to exchange and discuss ideas with

I also offered weekly office hours to provide the students with targeted feedback and help them with
their individual questions. Furthermore, I offered to get in touch with me via e–mail at any time and
regarding all questions related to the class.
A second course I taught as an undergraduate teaching assistant was the Introduction to Social
Structure Analysis of Modern Societies at the Institute for Sociology at Georg–August–University
Göttingen. In this weekly course, I made undergraduate and graduate students familiar with basic
concepts of empirical sociology and introduced them to different fields of sociological studies such
as labor market analysis, analysing educational systems, and studying migration. In addition, I made
myself available outside of the classroom via regularly scheduled office hours as well as providing
my students with my email address so that they could contact me at any time. Doing so allowed me
to clarify any issues they might have had with course material and to help with their individual
research.
As a PhD student, I designed a course together with a colleague for undergraduate and graduate
students. The course was designed for the Spring Seminar entitled Failed States – Problems and

Abstract When you hear the word "teaching". You may think about school and student. Teaching I
realized it is not an easy job, however it is a blessing when your students that were struggling are

that teachers should know that they are the guiding to all student's development, intellectual, social

Differentiation is all of these and more. As a student in the class I learned about the different
teaching philosophies, I learned what may fit me is it progressivism. Teaching is a balance of
science and artistry. Taking the information and creating lessons to engage and impart knowledge to
students who are reluctant learners and show them that they have the power of change within them. I
believe it is important in guiding the development of the children as individuals and help them
mature into thoughtful adults who continue to learn.
Worldview& philosophy of Life When we hear the world school or teaching or just discussing
education, we may hear teaching is a difficult job or why other jobs get paid more than teachers
especially when teacher deals with students every day. In 1982 in regards to the characteristics in the
educational landscapes, Henry Giroux noted there were "severe financial cutbacks, shrinking job
markets, and massive teacher layoffs" (p.87) However, some of these issues are still going on as of
today. Many teachers go on strike or just getting layoff because the jobs just do not want to pay the
staffs or a financial cut due to the economy. In my community I listen how an ex– teacher decided to

My Philosophy Of Teaching Language
My philosophy of teaching language is that in order for a child to achieve language they have to
have the desire to learn it. In my short time, I have overseen teachers implement a student–centered
learning environment. Learning in my future classroom will always occur within cooperative and
collaborative group work. Having observed this strategy, this strategy is completely effective and
positive to reaffirm and develop strong student–to–student and instructor–to–students relationships.
This only reassures and establishes an honest and sincere communication in classrooms. I would
also do my best to create a positive and enjoyable environment for my future students, which
motivates them to participate actively in the activities. In today's classrooms, I find, they are
becoming extremely diverse in socioeconomic, academic, disability and ethnic backgrounds. To be
able to provide a connection and identity with the English language only becomes a more
challenging task to achieve due to the diversity of the group of students. "Apply knowledge of
language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to make effective choices for
meaning or style, and to comprehend more fully when reading or listening" (Arizona College and
Career Readiness Standards). However, as my duty and responsibility as an instructor, I am
obligated to design activities that address the diverse abilities and needs of each and every student.

Teaching Philosophy: Lauren Gross EDUC 120 Learn to Teach, Learn to Learn. / Use the past to
teach the future ( That is my philosophy) Theory helps teachers think about what we experience and
furthermore to teach and learn about how we, as educators, learn. Teachers should be supportive and
cooperative, teachers should play the role of a friend, but also stealthily act in the role of advisor or
guide for students. Teachers should live by existing educational theories, but also be able to create
theories of their own. As captains of the classroom, teachers truly have an ability to see a student in
all of his or hers walks of life. A teacher can see what a student is capable of by way of independent
or group work and the progression students make over a certain period of time. Teachers and
theories stand as tools for understanding, and can serve as a lens for viewing the world and making
sense of it. Theories of children's play provide diverse lenses shaped by the many disciplines that
have contributed to our knowledge of play (Sutton–Smith, 1997, 1999/ Frost). Many theories about
children's play can be described in terms of rhetoric of progress, How a student is perceived is often
wrongly based on a teacher's bias or a small lens or section within that students total educational

That is very important in the classroom, I want them to look up to me for not only teaching but for
assistance, I want my students to feel comfortable with asking questions. I will be there to give them
feedback on whatever they are doing. Lastly is Cooperative Learning. This deals with students
working on activities in small groups and being rewarded on their group performance. I like this
form of structure in the classroom because some students work better in groups and they feel more
comfortable with working with others and it also gives the ones who do not work well with the
opportunity for them to be better at that.
Along with that there are also certain philosophies that I will use to guide me through teaching, and
the ones that I will be the most successful. They are progressivism, and behaviorism–positive

There are many students thinking about their future because they desire to be the great teacher or
professor in the future. It is necessary for each student to have trust and confidence to be able to
have success. Each professor has a special philosophy of teaching based on his/her plan and
teaching style. I have planned a teaching style to teach students in both practice and theory. Health
care depends on the clinical practice and if you do not have this knowledge, you cannot work in the
hospital and clinics. However, some students do not choose to work in the hospital and wish to focus
on the theory and education. When I graduated from college, I never planned to study at the master's
level. However, after working four years in the hospital setting, I decided to apply for a master's
degree so that I could become a professor. Some professors know and understand about students
circumstances, because already those professors were students. In this case, teachers can teach and
give significant information to their students. Students do not have the same abilities, and they
cannot achieve the same level of success.

This method includes stressing core classes such as reading, mathematics, science, social studies,
and writing. This particular method was the foundation for most of my education. Teachers are
represented as strong role models within essentialism. Having a positive role model is an essential
portion of a child's education and I will work diligently to provide this experience for my students.
The third philosophy that I plan to utilize is social reconstructionism. Social reconstructionism was
praised by many of the great educators in history such as: Plato, Augustine, Karl Marx, John Dewey,
and many more. This particular philosophy encourages the educators to teach students to focus on
finding solutions for the social issues that are a part of our society. Society is plagued with many
social problems. Education is essential for future generations. As an educator, it is my responsibility
to ensure my student's possess strong problem solving skills. These skills will be beneficial to the
students during the education process as well as in their roles within society.
Finally, I have chosen progressivism. This method was developed by John Dewey, Ella Young, and
Francis Parker. Progressivism is a very interactive form of education. Children are exposed to real
world experiences and encouraged to develop questions and find answers or solutions for these
experiences. I believe that

In my classroom, although the students will vary from ages 5 to 13, I would like to set an example
for the students to follow. At that age, children establish who they are and what they believe in terms
to what they are taught and how they are taught according to Freudian philosophy as well as my

more time with the child than the parent(s) especially in today's society of economic demands.

Plato 's Teachings Of Philosophy
Plato was a well known philosopher who lived during the time of the distinguished Greek
philosophers. He was born into a wealthy and very noble family in the Athens. In the midst of
preparation for his life long career as a politician, the young Plato witnessed the trial and eventual
execution of Socrates. Little did he or anyone know this would ultimately lead him to completely
abandon his political career and become one of the world's most distinguished philosophers.
Although Plato's teachings are not universally agreed upon, virtually anyone can agree that that he
was a brilliant thinker and spurred many thoughts and beliefs that are carried into today's teachings
of philosophy. While the precise relationship of Plato and Socrates remains a heated disagreement
among scholars, Plato states that he was, in fact, a devoted follower of Socrates. Plato was highly
influenced by Socrates' teachings and highly disturbed by his execution, eventually leading him to
establish an extremely powerful body of intellectual work. Plato is known to be a great writer as
well as teacher. Some of Plato's most famous teachings and writings had to do with his powerful
argument that was in favor of the objectivity of values. He taught that objective values are those that
exist outside the individual and are otherwise dependent upon their individual perception or personal
belief. This can include truth, beauty, as well as good. Some other distinguished philosophers have

In his class, the students were actively engaged in the classroom since they had to be on top of their
work and be ready to learn in class. Another example of a teacher that has influenced me in the style
of teaching is one of the teachers I visited during the observations. The teacher kept the class
interesting and fun, while keeping control of the class, in respect to order and conduct. He also
demonstrated a sincere and strong sense of community by letting his students know that if they ever
need advice or someone to talk to, he will be available for them at any time of the day. Furthermore,
teaching in a democratic society gives educators some opportunity to teach students about different
societal issues and the necessary skills to be a critical and logical thinker. First, I believe that
teaching in a democracy is an opportunity to educate children and make them aware of the varied
problems our society faces such as, economic inequalities, racism and prejudices against people
from different cultural backgrounds. In addition, I believe schooling is one of the crucial roads most
people need to take to improve their quality of life, by improving their socioeconomic status.
Furthermore, I believe teaching is an imperative job which positively contribute to the growth of a
community. I think it is imperative to focus on the education of minorities. For instance, most
Latinos and African Americans live in poverty and one of the ways out one could leave

My Philosophy of Teaching Essay
My Philosophy of Teaching
Education is an important aspect in the lives of all individuals. From the day we are born until the
day we die, we are constantly learning. At a very young age, children begin attending school.
Throughout their educational career, children have many different teachers who hold many different
views, beliefs, and values. Methods of instruction, personalities, and classroom interaction are all
unique to the teacher. Some teachers may come in each day just because it's their job, and they need
the paycheck. Yet, the ones who are there for the success of their students are the ones who truly
make a difference.
I believe the success of a student depends tremendously on the teacher. ... Show more content on

Teachers should pass this enthusiasm onto their students and gain their interest in the subject.
Children need teachers who care about them, teachers who love them. When a student knows you
care, they are more likely to succeed.
Teachers should have confidence in their students. They should set high expectations for all
students, and then give them the support and encouragement they need to obtain those expectations.
Teachers should praise students. They need to create a comfortable learning environment where
students can make mistakes. Mistakes are a part of learning. As a child my mother always told me,
"Practice makes perfect" and "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." At times, students may
become frustrated. Teachers need to encourage their students and give them positive reinforcement.
They should help their students to never give up.
At times, even the best teachers may not be coming through to their students. What may seem like
the perfect lesson plan for one class may not be such a success in another. Yet good teachers have
the ability to recognize this. They monitor and adjust. Teachers need to observe their students to see
if the lesson is coming through to them. If it is not, the teacher should not give up and move on to
new material. They need to adjust, and reteach the lesson in a way that will come though to the

My Teaching Philosophy : My Philosophy Of Teaching
My teaching philosophy is to create an environment that stimulates learning so that students gain the
necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to become proficient professionals. While teaching
foundational knowledge is important, there are other essential skills and abilities that students must
acquire in order to successfully transition from being a student to becoming a physical therapy
professional. These skills and abilities include thinking critically as well as interacting and
communicating effectively with patients and other health care practitioners. I emphasize to students
that it is imperative to realize the impact of developing a therapeutic rapport with patients while
providing quality, patient–centered care to optimize the healing process. Therefore, when deciding
what to teach, I not only consider the content presented, but also how I can foster discussions with
students so that they can apply information based on varying contextual factors. I also attempt to
provide students a framework for how to achieve professional excellence, which I aim to model as I
fulfill my roles and responsibilities as a teacher and provider of clinical instruction. This framework
is rooted in five central tenets:
Practicing lifelong learning
Promoting engaged and meaningful educational interactions, including communicating as a member
of an interprofessional team
Inspiring critical thinking
Establishing clear expectations and effectively communicating

My Teaching Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching English
In my future career I aspire to teach English for Specific Purposes. These purposes can include
academic English, scientific English, or possibly medical English. I hope to inspire adults to expand
their profession or young adults to pursue a career related to the topic of English, so that they might
share and gain knowledge with others around the world. These students may come from various
backgrounds and L1s (depending on where I teach) and will likely be in an EFL context. Unless I
teach in Canada, and then that would be an ESL classroom.
My speaking philosophy is composed of five main principles. These beliefs have been established
through time spent in classes with reflection on theories, and through personal experiences in
interacting with ESL students.
1. My first belief is that students should use the language authentically.
Students enjoy genuine interactions with people, and that is why they are often motivated to learn a
language, to communicate. In order to communicate, they need to understand how people speak
within that language. Classroom English is not sufficient in the "real" world and will not help
students. Therefore, if I am teaching science English, then I will have the students go to science ...

In order to combat that, the classroom should be comfortable and inviting to every student. It is vital
that students are given opportunities to speak with each other through various assignments and
activities. They should get to know each so that any embarrassment is minimized. Because speaking
can be very stressful, especially in situations with many colleagues listening (as a medical
professional or any type of professional will encounter), students should be able to have fun and
enjoy the learning experience. It may be hard and stressful, but moments of enjoyment will help
students from burning out or feeling too

Once an individual becomes an educator, it is their duty to coach and help demonstrate as mentors.
Mentors then become involved in the fundamentals of student growth where the art of learning is
never over, especially for the teacher. Teachers can use a lesson plan to help facilitate student
learning in which students collaborate with their mentors to establish a relationship with the mentors
and then teachers and students become active participants in the learning community. There is
always something to learn from the students, from other educators, and from the world in general.

This approach will allow students to fully understand the dynamic roles between the teacher and
student. The skills educators must develop will assist the student's role into becoming appreciative
because they must consider teaching to be a lifestyle, not just a paycheck. A teacher's goal should be
a trusted profession with the education of a young mind and must provide a quality education to all.
Teachers should equip their students the necessary tools for different levels of knowledge and
understanding, and for success in life. I think it is important for effective learning and teaching to
first establish a mutually respectful honest relationship with students. Communication and honesty
should become the first or highest priority and put into the method of teaching. Teamwork should
also be put into demonstration in the classroom in order for students to prepare for adult interaction
in the future. All students learn at different paces. Through the traditional structures of education, a
proper curriculum should be constructed for the students. Although the traditional structural
framework should be built on NEA's Committee of Ten, students should also learn the basic
common facts for intellectual and emotional development. I also believe that assessment in the
classroom should be constant where students would have the chance to be graded through
presentations,

My Teaching Philosophy
Since the beginning of my academic career, teaching has always been an important part of my
academic duties.
The interaction that I have with students is not only enjoyable to me, but it also gives me an
invaluable perspective on the subjects I am teaching. Since I started my position at the Mathematical
Institute at the University of
Oxford, I have tutored in four classes across three semesters and supervised two projects, as detailed
in my CV.
I am also tutoring two new undergraduate classes in the first semester of 2017. I was also a teaching
assistant to my PhD advisor for various classes and given have given multiple practical short–

I was particularly happy when a student would give a solution that is different from the one I had in
mind. In that instance, I would encourage the student to give further details and I would ask other
students if they had other methods. This ensured that the students were not only engaged but
actively contributing to the lecture. Even though student engagement is easier to accomplish in
smaller classrooms, it is even more important in larger classrooms where students' voices drown in
the hollow of the lecture hall. Ensuring that at least a portion of the students is engaged will
encourage certain students to ask questions which are likely to be on the mind of other, more
reserved, students.
In my opinion, learning in a class should simulate scientific research as much as possible. When a
researcher in mathematics studies a new subject, she starts with an observation, makes a conjecture,
verifies the conjecture with experiments and finally, formulates a generalisation with a proof. This
process enforces a context which the researcher keep referring to, namely the original example. The
result is a deeper understanding of the concepts and the ability to predict the future ones. As a
teacher, I try to simulate a faster version of this research process.
I try to start from simple examples that demonstrate some aspect of the topic. I then try to make the

My Teaching Philosophy Of Teaching For Physical Education
EPE 100 has not only taught me so much about becoming a teacher but a ton about myself. Prior to
EPE 100, I felt as though I had a solid understanding of what it meant to be a physical education
teacher. Do a quick warm up, Rally the students, put them into teams, explain the rules and let them
go at it. Man oh man was I wrong. Throughout readings, assignments, and practice I now believe to
have a much better understanding of what it means to be a physical education teacher. There has
been three major ideas that have begun to influence my teaching philosophy; Teaching for physical
literacy and skill development not just sports, embracing physical activity as a lifelong journey and
challenging all students inside and outside of the classroom. These three concepts are very important
to me as I begin my teaching career and are the three highlights in which I took out of EPE 100. It
took me a very poor micro teaching experience to finally understand that physical education is truly
about more than just sports. "You learn more from failure, than you do from success" this is a quote
that I hear very often from various coaches and teachers. I think this perfectly sums up my micro
teaching experience, while it was not a completely failure it served as a very important lesson to me.
It was not until I was placed into a teaching situation that I fully realised not everyone is going to
excell, and that one cannot expect the whole class to be able to pick up a sport in one lesson. Nick

Teaching And Teaching: My Philosophy And Philosophy Of...
Teaching is a noble profession which has been in practice for ages. Everything can be taught – from
a simple way of living to teaching someone to build a house, for instance. When talking about
teaching and learning, we usually tend to think about academic learning where there is a teacher in
front of a class, teaching the students. The process of learning deals with acquiring alterations in the
existing knowledge, abilities, and ways of life or predilections through experience, practice or
exercise. Unfortunately, the teacher is not the only one concerned in the teaching and learning
process; the students are part(s) and parcel of this too. Education, for me, contributes greatly to the
construction of the identity of a person who is also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a teacher, it is my duty to know who my students are, the type of learners they are, together with
their cultures and social backgrounds, the types of knowledge and experiences they bring to the
classroom. A class contains students who differ from one another as they have different interests,
prior knowledge, assimilation level, motivation, physical abilities, beliefs, and self–esteems,
aptitudes, learning styles, cultural values and backgrounds among others and above all, they are
unique in their own ways. It is preposterous to treat them as one size fits all. Thereupon, as a
teacher, I need to identify the strengths and shortcomings of my students and adapt my teaching by
virtue of these differences. Dewey (1897) also embraces this idea of Rousseau's and mine as he said
in his work My Pedagogical Creed that "the only true education comes through the stimulation of
the child's powers by the demands of the social situations in which he finds himself". My belief
about human nature concurs with Dewey which is knowledge is not an inborn quality as human
beings are born with the capacity of growth and development (Dewey,

Teaching And Coaching As A Philosophy
A philosophy can be defined as 'a set of values and behaviours that serve to guide the actions of a
coach' (Wilcox and Trudel, 1998, p.41). By drawing from all facets of a person's life, each is specific
to the learner and distinguishes teachers and coaches from one another. It can be consciously
developed as the professional, teacher/coach and student within education is exposed to a practice as
well as other life experiences. It is believed that 'clearly articulating one's philosophy is a
prerequisite to good practice' (Cassidy et al, 2008, p.55) throughout this essay I hope to reflect on
my increasing knowledge foundation in teaching and coaching and how it has successfully
developed and been applied to my philosophy as a coach.

However, I disagree, as a coach I believe you must have specific sport knowledge to the sport in
context but knowledge from a wider base to fully engage in successful practice of techniques which
accompany a successful end result as well as being able to develop the athlete on a wider basis. This
is supported by 'the fact coaches work with fewer people and at a higher skill level does not negate
the fact that they are engaged in teaching...skills, techniques and strategies'( Drewe, 2000, p.81) this
coupled with the fact coaches tend to spend more time with athletes which means they too, also
develop the fundamental domains of the athlete. For this reason I believe both roles are intertwined
and provide basis for both to thrive from. In order to for me to be an affective coach I must take both
concepts and make sure that I develop the child's ability as well as other factors.
A way I have developed as a coach is by exploring philosophies of coaching and in particular three
core philosophical concepts, values (axiology), morality (ethics), and meaning (ontology). Values
(axiology) can be split into two sources, which include value in both sport and coaching and more
distinctly subjective and objective values. This is determined by whether a person is intrinsically or
extrinsically motivated. Subjective values

Cicero said, "What noble employment is more valuable to the state than that of the man who

When deciding upon a philosophy of education, I was torn between two: Progressivism and

This is so the student who knows the subject material can assist the other student. This idea is based
on two reasons. The first being that the student, who does not quite understand, can have a peer's
assistance. The second is so that the student who already knows the material won't get bored while
the other students catch up. By allowing this type of group learning, I will be encouraging the
students to help each other. They will also learn to work well together (a skill needed in today's
world).
My education time will not be wasted on discipline problems. If I have a student who is being
disruptive, I do not plan on calling attention to their misbehavior. I will simply place their name on
the board. After their name is on the board, if they continue to be disruptive, he or she will be
quietly separated from the other students until they can behave properly. I do not want the children
to form the idea that they can receive more attention by misbehaving. I want them to strive to be
attentive, well–behaved children. This behavior will be encouraged by praising the children when
they are being good, rather than constantly calling attention away from the lesson to instruct a
student to behave.
In conclusion, I would like to summarize the main ideas of my philosophy. The first idea is my
desire to incorporate my two philosophies into one curriculum. The second being the idea of an

Essay on My Philosophy of Teaching
Philosophy of Education
Before a person goes into the education field, most have to do a lot of thinking to make sure that
what they are beginning is something that they will truly enjoy doing. Teachers do not go into their
profession for fame and fortune. They are there to educate children for a lifetime of learning.
Teaching is not something that I have had to think about. Teaching is something I have felt drawn to
ever since I was three or four years old playing school with my cousins. I have known that I wanted
to teach all of my life. Naturally I went through the "I want to be a doctor, a firefighter, an astronaut,
a lawyer" phase, but teaching is the only thing that I have ever really felt like I would enjoy.

Once this is done then the school year can begin. The second role of the teacher comes from the
Behaviorist Philosophy, the controller of behavior. The teacher has to set rules that his/her students
are able to understand. Along with the rules the teacher needs to have consequences that the students
will have to pay if these rules are broken. A teacher must be consistent and treat all of his/her
students the same no matter what he/she know about the student or the student's past tendencies. The
consequences must be fair and suit the misbehavior. Also, like the Existentialists, I feel that the
teacher has to be a mediator. If the teacher notices that nay of his/her students are having problems
with anyone else, the teacher needs to step in and get the students to try to work their problems out
in a reasonable way. Being with the Progressivists, I feel that the teacher should be a guide for
his/her students and a director of learning. The teacher must guide his/her students to realize that
they have to make their own decisions. The children must realize that they do not have to do or say
anything unless they want to. The teacher has to be the one to show this to the students, otherwise
they may never be told this. Finally, as the director of learning the teacher has to encourage his/her
students that learning is fun. If the children do not understand something, the teacher is the one who
has to make the time to explain it better to the students. The

My Original Teaching Philosophy Statement
I honestly would not make any changes to my original teaching philosophy statement because I
believe that after reading through the entire phycology book, the things I read only supported the
things I stated in my philosophy statement. When writing my philosophy statement I had not taken
any previous education classes to aid my original teaching philosophy but I have been working with
kids my entire life and so I have seen first hand what things work with children and what does not.
This does not by any means mean that I know everything and have all the answers to teaching, it
simply means I have had a little bit of a head start with working with kids. You learn my trying
something out, analyzing if it worked, the reflecting on that and changing it. Even before taking this
class and reading that in the text I was already practicing this when I was the Sunday school teacher
for 2–3 year olds at my dads church. Another thing that gave me ideas on my teaching philosophy
statement was by being in a class and have an amazing teacher, or a not so amazing teacher. Even
without the knowledge I acquired in this chorus I was able to see the things my teacher did in a class
and reflect on if, for me as a student, they were helpful. These two reasons are why I believe my
reasoning behind teacher philosophy statement is sound.

The environment the teacher creates is instrumental to encouraging or inhibiting learning. It is my
job to create a dynamic, exciting, and interconnected environment that encourages students to be
part of thought–provoking conversation and potential learning opportunities. Specifically, when

everything students are learning fits together into a complete understanding of the world, from
which they develop their personal global perspective.
Finally, I believe the concept of respect must be present and felt by my students and colleagues. Not
only to respect and be open to the content presented in class, but also to motivate them to respect

Experience is the Key
I consider three overarching goals to each teaching "moment" I am presented with, each of them
embedded in my conception of teaching as a temptation to Experience. First, I ask students to

spaces for students to encounter and discuss–at both a personal and professional level–fundamental
questions of power, justice, identity, equity, and freedom. Asking my students to experience the
course content also means encouraging active and participatory learning.

If a teacher makes the material covered in a course interesting, the students are more likely to learn

One of most challenging task in teaching is the motivation of students. However, students can be

Since Koreans started to learn English, thousands of people have struggled to master the language.
Parents currently invest a lot of money and their children spend enormous amounts of time studying
English as government suggests new language policies. However, proper verification and
investigation of those policies have not been done yet and the outlet is really not promising (Suh,
2007). Most Korean students study English for tests. The purpose of English is so focused on tests
that the situation makes the language classroom very uncomfortable and tense. This situation may

many students lose interest in learning the English language or become stressed out about it. Most of

Teaching Philosophy : The Importance Of Philosophy In...
A friendship with wisdom, philosophy, is something that gets tossed around quite often in the
education department. Myself and aspiring future teachers often are asked a very simple worded
question. What is your teaching philosophy? Now, I've been crafting that philosophy as it matures
from a seed to a blossoming cherry tree, but what really is the importance of philosophy? It must
have great importance if its required for graduation, with education majors receiving an extra dosage
of philosophy in order to complete their education degrees, but why is that? I'll be honest that I've
often scorned at philosophy without having a solid reason, so having a chance to take the class could
change my opinion about the subject. Indeed, my opinion has changed as I look upon defending the
school written law requiring students to take a philosophy class. What better way to start off
defending philosophy then taking a look at Socrates, one of the famous Greek philosophers.
Socrates was quite a brilliant man during his time, even though the Greeks sentenced him to death
with a bit of hemlock, he began the idea of philosophy in the west. Now, Socrates namesake brings
about many theories and idea's, but there is one that I believe stands out among the rest. Socrates
misology speech helps us understand the importance of argumentation. Socrates explains that
humans are both reliable and unreliable in the viewpoint they bring to an argument, which consist of
both truths and falsehoods. (Plato,

My Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy
Teaching Philosophy My philosophy of education is founded on the core principle that all children
should have equal access to a quality education that will prepare them for higher education and to be
contributing members of society. Schools were founded on the primary principle of teaching values
to students as well as educating them academically. While values have been removed from the
curriculum, I still believe much of what we do as teachers is instilling values in our students. As
educators, while there are many elements we do not have control over we can control our
perspective, belief in our students' abilities, rapport with our students, classroom management,
collaboration and our role in the community. Perspective I began to understand the impact of
perspective when reading Linda Dillow's book on contentment. Dillow shared how her experience
as a missionary taught her "our thought life – not our friends, husband, children, job or anything else
– determines our contentment" (Dillow, 1998, p. 32). A person's perspective determines far more
than just how they think about their life. It affects their attitude and the way they share their view of
things with others. In my opinion, perspective is one of the most important areas in a teacher's life
because they share their perspective with their students. As teachers, there are many outside factors
that we have no control over. Many factors have the ability to change throughout a school year, for
example; classroom sizes,

Socratic Method Of Teaching And Study Philosophy

  • 1. Socratic Method Of Teaching And Study Philosophy 1. Explain some of the benefits a student may gain by studying philosophy. Some of the benefits a student gains by studying philosophy is having the ability to gain knowledge and think more clearly. You learn skills, seek wisdom and get an understanding of our world through various branches. Helps us appreciate where the world came from, where we came from. Using our critical thinking we evaluate information and reach a conclusion due to the analyzation. We learn ethics, what is real, how others see things. We gain cognitive, moral and spiritual development by studying philosophy. 2. Explain the Socratic Method of Teaching. Is this a useful way for students to learn? Socratic Method is a way of thinking that involves three steps, first step is you give an initial definition, second step you find exceptions to that definition and you present them in a form of question. Then the third step you give a better definition of the concept. Repeat all these steps until you discover the essence of the concept. Socratic method has its pros and cons not every student learns the same way it might be a good method for one student or might be easier for one but not for the other. Everyone is unique and different. 3. Explain how critical thinking can be used to analyze a philosophical issue. Critical thinking is about making sure that you have good reasons for your beliefs. Critical thinking is used by reasoning and examining the information given to her person to analyze a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Progressivist Teaching Philosophy Progressivist Philosophy of Education As a future educator there are many ideas or philosophies on how teachers should teach students. Students learn best when they are able to relate to the material that is being taught. Cohen (1999) writes, "This educational philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners that arise through experiencing the world" The curriculum is based on the needs, ability, and experiences that the student has. From the curriculum, teachers create lessons that influence their students to actively participate and encourage development. The teacher is merely an organizer who offers encouragement as well as prompting the students to use critical thinking skills by challenging them with questions. Students then use this skill to cooperate in groups as well as discuss view point that they may not agree with. This form of duel communication is a skill that allows the student to become more comfortable with their social skills as well as team working. Role of Teacher and Student As a teacher the main focus is on the students. In the progressivist teaching philosophy, student– centered learning is the focus. The progressivist style of learning not only looks out for the student in their education but also looks out for their well–being. As a progressivist teacher, they allow the student to make his/her own experience. From this experience, teachers use this as a way to get students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy of Teaching By: Tambra Reynolds Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and write, tie their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of last school year, I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she was terminally ill and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her parents were entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what would be her last days. In those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For Avery*, there was no next year; and the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of me. I slowed things down and didn't push quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess, just because the weather was nice and the sky was pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three stories in a row until my voice gave out, because the children were loving the performance. I knew it was my job to be joyful. Children aren't supposed to die. We all know and believe this truism. But the reality is, sometimes children do die. Avery's* passing profoundly impacted not only my entire class, but me as an educator. Her passing taught me that every moment matters. Whether a child has one year left in life, or many, the memories they make now will impact their future. This year, when I walked into my classroom on the first day of school, I could see her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Philosophy Of Teaching And Teaching Teaching is among the most intricate, eternal and beautiful professions and as a visionary and cultural leader I know that education transcends time and place, deriving much from both social, cultural context and individual style. I am committed to continuously improve my practices with the desire that my leading example instills in my students and colleagues the passion and enthusiasm for learning and teaching. I am a dedicated, resourceful educational professional who consistently take part in training opportunities designed to strength and improve educator's pedagogical skills, monitor policies and practices that promote a safe learning environment. As a managerial leader, collaboration and good communication in the school setting is very important to me because "Effective principals are effective managers. They must communicate, develop relationships, and coordinate efforts of teachers, assistant principals, custodians, secretaries, counselors, librarians" (Alby & Robbins, 1998, P. 16). In my district I lead for two years the Language Acquisition PLC for middle schools and became an active member of the Building Leadership Team, Standards Reference Grading Building Implementation Team, Educational Equity Committee. State wide, I am a member of the Collaboration for Kids Oversight Team, World Languages & Culture Team, Iowa State University STEM Equity Team and Outstanding Educators of Iowa Committee. • 9. The Four Elements Of My Teaching Philosophy And Philosophy... I believe that ``A tax on gained knowledge is to disseminate it by teaching," which leads to the unlimited expansion of knowledge. My principle philosophy about teaching is that it is a holy message to deliver knowledge to anyone who seeks it, and this concept should make learning an enjoyable experience. My practical teaching philosophy mainly depends on four elements: {bf knowledge}, {bf encouragement}, {bf contemplation}, and {bf excellence}. The acquisition and ongoing quest for and to share {bf knowledge} is key for any successful teacher. The {bf encouragement} of student interaction is necessary for success in learning, especially the encouragement of a student's {bf contemplation} on how to expand their knowledge based on the material and always be thinking about new ways to solve problems. This process and involvement can only lead to academic {bf excellence}. I can contribute to the success and happiness of students through the practical implication of the four elements of my teaching philosophy. My ongoing quest for knowledge will allow me to deeply interact with the class materials and student, and communicate with them on their level of understanding. This balance between the knowledge of the instructor and knowing the students' needs will allow for the appropriate level of challenge to maintain interest in the class. When first approaching a topic to teach, I keep the students aware of the big picture or overall purpose of what they will be studying. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Learning Philosophy And Teaching Philosophy Creating a multitude of experiences for students and focusing instruction around the vocabulary that stems from those experiences is the foundation of my teaching philosophy. From daily exposure and continuous personal research I know that poverty means more than a lack of money; it means a lack of resources–financial, relational, neurological, social–emotional, experiential, and linguistic. It was from this list of necessary resources that I developed my teaching philosophy and the strategies to reinforce it. Currently, I collaboratively teach Pre–K with another teacher, two teacher assistants and 40 children. About 60% of my students are English language learners. I teach all subjects: reading, writing, math, science, and art. Inclusive in the content are the social–emotional skills: patience, sharing, focus, emotional vocabulary, standing up for others, using words instead of violence, exploration, and the value of creativity. Collaborative teaching is a critical tool for balancing efficacious direct instruction and observation/assessment. By choosing to team teach I have provided myself with supports that make time for meaningful student–teacher interactions and encourage daily reflection of student growth. Effectively, my students are impoverished of experience: background knowledge. This lack of experience means they also lack exposure to a rich vocabulary, to those one million words that middle class children come to school having heard and often use. ... • 13. The Statement Of Teaching Philosophy My Philosophy Introduction "The statement of teaching philosophy (also called the teaching statement or teaching philosophy statement) promotes reflective practice by encouraging instructors to describe their teaching methods, to justify why they use those methods, to analyze the effectiveness of those methods, and to consider how they might appropriately modify those methods in future courses." (Schönwetter et al., 2002) Stake holder motivation, engagement, cognitive associations, and personal values are the principal elements of education. The attainment of knowledge, standards mastery, and the ability to reason come second to a student 's overall well–being. Elements of behaviorism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism and ... (Kearns & Sullivan, 2011) Teachers are encouraged to systematically change declarative statements about their passion for teaching moments in the classroom that speak of learning goals and personal qualities. It is through reflection of experiences that teachers can build personal expectations of themselves. Review of the Literature Within a framework of teaching, educators focus on the nature of knowledge and how students gain that knowledge. There are five established, major educational philosophies. They are behaviorism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism and perennialism. These philosophies greatly focus on what should be taught. Behavioral learning theories are simply explained as reinforcing behaviors one would like to see repeated. Slavin states, "Reinforcement will increase the frequency of a behavior with positive or negative consequences." (2012, p. 120) The student environment impacts student decisions and learning. Positive reinforcement is the application of a stimulus. Negative reinforcement is the application of a punishment. The role of teachers in behavioral learning theories is to provide immediate and concise feedback of behaviors. Teachers should provide tasks with small, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Teaching Philosophy Statement After completing this teacher interview activity, I am beyond excited to become a teacher. I feel this way not only because Heather strongly agrees that teaching is an optimal choice of a young person today but due to the passion she possesses for her job. As Heather described her classroom and what it is like to spend all day with children, I just cannot wait until I am teaching. Children have this undeniable excitement about them; everyday is a good day, as they do not have a care in the world. I hope this positive outlook on life with fill my body everyday just as it has there's. Ultimately, what I am most excited to do is make an impact on a child's life. There is no greater feel in the world that knowing that that you have helped someone. I hope that I will make an impact on every student I have so that they can think back and say, that teacher changed my life. I know that this profession is not going to be all fun and games or that everyday will be a good day but I am up for the challenge. Impacting the lives of our nations youth is completely and totally worth it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is also one of those teachers that would do anything for her students. Heather knew even early on that teaching is what she aspired to do; she loves working with kids. She agrees that if she could do it over again, she would still become a teacher and it shows in her words and actions on the kind of teacher she is. I envy people who find a career that incorporates what they love in life. The quote, "if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life" is a quote I desire to fulfill in my life. • 17. Philosophy, Interdisciplinary Teaching and Student... Philosophy, Interdisciplinary Teaching and Student Experience ABSTRACT: This paper focuses on novel approaches open to teachers of philosophy in particular, but more generally also to other university teachers, in the face of what Allan Bloom saw as the waning of a literary culture. It is argued that, although some of Bloom's suggestions regarding the successful engagement of students' interest–against overwhelming odds–are didactically valuable, he neglects precisely those avenues from which students could benefit most on the basis of their own experience in a world largely devoid of literary attachments but saturated with audiovisual ones. These options are explored in some detail from various perspectives, including the difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason behind this assumption is my belief that, even if Rorty were right that philosophy is just one voice in the conversation of humankind – or one language game among others – and even if it does not occupy a hierarchically superior position in relation to other conversation partners, it is not one that we could blithely give up whenever we felt like it, as his own continued practice of it demonstrates. To give up philosophizing would require that we first cease to be self–conscious beings – not just conscious beings, but beings conscious of being conscious, or reflective beings, homo sapiens sapiens. And the day we are no longer such beings, we would no longer be human, and I could well imagine that philosophy would have no place in a world populated by such unreflective creatures. Jean–Francois Lyotard (1991) has hinted – and I agree with him – that our humanity is at present being threatened by an inhuman system of global development, but also that the resources exist within us to resist the dehumanizing effects of such a system, even if, in the process, we have to draw on something within us which is 'inhuman' in a different sense: the sense of that which will always escape the various processes of rationalization (or 'normalization', Foucault would say) typical of an ... • 23. My Philosophy Of Teaching Language My philosophy of teaching language is that in order for a child to achieve language they have to have the desire to learn it. In my short time, I have overseen teachers implement a student–centered learning environment. Learning in my future classroom will always occur within cooperative and collaborative group work. Having observed this strategy, this strategy is completely effective and positive to reaffirm and develop strong student–to–student and instructor–to–students relationships. This only reassures and establishes an honest and sincere communication in classrooms. I would also do my best to create a positive and enjoyable environment for my future students, which motivates them to participate actively in the activities. In today's classrooms, I find, they are becoming extremely diverse in socioeconomic, academic, disability and ethnic backgrounds. To be able to provide a connection and identity with the English language only becomes a more challenging task to achieve due to the diversity of the group of students. "Apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to make effective choices for meaning or style, and to comprehend more fully when reading or listening" (Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards). Teaching Philosophy : My Philosophy Teaching Philosophy: Lauren Gross EDUC 120 Learn to Teach, Learn to Learn. / Use the past to teach the future ( That is my philosophy) Theory helps teachers think about what we experience and furthermore to teach and learn about how we, as educators, learn. Teachers should be supportive and cooperative, teachers should play the role of a friend, but also stealthily act in the role of advisor or guide for students. Teachers should live by existing educational theories, but also be able to create theories of their own. As captains of the classroom, teachers truly have an ability to see a student in all of his or hers walks of life. A teacher can see what a student is capable of by way of independent or group work and the progression students make over a certain period of time. Teachers and theories stand as tools for understanding, and can serve as a lens for viewing the world and making sense of it. Theories of children's play provide diverse lenses shaped by the many disciplines that have contributed to our knowledge of play (Sutton–Smith, 1997, 1999/ Frost). Many theories about children's play can be described in terms of rhetoric of progress, How a student is perceived is often wrongly based on a teacher's bias or a small lens or section within that students total educational experience. I have planned a teaching style to teach students in both practice and theory. Health care depends on the clinical practice and if you do not have this knowledge, you cannot work in the hospital and clinics. However, some students do not choose to work in the hospital and wish to focus on the theory and education. When I graduated from college, I never planned to study at the master's level. However, after working four years in the hospital setting, I decided to apply for a master's degree so that I could become a professor. • 37. Plato 's Teachings Of Philosophy Plato was a well known philosopher who lived during the time of the distinguished Greek philosophers. He was born into a wealthy and very noble family in the Athens. In the midst of preparation for his life long career as a politician, the young Plato witnessed the trial and eventual execution of Socrates. Little did he or anyone know this would ultimately lead him to completely abandon his political career and become one of the world's most distinguished philosophers. Although Plato's teachings are not universally agreed upon, virtually anyone can agree that that he was a brilliant thinker and spurred many thoughts and beliefs that are carried into today's teachings of philosophy. While the precise relationship of Plato and Socrates remains a heated disagreement among scholars, Plato states that he was, in fact, a devoted follower of Socrates. Plato was highly influenced by Socrates' teachings and highly disturbed by his execution, eventually leading him to establish an extremely powerful body of intellectual work. Plato is known to be a great writer as well as teacher. Some of Plato's most famous teachings and writings had to do with his powerful argument that was in favor of the objectivity of values. He taught that objective values are those that exist outside the individual and are otherwise dependent upon their individual perception or personal belief. Even though student engagement is easier to accomplish in smaller classrooms, it is even more important in larger classrooms where students' voices drown in the hollow of the lecture hall. Ensuring that at least a portion of the students is engaged will encourage certain students to ask questions which are likely to be on the mind of other, more reserved, students. These three concepts are very important to me as I begin my teaching career and are the three highlights in which I took out of EPE 100. It can be consciously developed as the professional, teacher/coach and student within education is exposed to a practice as well as other life experiences. It is believed that 'clearly articulating one's philosophy is a prerequisite to good practice' (Cassidy et al, 2008, p.55) throughout this essay I hope to reflect on my increasing knowledge foundation in teaching and coaching and how it has successfully developed and been applied to my philosophy as a coach. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I disagree, as a coach I believe you must have specific sport knowledge to the sport in context but knowledge from a wider base to fully engage in successful practice of techniques which accompany a successful end result as well as being able to develop the athlete on a wider basis. This is supported by 'the fact coaches work with fewer people and at a higher skill level does not negate the fact that they are engaged in teaching...skills, techniques and strategies'( Drewe, 2000, p.81) this coupled with the fact coaches tend to spend more time with athletes which means they too, also develop the fundamental domains of the athlete. For this reason I believe both roles are intertwined and provide basis for both to thrive from. In order to for me to be an affective coach I must take both concepts and make sure that I develop the child's ability as well as other factors. A way I have developed as a coach is by exploring philosophies of coaching and in particular three core philosophical concepts, values (axiology), morality (ethics), and meaning (ontology). Values (axiology) can be split into two sources, which include value in both sport and coaching and more distinctly subjective and objective values. This is determined by whether a person is intrinsically or extrinsically motivated. Subjective values ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Teaching Philosophy Teaching Philosophy Cicero said, "What noble employment is more valuable to the state than that of the man who instructs the rising generation?" He was correct in saying this because the young people of today will become the world leaders of tomorrow. The educators that instruct these children are important to this society because they will help shape the lives of these young people. When deciding upon a philosophy of education, I was torn between two: Progressivism and Essentialism. The idea of educating students with real–world experiences is one reason I can identify with Progressivism. On the other hand, the "back–to–basics" approach to teaching is a reason I believe in Essentialism. It is my belief that combining the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is so the student who knows the subject material can assist the other student. This idea is based on two reasons. The first being that the student, who does not quite understand, can have a peer's assistance. The second is so that the student who already knows the material won't get bored while the other students catch up. By allowing this type of group learning, I will be encouraging the students to help each other. They will also learn to work well together (a skill needed in today's world). My education time will not be wasted on discipline problems. If I have a student who is being disruptive, I do not plan on calling attention to their misbehavior. I will simply place their name on the board. After their name is on the board, if they continue to be disruptive, he or she will be quietly separated from the other students until they can behave properly. I do not want the children to form the idea that they can receive more attention by misbehaving. I want them to strive to be attentive, well–behaved children. This behavior will be encouraged by praising the children when they are being good, rather than constantly calling attention away from the lesson to instruct a student to behave. In conclusion, I would like to summarize the main ideas of my philosophy. The first idea is my desire to incorporate my two philosophies into one curriculum. The second being the idea of an environment where children will learn, and be able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Teaching Philosophy Statement Essay Teaching Philosophy Statement In the movie The Matrix, Morphis says to Neo "I can only show you the door, I can't open it for you." The door that Morphis is talking about is this incredible vast knowledge that is unknown to Neo. What better person to show, to teach, to inform Neo than his teacher, Morphis. You see, I see myself as Morphis, the teacher, whenever I step into a classroom. As I look across the room, there isn't just one "Neo", but there are thirty or forty Neos. This is an extreme job for someone that understands how hard it is to open that door. I have always heard throughout my life that the key to life is knowledge; the key to success is knowledge. These are two different subjects that can be touched upon. Knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although English didn't inspire me, Science was what inspired me to be a teacher. As a junior in high school, I was taking what my science teacher said and teaching and helping my classmates. Most of those classmates were the students that had a higher GPA then myself. It proved to be worthwhile, because that was my first teaching experience. Somebody may have said that isn't anything, that can't be the only thing that inspired you to teach. It isn't, I had my life figured out. I loved the ocean, I loved the creatures of the ocean, I loved the sound of the waves as they lapped against the shore, I wanted to become a marine biologist. That was my goal. That is what I wanted to do with my life. Then it hit me, I'm being selfish. I have a talent that not everybody on this earth has. This talent wasn't teaching, but this talent was the ability to talk to anybody and everybody, at any time of the day about anything that popped into out heads. It took me awhile to think about what I wanted to do with my life after I realized what I had inside of me. At first I wanted to be a psychologist. I was thinking, if I wanted to use what I had, why not get paid an extreme amount of money for it. Then it hit me again. That is being selfish. There was something else that was wrong with being a psychologist that just didn't set with me correctly. The thing is, whenever I met somebody and get to know him or her, they become a part of me. • 63. The Teaching Philosophy Of Matthys The Teaching Philosophy of Matthys J. Uys: A Brief Revision. Every teacher, since the beginning of time, is unique in his or her own way, and has thus their own teaching philosophy based upon an ultimate goal of education, teaching approaches, views concerning learners, and teaching values, in order to certify that learners learn the necessary knowledge, skills and values as required by the South African Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement. In the following essay my teaching philosophy will be discussed. Firstly, my ultimate goal for education will be mentioned. Secondly, my teaching approaches will be elaborated upon. Thirdly, my teaching values will be stated. In conclusion, the two questions, "What kind of teacher am I?" and "What kind of teacher do I want to be, given who I am and what I stand for?", will be answered. ... • 65. Essay on My Philosophy of Teaching Philosophy of Education Before a person goes into the education field, most have to do a lot of thinking to make sure that what they are beginning is something that they will truly enjoy doing. Teachers do not go into their profession for fame and fortune. They are there to educate children for a lifetime of learning. Teaching is not something that I have had to think about. Teaching is something I have felt drawn to ever since I was three or four years old playing school with my cousins. I have known that I wanted to teach all of my life. Naturally I went through the "I want to be a doctor, a firefighter, an astronaut, a lawyer" phase, but teaching is the only thing that I have ever really felt like I would enjoy. Spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once this is done then the school year can begin. The second role of the teacher comes from the Behaviorist Philosophy, the controller of behavior. The teacher has to set rules that his/her students are able to understand. Along with the rules the teacher needs to have consequences that the students will have to pay if these rules are broken. A teacher must be consistent and treat all of his/her students the same no matter what he/she know about the student or the student's past tendencies. The consequences must be fair and suit the misbehavior. Also, like the Existentialists, I feel that the teacher has to be a mediator. If the teacher notices that nay of his/her students are having problems with anyone else, the teacher needs to step in and get the students to try to work their problems out in a reasonable way. Being with the Progressivists, I feel that the teacher should be a guide for his/her students and a director of learning. The teacher must guide his/her students to realize that they have to make their own decisions. The children must realize that they do not have to do or say anything unless they want to. The teacher has to be the one to show this to the students, otherwise they may never be told this. Finally, as the director of learning the teacher has to encourage his/her students that learning is fun. If the children do not understand something, the teacher is the one who has to make the time to explain it better to the students. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. My Original Teaching Philosophy Statement I honestly would not make any changes to my original teaching philosophy statement because I believe that after reading through the entire phycology book, the things I read only supported the things I stated in my philosophy statement. When writing my philosophy statement I had not taken any previous education classes to aid my original teaching philosophy but I have been working with kids my entire life and so I have seen first hand what things work with children and what does not. This does not by any means mean that I know everything and have all the answers to teaching, it simply means I have had a little bit of a head start with working with kids. You learn my trying something out, analyzing if it worked, the reflecting on that and changing it. Even before taking this class and reading that in the text I was already practicing this when I was the Sunday school teacher for 2–3 year olds at my dads church. Another thing that gave me ideas on my teaching philosophy statement was by being in a class and have an amazing teacher, or a not so amazing teacher. Even without the knowledge I acquired in this chorus I was able to see the things my teacher did in a class and reflect on if, for me as a student, they were helpful. These two reasons are why I believe my reasoning behind teacher philosophy statement is sound. An example of something that I wrote in my original statement that was later backed up by the book was when I stated that every child is unique and therefore each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The environment the teacher creates is instrumental to encouraging or inhibiting learning. It is my job to create a dynamic, exciting, and interconnected environment that encourages students to be part of thought–provoking conversation and potential learning opportunities. Specifically, when teaching social studies, it is crucial I treat subject matter as interconnected, emphasizing that everything students are learning fits together into a complete understanding of the world, from which they develop their personal global perspective. Finally, I believe the concept of respect must be present and felt by my students and colleagues. Not only to respect and be open to the content presented in class, but also to motivate them to respect themselves, each other and members of our global community. Experience is the Key I consider three overarching goals to each teaching "moment" I am presented with, each of them embedded in my conception of teaching as a temptation to Experience. First, I ask students to experience the specific course content. As a teacher of social studies, I see my task as creating spaces for students to encounter and discuss–at both a personal and professional level–fundamental questions of power, justice, identity, equity, and freedom. Asking my students to experience the course content also means encouraging active and participatory learning. Second, I ask students to experience "moments" with me and with each other. Rabindranath Tagore (Nobel prize in literature in 1913) This is my favorite quotation because it express what, I think, is the essence of teaching and learning. If a teacher makes the material covered in a course interesting, the students are more likely to learn and keep the information presented. Besides helping students learn course content, I think its teachers' role to help students develop broader skills that are important in all field and future careers. These skills include verbal and written communication, critical thinking, and consideration of issues from multiple viewpoints. As an assistant professor, I would use several methods to convey clearly principles relevant to the chemistry class I would teach: Demonstration –supplemented lectures. In–class participation Development of Internet Resources Research papers. Motivation One of most challenging task in teaching is the motivation of students. However, students can be motivated to work hard if they see that professor cares about their success and if they see that he/she sets high standards for him/herself as well as for the students. Poor lecturing, unavailability during office hours, unfulfilled promises of checking the answer to a question, and general sloppiness set the students wondering, not in a good way. Furthermore, motivation is one key factor which brings students in the classroom. This can also be achieved logically by letting them to know the significance of science, how it changes world, how can we have a better future, how can we control fuel crisis, how can we reduce global ... • 73. My Philosophy : My Teaching Philosophy My Teaching Philosophy Since Koreans started to learn English, thousands of people have struggled to master the language. Parents currently invest a lot of money and their children spend enormous amounts of time studying English as government suggests new language policies. However, proper verification and investigation of those policies have not been done yet and the outlet is really not promising (Suh, 2007). Most Korean students study English for tests. The purpose of English is so focused on tests that the situation makes the language classroom very uncomfortable and tense. This situation may also be caused by public schools? preferred method of teaching the grammar–translation method (GTM). Students are given lists of vocabulary terns and are also encouraged to learn grammatical rules, as teachers provide translation activities for their classes instead of practical oral proficiency practice (Richards and Rodgers, 2001). With the pressure of tests and teacher–centered lectures, many students lose interest in learning the English language or become stressed out about it. Most of all, some teachers and educators forgot to figure out why students learn the language. I want to use a more inspirational approach to teaching because motivations will affect such things as anxiety, or attitude or willingness to try new learning strategies (Hedge, 2000). Being a professional teacher includes providing good direction and advice to students on how to learn a language. Good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Teaching Philosophy : The Importance Of Philosophy In... A friendship with wisdom, philosophy, is something that gets tossed around quite often in the education department. Myself and aspiring future teachers often are asked a very simple worded question. What is your teaching philosophy? Now, I've been crafting that philosophy as it matures from a seed to a blossoming cherry tree, but what really is the importance of philosophy? It must have great importance if its required for graduation, with education majors receiving an extra dosage of philosophy in order to complete their education degrees, but why is that? I'll be honest that I've often scorned at philosophy without having a solid reason, so having a chance to take the class could change my opinion about the subject. Indeed, my opinion has changed as I look upon defending the school written law requiring students to take a philosophy class. What better way to start off defending philosophy then taking a look at Socrates, one of the famous Greek philosophers. Socrates was quite a brilliant man during his time, even though the Greeks sentenced him to death with a bit of hemlock, he began the idea of philosophy in the west. Now, Socrates namesake brings about many theories and idea's, but there is one that I believe stands out among the rest. Socrates misology speech helps us understand the importance of argumentation. Socrates explains that humans are both reliable and unreliable in the viewpoint they bring to an argument, which consist of both truths and falsehoods. (Plato, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. My Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy Teaching Philosophy My philosophy of education is founded on the core principle that all children should have equal access to a quality education that will prepare them for higher education and to be contributing members of society. Schools were founded on the primary principle of teaching values to students as well as educating them academically. While values have been removed from the curriculum, I still believe much of what we do as teachers is instilling values in our students. As educators, while there are many elements we do not have control over we can control our perspective, belief in our students' abilities, rapport with our students, classroom management, collaboration and our role in the community. Perspective I began to understand the impact of perspective when reading Linda Dillow's book on contentment. Dillow shared how her experience as a missionary taught her "our thought life – not our friends, husband, children, job or anything else – determines our contentment" (Dillow, 1998, p. 32). A person's perspective determines far more than just how they think about their life. It affects their attitude and the way they share their view of things with others. In my opinion, perspective is one of the most important areas in a teacher's life because they share their perspective with their students. As teachers, there are many outside factors that we have no control over. Many factors have the ability to change throughout a school year, for example; classroom sizes, ...
