Task Seven
ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
The introduction of impurities into water which adversely affects humans, animals
and aquatic lives is referred to as water pollution.
Itis caused mainly by the following:
 IndustrialWaste
 Domestic influent
 Sewage
 Fertilizer and Pesticides
 Oil spills
One consequenceof water pollution is solid waste accumulating in canals and
drains contributing to flooding.
In the analysis it was seen that the main factor responsiblefor contributing to
water pollution is the unsanitary residents which was 50%. However, with the
residents being unsanitary this may lead to the circulation of all kind of diseases
with the area.
The analysis shows that56% of garbagewas not collected according to a proper
schedule. In most cases weather the garbageis placed into plastic bags or garbage
cans or other containers are left for long period outsidethese residence, this
allows for the scattering of the garbageby dogs and cats searching for food.
In the analysis 68% of the residenceis affected by water pollution monthly from
time to time. This is a major issuewhich needs to be attended by residents and
the authorities.
15
Task Eight
STATEMENT OF FINDINGS
The survey has revealed a number of deficiencies which leads to the causeof
water pollution in the La-Penitence drainage canal.
 12% said garbageis dumped weekly, while 88% said garbage is
dumped daily. According to the survey the garbageis dumped into
the drainagecanal because it is not collected at all.
 Cases of dead animals are not collected by the garbagecollector
therefore they are thrown into the canal.
 In mostcases the garbagecollectors do not pick up scattered
garbage, so it find its way into the drainage canal.
16
Task Nine

environmentin the La-Penitence village, each resident, the garbagecollectors and
the governmentmustplay their role to alleviate many of the problems caused by
water pollution.
 In the efforts sign should be placed where garbagedisposalshould not take

 The local governmentauthorities should set up programs to educate the
residents about proper garbagedisposalthis should happen by organizing a
community meetings and by doing this residencewill be educated on water
pollution and the consequences. Henceresidence and authorities will both
work together to deal with this problem.
IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY
In order to solve the problem the researcher could:
 Help to build signs showing the consequences of water pollution and it will
also indicate to them that it is illegal to dump garbageinto the canal.
 Also print flyers to distribute to the residence, helping to educate them
about proper garbagedisposal.
