2. My Cultural Experience At Temple Beth El Of Fort Myers
I chose to do my cultural experience at Temple Beth El of Fort Myers. There I
attended there Friday night Shabbat Service where they worship though song. I
chose to bring a long a friend of mine who has a Jewish family members hoping for
a little insight in order to understand what has happening during the service. She
has been to a few services and was able to explain all the things in the church and
the parts of the ceremony I would not have understood if I was alone. She gave me a
lot of insight about the things they wear and informed me a lot of their custom. I had
heard previously that the Shabbatservice is mainly in Hebrew, therefore I wanted to

As we walked in there were a lot of differences I noticed immediately. One of the
architectural features I notices was this wooden structure on the wall filled with
plaques. These represented members of their community who have died in years
past, it was called the Yahrtzit. The sanctuary had pews to sit on which looked like
curved wooden benches. There was also the stand of podium which in Jewish culture
is known as the Bimah. At the head of the church was an arc known as Aron Kodesh.
Which is where the Torahis. What is interesting is right above it there is a little
light called the Ner Tamid, which means eternal light and it always stays on. As
you sit in the pews there are prayer books behind each seat so you can fallow along
with the readings. The book we used to fallow along was called the Siddur. What
was nice was the prayers were in Hebrew with an English translation so I could
fallow along. The rabbi would yell out the page number that we are on during
prayer but if you were to miss it, I had the guide that I got when I entered the lobby
so that was extremely helpful. In the middle of the service we jump to a Torah reading
, so we had to put away the first book and then open what s called a Chumash. Each
week they read a different part of the Torah that way each year they read through the
entire cycle.
Throughout the service they stand and sit depending on the prayer they are saying.
When the arc opens is when everyone stands, and this is for a sign of
3. How Did Spain Purchase Louisiana Colonies
At the conclusion of the French and Indian War, Spain formally takes possession
of the Louisiana Colony as stipulated in the Treaty of Paris in 1763. France had
secretly transferred Louisiana to Spain in 1762 with the Treaty of Fountaineblue. By
the end of the French period of Louisiana, New Orleans was a commercially
prosperous, self sustaining city, trading all across the French commercial system
(Wall, p. 65). It had become a major port city for importing and exporting products.
With the transfer of rule from France to Spain, the Louisianacolony would
experience some social, political, cultural and economic consequences. The
provisions of the Treaty of Paris of 1763 surprised the colonists of Louisiana. New
Orleans residents were apprehensive and in some cases hostile. Few residents want
to be subject to Spanish rule. So much so that a group of wealthy merchants travel to
Paris to convince Sieur de Bienville to secure a meeting with King Louis XV. But the
King is committed to the transfer and will not meet with them. Louisiana s fate is
sealed. While being subject to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

His new rules limit legal trade for Louisiana to a list of designated Spanish ships

residents are not pleased with Governor Ulloa s policies and believe his rules ruin the

trading with French ports in the Caribbean and illegally with nearby British colonies.
Louisiana has created a lucrative commercial community and is unhappy with the
new economic policies of Spain. In spite of the discontent, Ulloa seeks to improve

7. Jeffrey Salamand Research Paper
Wigand: A Whistle Blower with a Strong Moral Compass Dr. Jeffrey Wigand, born
in New York to strict parents, grew up in a Catholic household where he always had
a passion for science. After graduating high school, Wigand attended community
college before eventually joining the Air Force. After getting out of the service, he
returned to college where he went on to earn his doctorate in biochemistry. Wigand
worked in healthcare for companies such as Pfizer, Union Carbide, and Ortho
Diagnostic System until he eventually landed a lucrative position with Brown
Williamson(B W) in Louisville. He started out at the bottom, making a small salary
until he accepted an attractive offer to become the research chief, head of research

Wigand was a tobacco researcher who exposed industry deceptions and secrets to
hook people (Higgs) on the habit forming drug, nicotine. He morally struggled with
the information that he learned while employed at B W. If he took the high salary
and kept his mouth shut, how many deaths from tobacco would have resulted? He
devoted the rest of his life to battling the tobacco industry and educating the world on
the dangers. While he went through a personal hell, he made a significant impact
to the field of corporate ethics. At that time, he was the highest paid executive to
blow the whistle on unethical practices. This is a relatively new practice in
business, and Wigand paved the way for other executives to blow the whistle on
unethical behavior when it causes significant harm or death because of a company
s irresponsible action. Perhaps the famous whistle blowers from the early 2000s
may not have reported their findings if Dr. Wigand did not pave the way in the mid
1990s. It also shows companies what can and should be done if they wish to be
both moral and successful (DeGeorge 317). Most importantly, he opened the eyes of
the public to more than just the dangers of tobacco. He taught the world that you
need to use your own moral compass, and it is a personal choice on whether you
decide to blow the whistle or remain

Julie, as you indicated, segmentation allowed CHS to provide services specifically

these data points helped them to get a comprehensive look at their patient population

outcomes by targeting specific risk factors in a given population, as well as estimate
the cost of providing care, which helped them with payer contract negotiations

provide care to specific patient populations. However, segmentation will often look at
clinical and financial data to identify patients with chronic conditions,
9. Nixon s Involvement In The Watergate Scandal
The accomplice to the crime of corruption is frequently our own indifference. This
quote by Bess Myerson seems innocent on the surface, but actually conveys an
interesting idea. In saying this, she implied that if not for the lack of involvement by
voters in the United States, the government would have less corruption and less
secretive organizations. However, one situation comes to mind that expresses the
opposite point of what Myerson indicates. As Nixon ran for office his second time,
he had not yet performed any action that would lead to distrust from the American
people. In fact, after winning reelection and beginning his second term, Nixon held
an approval rating of sixty eight percent (Kohut 1). His good favor, however, began

New PACs formed with each election year and they had the ability to fund a

standard TPB model has only a minor chance, between 13.8 and 15.3 percent, of

researches have encouraged the inclusion of additional variables to the TPB
framework that may help to increase predictability (Conner Armitage, 1998). In
research undertaken by Turchik Gidych, six variables were added to extend the
model, the first three; past behaviour, anticipated affect and moral norms, have
consistently shown to increase predictability when using the TPB, furthermore
researchers have argued for their permanent inclusion in the model (Turchik Gidycz,

11. The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison Essay
The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison makes a good point when, in her acceptance speech upon receiving
the Nobel Prize in Literature, she says, Narrative . . . is . . . one of the principal
ways in which we absorb knowledge (7). The words we use and the way in which
we use them is how we, as humans, communicate to each other our thoughts,
feelings, and actions and therefore our knowledge of the world and its peoples.
Knowledge is power. In this way, our language, too, is powerful.
In her acceptance speech, Morrison tries to communicate the idea that we must be
careful with how we use our words. She analogizes the use of language to the life of a
metaphoric bird in a tale of a wise, old, blind ... Show more content on

Throughout her speech, Toni Morrison works towards defining and supporting this
thesis of responsibility. It is our responsibility, as users of words, to make language
thrive. Elizabeth Fox Genovese has a similar goal, but takes a different approach in
her essay The Claims of a Common Culture: Gender, Race, Class and the Canon. She
speaks on the use and composition of the canon taught in humanities classes. Her
idea is that the canon of today is much too one sided and does not include the
influence of the several different cultures, peoples, and ideas that make up our
society. She says that with respect to representativeness, the canon fails woefully. It
represent[s] a small, sometimes minute, portion of the elite, which itself constitute[s]
a statistical minority of the population (Fox Genovese 19). In this abstract way, Fox
Genovese is reiterating Morrison s words that what we say, and how we say it (or
teach it), or what we fail to say (as in the canon taught today) is monumentally
influencing and impactful upon others.
If we are not aware of the words that come out of our mouths due to lack of thought
or attention, we all suffer and we are all at fault: When language dies, out of
carelessness, disuse, indifference, and absence of esteem, or killed by fiat, . . . all
users and makers are accountable for its demise (Morrison 14 15). The standards of
society are changing and with them the
12. Fructokicose And Glucose Research Paper
2a) Blood glucose levels are controlled by the liver where glucose is produced and
sent out through the body via blood. This glucose is used to produce energy in the
form of ATP. When blood glucose levels are low, there is an insufficient amount of
glucose available than what the body needs, so glucagon is released. This promotes
the production of glucosethrough amino acids into Acetyl CoA and then glucose. It is
released into the bloodstream and blood glucose levels return back to normal. When
blood glucose levels are high, insulin levels in the bloodstream also rise and this
causes the synthesis of fructose 2 6 biphosphate. This molecule activates
phosphofructokinase and inhibits fructose biphosphatase. Phosphofructokinase is
responsible for catalyzing the breakdown of glucose to pyruvate while fructose
biphosphatase is responsible for stopping the production of glucose.... Show more

This is done by the enzymes glycogen synthase and glycogen phosphorylase. These
catalyze opposite reactions in the sense that one catalyzes the breakdown of
glycogen while the other catalyzes the synthesis of glycogen. When blood glucose
levels are high, glycogen phosphorylase is activated and glucose is broken down
via the addition of an inorganic phosphate. If blood glucose levels are low, glycogen
synthase couples the reaction to UTP and glucose is formed.
13. Comparing Poems Ghazal And To His Coy Mistress
Both Ghazal and To his coy mistress explore intense feelings and attitudes towards
love. In Ghazal , the narrator uses the word if multiple times, as if they are thinking
of different scenarios in their head about their lover. This suggests that the narrator
feels as if they have endless time to spend with their partner; they think that love is
timeless, and they have plenty of time to try out new ideas and scenarios with their
love. The anaphora of the word if suggests that their partner is constantly on their
mind, and that they continuously think about them, showing that the narrator s love
is passionate and consuming. The idea of timeless love is also reinforced through the

it may devour their lover before they can fully express their love to each other. The
first stanza in his coy mistress is written in tetrameter, suggesting that the narrator is

Interventional Radiology was running slow today during clinical. It first started off

nurse was more willing to explain as she did the procedure. However she did have
a harder time doing the I.V. because she was not having blood return. Another nurse
helped her but she also had trouble getting the I.V. placed. Later after that patient,
another patient was in, but he was going to be taken to catheterization lab. I did not

All of this talk of bloodsucking and animals gives me the chills. It reminds me of
that time when...well, that s another story that is totally irrelevant to the here and
now. Thank you, Professor Anne, for that introduction. I won t take time repeating
what she said, so let s just dive right in. All of this talk of Chupacabra and its
bloodsucking nature reminds me of one particular creature that many of you may be
familiar with. If not, you will learn about in Year 3 DADA. Yes, I am talking about
the Vampire.
Now these creatures are naturally Dark, though many of them choose not to be
malicious. Some choose simply to go into isolation and live their lives away from
society. However, one thing that is certain about the Vampire is their need for blood.
A vampire cannot survive without blood. Most often, lore says that vampires get
their blood by drinking it from humans. They simply come up, give the victim a nice,
solid bite on the neck, and drain the blood from their system. This, in turn, would also
turn the victim into a vampire.
However, this is not the full story. This is just what has become popular. Due to the
exciting nature of the story, many people prefer talking about the malicious vampires
who choose to feast on humans. There is an entirely separate group of vampires who

Russia had been an autocratic government for 300 years under the Romanov
Dynasty before the revolution of 1917. When problems started in the early 1900 s
most people were serfs that had been freed about 20 years before. In 1914 during
World War One, Czar Nicholas II decided to stay in war with Germany despite what
the rest of his country thought. Nicholas posed a distraction from the countries
problems. His plan was to keep his soldiers minds off of the horrible living conditions
of Russiaby staying in war with Germany and starting a war with Japan in hope that
he would lead his country to a victory; both wars were lost, giving Russian citizens

unaware of this discontent until people came to his winter palace to protest, many
were killed by the czars soldiers. He created the idea of a parliament, called a

calmed down a little bit after this addition to the government. A few months later,
Germany declared war on Russian. With a withered army, Russia suffered a hard
loss. Some soldiers for the Russians were so angry with the czar that they switched
sides, and fought with the Germans. Nicholas was still oblivious to the threat over
his reign. He received a letter from a member of the Duma complaining about the
horrible state of the country, but Nicholas thought nothing of it. The czar realized
how serious the letter was when everyone in the streets was angry with him. Wanting
to keep his life, he abdicated. Nicholas offered the throne to his brother. An intelligent
man, he declined the offer. After this, the provisional government took over, with

My field experience has been wonderful so far for the first semester. I have gained
valuable information for the last couple on months interning at my agency. For this
self evaluation I will be describing the1 3 and 6 9 competencies I set up at the
beginning of the semester and see if I have achieved these skills. I will also address
the growth and challenges I have come upon throughout this semester. For
competency one on processional and ethical practice I wanted to demonstrate having
a professional behavior, communication, boundaries, and writing skills throughout the
semester. I also wanted to provide integrity, competence, core values, services,
dignity, and worth in the agency and my clients. In addition being aware of the
mandating reporting, parental consent, and legal consent in the school setting. I feel
the growth in this competency I have gained a lot by the agency in proving lots of
training, group supervision, and individual supervision has not only broaden my
skills but have gained valuable knowledge of what to do in certain situations. For
some of the challenges I encounter at the beginning was learningabout mandating
reporting and how much work it goes into calling, summiting the paperwork all this
is a curial aspect when doing a CWS report. For example, when doing my first
mandated report my supervisor stayed and walk me through each step to make sure I
did it correctly which was wonderful and learned the right way to do a mandated

Ancient Greek Architecture
An ancient Greek architect sits in the light of a burning candle concentrating. His
head is exhausted from all the planning and designs he s created, but he can t help to
feel the excitement rushing through his veins. He is about to help birth one of the
most striking, and compelling cities of all time. Greek buildings are seen as
flamboyant, and are looked up to. People want their cities to be just as brilliant as the
Greek s. Ancient Greek architecture inspired modern design, public structures, and
buildings of high importance.

The definitive architectural style on Capitol Hill is neoclassical, inspired by the
use of ancient Greek and Roman styles in the design of great public buildings.
These styles are recognized by the use of tall columns, symmetrical shapes,
triangular pediments and domed roofs. (Capitol Hill Neoclassical Architecture)
Capitol Hill is classic and bold, just like the Greek and Roman people were with
their public buildings. Another example of a Greek inspired building is the United
States Capitol Building. This building is almost an exact replica of a Greek
temple. Another well known example of the neoclassical architecture style on
Capitol Hill is the U.S. Supreme Court Building. Finished and occupied in 1935,
the Supreme Court is meant to resemble a great marble temple. The architect of the
Supreme Court, Cass Gilbert of New York City, drew upon the classical Roman
temple form as the basis for the Court s new building. Reached by a great flight of
broad steps, the portico of tall Corinthian columns gives the building a monumental
entrance. Lower wings flank the central temple and help relate it to the lower scaled
buildings of the nearby Capitol Hill neighborhood. (Capitol Hill Neoclassical

1.In the first crusade the byzantine emperor was afraid of the Turks, Alexius I asked
the roman church for help. he thought that eastern and western Christians should join
forces and make the Turks moves from Anatolia and Palestine. This movement
would be called a holy war or crusade. The pope whose name was Urban II, agreed
to this plan for two reasons, the first reason was because he thought that combining
the east and the west war against the Turks would reunite the eastern and western
churches. The second reason was because he wanted to free Palestine and Jerusalem
from Muslim rule

At first, the Crusade was successful. The European armies reconquered parts of
Anatolia and then captured Jerusalem in 1099 CE. Also, the crusaders returned the
land they conquered in Anatolia to the Byzantine Empire. Then the crusaders set up
four kingdoms in East Asia. The Muslims, however, soon regrouped and conquered
these domains.
4.After this, many western Europeans who took part in the Crusade remained in the
Byzantine Empire. These Europeans were called Latins. They did business in
Constantinople and some of them held government positions. Relations between the
Byzantines and Latins, though, were often strained. The Byzantines viewed the
Latins as savage barbarians. In addition, the Byzantines thought that the religious
beliefs of the Latins were heretical, and the Latins felt similarly about the beliefs of
the Byzantines.
5.Added tension came from the Byzantine relationship with the Venetians. Because of
a trade agreement, Venetians did not have to pay custom duties on imports and
exports. In addition, Venice took control of several Byzantine trade routes. As a
result, the trade profit of Byzantine merchants decreased significantly.
6.All of these factors fueled a growing Byzantine resentment of the Latins and
Venetians. In fact, this hatred boiled over in a riot of Byzantines in Constantinople,
during which thousands of Latins were
27. Pituitary Dwarfism Research Paper
Pituitary Dwarfism is a disease where the growth of someone is slowed or delayed,
usually due to a malfunction in the pituitary gland and it results in a less than normal
stature. It takes place in the pituitary gland which regulates the production of
hormones and it causes normal stature with short limbs. Since the height and growth
is decreased, it results in what many people refer to as a midget. The Pituitary gland
produces many hormones such as the growth hormone, luteinizing, thyroid, prolactin,
follicle stimulating, and oxytocin. A decrease in the production of hormones in the
anterior pituitary is what causes most forms of dwarfism. The decrease occurs during
childhood, and it causes the body to be developed proportionately, but at

barbiturates can be critical in terms of lethality as measured by the therapeutic index.
Describe how this phenomenon might lead to an accidental overdose. Why is this
factor more critical with barbiturates than with other classes of depressant drugs?
Barbiturates are nonselective central nervous system (CNS) depressants, capable of
producing all degrees of depression from mild sedation and hypnosis to general
anesthesia, deep coma and death. The extent of CNS depression varies with the route
of administration, dose and pharmacokinetic characteristics of the particular
barbiturate. Patient specific factors such as age, physical or emotional state and the...

The drug is usually sold as a white powder, either in colorful capsules, tablets, and
suppositories, or dissolved in liquid for injection. Oral ingestion is usually preferred
over injection, since results occur quickly enough with the short acting capsules.
Some barb freaks prefer the surging rush that comes with mainlining, however, and
ignore the possibilities of severe infection and abscess that may result if the vein is
missed and the drug is injected under the skin. Gangrene can occur if an artery is hit,
and may necessitate amputation of the affected part. Barbiturates affect the central
nervous system by depressing or inhibiting nerve signals in the brain, altering
chemical balance and decreasing functions of some organ systems. Heart rate, blood
pressure, respiration, and neurological action are all depressed, and general relaxation
of the skeletal muscles occurs. Effects of the drug increase according to dosage, as
body functions decelerate: from anxiety relief to sedation to hypnosis to anesthesia to
coma to death. Once ingested, the drug enters the bloodstream and is distributed
throughout the body, with the highest accumulation in fat deposits and organ tissues.
Barbiturates are ultimately metabolized and eliminated through the kidneys and liver.
Rate of effect depends on how quickly the drug = moves through the body and is
metabolized. Laboratory tests can indicate the presence of barbiturates in the body.

A master and maker in many fields, Linus Pauling lived a very long and productive
life spanning nearly the entire twentieth century. By the time he was in his twenties,
he had made a name for himself as a scientist. After many significant contributions
including his work on the nature of the chemical bond, he turned to chemical
biology and is generally accepted as the founder of molecular biology. Later in his
life he became very involved in issues of politics and peace for which he is
somewhat less well known. In his later years, he became interested in health and

Linus Pauling had an amazing ability to locate interesting problems and to think of
various novel solutions, eventually discarding some to arrive at the most satisfactory
answer. He used to say that it was easy to think of answers, but that the difficult part
was deciding which were worth anything. The questions that Pauling examined and
the answers that he posited changed the way that we see the world and the way that
chemistry is taught and learned.
Linus Pauling s life and work are, to me, a source of inspiration. I have, for some
time now, been determined to become a scientist. I have always pursued my goals
with tenacity and single mindedness and can relate well with another who has done
the same and with such great success. Linus Pauling s work as well as his ability to
convey his thoughts to large groups of people is exemplary of the level to which I
aspire. It is said that he was an exceptional lecturer with a gift for communicating
complex ideas (Goertzel Goertzel, 1995, xiv). Additionally, his work on the
chemical bond is most important to me because he wanted to understand something
fundamental about the world and was able to do this and to change the way that
people for years to come will learn chemistry and physics. I admire Pauling s

Organization culture is the set of shared values, beliefs, and norms that influences the
way employees think, feel, and behave toward each other, and toward people outside

Communication is the key in all aspects of life, especially in the workforce. Hitt,
Miller, and Colella (2006) define communication as, the process of sending and
receiving symbols with attached meanings (p. 27). When one thinks of Seattle, WA,
one might also think of the famous fish market. Workers there yell back and forth,
and throw fish to the waiting hands of the cashier. Without this important form of
communication and teamwork, the fish might land on the floor, or worse, on a

Believe it or not, but some people purposefully go out in public dressed as a hobo

Summary
Steven J. Stern s text, Peru s Indian Peoples and the Challenge of Spanish
Conquest, highlights from beginning to end Spain s conquest of the Andean people
while articulating the transformation of the relationship between these two peoples.
He illustrates how Spain s efforts toward colonialism of the Andes, transformed the
natives from a self sufficient group of people into an oppressed caste system
known as Indians. Additionally, he introduces the idea that the Spanish needed to
break the indigenous and gain their favor in order successfully establish dominance
over them and their land. While arguing this, he offers several facts, which
contradict the black legend associated with the Spanish and their means of
conquest. In chapter two of Stern s text, he discusses the initial phases of the
Spanish conquest of the Andean people. According to the text, in 1532, 168
conquistadores defeated and captured Atahualpa, the Emperor of the Incas (Stern p
27). It is possible that the Spanish were able to do this because of their advance
weaponry and overall combat skills. This is in addition to the fact that according to
class discussions Atahualpa wanted an audience with the Spanish as a ploy to
capture the Spanish. The Spanish were then able to capture Atahualpa, as they were
already in his vicinity. Stern expands upon the capture of the Incan Emperor saying
that the Andean people were in fact impressed with the Spanish as a result of this as
well as their power and good fortune

arms, and legs could move independently so that the bear would be more like a real

Comparison and Differences of Dangerous Liaisons Novel and Film The film
Dangerous Liaison, directed by Stephen Frears remains just about faithful to the
epistolary novel, Dangerous Liaisons, by Choderlos de Laclos. Stephen Frears does
betray the novel towards the end of the film but, it makes the ending that much more
better and enticing. The film represents what the epistolary novelonly hints at us
readers. The novel is composed of letters where we only get a sense of the

The biggest betrayal the film makes to the novel is the ending. The film ends when
Merteuil goes to the opera to find out she is hated by everyone there, she goes back
to her room and it ends with her removing her makeup, her destiny is left unknown.
In the book, she gets a very painful case of small pox and loses sight in one of her
eyes after her letters to Valmont have been published. When Merteuil removes her
makeup at the end of the film, she is wiping away the surface that made her
attractive, her desirability is being wiped away. Her power has been based on her
appearance and her destruction of her face symbolizes her destruction of herself.
Merteuil no longer is the strong feminist she use to be, she is now a weak woman
just like Tourvel. I think the director made a good choice in changing the ending of
the film. I was shocked and somewhat happy to see Merteuil finally get what she
deserved. The jaw dropper for me was when she fell while leaving the opera it
symbolized her reputation falling too. Everyone use to look up to Merteuil and she
would control them like puppets and now the roles have been turned. For me the
ending of the movie was a lot more satisfying and jaw dropping. Merteuil tried
everything in her power to win the game of revenge and it back fired on her.
Vicomte de Valmont s character in the novel and film are very faithful to each other.

It did not matter if she was of royal blood, or a commoner. She was not equal to a

At the time of the settlement, life like for Indigenous Australians was not fair. It was
due to unintended and intended impacts, conflicts and values. Indigenous people

Given the disadvantages outlined in the above previous paragraphs the resort and spa

employee turnover. One such strategy as quoted in Murphy (2007) is Baskrsky

to agree on the requirements of both guests (external customers) and staff (internal

Music Week magazine article
In the Music Industry there are four main areas:
1.Live Performance
2.Record Companies/Labels
3.Publishing Companies
4.Artist Management
It is vital to know how these four main areas of the music industry operate to this date,
what is happening around you and the impact it has on the world. Also, it is
important to understand their business mechanism, their role within Music Industry
and the relationships between the areas and how they link.
Live Performance:
Live performance in the music industry is big because this is where the most
money is made and how people get their most publicity. Since smart phones, and
the Internet has become such a huge deal, buying CD s is not as common as it was
anymore, which is why live performance is where a lot of the money is made. The
reason behind this is because a lot of the artists/bands fan bases much prefer watching
them live as to listening to an edited, highly compressed electronic version.
The live performance area consists of many different people with many different roles
in the music industry, which are booking, planning, managing, promoting, setting up
and performing. All roles in live performance are all just as important as each other
and cannot be done without one another.
The people that book and secure venues, also known as booking agents mainly book
the artists/bands a venue for a specific time and date. But it is not the booking agents
that decide on when and where to book for the
41. How the Theme of Knowledge Helps to Explain
Frankenstein...
Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, raises important questions as to how the theme of
knowledge helps to explain the story. The main focus of Frankenstein is the power
of knowledge and how dangerous it can be. This power is portrayed in the main
characters of the novel: Victor Frankenstein and the monster. The theme of
knowledge helps to answer the question as to why Victor decides to tell Walton his
secret. Both of these characters reveal a passion of discovery and intellect, which
Victor has made his past and Walton only his future. Their obsessions of knowledge
are mirrored in one another through the journeys they take until their paths cross.
Finally, the question of the concluding effect of the conversation between Walton and
the creature... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is so consumed by keeping his secret safe; his loved ones are murdered as a
result. For example, Henry Clervel has his life taken as an outcome of Victor s
betrayal to the creature. Victor s failure to warn Henry creates increasing guilt
which continues until the death of Elizabeth. He thinks of himself instead of
logically warning his wife of the monster s dangerous threats, I shall be with you
on your wedding night. (176) Right until Victor s death, science is viewed as the
only way of knowledge, as quoted, the more fully I entered into the science, the
more exclusively I pursued it for its own sake. (77) This knowledge is ultimately
used against him; the monster knows what Victor is capable of and uses his ability
of creating life as a threat to make a new creature to acquaint the monster. As Victor
contemplates this idea, he is also threatened by the possibility of new life being
created, ... a race of devils would be propagated upon the earth (174) which dictate
his actions in destroying the wife of the creature. Knowledge ultimately consumes
Victor. The power of knowledge is portrayed in the monster because of his ability in
absorbing intelligence from the environment and applying it to the applicable
situations. Victor built the creature as an overgrown, hideous baby with immense
physical traits. Victor quotes, I had been the author of unalterable
42. The Greek And Greek Influence Of The Roman Empire
Another empire would soon take many influences from the Greeks. In Rome, an
empire was beginning to rise. Roman civilization had its roots in Hellenistic culture
because they idolized them. They borrowed and enhanced upon the Greek intellectual
accomplishments. As the empire expanded this would become increasingly
important. As the Romans continued to expand their empire and influence, they were
also spreading the culture of those who influenced them the Greeks. The Roman
Empireat their peak had a vast control over much of the Mediterranean and into
Europe controlling much of Britain, Spain, France, the North African coast, much of
Asia minor. Within these regions they had vast numbers provinces where they would

These effects reached from China, India, the Middle East, and some portions of
Africa. As different regions adopted new aspects of life, they further implement that
into their culture. Then the as the culture grows, it grows with the influences adopted
form that of the Romans who borrowed it form the Greeks. Similarly, with the
Romans and Macedonians their conquest and implementation of their culture was the
main source of the spread of Hellenistic culture. However the combination of
controlling more regions and being more involved with global trade, the Romans
were able to further expand Greek influence than those before them. Soon the Roman
Empire began to decline and an even more impactful implementation of Greek culture
began to arise in a region to the east.
As the Roman Empire fell and small Kingdoms began to arise throughout Europe, in
a different region of the world, an intellectual revolution began and flourished.
During a period between the eighth and ninth centuries, the Islamic world of the
Middle East Experienced its Golden Age . This was a period of advancements in the
sciences, astronomy, mathematics, and medicine. The main source contributed to
these advancements is from the Greeks. However this Golden Age may have been
delayed for many years if not for a man named Mamun. Mamun was a Caliph who

43. The Black Death And Its Effects On Western Europe Essay
The Black death was a tragic epidemic that affected much of Europe and Asia in the
14th century. Ships that were infested with rats and fleas would travel all over
different countries for trade. The rodents would carry a certain bacteria called
Yersinia Pestis . Fleas bit rats and then carried the bacteria in their system. They
would then feed on humans and that was how the Black Death was created and
spread. People that got bitten had a variety of lethal symptoms such as fever,
weakness, abdominal pain, chills, shock, and eventually death. It was named the
Black Death due to the fact that bleeding of tissues caused people to have dark
patches all over their skin. Many people believed this was God s way of punishing
them for committing sins. 75 200 million people died because of this disease. This
plague triggered a big cultural revolution and rebirth all over Western Europe during
the mid 1400s to the late 1600s. This rebirth of Greek and Roman culture is known
as the Renaissance. Many cultural aspects of Ancient Rome and Greek city states
such as the art, architecture, philosophy, literature, science, and political ideas were
re established to the Europeans by Byzantine and Islamic scholars. Money to pay for
this came from Italian city states that controlled trade in the Mediterranean and
England, Spain, France, and Portuguese American colonies. This motivated people to
do things they found interest in, learn from others, find the truth, and to criticize

45. The Feelings Of Nature And Man
The Feelings of Nature and Man
Shelley s novel Frankenstein really describes Victor Frankenstein s state of mind as it
impacts the thematic movement of the novel, using light, color, speed, temperature,
sound and smell. The similarities that are used in Shelley s novel between
Frankenstein s feelings and the landscapes he describes are striking. Victor
Frankenstein, a man with great determination and pride, had a strong desire to prove
people wrong that he could create life. Trying to successfully prove to everyone that
he could become the greatest scientist ever, he attempted life creating alchemy;
however in the process of doing so he created a monster that he feared. Shocked by
the fact that he created such a beast, he was not ... Show more content on

Paralleling nature and human emotion, the first part to that quote shows that Victor
is accompany by that bad storm because of the bad things that has happened to him.
Victor is just like that sad man you would see in cartoons accompanied by a dark
cloud above his head. Then Victor was in a state where he is clouded by every
thought. The thick mist that hid the summits of the mountains is just like Victor s
mind. Until that mist that is blocking him is gone you won t be able to think clearly
about what has happened in his life. As Victor continues to climb up the mountain he
gets this emotional feeling looking into the distance. I resolved to ascend to the
summit of Montanvert. I remembered the effect that the view of the tremendous and
ever moving glacier had produced upon my mind when I first saw it. (Ch10). This
nature that always accompanied him not only does it just imamate his emotions but
it also bring him joy. Victor was so into nature at that moment it was like he just
cease to exist and the only think that he cared about was nature. The affect that
nature had for Victor was such a huge impact that he didn t want anyone to follow
him into paradise as he explained, I determined to go without a guide, for I was well
acquainted with the path, and the presence of another would destroy the solitary
grandeur of the scene. (Ch10). These passages shows me that the sublime nature in
the story accompanies Victor. Victor needed the

the East Oregonian and submitted his story to the Associated Press. The story was
picked up and published in papers across the country. Along the way the phrase
flying saucers was coined for what Kenneth Arnold had seen. As the story spread
more people started reporting seeing similar objects of varies shapes and sizes

Coming from a working class family, I know all too well the troubles of making
ends meet. However, the rates of poverty that I have witnessed here in New York
have been mind blowing. The streets are lined with people in need of money, food,
jobs, and shelter. Fortunately, I am able to manage my monthly expenses by using
funds from scholarships and educational loans. Without my educational aid I would
be in some of the same financial situations that many of our clients face. In fact, I
would be one step away from living on the streets. It would be extremely difficult
for me to manage on a fixed income with TANF. This would require me to give up
my apartment, car, phone, and even the ability to eat and travel as I please. If
anything, my current

There are now approximately 170 various denominations that identify as Pentecostal.
The Charismatic movement, or neo Pentecostalism, was born in 1960 when Episcopal
priest Dennis Bennett, during the Passion Sunday service, both spoke in tongues and
announced that he had received baptism in the Holy Spirit. Although this event is
associated with the official beginning of the Charismatic movement, it must be noted
that many other Pentecostals and even mainline Christians are considered essential to
the birth and spread of the movement. They include such names as David du Plessis,
Smith Wigglesworth, Agnes Sanford, Kenneth McAll, Presbyterian pastor James
Brown, and Lutheran minister Harald Bredesen. Those who embrace the beliefs and
practices of the Charismatic movement do not generally align themselves with any
particular mainline Christian denomination. However, Charismatics are found today
in all the major Christian denominations, especially in the Pentecostal, Lutheran,
Episcopalian, and Catholic Churches. The term Charisma means gift, so therefore
Charismatics denote those that demonstrate one or many of the supernatural gifts of
the Holy Spirit.
B. The Beliefs of the Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements
Pentecostals and Charismatics have similarities in their theological and
ecclesiological beliefs. Both Pentecostals and Charismatics believe in the following:

50. The Invention Of The Electron Microscope By Ernst
Ruska...
In the scientific community, there have been many advancements in the technologies
and processes used to help us understand the truth of the world around us. The
invention of the electron microscope by Ernst Ruska and Max Knoll in 1933 is just
an example of one of these advancements. There is another advancement that has
roots over one hundred and sixty million years old, and that is the green fluorescent
protein(GFP). The fluorescence from GFP molecules has made it feasible to look
through a microscope at a spatial resolution higher than the diffraction limit. The
green fluorescent proteinwas first found in the Aequorea Victoria, or the crystal
jellyfish. It is a bioluminescent hydrozoan jellyfish, or hydromedusa (1). In the
crystal jellyfish, there are two proteins that are responsible for its bioluminescent,
aequorin and GFP. They are both located in the photo organs of the jellyfish. The
jellyfish releases calcium ions which the aequorin binds to. The process of binding
gives off a blue light, which is then absorbed by the GFP. The blue light absorbed is
then converted into the green light that GFP is named for (2). At the moment there
is no apparent reason for the bioluminescence displayed by the Aequorea Victoria
since it has not been observed being used as a defense mechanism or as a signalling
mechanism. Osamu Shimomura was the first person to isolate the GFP. He started to
study the bioluminescence of crystal jellyfish at Princeton University in 1960 and he

In America, crime is a huge topic. However, many don t realize that race plays a big
role in crime as well, or they choose to ignore that fact. It s important to realize the
injustices that take place in crime due to race, and how many laws would likely be

It s no secret that shootings are a big problem within the United States, especially

52. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wavelets
Wavelets, based on time scale representations, provide an alternative to time
frequency representation based signal processing. Wavelets are then represented by
dilation equations, as opposed to difference or differential equations. Wavelets
maintain orthogonality with respect to their dilations and translations. Orthogonality
of wavelets with respect to dilations leads to multigrid representation. Wavelets
decompose the signal at one level of approximation into approximation and detail
signals at the next level. Thus subsequent levels can add more detail to the
information content. The perfect reconstruction property of the analysis and
synthesis wavelets and the absence of perceptual degradation at the block boundaries
favor use of wavelets... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same procedure is adapted to obtain one level 2 D DWT by using two vertical
filters as shown in Fig. 1. Implementation results are discussed in section 4. The
advantage of flipping method is it requires only four multipliers and eight adders
instead of eight multipliers and four adders to implement 9/7 filter compare to lifting
scheme. Main disadvantage of flipping is serial operation. In 1 D DWT of FA, odd
and even input samples are processed by five blocks namely пЃЎ, пЃў, пЃ§, пЃ¤,
пЃёпЂ (пЃё1 пЃё2)in the cascade manner.пЃё1 пЃё2are scaling blocks. Since the
output from one block is fed as the input to the next block, the maximum rate at
which the input can be fed to the system depends on the sum of the delays in all
four stages. The speed may be increased by introducing pipelining at the points
indicated by dotted lines Fig.3. In this case, the input rate is determined by the
largest delay among all four blocks. The delay in the individual stages may be
reduced further by using constant coefficient multiplier (KCM) which uses a look up
table (LUT) for finding the product of a constant and a variable. 2.2 Modified
Flipping Architecture Modified flipping architecture (MFA) is implemented using
MBW PKCM technique.
