Essay On Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" poses a unique set of challenges,
given the complex nature of the characters and the profound philosophical questions embedded
in Robert Louis Stevenson's work. To begin with, delving into the duality of human nature as
portrayed in the novella requires a deep understanding of the psychological intricacies presented
by Dr. Jekyll's experimentations. The task becomes more intricate as one attempts to analyze the
transformation of Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde, exploring the underlying motives, psychological
struggles, and the moral implications of this split personality.
Furthermore, the essay demands a comprehensive exploration of the Victorian society's impact
on the narrative, considering the strict societal norms and expectations prevalent during that era.
Unraveling the symbolism and allegorical elements in the text adds another layer of complexity,
as Stevenson skillfully weaves a tapestry of meanings that reflect the human condition.
Moreover, the challenge lies in connecting these literary elements cohesively while presenting a
unique and insightful interpretation. Striking a balance between textual analysis, critical
perspectives, and personal insights is essential to produce a well-rounded essay that engages the
reader intellectually.
In conclusion, navigating the intricate web of psychological, societal, and literary elements in an
essay on "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" demands a careful and nuanced approach. The complexity of
the characters and themes requires an in-depth exploration to unravel the layers of meaning
embedded in Stevenson's masterpiece.

Introduction This paper will attempt to compare two systematic review articles on the
topic of restraints and seclusion (S R) and its implications within the child adolescent
population and developmentally impaired persons. The articles should present
evidence to address claims on reduction while the results of the studies provide
evidence on rationales to these practices. Aggressive behaviors by both of these
populations in inpatient psychiatric facilities at some point become a safety issue in
terms of assault and injury for both. Both reviews focus on incidences of seclusion
and restraints and ways to reduce usage. The articles aim to answer what the current
state of evidence is supporting restraints and reduction methods. Nonetheless,
interventions are needed to reduce restriction and restraint utilization in children and
persons with developmental disabilities (Menon, Raghavendra, Bernard 2010)
Phenomenon of Interest The article Initiatives to reduce the use of seclusion and
restraints on people with developmental disabilities: A systematic review and
quantitative synthesis, analyzes the use of R S within the developmental disabled.
According to Gaskin, Mcvilly McGillivray (2013) there is insufficient evidence that
explores these practices among this population. There is also not enough evidence for
aggression management measures and training in de escalation procedures. The
review assesses studies that introduce interventions and the effects of R S
Defense Of Violence In Sport
Sport resembles war. In fact, sport was originally built on the premise of preparing
soldiers for battle in ancient times. Violence was very prevalent in Ancient Rome and
has since deceased because of the emergence of modern sport (Jovašević
Batrićević, 2013). Violence in sport today is not just committed by the athletes,
but by coaches and spectators (Corbett et al., 2008). Although violencehas been
involved in sport for quite some time, the question still remains is violence ethical?
Cashmore (as cited in, Wagg et at, 2014) believes that sportsmen and women have
no reason to participate in sport for extrinsic money or rewards. Because of modern
sports development economics now plays a bigger role and has the potential to harm
the ethos... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
v. McSorley case, McSorley was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, his
hockey stick. McSorley struck Donald Brashear in the back of the head with his
stick in the last seconds of the game (Lawless, 2016). McSorley claimed not to
have intended to hit Brashear in the head, but simply the shoulder (R. v. McSorley,
2000). This makes the intention in this case a real issue. McSorley used the
defence of recklessness (R. v. McSorley, 2000). Recklessness is where a person
knew, or ought to have known, that the conduct would likely cause serious injury
to another (Corbett et al., 2008, Pg.45). McSorley claimed to not have intended the
outcome or striking the head, but he did the action knowing the outcome could be
an injury (R. v. McSorley, 2000). Marc Crawford the head coach of the Vancouver
Canucks stated there was no chance for Donald to expect that it was coming...it
was significant force. (R.v. McSorley, 2000, Pg.8). It is very clear that Donald did
not consent to the force of the overtly violent act. There are defences that can be
used when charged with criminal assault and they are: lack of intent to inflict
harm, defence from an attack, and an instinctive reaction (Corbett et al., 2008, 41).
Not included in the list of defences is provocation because it cannot be used as a
credible defence to assault (Corbett et al., 2008). McSorley and his defence of
recklessness were stricken down based on the fact that even a small child would not
have missed hitting another person in the shoulder instead of the head if that was
their true intention (Lawless, 2016). Eventually McSorley was found guilty of
assault with a weapon and was given probation, a suspension from the NHL and
never played again (Lawless,
Summary Of Uncle Calvin s Cafe Essay
Dallas, unlike Seattle, isn t exactly known for its coffee. However, each of these
choices seem to stand out from among a bevy of lesser candidates. These Dallas
area coffeehouses were all chosen on the basis of style and atmosphere and all
around good service; not to mention their great coffee offerings. All three of these
coffeehouses offer a delightful selection of beverages. Two of them are more
conventional coffeehousechoices, while the third offers Asian bubble tea lattes and
coffeedrinks. These are my absolute favorite coffeehouses. The next time you re in
Dallas, I highly recommend giving them all a try. First, we have Uncle Calvin s
Coffeehouse. Uncle Calvin s has been providing great coffee and good music for
more than 20 years. The weekend live shows are always chock full of terrific
artists, good eats, great atmosphere and wonderful people. Prices range from low to

Analysis Of The Documentary Pirates, Galleons, And...
When watching Pirates, Galleons, and Treasure: Globe Trekker , one certainly does
learn something about pirates and their history. However, that does not mean the
documentary is particularly useful. In fact, the documentary while mostly accurate
still has some small discrepancies and does not provide enough detail for it to be
helpful to those actually studying pirates. The documentary is a fun resource for
those who want basic facts, but leaves some facts to assumptions and seems to gloss
over some information. It tends to focuses on myths and interesting stories that may
have been true rather than the truth. More attention is also put on cities rather pirates
and when it does focus on the pirates, it is not done well. It tends to... Show more

Pirates, Galleons and Treasure also shows pirate stories being romanticised when they
speak about the relationship of Anne Bonny and Calico Jack.
Within the documentary, Anne Bonny and Calico Jack are shown to be lovers
and while that may be true it is still not confirmed. The documentary presents this
idea as a fact and even goes on to talk about Bonny being the mother of his child,
leaving out the fact that it is also speculated that Bonny had slept with her jailors
so it is not confirmed that it is his child (Konstam, 2011, p.166). Bonny s father is
said to have had a possible role in her escape (Konstam, 2011, p.185), instead of the
claim that no one knows at all where she could have gone in the documentary. Also
in the video, Calico Jack is said to be responsible for designing the skull and cross
bone flag (Pirates, Galleons and Treasure, 2007), when the flag had been first been
spotted in 1700 by a pirate named Wyn way before Calico Jack (The Golden Age,
2016) and the only pirate to be known to fly a true skull and cross bone flag is
Edward England (Konstam, 2011, p.193). Essentially, Pirates, Galleons and Treasures
does not seem to show accurate or unbiased information, or at least towards the
pirates they talk about. This documentary seems to portray pirates in a positive
Symbolism In My Brother Sam Is Dead
It s a funny thing. You d think that if there was a war going on in your own country,
it would make your life different. (Collier 38) Tim, the protagonist, is trying to live
an ordinary life during time of the Revolutionary War as he works on his family s
tavern. However, his brother Sam wants to join the Rebel Army and wants to defeat
the British, otherwise known as the Loyalists who Sam and Tim s father support as
they support the king. In My Brother Sam Is Deadthe author s James Lincoln Collier
and Christopher Collieruse the Brown Bess to symbolize power and authority.
Throughout the story, the brothers use father getting hurt because the soldiers
think that father has the gun to link to show power. For example in the text it
states, The officer looked at father, considering. Finally he said, I don t believe you.
He raised the sword. I gasped and the officer whipped the flat side of the blade
across Father s face. (Collier 51) Here, father getting sliced shows that father was
trying to be honest and saying that he doesn t have the gun because he knows that
Sam has it and took it. Also, I m telling you the truth my son ran off to your army and
took my gun. We have no weapons here but butcher knives. ( Collier 51) This textual
evidence shows that the officer wanted the gun and thought that father was lying
about that he didn t have the gun but the author thought he had the gun. Since the
police thought father was lying so he took the knife and sliced father.
Hypertension ( Htn ) Is A Major Public Health Issue...
Hypertension (HTN) is a major public health issue affecting 70 million African
American males in the United States (CDC,2015) and predisposing them to
cardiovascular diseases (Scranton, Goldstein, Stecher, 2013). The WHO (2013)
defines HTN as a systolic blood pressure of equal or greater than 140 mm/Hg or a
diastolic blood pressure of equal or greater than 90 mm/ Hg. In addition, a large
portion of patient s diagnosed with HTN also have a diagnosisof erectile dysfunction
(ED), both of which when left untreated can have a negative impact on quality of
life. ED has been defined by Adebusoye et al., (2012), the lack of sufficient sexual
intercourse due to inability of a penile erection in male. Compounding the high
incidence of HTN and ED among African American males, is the problem of non
adherence to prescribed anti hypertensive medications. Real or perceived ED
associated with the adverse side effects of anti hypertensive medications is a chief
reason for non adherence to anti hypertensive medications among males (Kakkavas
et al., 2013). This research study will use The Health Belief Model to investigate the
correlation between African American males with dual diagnoses of HTN and ED
who are non adherent to anti hypertensive medications. More specifically, this study
will scrutinize the adverse side effects of anti hypertensive medications in relation to
complications of untreated HTN, one of which is ED. The results of this study could
be used to educate
The Revolution Of The Communist Party
When you are in a revolution as large as the Bolsheviks were in Russia, it can be
reasonably expected that everyone in their group is in on it. There are a myriad of
different opinions possible but if you were a member of the Communist party, you
would think you would be expected to commit to and follow communist beliefs. In
the article Paper Communists Gayle Lonergan, from the University of Oxford, paints
a picture of men who saw the communist party as a way out. She documents how
many men saw such benefits as preferential food rations and free health care (p.
139)(1) and wanted to have the opportunity to get out of the farm country. Lonergan
also argues the key issue of how much of the communist population was actually
committed to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear Evaluation The dominant purpose of this article seems to be to say that
the Bolsheviks only managed to stay afloat as a movement because after they were
victorious in the early part of the civil war, peasants saw them as the attractive
option which to ride on. Leading to (for a short period of time) an incredibly large
influx of peasants. Lonergan spends the majority of the article walking on a
tightrope, saying that it was embarrassing for the Bolsheviks to have their ranks
filled with all of these inexperienced men looking to get out of work while at the
same time documenting the irony of the truth that the Bolsheviks based in Central
Russia did not have the manpower to convince the masses outside of Moscow and
Petrograd. They would not have been able to reach the further points of Russia and
Siberia because people were not necessarily interested in the Communist beliefs there
but they were interested at the opportunity of sitting in an office all day rather than
manual labour on a farm. It is clear that even though the Paper Communists had a
strong lacsidaisical attitude towards the movement they were a key part of the
advancement of the Bolshevik movement. Lonergan disagrees with both some
scholars that she references in the article as well as the traditional
Memory in The Drowned And the Saved by Primo Levi
Essay
Primo Levi, in The Drowned and the Saved, expresses theories of memory. My
objective is to prove that Primo Levi s theories of memory being transitive and
selective are correct. I will do this by examining and critiquing not only Levi s
perspective on memory, but also those of other philosophers and psychoanalysts
whose work explored the subject.
Writer and chemist, survivor and witness, Primo Levi was born in Turin, Italy, in
1919. Like most Italian Jews of his generation, Levi was assimilated to the hilt:
quot;Religion, quot; he later recalled, quot;did not count for much in my family.
quot; In 1938, however, his religion of Judaism became a sudden and serious liability.
That year, Mussolini s government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Myriam Anissimov, author of The Tragedy of an Optimist, explores the complex
nature of a man who was both a strong and spirited survivor as well as a man prone
to severe depression, a man who felt misunderstood and certain that future generations
would forget and deny what many would call the central informing disaster of the
century. The biography expresses many of theories on memory and exemplifies a
memory in itself; as he bears witness to the past.
Primo Levi explores memory in a much deeper fashion than society. The fact that
Levi devoted his time to a subject society does not care to pay much attention to, is
attractive to me. It is interesting the way Levi presents and supports his theories. For
example, Levi argues that memory is selective. Levi then uses the example:
A person who has been wounded tends to block out the memory so as not to renew
the pain; the person who has inflicted the wound pushes the memory deep down, to
be rid of it, to alleviate the feeling of guilt. (Pg. 24)
Society encounters wounds everyday, whether mentally or physically. Do you think
society is worrying about those wounds becoming memories at a later date? Levi
does this because he has experienced what it feels like to have a terrible experience
turn into a horrific memory, which is what makes Levi s writings
Ethiopian Jew Research Paper
ETHIOPIAN JEWS
Throughout the bible, the people of Ethiopia had intermingled and intermarried with
the descendants of Shem even before Abraham was born. Abraham and his
descendants have racially intermixed and intermarried with the Ethiopians from the
beginning of the Hebrew Jewish origins, as many Ethiopians were known to be
Hebrew Jewish descent. Moses and his family were Hebrews having Ethiopian
origins. There are many Jewish communities in Ethiopia today, and one of these
groups are the Falashas or Beta Israel meaning the House of Israel . The Falasha are
believed to descent from Menelik 1, who was known to be the son of Solomon and
Queen of Sheba. The large number of the orthodox Jews believed that the Falasha
were the descendants of the tribe of Dan, and they were among the ten lost tribes of
Israel that was taken to exile by the Assyrians in 722 BC. It was also believed that

have always had close contacts with the children of Israel from ancient time.
According to (Judges 1:16, Numbers 12:1), the Ethiopian descendants of Moses

Waaha Case Study
Wahaha is the largest soft drink producer in China, competing with the big players
including Pepsi and Coca Cola. It was founded in 1987 when the company began
selling soda water, ice cream, and stationary to children. The founder, Zong
Qinghou, found that there are 38 companies in the nation producing nutritional
drinks but none of them were targeted to children. The idea became an instant
success and increased the revenue to RMB400 million by 1990. However,
management soon realized this growth would be difficult to sustain and they
would have to act fast in order to expand market share and increase the company
growth. One advantage for Wahaha is that they had a solid cash position without
any long term bank debt which isn t company for Chinese companies of their size.
They also set specific goals to achieve like establishing subsidiaries in provinces
which ended up being a very successful endeavor. Wahaha underwent many brand
extensions which sparked a lot of debate about whether or not it would dilute the
brand. Zong argued that extended the brand into categories that didn t have a
dominant brand yet would benefit Wahaha overall. This ended up being a very
successful idea. They also had a strong brand known for health, wholesomeness,
happiness, quality and reliability, and just a brand for children s nutritious drinks .
The company was able to growth further due to acquisitions. This helped the
company expand to different regions and provinces while growing brand recognition
and share of the markets. One of Wahaha strongest competitive strategies was their
ability to lead the market by having strong management within the company.
Competitors would follow close on their heels but none were able to surpass
because of poor company management this included larger companies as well. Zong
attributed the company s success to its superior understanding of the Chinese
market: Market research reports in China are not reliable. You pay the market
research firms large amounts of money and you don t know where the money was
spent. However, our own marketing people are market research staff since we are
always collecting information about the market, and we make decisions based on

Siegfried vs Beowulf Essay examples
Any relations in a social order will endure, if there is infused into them some of that
spirit of human sympathy which qualifies life for immortality.
George William Russell
Homer defines a hero as one who acquires and maintains honor through victory in
battle while embracing a highly individualistic attitude. Homer s epic warriors were
self interested in order to preserve their honor and to acquire fame the currency used
by the hero to achieve immortality. Heroes of this archetype often show a neglectful
disregard for the lives of their warriors and supporting cast. This is symptomatic of
their obsession with acquiring honor over building relationships (Dunkle). But how
can a hero protect his fame ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following the structure of the Homeric hero, Beowulf s only concern is becoming
king and dying gloriously in battle to get into Valhalla, a heaven reserved for the
brave warriors who died fighting in combat. He is so blinded by his goals that he
discounts the well being of his men.
This is exemplified in the scene where Beowulf recounts his battle with Grendel to
King Hrothgar. He fails to mention that one of his men played the role of the
sacrificial lamb, while the others assisted in defeating the beast the whole process
was a joint effort. However, for the 20 lines of his recount, he emphasizes how
pleased he is with Grendel writhing from pain, beaten by his bare hands (Heaney line
957 977). He is insinuating that he alone is responsible for the creature s death. The
only time the martyr is mentioned is when the chieftain gifting Beowulf s men
reveals that one man s daring prevented the doom [of killing more of the men]
(Heaney line 1056). This episode suggests that Beowulf is indifferent to the deaths of
even those who are supposedly closest to him, as he remains emotionally undamaged
while boasting about his defeat. His lack of sympathy disables him from creating a
substantial bridge between him and his men. Siegfried, on the other hand, desires
human interaction. Unlike Beowulf, he has an affinity for securing his relationships
with others by developing strong loyalties
The Use Of Ketamine As A Narcotic Medication Prescribed

Ketamine is a narcotic medication prescribed as an anesthetic agent and an analgesic.
The articles argue for adding broadening Ketamine s therapeutic boundaries in
relation to what is legally prescribed in the U.S.A. Specifically, broadening to include
Ketamine as an anti depressive treatment. The difference between these articles lie in
what ways Ketamineis perceived as a useful antidepressant and how those conclusions
are formed. I chose this topic because I am a certified Pharmacy Technician.
Medications are naturally an interest for me and any opportunity to learn more about
them may benefit my current experience and future in Science.
Review of the Literature
Summary of Theories:All three articles All articles support use of ketamine as an
antidepressant but support ketamine s scope to different lengths. Lee, Della Selva,
Liu and Himelhoch (2005) state that in comparison to medications available,
Ketamine is fast acting and effective. Furthermore, Szymkowicz, Finnegan, and Dale
agree with this notion but to further expand, they state Ketamine as beneficial for
suicidal patients. Lastly, Price, Iosifescu, Murrough, Chang, Al Jurdi, Iqbal,
Soleimani, Charney, Foulkes and Mathew underline a necessary characteristic for
positive results, that is, patients should be under 65 years of age.
Summary of Findings and Recommendations:

This could change Holden by, him seeing that he can change his ways. The man

the case of the walruses. One detail about the case of walruses is that it showcases
one walruses alone on the right that looks like it s lost while a family of walruses
on the left side that looks like they re together. This is significance because Holden
is just like the walrus on the right, lost and not having many close people to talk to.
If Holden saw this it would move him deeply because he would be just like the
lone walrus, a person who is lost and seems to fail everything in life, then when he

The Wasps Nest Poem
The Wasp s Nest by James L Rosenberg serves to primarily describe the life and
troubles of wasps, making references to how they build their nests and interact with
the humans around them. However, in the final stanza Rosenberg draws parallels
between the life of a wasp and humans. Through his use of harsh diction while at
the same time maintaining a somewhat solemn tone, Rosenberg is able to express
the poem s bigger idea having to build lasting love and relationships while trying to
deal with the conflicts that life brings you. This poem has both a literal and a
figurative storyline. The literal tells the story of wasps building their nests on the
narrator s mailbox, and the idea that he could destroy all of their work and life s
ambitions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line 9 the poet says Their insubstantial and their only home . These theirs , as
well as repeated use of the word they throughout the entire home, puts emphasis on
the fact that it is wasps as a whole that he is referring to on. Since he draws the
parallel between humans and wasps, it can be concluded through this that he is also
referring to humanity as whole, as if the struggles he is referring to are universal. The
use of the metaphor two aerial tigers at the start gives the impression that the wasps
are fierce and strong, similar to tigers and not mere insects. To emphasize the wasps
persistent nature (similarly the persistent nature of humans), the poet uses
onomatopoeia in line 3, And resonantly, savagely a hum . This expresses the
continuous buzz of the wasps a hum referring the humming sound they make as they
work. This is explored further in line 14 where he refers to their hummed devotions ,
their buzzing reminding him of the fact that nothing is stopping them from
continuing to work. The struggles in life that the poet refers to are reflected through
the oxymoron fragile citadels in the last stanza. The idea that something strong such
as a citadel can be fragile shows how wasps and humans can build up a strong barrier
that can be weakened with one

The opening pages of chit chat, the reply to Time magazine, the celebrity talk
about Lowell, Macdonald, Goodman, the fierce competitiveness all this tells us
from the beginning that this is Mailer s story (Dickstein 149). By choosing to
depict acts in which he took part and from his point of view Mailer is able to make
the validity of his statements implicit he actually saw what he is writing about. At
the same time though, questions of how much Mailer s bias is affecting the novel
are raised. Mailer is able to address these questions of possible bias by making it
exceedingly obvious when his bias is at play. As Hellmann notes, Calling himself the
Novelist and self consciously using the contrivances of novelistic form, Mailer
makes us view the facts of his work as both reliable (in that we are fully shown their
source in his firsthand observation) and doubtful (in that we are constantly reminded
that they result merely from such observation) (39).
Instead of trying to hide this bias, Mailer uses it to further strengthen his work. An
example of Mailer s use of bias is in his description of the US Marshals he saw while
waiting on the bus which would take him to prison, he begins with their faces are
considerably worse than he had expected and they had the kind of faces which
belong to bad guys in a Western (150). This establishes Mailer s biased view of the
US Marshals and by providing these
The Federalist 10, By James Madison
In the Federalist 10, it is mostly about the constitution. It was written by James
Madison, who oversaw it. The main purpose of this article is faction. In politics,
faction is people that group themselves. Madison said that in the republic. Madison
says that the number one common characteristic is the largest people. The democracy
would be possible because you couldn t create a majority group of people that would
have a lot in common. However now, democracy become too big in this scale. People
don t have much in common. That was the anti federalist concerned. And now
Madison came up by saying that just because there are larger group of people that

Essay on The Cmapion Land Deal
The Cmapion Land Deal
The acquisition of the so called former Champion lands resulted from one of the
most complicated land deals in Vermont history. The Champion Lands in Vermont
were part of a larger deal involving almost 300,000 arces in New York, New
Hampshire as well as Vermont. The specifics of how the property was transferred to
the current owners are relevant because in some cases the provisions of the transfer
mandate certain types of management or constrain management in other ways.
On October 8, 1997, Champion International Inc. announced its intention to sell
approximately 200,000 acres in the Northern Forest. Champion, and the St. Regis
Paper Company before it, had owned these lands for decades, and during the last ...

An important part of this model was to divide the Champion lands into separate but
complementary ownerships on the basis of ecological values and basic management
purposes: areas with the greatest ecological significance would be publicly owned
and protected, with timber harvesting precluded on substantial acreages to allow
natural processes like forest succession to occur unimpeded; and the most productive
timber lands, with fewer special ecological values, would be kept in private
ownership with a requirement that they be managed for long term sustainable
forestry. Public access for a variety of historic uses and other activities would be
guaranteed on the entirety of the property.
When the possibility of acquiring the Champion lands had first arisen, the Vermont
Agency of Natural Resources requested that TNC lead a process to identify the
most ecologically significant portions of those lands. VANR, TNC, TCF and the
other partners in the acquisition used the results of that analysis to determine which
parts of the overall property should be publicly owned either by the State of
Vermont or the federal government, and which should remain under private
ownership as a working forest. Ultimately, the VANR acquired more than 22,000
acres of land south of Route 105 that now comprise the West Mountain WMA, and
the USFWS acquired 26,000 acres encompassing much of the Nulhegan Basin north
of Route 105 as part of the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge. The
Essay about The Viking
The Vikings Viking History The Vikings were a group of Scandinavian raiders that
were around from about the 8th century to the 11th. They mainly attacked the
British Islands , the Frankish empire, England, but they also plundered places such
as the Iberian peninsula and northern Africa. Vikings did not always settle into the
places that they found, for instance after exploring North America they left the
place never to return again. Even so, after landing on Greenland they colonized
themselves there, and ancestors of the Vikings still live there today. So now that
you know a little about the history of the Vikings lets go into detail about the
specifics of the Viking age. (Peter Sawyer, Oxford Ill. History of the Vikings p. 1 19)

army. In the years following the first attack Viking s gained leadership, and by 839,
a brave Viking chieftain named Turges, declared himself king of Ireland. Turges
sacrificed the Irish kings Armagh and Clonmacnois, to Thor, a Viking god. The
Vikings organized attacks very well, they set more and more extravagant goals,
and soon met them. Their attacks on England were successful mostly because no
one expected them. In May of 841, Danish Vikings led by a man named Asgeir

moved into St. Denis, but decided that it was in their best interest not to provoke
the passing Frankish army. But they went right back at it again in 842 they

Viking hero and his army sailed up the Loire River and conquered Paris by defeating
half of Charles the Bald s army. The other half were on the other side of the river and

Introduction: Sledgehammer games making the next Call of Duty
It seems like every year since 2007, Call of Duty has been the same game and for the

Activision is preparing to fix this problem with Sledgehammer games creating the

Though our situations are different, I find it relatable to give into uncertainty. To
allow myself to get overwhelmed with irrational fear. Making the mistake of getting
so stuck in my own thoughts, that I forget the promises of God. I forget that life has it

The Singularity Is Near Book Response
The Singularity is Near: Book Response The Singularity is Near was written by Ray
Kurzweil in 2005. Kurzweil looks into the near future and confidently predicts where
we, as a species, will find ourselves. The Singularity is a future period at which
artificial intelligence will match and exceed the intelligence of humans, including the
problem solving skills, pattern recognition, even emotional and moral intelligence of
the human brain. We will reach this point relatively soon. Kurzweil estimates that the
Singularity will arrive in 2045. An important reason why we are reaching this point is
exponential growth. As time goes on, we double the growth of computing
consistently. As you can see in the chart on the right, the growth of computing has
increased drastically. This is because it increases at an exponential rate instead of
linear. Linear growth is steady; exponential growth becomes explosive. An

datasets that are too big to process in traditional ways such as databases and simple
analytics software. The size of big data is a moving target as storage and processing
capacities grow. Because these datasets are so big (100 petabytes if you are

After watching the movie Goodnight and Goodluck directed by George Clooney I
think the most important aspect for present day communicators to carry into their
work is integrity. I think integrity is important because it is a value that shows your
character and personality. During the movie Murrow developed his character by
consistently being honest with others and himself. Edward Murrow shows integrity
quite often. For example, when McCathy starts making false accusations, Murrow
stands up in front of the camera and defends himself by stating facts to prove his

Critical Analysis On Critical Thinking
Critical Self Reflection Essay
Critical thinking has been defined as the ability to be a disciplined thinker by
using clear, rational, open minded, and informed by evidence. Critical thinking is a
skill that takes years of practice to master. In this essay I will reflect on my
personal stage of critical thinking and what strengths and weaknesses I currently
have. This personal reflection will include what challenges I will face to advance
my critical thinking skills and what requirements a critical thinker must have. I will
also go into detail what a fair minded thinker is and how this class can help to
prepare me for the real world and the challenges a fair minded thinker can face.
What does Critical Thinking mean to me?
When I think of critical thinking and how I would define it, the simplest definition
is having the ability to solve or argue and issue by using unbiased, evidenced backed
ideas. In any profession, a person must have the ability to solve problems and work
with others. Having a biased opinion and not including other s ideas and opinions into
your own thought forces you to not have an open mind and limits expanded
knowledge. In my career I have had to engage in multiple interviews. One of the
things I found interesting in all of them was the focus on individuals ability to use
critical thinking to solve complex, challenging issues. Many of the questions focused
on past experiences or situations where the individual used their critical thinking
skills to solve

The Impact Of Public Transport On Rural And
Sustainable...
4. Financial Analysis
4.1 Introduction
Today the role of public transport is perceived very seriously in terms of urban
mobility and sustainable development, but even though the financial resources
available are insufficient. Acquiring appropriate financing mechanisms is not only
imperative for the development of transport system but also for the holistic growth of
urban pockets.
The local government all over the world face financial constraints due to disparity
between costs and revenues. Many urban planners think that revenues cannot be
covered from fare box alone. Indian cities are also facing the same challenges. But
due to some funding through JnNURM the city officials find some relief in procuring
buses of high standards like present in developed countries.
There are two types of costs associated with transport system: one is capital cost and
other is operating cost. Capital cost constitutes of infrastructural support, procurement
of buses, and construction of bus stations. Whereas operating cost includes expenses
incurred in fuel, technological services, salaries to operators of buses, and upgrading
buses to better quality with time. Hence financial aspect takes a big role, because
without investment of money, a huge infrastructural project is not possible. Other
dilemma which urban planners face is setting correct fares in order to attract
maximum users and save the system to run into losses.
In this section of my case study, I focus upon the financial burden of
Aristotle s Ideas Of Potential Infinity
Aristotle supported the idea of potential infinity but refuted the idea of actual infinity
. He defined potential infinity by saying if you are counting natural numbers, logic
would tell us that we can always add one to the previous number and that can
potentially go on forever. He also said that we could potentially use this logic in
geometry if we imagined a line that extended beyond both points with no recognizable
end. On the contrary, actual infinityseems paradoxical because even if we had an
infinite number of things in a category then infinity would still be whole in a sense
with a beginning and an end. Aristotle s ideas were supported for many centuries (
Aristotle , n.d.).
The philosopher Zeno of Elea (495 435 B.C.E.) came up with the idea of infinite
divisibility . The basic concept of the theory was that you could take any object, cut it
in half, cut those halves in half, and so on until you reached the end of the divisibility
process and were left with only particles, or elements as he called them. The first
conclusion he drew from this theory was that the elements were essentially nothing,
which meant that the sum of all the pieces made the whole object nothing. The
second conclusion was that the elements were something but that they had no size,
which meant that the sum of the whole object also had no size. The last conclusion
was that the elements are something and they do have a size. But that would mean
that you would never reach the end of the

inspectors and that Iraq was lying about its assumed WMDs (Rice, 2002). Bush,
Rice and other members of the administration made clear that Iraq was dangerous
because of its WMDs and therefore Iraq should be invaded. It was also stated in the
Joint Resolution that authorised the war that Iraq had WMDs, seeked nuclear
weapons and was a threat to the USA (H.R.J. Res. 114, 2002).
However, if WMDs and noncooperation with UN inspectors made Iraq such a huge
threat, it has to be asked why Egypt and Israel, for example, were not attacked. For
example, Israel has not ratified the Nonproliferation Treaty or the 1972 biological and
toxic weapons convention and Egypt has not signed the Chemical Weapons
Convention (Hubbel, 1998). Moreover, in general, it is not only Saddam Hussein
who has murdered thousands and defied UN resolutions. The USA, however, is not
seriously planning to attack those other states (Mearsheimer and Walt, 2003).
David Dunn argues that this is, when it comes to North Korea, because the
administration believes that North Korea is militarily strong enough to deter the
USA, but Iraq is not and Iraq has to be stopped before it is, too. (Dunn, 2003: 286)
Even if this was true for all the states in the
Reflection For Classroom Learning
To learn this week s material, answer the discussion post, program the programming
assignment, and get a good grade on the self quiz, I studied the learning material for
almost 6 hours a day. I find if fun to sit down with the learning material, which was
chapters one and two, and take notes during all my free time.
My reactions to the learning material chapters one and two are so much information,
that I didn t have enough time to read the optional learning material, or watch the
optional video lectures. Chapters one and two are more than 100 pages of reading
material; however, I did have time to read the NetBeans tutorials.
I m still waiting for feedback to my discussion posts. I may have gotten my
discussion post done early. There were only 3 or four other discussion posts posted
previous to me entering in my discussion response in the discussion forum.
However, I gave these three other students responses posts to their discussion posts,
where I gave good grades for using learning material vocabulary and learning material
insight to what the definitions of four operators are( ++ , != , , and %= ).
I m a little dis heartened right now. The reason for my discouragement is my
computer may have a glitch. Certain mathematical operations are fouled up by some
malicious code, and when I multiply variables by 10 (in Netbeans and other IDEs), I
get erroneous decimal places added onto my figures.
This week, I learned how to setup NetBeans, how to discern basic fundemental
programming blocks of java, how to setup java variables, how to control the flow of
execution with branches and loops, how to test for conditions with operators, how to
build classes, how to use installed classes like String and Math, how to use installed
subroutines with string and Math, what the size of primitive data types are(short, int,
long, float, double, char, and ), how to use enums, etc. ...almost too much to list in
one paragraph, here.
What causes me to wonder is the built in methods of the String function, the built in
methods of the Math library, and string formatting options. I want to make a website
out of these built in classes and their subroutines. If I mastered these classes and
subroutines, I would be a better
Automation And The Assembly Line Essay
Automation has taken many forms in the past century with new technologies being
introduced and great innovations being made. Automation was first established in
1913 with the assembly line: The introduction of the assembly line at Ford Motor
Company in 1913 is often cited as one of the first forms of automation (Dias, 2014).
While this type of automation is very different from what we experience today, it is
a great example of just how time saving it can be to add automation to a production
process. The introduction of the assembly lineresulted in Ford cutting the time it
takes to produce a car from 12 hours down to only 1.5 hours. Automation has come a
long way since then and takes a very different form today. Automation now refers to
machinery that has sensing and control devices that enable it to operate automatically
(Stevenson, 2015, p. 245). It takes many forms and often surrounds us in our
everyday lives in things that we have come to take for granted, such as ATMs,
automatic faucets, and Redbox dvd rental machines. Just as it did with the Ford
Motor Companyover a century ago, the use of automation has helped companies make
great strides in increasing efficiency and reducing the time that is needed to produce
goods. There are many advantages to using automation over human labor. Automation
removes the mistakes in production caused by human error, and therefore eliminates
the waste and costs associated with these mistakes. One huge advantage automation

Land Reforms Of Pakist A Important Source Of Political

Land Reforms in Pakistan
Land has always been a decisive element in deciding the social class structure in
agrarian and rural societies. It is a status symbol, source of income, means of
production and an important source of political and social influence. The agrarian
structure inherited by Pakistan, after independence, was socially divisive and due to
this very same reason it has been a matter of concern for policy makers since
independence. Many agricultural reforms have been carried out in Pakistan since
independence to eradicate this social division, improve the condition of tenants,
abolish feudalism and to increase productivity but no major improvement has been
seen as a result of these land reforms. This essay discusses about these land reform in
detail and lays out the major attributes and agendas of these land reforms. It also
debates about the major reasons which hindered the fair implementation of these land
reforms.
There have been six land reforms which will be discussed in detail. The reforms
which will be discussed are:
1.The Land Reforms in Reverse
2.The Provincial Tenancy Act (1950s)
3.East Pakistan Acquisition and Tenancy Act, 1950 (Earlier Known as East Bengal
State Acquisition and Tenancy Act, 1950)
4.The Land Reforms of 1959 (Report of the Land Reform Commission for West
Pakistan, 1959)
5.Land Reforms Regulation, 1972
6.Land Reforms Act of 1977

Working Capital Management Case Study
highly statistically significant. Soenen (1993) examined the relationship between the
net trade cycle as a measure of working capital and return on investment in the US
enterprises.
The results of chi square check showed a negative relationship among the length of
net trade cycle and return on assets. In addition, this opposite relationship was found
to be different across industries. A significance relationship for approximately half of
industries studied showed that results might differ from industry to industry.
Another fact of working capital management was examined by Lamberson (1995)
who examined how small enterprises react to fluctuations in economic activities by
moving their working capital requirements and the level of current assets and
liabilities. Current assay to current liabilities ratio, current assets to total assets ratio,
and inventory to total assets ratio were used as a measure of working capital,
however, the index of the annual average coincident economic meter was used as a
measure of economic activity.
Opposing to expectations, the study found that there is a very slight relationship
between fluctuations in economic circumstances and changes in working capital. To
conenterprise the results of Soenen (1993) on large sample and with longer time
period, Joseet al. (1996) tested the relationship among aggressive working capital
management and profitability of the US enterprises, using the Cash Conversion
Cycle (CCC) as a measure of working capital
Deep Freeze Spray Research Paper
Deep Freeze pain relief spray is a product that claims to relieve sprains, strains, minor
sport injuries, muscle and joint pain. This product acts like an ice pack, but delivers
faster and cooling pain relief without burning the skin with cold ice. Deep Freeze
products contain effective ingredients that are absorbed in the skin quick and
painless. Some ingredients that this product contains is Pentane, butane 75,
denatured ethanol, and most importantly menthol. When applying the spray, it affects
two body systems that include the Circulatory System, and the Musculoskeletal
System. Deep Freeze spray affects like Circulatory system because when coming in

When using heat spray, the heat will simulate circulation of the blood flow and
attack painful tissue by soothing the joints. The warmer the area, the better it is
because oxygen and nutrients can reduce the pain and relax muscle spasms. This
method is used 48 72 hours after injury. Some injuries that can be dealt with heat
spray include pulled hamstrings, hypo extended shoulder and etc. In order for the
proper blood flow, the person must be able to have good circulation of blood.. Lastly
another system that Deep Freeze affects is the Musculoskeletal System.
Musculoskeletal system works with muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints,
and other connective tissues. When being active in a sport or just going for a
normal run, it uses the ligaments and joints in order for it to make the complete
movement of a run. As mention in the previous sentences using heat spray brings
oxygen to the pain causing the muscles to relax and become stretchy. A way to
understand this is think of a jar of sauce, when the cap is hard to open, run it under
hot water. When the heat from the water hits the jar, it will make the cap twist

Socially Constructed Reality and Meaning in Notes from Underground
Just as the hands in M.C. Escher s Drawing Hands both create and are created by
each other, the identity of man and society are mutually interdependent. According
to the model described in The Sacred Canopy, Peter Berger believes that man
externalizes or creates a social reality that is in turn objectified, or accepted by him
as real. This sociological model creates a useful framework for understanding the
narrator s rejection of ultimate reality or truth in Fyodor Dostoevsky s Notes from
Underground. The reality in which the narrator tries to live in part II, and the reality
that he rejects in part I, are both created and, as such, are ultimately meaningless. ...

Just as the hands of Escher s illustration define each other, man and society are in a
constant process of mutual recreation.
Successful internalization is exemplified by the underground man of part II. In this
section, the narrator s actions are dominated by a desire to fulfill his socially defined
roles. Often calling his actions bookish, the underground man tries to act out
traditional cultural relationships. In his relationship with Liza the narrator sees an
opportunity to fulfill the role of the hero, uplifting the poor, wretched prostitute. He
asks her about her home life and warns her about the sickness she could catch from
her occupation, all in an attempt to play the hero and save this dejected prostitute.
The manufactured hero reflects,
I began to feel what I was saying and grew excited. I d been longing to expound
these cherished little ideas that I d been nurturing in my corner. Something had
caught fire in me, some kind of goal had manifested itself before me. (Dostoevsky
65). These
cherished little ideas are the cultural norms that the underground man is trying to
fulfill. The narrator s interactions with other characters in part II reflect a desire on
his part to live out archetypical roles. When he feels insulted by the officer, the
narrator clings to the romantic notion of vindicating himself through a duel. After
detailing his plan to confront the officer

Essay On Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde

  • 1. Essay On Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Crafting an essay on the theme of "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" poses a unique set of challenges, given the complex nature of the characters and the profound philosophical questions embedded in Robert Louis Stevenson's work. To begin with, delving into the duality of human nature as portrayed in the novella requires a deep understanding of the psychological intricacies presented by Dr. Jekyll's experimentations. The task becomes more intricate as one attempts to analyze the transformation of Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde, exploring the underlying motives, psychological struggles, and the moral implications of this split personality. Furthermore, the essay demands a comprehensive exploration of the Victorian society's impact on the narrative, considering the strict societal norms and expectations prevalent during that era. Unraveling the symbolism and allegorical elements in the text adds another layer of complexity, as Stevenson skillfully weaves a tapestry of meanings that reflect the human condition. Moreover, the challenge lies in connecting these literary elements cohesively while presenting a unique and insightful interpretation. Striking a balance between textual analysis, critical perspectives, and personal insights is essential to produce a well-rounded essay that engages the reader intellectually. In conclusion, navigating the intricate web of psychological, societal, and literary elements in an essay on "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" demands a careful and nuanced approach. The complexity of the characters and themes requires an in-depth exploration to unravel the layers of meaning embedded in Stevenson's masterpiece. • 2. Child Adolescent Population And Developmentally Impaired... Introduction This paper will attempt to compare two systematic review articles on the topic of restraints and seclusion (S R) and its implications within the child adolescent population and developmentally impaired persons. The articles should present evidence to address claims on reduction while the results of the studies provide evidence on rationales to these practices. Aggressive behaviors by both of these populations in inpatient psychiatric facilities at some point become a safety issue in terms of assault and injury for both. Both reviews focus on incidences of seclusion and restraints and ways to reduce usage. The articles aim to answer what the current state of evidence is supporting restraints and reduction methods. Nonetheless, interventions are needed to reduce restriction and restraint utilization in children and persons with developmental disabilities (Menon, Raghavendra, Bernard 2010) Phenomenon of Interest The article Initiatives to reduce the use of seclusion and restraints on people with developmental disabilities: A systematic review and quantitative synthesis, analyzes the use of R S within the developmental disabled. According to Gaskin, Mcvilly McGillivray (2013) there is insufficient evidence that explores these practices among this population. There is also not enough evidence for aggression management measures and training in de escalation procedures. The review assesses studies that introduce interventions and the effects of R S

Violence was very prevalent in Ancient Rome and has since deceased because of the emergence of modern sport (Jovašević Batrićević, 2013). Violence in sport today is not just committed by the athletes, but by coaches and spectators (Corbett et al., 2008). Although violencehas been involved in sport for quite some time, the question still remains is violence ethical? McSorley case, McSorley was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, his hockey stick. McSorley struck Donald Brashear in the back of the head with his stick in the last seconds of the game (Lawless, 2016). McSorley claimed not to have intended to hit Brashear in the head, but simply the shoulder (R. v. McSorley, 2000). This makes the intention in this case a real issue. McSorley used the defence of recklessness (R. v. McSorley, 2000). Recklessness is where a person knew, or ought to have known, that the conduct would likely cause serious injury to another (Corbett et al., 2008, Pg.45). McSorley claimed to not have intended the outcome or striking the head, but he did the action knowing the outcome could be an injury (R. v. McSorley, 2000). Marc Crawford the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks stated there was no chance for Donald to expect that it was coming...it was significant force. (R.v. McSorley, 2000, Pg.8). It is very clear that Donald did not consent to the force of the overtly violent act. There are defences that can be used when charged with criminal assault and they are: lack of intent to inflict harm, defence from an attack, and an instinctive reaction (Corbett et al., 2008, 41). Not included in the list of defences is provocation because it cannot be used as a credible defence to assault (Corbett et al., 2008). McSorley and his defence of recklessness were stricken down based on the fact that even a small child would not have missed hitting another person in the shoulder instead of the head if that was their true intention (Lawless, 2016). Eventually McSorley was found guilty of assault with a weapon and was given probation, a suspension from the NHL and never played again (Lawless,

These Dallas area coffeehouses were all chosen on the basis of style and atmosphere and all around good service; not to mention their great coffee offerings. All three of these coffeehouses offer a delightful selection of beverages. Two of them are more conventional coffeehousechoices, while the third offers Asian bubble tea lattes and coffeedrinks. These are my absolute favorite coffeehouses. The next time you re in Dallas, I highly recommend giving them all a try. First, we have Uncle Calvin s Coffeehouse. Uncle Calvin s has been providing great coffee and good music for more than 20 years. However, that does not mean the documentary is particularly useful. In fact, the documentary while mostly accurate still has some small discrepancies and does not provide enough detail for it to be helpful to those actually studying pirates. The documentary is a fun resource for those who want basic facts, but leaves some facts to assumptions and seems to gloss over some information. It tends to focuses on myths and interesting stories that may have been true rather than the truth. Pirates, Galleons and Treasure also shows pirate stories being romanticised when they speak about the relationship of Anne Bonny and Calico Jack. Within the documentary, Anne Bonny and Calico Jack are shown to be lovers and while that may be true it is still not confirmed. The documentary presents this idea as a fact and even goes on to talk about Bonny being the mother of his child, leaving out the fact that it is also speculated that Bonny had slept with her jailors so it is not confirmed that it is his child (Konstam, 2011, p.166). Bonny s father is said to have had a possible role in her escape (Konstam, 2011, p.185), instead of the claim that no one knows at all where she could have gone in the documentary. Also in the video, Calico Jack is said to be responsible for designing the skull and cross bone flag (Pirates, Galleons and Treasure, 2007), when the flag had been first been spotted in 1700 by a pirate named Wyn way before Calico Jack (The Golden Age, 2016) and the only pirate to be known to fly a true skull and cross bone flag is Edward England (Konstam, 2011, p.193). • 6. Symbolism In My Brother Sam Is Dead It s a funny thing. You d think that if there was a war going on in your own country, it would make your life different. (Collier 38) Tim, the protagonist, is trying to live an ordinary life during time of the Revolutionary War as he works on his family s tavern. However, his brother Sam wants to join the Rebel Army and wants to defeat the British, otherwise known as the Loyalists who Sam and Tim s father support as they support the king. In My Brother Sam Is Deadthe author s James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collieruse the Brown Bess to symbolize power and authority. Throughout the story, the brothers use father getting hurt because the soldiers think that father has the gun to link to show power. For example in the text it states, The officer looked at father, considering. Finally he said, I don t believe you. He raised the sword. I gasped and the officer whipped the flat side of the blade across Father s face. (Collier 51) Here, father getting sliced shows that father was trying to be honest and saying that he doesn t have the gun because he knows that Sam has it and took it. Also, I m telling you the truth my son ran off to your army and took my gun. We have no weapons here but butcher knives. ( Collier 51) This textual evidence shows that the officer wanted the gun and thought that father was lying about that he didn t have the gun but the author thought he had the gun. Since the police thought father was lying so he took the knife and sliced father.

Hypertension (HTN) is a major public health issue affecting 70 million African American males in the United States (CDC,2015) and predisposing them to cardiovascular diseases (Scranton, Goldstein, Stecher, 2013). The WHO (2013) defines HTN as a systolic blood pressure of equal or greater than 140 mm/Hg or a diastolic blood pressure of equal or greater than 90 mm/ Hg. In addition, a large portion of patient s diagnosed with HTN also have a diagnosisof erectile dysfunction (ED), both of which when left untreated can have a negative impact on quality of life. ED has been defined by Adebusoye et al., (2012), the lack of sufficient sexual intercourse due to inability of a penile erection in male. Compounding the high incidence of HTN and ED among African American males, is the problem of non adherence to prescribed anti hypertensive medications. Real or perceived ED associated with the adverse side effects of anti hypertensive medications is a chief reason for non adherence to anti hypertensive medications among males (Kakkavas et al., 2013). This research study will use The Health Belief Model to investigate the correlation between African American males with dual diagnoses of HTN and ED who are non adherent to anti hypertensive medications. More specifically, this study will scrutinize the adverse side effects of anti hypertensive medications in relation to complications of untreated HTN, one of which is ED. The results of this study could be used to educate

There are a myriad of different opinions possible but if you were a member of the Communist party, you would think you would be expected to commit to and follow communist beliefs. In the article Paper Communists Gayle Lonergan, from the University of Oxford, paints a picture of men who saw the communist party as a way out. Leading to (for a short period of time) an incredibly large influx of peasants. Lonergan spends the majority of the article walking on a tightrope, saying that it was embarrassing for the Bolsheviks to have their ranks filled with all of these inexperienced men looking to get out of work while at the same time documenting the irony of the truth that the Bolsheviks based in Central Russia did not have the manpower to convince the masses outside of Moscow and Petrograd. They would not have been able to reach the further points of Russia and Siberia because people were not necessarily interested in the Communist beliefs there but they were interested at the opportunity of sitting in an office all day rather than manual labour on a farm. It is clear that even though the Paper Communists had a strong lacsidaisical attitude towards the movement they were a key part of the advancement of the Bolshevik movement. Lonergan disagrees with both some scholars that she references in the article as well as the traditional

My objective is to prove that Primo Levi s theories of memory being transitive and selective are correct. I will do this by examining and critiquing not only Levi s perspective on memory, but also those of other philosophers and psychoanalysts whose work explored the subject. Writer and chemist, survivor and witness, Primo Levi was born in Turin, Italy, in 1919. Like most Italian Jews of his generation, Levi was assimilated to the hilt: quot;Religion, quot; he later recalled, quot;did not count for much in my family. quot; In 1938, however, his religion of Judaism became a sudden and serious liability. The biography expresses many of theories on memory and exemplifies a memory in itself; as he bears witness to the past. Primo Levi explores memory in a much deeper fashion than society. The fact that Levi devoted his time to a subject society does not care to pay much attention to, is attractive to me. It is interesting the way Levi presents and supports his theories. For example, Levi argues that memory is selective. Levi then uses the example: A person who has been wounded tends to block out the memory so as not to renew the pain; the person who has inflicted the wound pushes the memory deep down, to be rid of it, to alleviate the feeling of guilt. (Pg. 24) Society encounters wounds everyday, whether mentally or physically. Do you think society is worrying about those wounds becoming memories at a later date? Levi does this because he has experienced what it feels like to have a terrible experience turn into a horrific memory, which is what makes Levi s writings

It was founded in 1987 when the company began selling soda water, ice cream, and stationary to children. The founder, Zong Qinghou, found that there are 38 companies in the nation producing nutritional drinks but none of them were targeted to children. The idea became an instant success and increased the revenue to RMB400 million by 1990. However, management soon realized this growth would be difficult to sustain and they would have to act fast in order to expand market share and increase the company growth. One advantage for Wahaha is that they had a solid cash position without any long term bank debt which isn t company for Chinese companies of their size. They also set specific goals to achieve like establishing subsidiaries in provinces which ended up being a very successful endeavor. Wahaha underwent many brand extensions which sparked a lot of debate about whether or not it would dilute the brand. Zong argued that extended the brand into categories that didn t have a dominant brand yet would benefit Wahaha overall. This ended up being a very successful idea. They also had a strong brand known for health, wholesomeness, happiness, quality and reliability, and just a brand for children s nutritious drinks . The company was able to growth further due to acquisitions. This helped the company expand to different regions and provinces while growing brand recognition and share of the markets. One of Wahaha strongest competitive strategies was their ability to lead the market by having strong management within the company. Competitors would follow close on their heels but none were able to surpass because of poor company management this included larger companies as well. Zong attributed the company s success to its superior understanding of the Chinese market: Market research reports in China are not reliable. You pay the market research firms large amounts of money and you don t know where the money was spent. However, our own marketing people are market research staff since we are always collecting information about the market, and we make decisions based on their understand of the market. The

George William Russell Homer defines a hero as one who acquires and maintains honor through victory in battle while embracing a highly individualistic attitude. Homer s epic warriors were self interested in order to preserve their honor and to acquire fame the currency used by the hero to achieve immortality. Following the structure of the Homeric hero, Beowulf s only concern is becoming king and dying gloriously in battle to get into Valhalla, a heaven reserved for the brave warriors who died fighting in combat. He is so blinded by his goals that he discounts the well being of his men. This is exemplified in the scene where Beowulf recounts his battle with Grendel to King Hrothgar. He fails to mention that one of his men played the role of the sacrificial lamb, while the others assisted in defeating the beast the whole process was a joint effort. However, for the 20 lines of his recount, he emphasizes how pleased he is with Grendel writhing from pain, beaten by his bare hands (Heaney line 957 977). He is insinuating that he alone is responsible for the creature s death. The only time the martyr is mentioned is when the chieftain gifting Beowulf s men reveals that one man s daring prevented the doom [of killing more of the men] (Heaney line 1056). This episode suggests that Beowulf is indifferent to the deaths of even those who are supposedly closest to him, as he remains emotionally undamaged while boasting about his defeat. His lack of sympathy disables him from creating a substantial bridge between him and his men. Siegfried, on the other hand, desires human interaction. Unlike Beowulf, he has an affinity for securing his relationships with others by developing strong loyalties

The Wasps Nest Poem The Wasp s Nest by James L Rosenberg serves to primarily describe the life and troubles of wasps, making references to how they build their nests and interact with the humans around them. However, in the final stanza Rosenberg draws parallels between the life of a wasp and humans. Through his use of harsh diction while at the same time maintaining a somewhat solemn tone, Rosenberg is able to express the poem s bigger idea having to build lasting love and relationships while trying to deal with the conflicts that life brings you. This poem has both a literal and a figurative storyline. The literal tells the story of wasps building their nests on the narrator s mailbox, and the idea that he could destroy all of their work and life s ambitions... These theirs , as well as repeated use of the word they throughout the entire home, puts emphasis on the fact that it is wasps as a whole that he is referring to on. Since he draws the parallel between humans and wasps, it can be concluded through this that he is also referring to humanity as whole, as if the struggles he is referring to are universal. The use of the metaphor two aerial tigers at the start gives the impression that the wasps are fierce and strong, similar to tigers and not mere insects. To emphasize the wasps persistent nature (similarly the persistent nature of humans), the poet uses onomatopoeia in line 3, And resonantly, savagely a hum . This expresses the continuous buzz of the wasps a hum referring the humming sound they make as they work. This is explored further in line 14 where he refers to their hummed devotions , their buzzing reminding him of the fact that nothing is stopping them from continuing to work. The struggles in life that the poet refers to are reflected through the oxymoron fragile citadels in the last stanza. The idea that something strong such as a citadel can be fragile shows how wasps and humans can build up a strong barrier that can be weakened with one

At the same time though, questions of how much Mailer s bias is affecting the novel are raised. Mailer is able to address these questions of possible bias by making it exceedingly obvious when his bias is at play. As Hellmann notes, Calling himself the Novelist and self consciously using the contrivances of novelistic form, Mailer makes us view the facts of his work as both reliable (in that we are fully shown their source in his firsthand observation) and doubtful (in that we are constantly reminded that they result merely from such observation) (39). The specifics of how the property was transferred to the current owners are relevant because in some cases the provisions of the transfer mandate certain types of management or constrain management in other ways. Public access for a variety of historic uses and other activities would be guaranteed on the entirety of the property. When the possibility of acquiring the Champion lands had first arisen, the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources requested that TNC lead a process to identify the most ecologically significant portions of those lands. When I think of critical thinking and how I would define it, the simplest definition is having the ability to solve or argue and issue by using unbiased, evidenced backed ideas. In any profession, a person must have the ability to solve problems and work with others. Financial Analysis 4.1 Introduction Today the role of public transport is perceived very seriously in terms of urban mobility and sustainable development, but even though the financial resources available are insufficient. Acquiring appropriate financing mechanisms is not only imperative for the development of transport system but also for the holistic growth of urban pockets. The local government all over the world face financial constraints due to disparity between costs and revenues. Many urban planners think that revenues cannot be covered from fare box alone. Indian cities are also facing the same challenges. But due to some funding through JnNURM the city officials find some relief in procuring buses of high standards like present in developed countries. There are two types of costs associated with transport system: one is capital cost and other is operating cost. Capital cost constitutes of infrastructural support, procurement of buses, and construction of bus stations. Whereas operating cost includes expenses incurred in fuel, technological services, salaries to operators of buses, and upgrading buses to better quality with time. Hence financial aspect takes a big role, because without investment of money, a huge infrastructural project is not possible. Other dilemma which urban planners face is setting correct fares in order to attract maximum users and save the system to run into losses. In this section of my case study, I focus upon the financial burden of

He defined potential infinity by saying if you are counting natural numbers, logic would tell us that we can always add one to the previous number and that can potentially go on forever. He also said that we could potentially use this logic in geometry if we imagined a line that extended beyond both points with no recognizable end. On the contrary, actual infinityseems paradoxical because even if we had an infinite number of things in a category then infinity would still be whole in a sense with a beginning and an end. Aristotle s ideas were supported for many centuries ( Aristotle , n.d.). The philosopher Zeno of Elea (495 435 B.C.E.) came up with the idea of infinite divisibility . The basic concept of the theory was that you could take any object, cut it in half, cut those halves in half, and so on until you reached the end of the divisibility process and were left with only particles, or elements as he called them. The first conclusion he drew from this theory was that the elements were essentially nothing, which meant that the sum of all the pieces made the whole object nothing. The second conclusion was that the elements were something but that they had no size, which meant that the sum of the whole object also had no size. The last conclusion was that the elements are something and they do have a size. But that would mean that you would never reach the end of the

Bush, Rice and other members of the administration made clear that Iraq was dangerous because of its WMDs and therefore Iraq should be invaded. It was also stated in the Joint Resolution that authorised the war that Iraq had WMDs, seeked nuclear weapons and was a threat to the USA (H.R.J. Res. 114, 2002). However, if WMDs and noncooperation with UN inspectors made Iraq such a huge threat, it has to be asked why Egypt and Israel, for example, were not attacked. For example, Israel has not ratified the Nonproliferation Treaty or the 1972 biological and toxic weapons convention and Egypt has not signed the Chemical Weapons Convention (Hubbel, 1998). Moreover, in general, it is not only Saddam Hussein who has murdered thousands and defied UN resolutions. Automation was first established in 1913 with the assembly line: The introduction of the assembly line at Ford Motor Company in 1913 is often cited as one of the first forms of automation (Dias, 2014). While this type of automation is very different from what we experience today, it is a great example of just how time saving it can be to add automation to a production process. The introduction of the assembly lineresulted in Ford cutting the time it takes to produce a car from 12 hours down to only 1.5 hours. Automation has come a long way since then and takes a very different form today. Automation now refers to machinery that has sensing and control devices that enable it to operate automatically (Stevenson, 2015, p. 245). It takes many forms and often surrounds us in our everyday lives in things that we have come to take for granted, such as ATMs, automatic faucets, and Redbox dvd rental machines. Just as it did with the Ford Motor Companyover a century ago, the use of automation has helped companies make great strides in increasing efficiency and reducing the time that is needed to produce goods. There are many advantages to using automation over human labor. In addition, this opposite relationship was found to be different across industries. A significance relationship for approximately half of industries studied showed that results might differ from industry to industry. Another fact of working capital management was examined by Lamberson (1995) who examined how small enterprises react to fluctuations in economic activities by moving their working capital requirements and the level of current assets and liabilities. • 46. Socially Constructed Reality and Meaning in Notes from... Socially Constructed Reality and Meaning in Notes from Underground Just as the hands in M.C. Escher s Drawing Hands both create and are created by each other, the identity of man and society are mutually interdependent. According to the model described in The Sacred Canopy, Peter Berger believes that man externalizes or creates a social reality that is in turn objectified, or accepted by him as real. This sociological model creates a useful framework for understanding the narrator s rejection of ultimate reality or truth in Fyodor Dostoevsky s Notes from Underground. The reality in which the narrator tries to live in part II, and the reality that he rejects in part I, are both created and, as such, are ultimately meaningless. ... The manufactured hero reflects, I began to feel what I was saying and grew excited. I d been longing to expound these cherished little ideas that I d been nurturing in my corner. Something had caught fire in me, some kind of goal had manifested itself before me. (Dostoevsky 65). These cherished little ideas are the cultural norms that the underground man is trying to fulfill.
