DON’T JUDGE
A short video showing what usually happens when you have to work
with other people..
CONCEPTS
1. STEREOTYPING
•Positive, negative, neutral
•Usually based on a specific group of people under a specific category
•Most common: gender, ethnicity, occupation.
In scene 1, Koji refused to work with Prem as Prem was an
international student. Koji thinks that Prem will not work well.
2. HALO EFFECT
•Cognitive bias
•An observer’s overall impression of a certain person, product, brand
based on the observer’s thoughts on the character/properties.
In scene 1, Koji asks Angela to be the fourth group mate, as he thinks
Angela is attractive and smart, therefore assuming she will work well.
Angela actually does not attend meetings and continuously slacks.
3. SOCIAL LOAFING
•Does not contribute as much effort while working in a group as
compared to working alone.
•Commonly, group mates are given individual tasks, but sometimes
they will assume that a task had been done by another group mate.
Lin Hui had worked with Angela previously, and through her
experience, Angela does not contribute to group work. Others worked
very hard and as an end result, everyone obtained the same grade
even though not everyone contributed the same amount.
4. POST DECISION DISSONANCE
•Rejecting an appealing choice in favour of the other, and then
devaluing the option not chosen.
•Purposely finding flaws in a certain option that you did not choose.
As Koji and Lin Hui spoke, Koji was unsatisfied with Lin Hui’s opinion of
Prem being a hard worker, and kept on defending his opinion that
Prem may be a good worker, but will be late for meetings.
5. COUNTERFACTUAL THINKING
•“Counter the facts”
•“What if” and “If only I had”
•The tendency to create possible alternatives to life events that have
already happened.
After all the hard work, the result of the assignment is a C+. Koji is
optimistic and claims that a pass is better than a fail.
