The SMX-Océan is a conventionally powered attack submarine design concept unveiled by DCNS Group in 2014. It is based on the nuclear-powered Barracuda-class submarine, retaining its basic layout, weapons, masts, and combat system. The SMX-Océan submarine will have a diesel-electric propulsion system and air independent propulsion for underwater endurance of up to 21 days. It is designed to carry out escort and patrol missions while equipped with 34 weapons systems, including torpedoes, mines, missiles, and vertical launchers.
