This document summarizes a presentation given at the 3rd Renewable Power Generation Conference discussing a nonlinear and non-stationary signal analysis for power quality monitoring in smart grids. The analysis uses wavelet transforms and Hilbert-Huang transforms to analyze power signals from lines with and without solar PV generation. It identifies modes in the power signals related to daily, weekly, and seasonal patterns and shows non-stationary behavior in lines with solar PV that could be linked to power quality issues. The analysis provides a framework for investigating the impact of distributed generation on power quality in smart grids.
