This document discusses different types of smart or advanced concrete, including self-sensing concrete invented by Professor Deborah Chung. Self-sensing concrete is produced using short carbon fibers and carbon nanotubes, which allow the concrete to detect and measure its own stress and strain without embedded sensors. 5. SELF SENSING CONCRETE PRODUCED BY
1.SHORT CARBON FIBRE

6.  It contain short carbon fibres, typically 5
mm in length
 Fibre content is 0.2 vol. % of cement
 Silica fume content is 15% by weight of
cement
 Methylcellulose content is 0.4% by weight of
cement

7.  Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are seamless
tubular structures.
 The diameters of CNTs are in the range of
1~20 nm
 The lengths are in the range of 0.2~5 μm.

9. 1. The mix was moulded into square shape
with 2 electrode, 1 cm apart.
2. The specimen were cured at standard
temperature of 20 degrees centigrade and
100 % humidity.
3. Specimens were dried at temperature of 50
degrees centigrade for 5 days.

11.  The piezoresitive property of carbon
nanotubes enables the composite to detect
the stress/stain inside the pavement.
 Experimental results demonstrated that the
CNT cement composite function as excellent
stress/strain sensors

15. TRANSPARENT CONCRETE:
 Transparent concrete can be seen as a
recent answer to the architects call for more
Transparent Architecture.
 The transparent concrete mainly focuses on
transparency and its main objectives are
self monitoring , environmental protection &
energy saving.

16. SELF HEALING CONCRETE:
 Self-healing concrete could solve the
problem of concrete structures, well before
the end of their service life.
 The first self-healing concrete products are
expected to hit the market in two years time
and are expected to increase the lifespan of
many civil engineering structures.

17. PERVIOUS CONCRETE:
 Pervious concrete can be defined as an
open graded or “no-fines” concrete that
allows rain water to percolate through to the
underlying sub-base
 The principal ingredients are quite similar to
conventional concrete: aggregate, Portland
cement, admixtures, fine aggregate
(optional), and water.

18. BACTERIAL CONCRETE:
 Bacterial induced Calcium Carbonate
(Calcite) precipitation can be used as an
alternative for concrete and synthetic
material.
 They are environment friendly, crack
remediation and hence improvement of
strength of building materials.

19.  Transparent concrete- floors, pavements
 Partitions wall and it can be used where the
sunlight does not reach properly.
 In furniture for the decorative and aesthetic
purpose.
