• Effective because:
• It is 2 simplistic sentences. Not lengthy.
• Mostly monosyllabic language meaning it’s memorable
and simple. (simplicity suits target age).
• It defines the aim of the brand. ‘Don’t bore us’ reflects the
brands aim of entertainment.
• It reflects the style of the brand ‘Chorus’ reflects the genre
of the magazine (music).
• It is catchy and memorable as it uses the rhyme ‘Bore us
and Chorus’
• It appeals emotionally – ‘Don’t bore us’ and ‘get to the
chorus’ are imperatives / commands which represents the
readers passion for music, and desire to read about it.
• Non-specific (can be used on any edition of the magazine
as it is vague and ambiguous).

• Effective because:
• It is 1 simplistic sentences. Not lengthy.
• Pun of juice (squeezing and juicy bits) make it comical so memorable.
• It defines the aim of the brand. ‘juicy bits’ refers to gossip, the brands
aim is to provide celebrity gossip to readers.
• It reflects the genre of the brand. ‘stars’ connotes pop as pop artists are
called ‘pop stars’.
• It is catchy and memorable as it uses the alliteration ‘squeezing stars’
• ‘squeezing’ is a present tense verb (as opposed to squeezed which is
past tense). Suggests that the magazine is up to date.
• Non-specific (can be used on any edition of the magazine as it is vague
and ambiguous).
 Words referring to genre (e.g. stars, chorus)
 Words referring to the purpose of reading (entertainment/
gossip)
 Use of a literary device to make the slogan memorable e.g.
rhyming or alliteration
 Simplistic language matching the needs of a young target
audience.

• It defines the aim of the brand. ‘juicy bits’ reflects the brands aim of providing
celebrity gossip.

• Non-specific (can be used on any edition of the magazine as it is vague and
ambiguous) ‘bits’ does not refer to any feature as it is ambiguous.

Not lengthy. • Mostly monosyllabic language meaning it’s memorable and simple. (simplicity suits target age). • It defines the aim of the brand. ‘Don’t bore us’ reflects the brands aim of entertainment. • It reflects the style of the brand ‘Chorus’ reflects the genre of the magazine (music). • It is catchy and memorable as it uses the rhyme ‘Bore us and Chorus’ • It appeals emotionally – ‘Don’t bore us’ and ‘get to the chorus’ are imperatives / commands which represents the readers passion for music, and desire to read about it. • Non-specific (can be used on any edition of the magazine as it is vague and ambiguous).
  • 3. Smash hits EXISTING POP MUSIC MAGAZINE SLOGANS “Squeezing stars’ juicy bits” • Effective because: • It is 1 simplistic sentences. Not lengthy. • Pun of juice (squeezing and juicy bits) make it comical so memorable. • It defines the aim of the brand. ‘juicy bits’ refers to gossip, the brands aim is to provide celebrity gossip to readers. • It reflects the genre of the brand. ‘stars’ connotes pop as pop artists are called ‘pop stars’. • It is catchy and memorable as it uses the alliteration ‘squeezing stars’ • ‘squeezing’ is a present tense verb (as opposed to squeezed which is past tense). Suggests that the magazine is up to date. • Non-specific (can be used on any edition of the magazine as it is vague and ambiguous).
