Megan Shaw proposes creating a music magazine focused on rock music genres such as metal and alternative rock. The magazine will target younger audiences between ages 15-25 of both genders. Key conventions that will be used include a large masthead, band/singer images, and alternative color schemes. Potential difficulties include the magazine not looking professional, failing to attract the target audience, boring articles, poor fit with the chosen genres, or underdeveloped articles.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Describe your idea for the brief: My idea is to make a music magazine based
on the Rock genre. I have decided to do this genre, as I often listen to rock
music, along with it’s sub-genres. I feel like I can incorporate my love for this
music genre, into my magazine. I will be able to relate to my target audience,
and understand what kind of things they will enjoy in my music magazine.
I would like the desgin of my magazine to look ‘cluttered/busy’ on the front
page, in particular. I will be looking at other magazines, especially ‘Kerrang’
as I like the style of it. I want there to be strong, darker colours.
Genre/ sub genre: list similar texts which have inspired your thoughts
My music magazine will focus on the sub-genres of Rock; metal and
alternative.
These are also my favourite sub-genres of Rock to listen to. This means I
know what to include in my magazine, to help the target audience relate to my
chosen music sub-genres.
Target audience: gender/ age/ characteristics/ behaviour
My magazine will be aimed at the younger generation; from the ages 15-25. I
think I will aim my magazine at both genders, so I definitely won’t be including
any sexist opinions, like some magazines do.
Major conventions I will use;
-Large masthead
-Images of the band/singer
-Stereotypical ‘alternative’ colour schemes
-Page numbers
-Different fonts/text colours/text sizes
Conventions I may subvert/ change/ not use;
-Competitions
-Giveaways
-Freebies
-Certain facial expressions e.g; ‘Chocolate box’
Original images: what/ where/ what
I will create my own front cover, contents page and double-page spread. I will
also use my own pictures. I will use my own models for the front cover etc.
Finally, I will be able to edit each image to make my models fit my chosen
music genre.
Potential difficulties/ Plan B:
-It may not look professional
-My target audience may not be attracted to my magazine
-The articles may be boring
-The magazine may not be fit my chosen music genres
-The articles could be too undetailed
-My chosen models may not fit my chosen music genre
