Possible props
1.
2. TELEPHONES
The tone of my magazine will be chatty and friendly. Phones have
connotations of gossip, chatting and the young (my target
audience) so would be a suitable prop. Mobile phones have
connotations of teenagers, but they would not stand out on
my cover as they are not very big, so I think a telephone
would be bolder on my cover.
Below is a picture of the pop band Little Mix posing with
telephones, which I will base one of my images on.
3. FRUIT
Many pop stars pose with fruit. Fruit is know as being juicy, and
a possible slogan for my magazine is ‘The hits and the juicy
bits’, so fruit would be suitable.
It is also quirky and fun, particularly if it is fake fruit. It has
connotations of health so would be particularly suitable for a
article on a pop stars diet or health.
Below are images of Katy Perry and 5 Seconds of Summer
posing with fruit.
4. MICROPHONES
Microphones have connotations of singers. Using a microphone
as a prop would clearly reinforce the fact that my magazine is
a music magazine, and the people features are pop artists.
They also have connotations of stardom and importance,
which is relevant as for much of my target audience, the
artists featured would be their idols.
Below is an image of Jessie J with a microphone.
5. SUNGLASSES
Sunglasses have connotations of summer, so are fun and happy and
suit the pop genre.
They also have connotations of young people, reflecting the age of the
artists who would appear on a pop music magazine and also the
age of the target audience.
They also have connotations of stardom and fame. This is suitable for a
pop music magazine as pop is an extremely popular music genre
and most of the artists are very well known celebrities.
Below is an image of Jessie J in sungalsses.
6. SHAPES
Using large shapes e.g. hearts as props would make my magazine look
almost like a comic. They would be bright and bold, and would add
an element of fun to my cover. They could relate to the story e.g.
hearts to love.
7. COMICAL PROPS
Comical props could be used in my magazine e.g. bunny ears, mustashes
and clown noses. These may be used to make the reader laugh, and
make the magazine more playful. This would be suitable for my
magazine as the target audience are children and young people who
would want their magazine to entertain them. They may also make my
images look like they were taken in a photo-booth, which have
connotations of fun, so would suit the lively pop genre.
Below are images of Ariana Grande in bunny ears,
One Direction in clown noses, and Katie Perry
with a comical moustache.
8. HATS
Hats are a suitable prop as they are fashionable. Most pop stars wear
clothes that are currently fashionable, and which can be brought in high
street stores, which allows the reader to relate to them. Hats may also
be worn comically (e.g. santa hat or a straw hat) to add an element of
fun to an image for the young target audience, whilst maintaining a
fashionable, modern feel to still reflect the pop genre.
Below are images of Katy Perry wearing a fashionable hat, and Beyoncé
wearing a straw hat.
9. HATS
My target audience said that their favourite shop was Newlook. Hats are a
suitable prop as newlook sells many of them, meaning they would
appeal to the fashion sense of my taregt audience. Due to the season,
Newlook’s hats are mostly wooly hats at the moment, but in summer
they have a variety of other hats such as sun hats, caps and straw hats.
