The document discusses sketches for teaser, theatrical, and quad posters for a horror film. For the teaser poster, the tagline is placed above the title to draw more attention to it. The theatrical poster features the title in a bold, horror-esque font at the top and actor names just below and aligned with character sketches in the center image. It also includes the release date and Netflix logo at the bottom. The quad poster places the main images on the left in a larger size to be the central focus, with title, tagline, actor names, and other text elements made smaller and placed to the right. Consistency is maintained across posters in element placement like the release details at the bottom.

Teaser poster sketch
Simple and out of the way tagline which because of the
size of the title could get lost meaning when it comes to
my mock ups I will make the tagline slightly bigger to draw
attention to it. The tagline is placed above my title to go
with my intended final design for my teaser poster and
because in a teaser poster the tagline isn’t the main thing
audiences look for so hiding it away and having it as a
surprise almost, gives the audience more to find which was
my intention as it will make my posters stand out from the
rest in the industry. The taglines font will not be like that as
it makes it too hidden so for my mock ups I will use the
same font for both my title and tagline to ensure they both
stand out but still not as much as one another to show
which one holds main importance.
Big bold title with a sharper and
more horror esc font showing
genre. I think how the title is laid
out and placed is perfect for this
poster as it will ensure that it is
the first thing audiences see
causing them to ‘read’ the poster
from top to bottom like I
intended.
Release date put next to the company logo in a
simple font, both at the bottom of the poster
ensuring, hopefully because of the size of the
title, it is one of the last things viewers discover. I
have put it in a simple font so it will look nice and
fitting next to the simple Netflix logo and doesn’t
look out of place, the font once again isn’t what I
intend for it so for the mock ups I will be using a
sharper font to link closer to the horror genre
and make it look more fitting.
Main image put in the centre of the poster to show importance and to
draw attention. The use of a simple picture like an arcade that looks
run down (boarded up windows will not be used in the final posters as
it feels a bit too on the nose and doesn’t create the right feel I
intended behind the picture) helps create a feel of mystery and fear as
the audience have no idea why it is there or why it looks the way it
does, this will result in the audience asking questions which will keep
the poster in their head because they may talk to other people about
it to try and answer these questions. The use of an arcade will also
help show time period based on the design of the arcade (for the
sketch I have included popular arcade characters from the 80s like
pacman to help show time period, these will not appear in the final
posters as I feel it takes attention away from the real intentions of the
arcade being there).
2. Theatrical poster sketch
Same as the Teaser sketch the title is in the
top centre of the poster in a big bold and
sharper font from everything else so it
stands out and hopefully causes the
audience to read the poster from top to
bottom. The sharper font also links to the
horror genre as it makes the letters look
sharper like weapon which is a very
common convention of the horror genre.
The further fact that the title will be in a red
and white colouring means that the bottom
of the letter will be red making them look
blood covered in a way. This is something I
will implement later into my mock ups.
The star names being just under the title and just
above ensures that if the poster is read from top to
bottom the audience can see who will be in the film
very quickly which could be a make or break for some
people depending on if they like the selected actors
or not. I have also put then somewhat in line with the
sketching of people in the main image part of the
poster to ensure that if there are any unfamiliar
names or faces then the audience can very simple
look under or above either the names or the pictures
and will find out who they are and what the actors
look like.
With the centre of the poster I have once again included
the arcade to show a link between the posters so the
audience knows they are part of the same campaign and
same as before it is something that will easily be able to
show the time period of the film and will show a part of
setting within the film. I have also added the characters into
this poster as the point of a theatrical poster is to be a good
reveal before a trailer, including the characters and the
actors who are playing them will give the audience new
information on what to expect in the film and will draw
them to the poster if they see something like a costume
style that reminds them of something they like or can relate
with, and if they are fans of the actors portraying the
characters.
Once again I have put the release date and company logo,
this time using the full length Netflix logo as the point of
the poster is to clearly reveal things, and if anyone didn’t
know what the red N on the Teaser poster was for this
makes it perfectly clear. I have placed both these things at
the bottom of the poster to once again have them be the
last bit of information the audience get meaning it is most
likely going to be the thing they remember most and can
pass on, and to fit with other posters in the industry as the
posters I have researched have put these in the same place
within the poster.
Billing block put at the lower section of the
poster to fit with other posters in the
industry and to keep it out of the way of
anything important.
Tagline put just underneath the centre of the poster to
make it more visible and less hidden, once again font
needs to be changed to look more sharp and bold like
the title.
3. Quad poster sketch
For the quad poster sketch I put the main
images on the left side of the poster so that
it is separate from the text so that more
attention can be drawn to it and it isn’t
overwhelmed with the text. I also made it
larger to appeal to the viewers so that it
was clearly the centre of attention.
Once again I have put the release date and company logo
under everything so that it matched what I have done on
the previous posters so that viewers that have see the
previous ones will know where to look for it.
I have kept the title in the same
font to show the link between
the posters more and to ensure
it still draws attention and links
to the genre, however I have
made it and other text smaller
and off to one side as I want
the images to be the main
attention in this poster.
I have put the tagline in between the
star names and the title as it is the
same so no new information or
feeling is being created so it doesn’t
need to be seen but still left it in to
fit with other posters in the industry.
I have put the star names down in a line
and somewhat separated so that it easy
for viewers to read and make out who the
cast is.
I have left the billing block in the same place to fit with
other posters in the industry and because it isn’t
anything important for the viewers to know and read so
doesn’t need to be put in an interesting and revealing
place.
