 Sir Aurobindo's view on
Indian Culture.
 Sir Aurobindo is one of the great philosopher in India.
 India wants forget the remarkable contribution of the
formation of India.
 The writers like Rabindranath Tagor, Sharat Chandra
Chattopadhyay, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Sir
Aurobindo etc. Bangal has given great leader like Subhash
Chandra Bose.
 Sir Aurobindo was an Indian scholar, poet, essayist, mystic,
philosopher and yogi.

2. Life Divine
3. Urvasie
4. Love and death
5. The Human Cycle
 An essay Renaissance in India published in 1918 with a
masterly view of India’s Culture through ages – her essential
spirit and her characteristics soul, her unique genius powers
which gave her remarble Long periods of greatness and an
unusually prolific creativity.
 India is one of the greatest of World’s civilization because of
it’s high spiritual aim and the effective manner.
 In which it has impressed this aim on the form of rhythms of
its life.
 “A spiritual aspiration was the Governing force of this
culture.”
 The whole root of difference between Indian and European culture
springs from the spiritual aim of Indian civilization.
 It is the turn which this aim impose on all the rich and luxuriant
variety on it’s forms and rhythms that gives to it’s unique character.
 In his first essays, Aurobindo argues that a culture is to be
valued to the extent that it encourages a natural harmony of
sprite, mind, body and a civilization must be judged by how it
expresses that harmony in its fundamental ideas and ways of
living.
 “Spirituality is the master key
of the Indian mind. The sense
of infinity native to it.”
 True spirituality rejects no new
light
 It means simply keep our
inborn nature and assimilate to
it all we receive.
The Western impact rewakened
“A free activity of the intellect”
”modern ideas into the old culture”
”desire for new creation”
According to him, true Renaissance is a revival of the Indian
spirit by the turning of the national mind to it’s past.
 In India, he said, “the students
generally have great capacities,
but the system of education
represses and destroys that
capacities”
 This is the unique fusion of ancient
spirituality and modernity.
 It is not blind imitation of West,
accept whatever best is in West
and assimilate it in Indian context.
 We must therefore save India all that she has stopped up of
knowledge, character and noble thought in her immemorial past.
 Recovery of old national spirit and ideas.
 Social and political liberty and equality.
 In his chapter on Indian art, by which Aurobindo means
architecture, sculpture, painting, music, dance and drama, he
answers the charge often made by Westerners that Indian art
is not “realistic”.
 Aurobindo points out that much of the inspiration behind
western art is out ward life and external nature, weareas
 The purpose of Indian art is to disclose through symbols
some aspet of the infinite divine self.
