2. About novel :
The Da Vinci Code is a mystery detective
novel written by Dan Brown. It follows
Cryptologist Sophie Neveu and Symbologist
Robert Langdon as they investigate a
murder in Museum and discover a battle
between the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei
over the possibility of Jesus having married
with Mary Magdalene.
3. Character of Sophie Neveu :
Granddaughter of Jacques Sauniere.
She is French National police Cryptographer.
She is one of the major players in decoding the code.
Embodies the Chinese idea of Yin and Yang as she coupled with
masculine toughness and feminine qualities
Can be considered as the feminine face of ‘Mona Lisa’.
4. Equality :
Sophie is the protagonist and the strong character. At the end we
came to know that not any other person but Sophie is one who
belongs to the Bloodline of Jesus Christ.
So here we can see that Den Brown challenges the idea of mail
dominantion that only a male can carry the bloodline.
5. Sophie as the “Second Sex” :
In the beginning of novel Sophie’s character seems to be very
strong, but as the novel moovs on whole control of plot goes into
hand of Robert Langdon. Sophie isn’t solve any problems without
talking Robert’s help. The role of sophi becomes secondary to the
male characters.
6. Other examples women :
“To The Lighthouse” character of Mrs. Ramsey : to show the ideal
women who follows patriarchy. Always follow male orders and
only do house work., don’t work outsid and earn money.
7. “Samson Agonisit” character Dalila : she cheated to Samson.
Philistine government sent her to cut Samson hair and break
his super powers. She work under the influence of patriarchy.
8. “Hamlet” character Ophilia : She hartly love with Hamlet but as
the revenge purpose of Hamlet that’s why he ignored her.
