Advertisements Essay
Advertisements Car safety is an issue that concerns people across the Nation.
Millions of Americans die each year due to fatal car accidents. The demand for safer
automobiles is ever increasing. The Saturn Corporation recognizes this demand and
has begun focusing its advertisements on America s need to feel safe. Saturn brings
together setting, color, and a main focus to create the image of a safe car company.
In one particular Saturn ad, a Saturn worker stands in a room surrounded by crash test
dummies. The dummies in the background are stacked in a cluttered way. The piles
of test dummies in the are meant to symbolize bodies. Saturn knows that the reader
won t see inanimate objects, but actual human beings, because ... Show more content

This is precisely what Saturn expects the reader will do. By seeing the test dummies,
people will assume that safety testing is important to Saturn.
The usage of color in the advertisement is very simple. The objects in the picture
are either shaded black, or have a light crГЁme color. In the center of the ad is the
worker with the child sized dummy. He has on dark clothing and everything around
him is shaded. This diverts the reader s attention to the light, crГЁme colored crash
test dummy in the worker s arms. The reader will see the test dummy as a child that
is being held in a protective way by the worker. When the reader sees the small test
dummy in the worker s arms, they will think Saturn must care for their safety.
The obvious focus in the ad is the small crash test dummy in the worker s arms. This
is obvious because of the way everything in the picture focuses on the small test
dummy. The entire picture is shaded to enhance the lightly colored dummy. The
small test dummy is meant to symbolize a child, and there is nothing more tragic
than the death of a child. Saturn uses the child to warn the reader. Children die in car
accidents everyday, therefore it is essential that cars be built to protect the consumers
and their families. The caring and sheltered way the worker is holding the child,
shows that Saturn has everyone in mind while doing safety tests on their cars.

Essay about Mentoring
Managing People Individual Assessment
Managing Mentoring
With the development of the more organic and less formal organisational structures
the role of mentors has shifted with these changes. Unlike previously where mentors
where seen as formal trainers who taught newcomers the processes and got them
acquainted with the cultures and the systems within the organisation. Which required
good interpersonal skills and a good knowledge of the activity or tasks the mentee
would have to undertake, and be able to effectively relay or demonstrate the tasks or
activities to the mentee. As opposed to more recently where a mentor would have to
be more of an emotional counselor and demonstrate more skills than were
traditionally required from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accompanied with the current shift towards more organic organisation structures and
more emphasis on the learning organisation, mentoring provides a more all round
experience to the mentees by getting them confident with their role with the
organisation. It also improves communication throughout the organisation by
allowing mentees to give feedback and learn in a not so formal fashion which helps
people feel more relaxed and develops the formal and informal culture of the
organisation.
From the organisations standpoint mentoring is a cost effective way of training and
developing new staff, and it helps retain existing staff by giving them more
responsibility. It is argued that with the underlying causes behind facilitated
mentoring lying in cost effectiveness, does this underlying tenet prevent a real
chemistry existing between the mentor and the mentee.
This is not necessarily the case in all organisations, the Metropolitan police force (a
non profit organisation) have recognised the need for mentoring and have
incorporated it both internally and externally to assist them in their day to day work.
The Metropolitan Police have started a mentoring scheme for young ethnic officers
by pairing them with a mentor from the same background, to help them get prepared
for the job and also to act as counselors and to deal with any reservations they may
have about joining the force. This type of mentoring scheme is based more around
relationship forming and

Visualization Of A Graph Essay
Recent advancements in data collection is producing big complex data in many
areas which can be modeled as graphs entities (vertices/nodes) and their relationships
(edges). They are increasingly being encountered in various fields of study. With this
burst in data creation and collection, effective analysis of medium to large graphs is
becoming increasingly popular in many fields such as social networkanalysis, biology,
education, etc. With this increasing demand in large graph analytics, visual analysis
of graphs has gained a lot of attention. Visualization has become an important tool in
graph analysis and plays a critical role in thorough understanding of graphs. A key
advantage of visualization is, representing large amounts... Show more content on

These graphs exhibit a power law degree distribution of the vertices.
begin{equation} P(x) ~ k^{ gamma}, 3 gamma 2 end{equation} This indicates
that a small portion of vertices in the graph have a very high degree and there are a
lot of vertices with lower degrees. Vertices with very high degree are key vertices
for the connectivity of the graph and these vertices are called as hub vertices.
Examples of hub vertices are a network router in a communication network, a
popular person in a social network with many connections, etc. Graph visualization
featuring relatively important node identification, revealing the structure of the
graph is useful for these type of graphs. Majority of the existing graph visualization
algorithms force based, etc. result in high computation times and generate a space
filling, cluttered visualization like a hairball. This visual clutter is due to
overlapping vertices which are a result of drawing all connected nodes close to each
other and too many edge crossings making the graph not readable. These layout
generation algorithms fail to either reveal its intrinsic structure or readily identify
relatively important vertices. Rendering large number of vertices in a small space
aggravates visualization clutter by increasing overlapping, thereby making it hard to
see/select the vertices. A lot of solutions have been proposed

How Digestive System Work Together
The digestive system helps the humans break down food and turn it into nutrients.
The digestive system is made up of a lot of different organs such as salivary glands,
pharynx, mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large
intestine, and pancreas. Salivary glands produce saliva, which keeps the mouth and
other parts of the digestive systemmoist. The pharynx role in the digestive system is
to connect the nose and mouth to the esophagus. The mouth is used for putting in
food and also eating the food. The esophagus has only one function and it is to carry
food, saliva, and liquid. The stomach receives the food from the esophagus and
secretes acid and enzymes that digest food. The liver regulates the composition of

Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford Essay
Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford
Hartford is the home to the highest percentage (27%) of Puerto Ricans in the country
(Cruz, 5). Nonetheless, Puerto Ricans still face myriad challenges with respect to the
integration and acceptance of their culture in Hartford. Although the PR community
is only two generations old, Puerto Ricans have managed to both organize and
mobilize in this relatively short time (Cruz, 2). Puerto Ricans have focused closely on
their ethnic identity because they viewed their incorporation into the political sphere
occurring only by means of asserting their difference (Cruz, 10). They have made
their mark on politics in Hartford through demographic growth, development of
leadership in the community, and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I relate each component with a historical event in Puerto Rican politics and also
consider how through this historic mobilization Puerto Ricans have gained
entitlement to more power, equality, representation, consciousness from other ethnic
groups, and to some degree, social change. I focus on the Puerto Ricans migration to
Connecticut, their development of ethnic awareness and power awareness, their
realization of common interests, their competing ethnic projects, and the brokered
representation they have endured as detailed in Jose Cruz s book, Identity and
Power: Puerto Rican Politics and the Challenge of Ethnicity. Finally, I examine an
important point that Cruz only touched upon briefly, which is the idea of cultural
citizenship in the Puerto Rican community. This added point helps us to fully
understand the role identity politics played in Puerto Ricans lives.
Puerto Ricans first entered the realm of identity politics with their migration to
Hartford, beginning in the 1950s. Their motivation was primarily economic; that is,
Hartford had an abundance of job opportunities in restaurants, stores, factories, and
farms in comparison to New York City and Puerto Rico (Cruz, 37). Puerto Ricans
were now working and living alongside many other citizens of different ethnicities
and were treated much like other

I believe management is smart and knows what locations/areas where Panera would
do well. But this will be something to keep an eye on. They also need to address
whether to expand their product line. Offering more products will attract customers
and help them to compete with their rivals.
Another issue management should address could be competition. Competition from
other eateries and cafГ©s will be something that could hurt Panera. Again, I believe
management is smart and knows what tactics work in this area, but competition is
still a factor that could hurt Panera and something to follow. They also need to
address whether to correct the company s deficiencies by acquiring a rival company
with the missing strengths.
The final issue would be location. 40% of Panera s bakery cafГ©s are located in the
Midwest. If a significant amount of these locations suffered serious damage for
whatever reason, it d hurt the company. Again, the strong balance sheet means the
company can handle some difficulties. But if anything major kept the cafГ©s shut or
the customers away, Panera wouldn t have much support from the stock market. They
could also address whether to expand into foreign markets. This would help Panera s
continual growth.

American, Little Miss Sunshine, By Jonathan Dayton And...
American Sunshine
The American Dream has been redefined through different eras of the United States.
At its most optimistic, the American Dream is about having the freedom and
opportunity to do and be whatever one chooses, the success stemming from one s
achievement of individuality. But the influences of capitalistic ideals in the United
States have shifted the common definition and instead of optimism the American
Dream is now defined in more cynical terms of upward mobility and wealth. UK
director Andrea Arnold s 2016 film American Honey about a young woman who joins
a roaming magazine crew critiques the American Dream through the lens of this
cynicism. Conversely, the 2006 comedy Little Miss Sunshine by Jonathan Dayton
and Valerie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than facing against the discomforts of the working class grind, they seem to
be complacent in their existence of freewheeling abandon (Madden 2016).
In addition to the importance that is placed on money and wealth, the central
theme of Arnold s film lies in the interactions more accurately transactions between
the crew and the people they meet. These kids are supposedly selling magazines,
but really they are selling themselves. That feels very American. So the
environment in the bus is like a potted version of the bigger picture (Class Notes).
As the film progresses the lines that define what Star will and won t do for money
become more blurred as she begins to lose herself to Arnold s American dream a
fantasy born out of hardship. The importance of wealth is equally reflected in
moments of Little Miss Sunshine. Plane tickets are unaffordable, so the entire
Hoover family is forced to drive to California for the daughter Olive s competition
because they cannot in good conscious leave behind any of their number, however
much they d like to separate (Klawans, p.42). When they make a stop at a restaurant
each of the family members must order something from the menu under four dollars,
another testament to the realism of their financial means. While wealth is not the
central point of Dayton and Faris film, the moments that are shaped by wealth
resonate with the primary ideology of success in Little Miss Sunshine. To be

Epic Poem Parody
In the world of literature and poetry, it s typically not hard to find something
written about a hero, or something heroic, like an epic. Epics are long poems,
typically told orally in ancient times, about the adventures of a hero or heroine and
their deeds. The Iliad should immediately come to the mind of any student
proficient in western literature. Nonetheless, the themes and archetypes of these
works known as epics are so well known, that they are even parodied, take
completely out of context, and pasted on the wall for laughs. One of the most
recognized parodies of this kind would be Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock.
The Rape of the Lock is a story about taking a minor incident and satirizing it by
making it into a huge and important epic of divine proportions. One might think of
the phrase a tempest in a teapot , which perfectly describes this poem. In the poem,
the main character, a girl named Belinda, has her hairunwillingly cut by a baron, and
the struggle to regain her lost hair even pulls in mythical creatures like sylphs to
describe this epic poem. Pope was actually asked to write something like this in order
to reconcile two Catholic families, as the hair cutting fiasco was based off a real
event that caused bad blood between the two aforementioned families. The man who
requested the poem, John Caryll, hoped that if the two families could laugh about the
whole thing, they would put the whole thing behind them and end their estrangement
(Rippy, n.p.).
Factors In The Colonization Of North America
Even though the French were key factors in the colonization of North America, they
are not normally mentioned in history books. However, their lack of prominence in
history books does not mean that they are entirely unimportant. The French were
extremely skilled hunters and trappers when they came to North America, and almost
all furs and skins from North America were insanely valuable. Also, the French
explorers were after everything every other explorer was after; the Northwest Passage
, and a shorter route to Asia/India. Another thing that many French settlers wanted
was religious freedom, after all, the Huguenots were Protestants in France, which
was a mainly Catholic country. These would all be very commonly stated things if
you were to ask a French settler, explorer, or Huguenot why they wanted to go to
North America. In fact, there are many reasons as to why this is what everyone
wanted, not just the French people. First and foremost, skins and furs from North
America were invaluable to people back in France. According to Discovering Our
Past: A History of the United States, French trading towns were so important that,
France built forts to protect their trade, (52) showing just how important it was that
they got the materials they wanted. To have furs in France was a sign of wealth (so
they could easily sell them, due to the demand), and they had to keep warm in the
colder parts of North America; that is why French traders were so keen on getting the
furs they

our comfort zones. That s why we occasionally need a little cosmic kick in the

They fall four to six times a year and turn things upside down. In our disoriented
state, we may act out of character or see turbulence in the world. Eclipses can also
help break patterns and shift dynamics. However, most astrologers suggest waiting a

Ambivalence Of Human Trafficking
In the 21st century, children are taught in school that slavery doesn t exist. As young
people, persons in the United States are led to assume that slavery was abolished
through the Emancipation Proclamation. Unfortunately, slavery is rampant today and
is exhibited in a variety of forms, including, but not limited to: domestic work, sexual
slavery, and labor. Human trafficking, by definition, is the recruitment,
transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by mean of the threat or

Three prominent areas of human trafficking victims, however, are women, the labor
force men and women alike, and the youth population. Women are often exploited
sexually or for domestic work, in addition to falling prey to the aforementioned
international matchmaking industry. Although women may enter this field
voluntarily, the article, Trafficking Internet Brides , by Jackie Jones, discusses
how women are coerced into becoming mail order brides via the internet. The UN
estimates that each year over 12 million people are trafficked worldwide ... 2
million girls between age 5 and 15 are brought into the sex industry ... 80% are
women and girls between the ages of 18 and 24 perfect for brides ... around 70% are

legality of online matchmaking sites, it is often the unfortunate truth that these
websites are still for the purchasing and selling women and children for profit. As
these matchmaking sites are legal on the surface, the government is therefore
facilitating the sale of these women and children, because it is under the guise of an

Character Foils In Vaclav And Lena
In the novel Vaclav and Lena, Haley Tanner employs the use of many character
foils. Characters are placed into similar roles and the behavior of one character
accentuates the traits of another, more major character. This is particularly
prominent among the women who act as Lena s guardians. Two of the most
important women in Lena s life are Radoslava and Rasia. Radoslava Dvorakovskaya
is an elderly womanwho Lena lives with when she is very young. Radoslava passes
away and Lena moves in with her aunt. In her new neighborhood, she meets a boy
named Vaclav and his mother, Rasia, who quickly becomes a guardian of Lena as
well. Radoslava is a foil for Rasia because while both serve as maternal figures for
Lena, Radoslava s failures as a caring guardian highlight Rasia s devotion and
kindness.
Radoslava s self centeredness calls attention to Rasia s attentiveness. Radoslava s
actions make it clear that she considers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radoslava is quick to yell at Lena, saying, Yelena! I am old and I am dying, and
you have ruined my last years of peace (169). Radoslava blames Lena for
everything and considers her to be a stain on her life. Radoslava does not fulfill
her role as a kind maternal figure in this case as she makes it very clear that she
does not want to be in this situation. On the other hand, Rasia and her son Vaclav
enjoys helping Lena and consider it a blessing rather than a burden. They are more
than willing to meet Lena and become acquainted with her, both of them knowing
that they were doing something nice (68). Rasia and Vaclav find pleasure in
knowing that they are doing a good deed. Unlike Radoslava, Rasia is
unconditionally caring. Radoslava only does things for her own good and the
moment things get difficult she immediately pushes the responsibility onto Lena.
The way Radoslava treats Lena serves as a harsh contrast to the way that Rasia
willingly takes on the burden of acting like a mother for
The Embargo Of Cuba
Throughout the history of the United States there have been many foreign policies
that have carried on. President Obama has recently attempted to lift the embargo and
open relations with Cuba. An embargo is a hindrance that hinders trading between
countries. Not everyone agrees with President Obama s attempt at trying to get rid of
hindrances in trading between the
United States and Cuba, while other presidential candidates such as Hillary Clinton
and Donald

Cuba causes another international crisis, whereas these type of miscommunications

Essay about The Push out of Texas
The Push out of Texas
A rich part of American history takes place in Texas around the early to middle part
of the nineteenth century. During this time period, Texas became a region of
American settlement. The price to pay for that settlement, however, ranged on a
variety of levels for the different cultures and races of people living there. During this
time period, three different groups of people lived in this region. These groups
included the Cherokee Indians, Mexicans, and European settlers. Before times of
conflict, these three ethnic groups coexisted on the land in peace. However, the
Mexican American War of 1836 changed the region of Texas
. After the war, the
American settlers pushed for the removal of the Mexicans and ... Show more content

This still did not stop the harassment that the Mexican Americans endured in their
communities. These people still suffered from random acts of violence, deprivation,
and forced marches from the Anglo Americans. At this time, it was not uncommon
for Tejano families to be forced to abandon their homes and lands in the old
settlements of Nacogdaches, which is now presently east Texas. Mexican Americans
were often forced off their land, their only wealth, so prominent Americans could
purchase the land.
Mexican Americans lost their land through confiscation and fraud. Rancheros, or
small ranchers, had to deal with land displacement from Anglo cattle drivers. One
of the main professions in Texas was cattle driving. Many Mexican Americans
tried to pursue this profession, but failed for numerous reasons. Probably the most
obvious reason was the cost of cattle driving. As a result of the high costs, wealthy
Anglo Americans purchased the herds and did the cattle driving north themselves.
Another barrier to successful cattle drives for the Tejanos were language barriers.
Many Tejanos had language handicaps and as a result were more likely to
experience considerable amounts of prejudice from other cattle drivers. The result
of these prejudices resulted in Mexican American cattle drivers working for Anglo
ranchers and Anglo trail bosses. This is a great example of how the food chain of
Texas citizens was created and
Greek Influence On The Modern World
The Greek influence in the modern world is still significant today. In a matter of
words Hellenism brought us intelligence. The cultural significance of Hellenism in
this modern world brought us libraries, museums, art, architecture, language, warfare
tactics and weapons, philosophers and philosophies, and democratic societies.
Hellenism in the modern world means to adopt Greek culture even in non Greek
regions. Hellenism has brought to the modern world many different things that may
have been once impossible. Hellenism has brought literature comedies epic tales,
poetry, and tragedy. In modern terms this is converted into books, movies, theatre,
television, plays, and they have become a part of everyday life. Furthermore,
Hellenism has brought us philosophy, which in a way increased intelligence. With the

Summary
Groups were told to design a prototype which wold be able be used by a library as a
computer system. The aim of this report was to show the factors that led to the
group failing to carry out this tasks. The factors that caused this to happen were time
mismanagement, bad project planning and poor communication. Factors that lead to
a group failing a project was chosen as the topic of the report so problems that led to
the group failing could be identified and understood in a way that would prevent
group members from making the same mistakes in any future projects. These factors
can be avoided by using planning resources and steady communication through Email
services and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this was during the design specification stage of the project. The
group ended up getting very low scores because of the way the project was carried
out. The work was not evenly shared out between the group members and all group
members did not meet up regularly to see who had done which stage of the
project. One group member ended up doing most of the task including the story
design, the Entity relationship diagram, most of the use case descriptions and the
structured English because the other group members did not understand how to do
these part of the projects. This led to the group getting very low scores in all these
sections as the individual who carried out most of the tasks was not able to fully
focus on each section and develop them to an adequate level. This could have been
avoided if the group had planned the project well because the weaknesses of
individual members could have been discussed earlier and the person who
understood the work could have showed the other members of the group how to carry
out the various task they did not understand and this would have helped the group
avoid failing this stage of the project. Poor project management is also harmful to a
group chances of passing a project because it also leads to a lack of communication
as group members would not be able

Jane Eyre And Bertha s Mental Dispositions
Survival of the Luckiest: An Analysis of Jane s and Bertha s Mental Dispositions
Madness is a recurring theme in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Jane Eyre, and
Bertha Mason all have both experienced extreme mental distress and reacted in
their own unique but similar way. Many scholars have deeply analyzed the
symbolic and literal meanings of Bertha s insanity and associating it to the
oppressive force of the patriarchy. I argue that along with this, Bertha s insanity
serves the hidden purpose of bringing to light Jane s lack of independence and
effort that led to her success. The two characters have been placed under similar
circumstances. The most notable one is Jane being trapped in the Red Room and
Bertha being imprisoned in Thornfield attic for ten years after showing signs of
violent insanity. The difference is that Jane s violent outburst against her cousin John
Reed was explained from her perspective. She hardly mentions that she was winning
their fight in an attempt to play the victim. One can assume that Bertha may have had
similar angry feelings towards Rochester because she was somehow trapped in an
arranged marriage for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when faced with hardship, Jane is portrayed as having a somewhat
delicate psychological state. After being trapped in the dark Red Room for a few
minutes, she was startled by a light which gleamed on the wall. Her subsequent
response is overly hysterical and most probably self induced, after all she only saw
a light on the wall, but then begins to hear the rushing of wings and feel the
physical symptoms indicative of a panic attack. When Jane was locked in again she
had a species of fit (17). Jane does not seem like a resilient person at any point
throughout her journey. Her only show of strength was her shaky adherence to her
How To Read The Book Divergent By Veronica Roth
This summer I read the book called Divergent by Veronica Roth. The Reason Why
I chose this book is because my friend from last years English class recomended it
to me and it sounded like a book I could really enjoy reading. Divergent takes place
in a futuristic society where humans are split up into groups, factions based on their
personality. There is Amity (Kindness), Abnegation (Selfless), Erudite (Knowledge),
Candor (Honesty), and Dauntless (Courage). Tris who is the main character does
not fit in any of these categories, so she is labeled as a Divergent. Society is afraid of
them, so they hunt and kill them. As an effort to hide she choses to change factions
from Abnegation to Dauntless. She struggles with identity and finding herself
Vision Zero
Vision Zero policies have proved effective in the United States. Minnesota, Utah and
Washington State, traffic fatalities have fallen steadily since the introduction of
Vision Zero style programs in the early 2000 s; a 43% reduction in Minnesota, 48%
reduction in Utah and a 40% decrease in Washington. While trafficfatalities
nationwide are falling, largely due to improvements in emergency/trauma care and
vehicle enhancements such as airbags, fatality rates in Vision Zero states fell over
25% faster than the nation since 1997.
This report investigates existing city Vision Zero policies and programs in other
cities in the United States and abroad. This memo will examine the academic
research that evaluates these policies effectiveness saving lives, then identify ways in
which the city can work towards eliminating road fatalities and serious injuries. It is
recommended that the city make safety the explicit goal or the primary outcome of
the street transportation system. In order to do so, the city should adopt as its
guiding vision a commitment that no one should be killed or seriously injured on
Philadelphia streets. The city must also find new conduits of communication with the

Censorship In Huckleberry Finn
Freedom of expression is a right given to fuel people s imaginative minds that are
occupied with different thoughts and opinions. Censorship is only an obstacle,
preventing people from expressing their inner beliefs by replacing it with fake
ones. Censorship actively prohibits and suppresses people s opinions to speak up in
society freely and openly. It restricts the common adult or child of any gender from
being themselves and fighting for what they believe in. Censoring speech and
expression only establish greater problems than the one attempting to be resolved
that both prevent people from expressing themselves and cover the ears of those who
are willing to listen. One way people express their opinions is through literature....

In many settings such as schools or at home, some words categorize as swear or
curse words. The majority of people know that the words are not proper etiquette
or polite to use against another as it signifies anger or aggression. But still, who
are the ones labeling those words and what gives them the authority to do so? It
can just be that people commonly accept those words as swear or curse words.
Nevertheless, censoring those words from being spoken will never have any
success due to the lack of enforcement. Children are inevitably going to have
exposure towards those words since nobody is constantly monitoring their activity
wherever they go. A friend can just utter the word, the child asks what it means, and
the cycle continues. Imposing the ban of using those words is simply impossible.
Also, having those words classified as unethical just gives the more power and
increases the desire to use them. An author named Michael Adams, believes that, the
words would just be normal words (Kaplan), if people use it freely and give the
words less power. The human mind has an inner program of defiance, which is why
many teenagers go through a rebellious phase . That means telling them to not swear
will make them want to swear more because they do not like being told what to do.
School is a learning environment, so if swearing does not negatively impact a student

An Oedipal Relationship in Beneix s Diva Essay
The relationship between Jules and Cynthia Hawkins in Jean Jacques Beneix s Diva
is uniquely complex and vaguely oedipal. For Jules, the diva represents musical
perfection, and he is completely in love with her. However, her relationship to him is
somewhat maternal. Jules s obsession with Cynthia Hawkins is rather unhealthy, and
he violates her purity. However, her maternal attitude towards him allows for
reconciliation despite his mistakes.
From the very beginning of the movie, the voice of Cynthia Hawkins pervades
everything. In fact, the opening title sequence tricks the viewer into thinking her
voice is non diegetic sound, mere background music for the on screen occurrences.
However, when Jules turns off his tape deck, the ... Show more content on

Alba can instantly detect his infatuation with the diva from the way he longingly
stares at the lifelike portrait of Cynthia, with her stolen dress draped over it almost as
if the painting is wearing the gown. Jules brings the diva s dress to a black
prostitute, and has her wear the gown, trying to delude himself into the illusion
that he is with Cynthia Hawkins. Jules displays many of the characteristics of a
young lover. He brings flowers to Cynthia, and is content to hear the sound of her
voice or be connected to her in any way. When Jules and Cynthia meet for their
walk, he holds her umbrella over her head while they meander through the park.
Also typical of an adolescent lover afraid to make a first move, Jules moves closer
and closer to her, slowly and hesitantly putting his hand on her shoulder, draping his
arm around her.
Despite his obvious romantic desires for Cynthia Hawkins, there are also some
aspects of a maternal relationship. Jules cuddles her gown while listening to her
sing, seeking motherly comfort in the sound of her music. Cynthia is comforted by
her young fan. Although no one ever listens to her rehearse, she allows Jules to
stay and listen. It s strange, but I think I d like you to be there while I m working,
she tells him. Despite the way that Jules violates her in almost every way possible,
Cynthia forgives him; her reasons for this stem from the kind of unconditional love
that mothers have for their children. After all,
Essay about Autobiography at an Air-Station by Philip
Larkin
Autobiography at an Air Station by Philip Larkin
Progress is in the eye of the beholder. Throughout the years society has forced
nature out of its life and has instead adopted a new mechanical and industrialized
lifestyle. Technology may be deemed as progress by some, where it is thought of as
a positive advancement for mankind. Yet technology can also be a hindrance for
society, by imposing itself on society and emptying the meaning out of life. In
Autobiography at an Air Station, Philip Larkin conveys his distaste of how society
has denounced nature. By employing an ironic tone in the sonnet, Larkin comments
on the significance of the sonnet in relation to industrial life. Life has become ironic
because it is no longer a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But once again he rebels against the rules and society by breaking the ten syllable
count. Though the overall count of the syllables might be the same as a regular
sonnet, he varies the syllable count in individual sentences such as in line one,
where he has only nine syllables, and line six, where he has eleven syllables. He
shows that he is trying to break back into nature. He does not want to follow form,
and be a machine that just regurgitates information, without any real thought. Larkin
comments on what being an individual in society is worth, and how that worth is
lost, because no one thinks for himself or herself anymore. By only changing the
syllable count of individual sentences, and not the whole piece of writing, he is able
to show that certain people, like him, are able to break out society s structure.
Larking uses the extended metaphor by comparing the air station to life. Thus the
travelers in the air station become travelers of life. In the sonnet he says that in the
race for seats/You re best alone (line 7 8). These lines symbolize a person in the early
stages of his or her life. While a youth, a person feels the need for power, to get
ahead. This need derives form the desire to show that he or she exists and can
survive by surpassing everyone else around him or her. This quote also refers to the
political seats or the positions of power in companies, all of which are part of

Engineers need to know what problems they are addressing. They must have an idea
about the degree to which the solution should be carried out, along with what the
solution should do to solve the problem. The engineer must also work within
constraints, such as time and budget. A design brief is a tool that is used to
concisely identify the problem, solution expectations, and project constraints. The
engineer will often return to the design brief throughout a design process to assess
the progress and validity of his or her creative work.
Imagine that you are part of that design team. The project leader has given you the

Sun Tzu s philosophies and a core of traditional Chinese philosophical thought. Tao Te

in the Black community. Carter G. Woodson chose the month of February for
some important reasons. For instance, Black History Month marks the birthdays of
two men who influenced the black population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham
Lincoln according to Woodson. In addition, the Fifteenth Amendment was passed
on February 3, 1870, which granted blacks the right to vote. There were a lot of
significant reasons for allowing Black History Week to begin in February.
However, I seriously doubt if Woodson would have accepted the extension of this
week in the shortest month of the year. Woodson chose a week in February,
because it had symbolic significance. Black History Week began in 1926. However,
it is now 1999 and in seventy three years Black Americans allowed our contributions
to American society to be extended from Negro History Week to Black History

Men Were Not Always At The Head Of The Table Essay

Men Were not Always at the Head of the Table
Jane Austen, in her book Pride and Prejudice, ignores that fact that, at the time,
women
were inferior to the men and makes many of the female character dominate to the
male
characters which causes her novel to become of like a feminist novel. Some of the
female
characters include Elizabeth, Mrs. Bennet, Lady Catherine, Lydia, Jane, Miss Darcy,
Caroline,
and Miss Bingley just to name a few. The male characters on the other hand include
Mr. Darcy,
Mr. Bingley. Mr. Bennet, Mr. Wickham, and Mr. Collins. Although there are a couple
other male
characters, for example relatives of the Bennets, they show up in the novel for a short
period of
time and are rarely mentioned afterword. Just by the list of the characters alone the
reader can
already see the dominance of the female characters. But what makes Pride and
Prejudice a
feminist novel is not the overwhelming amount female characters, but how these
characters use
what limited power they had at the time to overrule the men in the novel.
The main character in this novel is a female Elizabeth Bennet. She is described and
shown as independent, caring, and someone who does not care about living up to
society s
expectations. Elizabeth is also described as very beautiful and she is Mrs. Bennet s
favorite
daughter because of her beauty. In the novel, Elizabeth received three marriage
Why Do Youth Sports Become Too Intense
What is the most successful and consistent youth sports organization? Pop Warner is
the largest, oldest, and most intense youth football, dance, and cheer organization in
the United States. A staggering 36 million kids join youth sport organizations
annually. Out of those millions and millions of athletes, females make up 52%; with
a strong chance of those young ladies may develop a dreadful disease known as,
osteoporosis. Parents are calling for the De organizing of youthsports. Even though,
you have some parents, that who will go out and spend literally hundreds and
thousands of their own hard own money for their organization. Eventually, the
constant growth of intensity will cause the children to seldomly lose the love of the
game. Are youth sports are becoming way too intense? Yes, youth sports
organizations are causing osteoporosis in female bones, causes children to apply there
all and get nothing in return, and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My research proves that these youth sports organizations are so becoming a bit too
intense. Children should not be allowed to participate in the common youth sports
we know today, until the age of 13. Seeing that, I know myself and I know if that
was me, that child that was being held out of sports until I m a teenager, my heart
would be torn into pieces. Regular youth sports organizations consist of a few
teams, probably parents with no real coaching experience as the head coach, and
children not having any fun. The real joy of youth sports comes from playing
alongside with your friends, not from bias and critical parents. That s why the call for
the De organization of youth sport are on a raise, athletic activities should resemble
entertaining pick up games. Also, children would be provided a safe playing
environment, but would be allowed to manage their own games and, as a result,
begin to develop those personal skills organization, conflict resolution, leadership, and
The Great Depression And Its Effect On Society Today
Great Depression
The Great Depression was a tremendous downfall into the economy it also had a
long lasting effect on society today. The Great Depression happened because stock
markets crashed which sent millions of people into distress about their income on
how they re going to feed their families. The Great Depression was an economy
downfall meaning that people couldn t have jobs or they re losing jobs and people
had to find work in order to feed their families. We have learned to watch for warning
signs to prevent another depression.
The Great Depression Financial fall was a crisis what we learned from .For
example, The money supply fell, the economy slowed, bank and business failures
multiplied, and unemployment rose. Although a recovery began in June 1894, the
recovery was slow and uneven ( Darity, Jr.). Although the depression was very
depressing it also affected other countries such as Germany and Great Britain it

The unemployment status keeping going up and people start losing homes and
families because they left to go provide for them. We almost came out of the
depression but we fell right back into it. In 1933, at the worst point in the Great
Depression years, unemployment rates in the United States reached almost 25%, with
more than 11 million people looking for work (Darity). The Great Depression
unemployment rate left people out to dry and starve if they didn t have any
income or a job. Unemployment was a big thing during the Great Depression
because millions of people got laid off. In conclusion the Great Depression was
unique experienced so now we know if we get back into a depression we know how
to get out off one
My Reflection Of My Leadership As A Leader
There are many individual questions on this were scored lower than I would like,
but they are areas that I felt I excelled in on the other questions, It looks like I
scored higher in the Seek First to Understand and Synergize sections than in the
other areas, I feel this is because of constant thought of how ones actions can and
do affect others, Because of that I am sensitive to the feelings of others and seek to
not only understand them, but make sure they are not caused discomfort by me, I
feel this makes me a good leader because I can also lead others to being
accountable for their actions and natural consequences of those actions while
keeping their feelings and needs at hand, This is something that I have learned
over the years and am sure I still need to work on, As any leader I have strengths as
well as weaknesses, I feel one of my strengths is my willingness to listen to others,
I have always let other know that I am open to their suggestions, I make it clear
that another s idea might be a better way to do something, If the idea is good and
things can be changed then they should, I feel my willingness to not only listen, but
to hear what they say is why I feel this is one of my strengths, Typically people only
truly listen only 25 percent of time, The other 75 percent is spent without truly
listening to what a person is saying (McIntosh, 2008), Another of my strengths is that
I thrive in stressful situations, I can still get things done and do not buckle under
Ethical Issues In Legalizing Marijuana
An ethical approach to legalization of Marijuana
I will take a look at different ethical aspects of the legalization of marijuana, using
data provided and studies from the past, I will attempt to further convey my stance as
being pro legalization of marijuana. INTRODUCTION
The legalization of marijuana has been in dispute since the idea has come nito
conception. There are a myriad of stances, legalization strictly for medicinial
purposes, decriminialization of possession(treatment instead of incarceration), a
complete prohibition, and finally a stance of the legalization of marijuana for
industrial use.
If we are to look for the benefit of the greater good from a utilitarian standpoint the
verdict is increasingly PRO marijuana. But I will ... Show more content on

Very little fertilizers are required, since it s abundant leaves fall into the soil and
release the required nutrients and minerals, thereby creating better soil tilth. Cotton
and flax are known to consume 50% of all pesticides; hemp replaces cotton as a
raw material in the manufacturing of paper and cloth, and flax fiber or seed for
animal feed, animal bedding and paper. Although society may not be benefiting from
the money made by investors, who would like to see coal continue to be burned, they

Air Raids In The Book Thief
The air Raids were not ethical in the book thief. The air raids were constant and
came out randomly. Several days before Christmas, 1942, there s another air raid
(Zusak 442). These air raids have killed many people who might have not
supported the ideas the Nazis were fighting for. Theft is never right. The world
would be in chaos and panic if we all took what we wanted, like liesel did. For
liesel, stealing books excited her and gave the books more meaning. Although
something inside her told that this was a crime, her three books were the most
precious item she owned (Zusak 109). This shows how she loved books and even
if getting them by stealing was a crime she would still do it. Protecting a person is
never not right. At times it could be risky, but an innocent deserves being
protected. Hubermann held his hand out and presented a piece of bread, like
magic (Zusak 349). Hans did this because he thought it was the right thing to do,
which defines his character. Liesel growing up without her biological parents does
affect the way she perceives others. Liesel does not want to lose anyone else, like
she did her mother and father. Don t go, papa. Please. (Zusak 423). Hans is
someone that Liesel cannot let go and does not want to lose her parents again. Hans
is right to help out Jews, like Max because Max was in the position that he could be
saved. Max can survive by hiding with the Hubermanns. However, giving bread to
heavily guarded Jews was pointless because it
Gucci Lawsuit Against Gucci
Gucci America makes high end luxury footwear, handbags, sunglasses, wallets, and
belts. This apparel company hires a private investigator to purchase from Wang s
website that sell counterfeit Gucci goods. After the product is delivered and is
confirmed counterfeit, Gucci America filed a suit against Huoqing in a federal
district court. Thesis: A U.S company can take action legally towards an individual
from another country whose only contact to the United States is by a website.
Why Gucci Filed a Lawsuit against Wang Gucci has trademarked more than 21
registered trademark which consist of the word Gucci and other symbols. Defendant
Wang Huoqing who resides in China has register, establish, and at that time maintain
more than 24 counterfeit goods website such as, bag2do.com, bagdo.com,
ibagto.com, my4shop.com, and ebagdo.com. This websites offer counterfeit goods
with Gucci marks and name on a significantly lower quality compared to the genuine
counterparts.
Gucci as plaintiff accuse that Wang s website sells goods with the knowledge that
his product will be mistaken as a genuine goods designed, made, and approved by
plaintiff. Also, this may bring confusion and deception among general public. There
are some reason why Gucci is able to file a lawsuit towards Wang in the U.S Federal
Court. First, Wang s website is an interactive website with an intention and mission to
sell counterfeit products. The second reason was that website sells and ships their
product to the United
Hoop Documentary Analysis
First of all this is a great and interesting Basketball documentary, I really like it. The
type of rhythm of this documentary film is a fast paste. Meaning that is a
combination between multiple cut on form of the scenes and single shots in different
aspects. Also we can see long take as a single continuous shot of unusually long
duration. All these short and long take scene shot of the film, giving a feeling of
enjoyment, satisfaction and hope, referring to the kid with this big dream and for us
as the audience. In the film Hoop dreams it has graphic relationships between the
shots, for example there s emotional scenes where we can see moments of reflection
in the scene where is this kid talking about the dream and his future. When this
Students Hail End Of Banning Cell Phones In Schools
Across America students are starting to complete assignments all on their phones
instead of the traditional computer or paper. The question is, is it appropriate to
use cell phones in school, or not? Schools across America are split between
allowing cell phones in school or banning them. Co writer of the article Students
Hail End of Cellphone Ban states: Our challenge is to make sure students
understand that this is a privilege and not a God given right She said. They use it
properly or else ( Brody 2). In the past years, cell phones have become prevalent
among nearly every teenager, and they need them to do work. In this day and age it
seems almost necessary to have one. Cell phone use in a school setting has emerged

In the article Is Your Smartphone Hurting Your GPA? , author Nara Schoenberg
states: In 2011, researchers at California State University reported that students
who received a higher number of text messages during a video recorded lecture
scored worse on a quiz than those who received or sent few or no text messages
(Schoenberg 2). This argument is inappropriately biased because it didn t specify
or include information about using the cell phones for schoolwork. It only
displayed why they shouldn t be used in a no use zone. Schools that allow the use
of cell phones for work have different effects on students than rules that don t allow
the use of them at all. Had the study been carried out between two groups of
students, one that was allowed to use their phones for research and one group that
couldn t, the opposition may have a more grounded argument. However, one can
see that this opinion has a weak argument because of the lack of information
displayed. Overall, cellphones should be allowed in school for academic use
because teenagers use them daily. It would work to the advantage of both the
students and the teachers to incorporate cell phones with school work. Education will
only continue to evolve as the years go on, and it is essential that technology is
incorporated along with
Discipline In Home Life In Ian, Trina, And Juvenile Crimes
Discipline is defined as, the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of
behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience. Children s actions and behavior
are all based on how disciplined they are in their home life. Without discipline, I think
maturity is expected to not come as early in age as it would for someone who is
taught the differences between right and wrong during their childhood years. When
children are maturing, they need to have support and discipline from their guardians
to succeed and become good independent adults without getting into trouble with the
law. In chapter 8, Stevenson introduces us to Ian, Trina, and Antonio. All three of
these characters were sent to juvenile prisonfor various crimes they had committed.
Each of their stories had one thing in common, neglect.
Parents are primarily responsible for meeting their children s needs. However, there
are usually multiple and interacting contributors to parenting and to neglect (Howard
Dubowitz). In chapter 8, all of the characters faced traumatic home life
circumstances. They each faced abandonment at such a young age. They were
abused and neglected by their own parents. This set bad examples for each of these
kids at such a young age. This made all three of them run into problems with the
American Justice System because of individual juvenile crimes they each had made.
Ian, Trina, and Antonio were all three convicted of different crimes but in my
opinion, they all link back to one
Gender Roles In Southern Culture
Though not all societies use the binary system we do, each constructs genders and
gender roles (RWL 415). Some of those roles overlap in different cultures, and
others couldn t be further apart. Kincaid s culture frowned upon being viewed as a
slut, overlapping with mine. Mostly growing up in the South, being ladylike is as
much part of Southern culture as food. However, many of the social expectations
she was being lectured on were so unfamiliar to me that I had to Google them.
Though I can relate to Southern culture, I m originally from Florida, which isn t
normally seen as truly Southern. I moved to Alabama around the time in school when
Sittenfield also describes the beginnings of a distinction between boys and girls (LU

Sir Isaac Newton
I did sir Isaac Newton for my project. The reason that I did Sir Isaac Newton was

how to read and write. On the other hand her husband Isaac was so uneducated that
when he signed off his will he couldn t even write his own name! Instead he simply

In the first experiment he covered all the windows with shutters and pierced a hole
in one of them allowing a beam of light to go across the room. Then he placed the
prism to refract the light on the opposite wall. The colors formed an oblong shape
even though the hole in the wall was round. This showed that the light was
refracted. In his second experiment he did all the same things except now he put
another prism upside down in front of the other prism. This caused the light to be a
single circular strand of light again. In his last experiment he took the same
conditions as the first experiment, but this time he isolated one color by allowing
only that color through a cad with a hole in it. Then on the other side of the card
there was a second prism, when the light passed through the prism it turned out to be
the same color that it came in not white. Isaac was able to conduct this experiment
with each of the colors. This proved that it took all of the colors to make the white
The Mexican Peso Crisis Essay
The Mexican Peso Crisis
This paper argues that the Mexican peso crisis of December 20 should have been
expected and foreseeable. In the year preceding the crisis, there were several
indicators suggesting that the Mexican economy and peso were already under
extreme pressure. The economy bubble was ballooning to burst so much so that it
was simply a crisis waiting to happen.
Evidences Signaling the Crisis
1. Decreasing Current Account Deficit versus Increasing Capital Account Balance
Mexico was running an increasing current account deficit from US$7.5 billion in
1990 to US$23.4 billion in 1993. This indicates an excess of private investing over
private savings. However, the country was able to maintain an improving fiscal ...

To counter the impact of federal fund rate increase on peso, Mexican government
raised the domestic interest rate by selling more short term government bonds.
The interest rate for peso denominated cetes rose to 15.79% in April 1994 and
increased to 17.07% in July 1994. However, in the second half of 1994, the
Mexican government started to reduce the interest rate, contrary to the federal
fund rate. Also, more of dollar denominated tesobonos were issued aggressively
instead of peso denominated cetes. This was likely due to investors being more
willing to hold tesobonos as they will be covered against the risks of devaluation
and also lower interest rate for tesobonos than cetes. This was an indication that
there was a loss in confidence for peso (i.e. people expected that the peso will
devaluate to a point that even the differential in interest will not be able to cover and
so were unwilling to hold on to peso denominated bonds). 4. Declining Real GDP
Growth
The Mexico?s inflation rate was really not in control as promised by the Mexican
government. The Consumer Price Index was on the rise and real GDP growth has
declined from 4.5% in 1990 to 0.6% in 1993. This shows that Mexico will
experience more rapid inflation than United States in the coming year. This also
means that Mexico peso will lose more value than US dollar during the year ahead.
Hence, there will be an
Why Is Bruneon 1959 Constitution
The Brunei 1959 Constitution is written constitution introduced by Sultan Omar Ali
Saifuddien III (SOAS III), the 28th Sultan of Brunei. The constitution was introduced
and signed between Brunei and the British in order to replace the 1905/06
Supplementary agreement which was regarded as an affront to the locals. This
agreement gave Bruneiinternal self government and the residential system in Brunei
was abolished and was replaced by British High Commissioner also, with this
agreement the Sultan regains his power from the British Resident in governing the
country. With this agreement, the administration of Brunei in Sarawak was divorced
and Brunei achieved internal self government. The main reason why the agreement
was made was to prepare Brunei for its independence from British rule and to

The constitution which replaced the 1905/06 agreement with the British helps protect
the power of the Sultan and the Sultanate. The reason of why Sultan Omar Ali
Saifuddien III promulgate the 1959 Constitution was because of the fact that the
Sultan was worried about the future of the Sultanate as well as the power of the
Sultan. Before the constitution, a British resident was appointed to help the Sultan
on all matters except for those related to Islam and Malay customs. But the resident
acted like a ruler in Brunei and the sultan was left powerless. As a result, SOAS III
promulgate the constitution to safeguard the position of the monarch to make Brunei
a country rule by a Sultan. To prioritize the Malay race and to make Islam the official
religion of Brunei. In addition, the Sultan was aware that the constitution will help in
the future of Brunei, Brunei s sovereignty and also the people s
The Medical University Of South Carolina
The day before Thanksgiving, I went to go visit Medical University of South
Carolina Emergency Room. A place that I know all too well. The Medical University
of South Carolina Adult emergency Room is located on 96 Jonathan Lucas Street
located in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The Medical University of South
Carolina, better known as MUSC has been around 1824. It has been serving the town
of Charlestonand its citizen with amazing services and new techniques to treat
diseases. It has expanded from a small private college for the training of physicians
to a state university with a medical center and six colleges for the education of a
broad range of health professionals, biomedical scientists and other health related
personnel (Adams). MUSC is a teaching hospitalthat is always coming up with new
and innovative ways to treat their patients. But it is never at the expense of their
patient s lives. The medical college first opened their doors to serve the community
in December 20th, 1823 after it was charted by the South Carolina legislature. It
then became the tenth medical college in the states. The first class of thirty
students graduated in April of 1825. This medical has always been open. The only
time it was not open was during the years of the Civil War (1861 1865). Following
the Civil War, the college was reorganized and continued to operate, at one point with
as few as two students (Adams). From two students to the many they have now,
MUSC is still
What Is My Teddy Bear Essay
Being sentimental about the things that are given and sent to me from family,
reading and being educated are very important to me and gives a good description
of who I am. However, I am very distinctive, I love that about myself and it is very
astonishing to people. What makes me distinctive is the love I have for my family,
sentimental values for my letters and teddy bearsthat were written to me from my
grandma and great aunt who she unfortunately passes away; sometimes I need that
space to get away and think and read. The love I have for books is unbelievable, I
love a good book. All of these characteristics define who I am right now. A big part
of me and my happiness are my teddy bears. The teddy bears I have were given to
me, at some point in my past, from someone who truly meant a lot to me. One of
the teddy bears I have collected was given to me in 3rd grade from this boy I really
liked, he surprised me with chocolate, balloons, and a medium sized furry, pink
teddy. It was so adorable. Although he is not my boyfriend now, he meant something
to me then, he was my first crush and I will never forget it. I do not want to forget it

  • 2. Advertisements Essay Advertisements Car safety is an issue that concerns people across the Nation. Millions of Americans die each year due to fatal car accidents. The demand for safer automobiles is ever increasing. The Saturn Corporation recognizes this demand and has begun focusing its advertisements on America s need to feel safe. Saturn brings together setting, color, and a main focus to create the image of a safe car company. In one particular Saturn ad, a Saturn worker stands in a room surrounded by crash test dummies. The dummies in the background are stacked in a cluttered way. The piles of test dummies in the are meant to symbolize bodies. Saturn knows that the reader won t see inanimate objects, but actual human beings, because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is precisely what Saturn expects the reader will do. By seeing the test dummies, people will assume that safety testing is important to Saturn. The usage of color in the advertisement is very simple. The objects in the picture are either shaded black, or have a light crГЁme color. In the center of the ad is the worker with the child sized dummy. He has on dark clothing and everything around him is shaded. This diverts the reader s attention to the light, crГЁme colored crash test dummy in the worker s arms. The reader will see the test dummy as a child that is being held in a protective way by the worker. When the reader sees the small test dummy in the worker s arms, they will think Saturn must care for their safety. The obvious focus in the ad is the small crash test dummy in the worker s arms. This is obvious because of the way everything in the picture focuses on the small test dummy. The entire picture is shaded to enhance the lightly colored dummy. The small test dummy is meant to symbolize a child, and there is nothing more tragic than the death of a child. Saturn uses the child to warn the reader. Children die in car accidents everyday, therefore it is essential that cars be built to protect the consumers and their families. The caring and sheltered way the worker is holding the child, shows that Saturn has everyone in mind while doing safety tests on their cars. Safe
  • 3. Essay about Mentoring Managing People Individual Assessment Managing Mentoring With the development of the more organic and less formal organisational structures the role of mentors has shifted with these changes. Unlike previously where mentors where seen as formal trainers who taught newcomers the processes and got them acquainted with the cultures and the systems within the organisation. Which required good interpersonal skills and a good knowledge of the activity or tasks the mentee would have to undertake, and be able to effectively relay or demonstrate the tasks or activities to the mentee. As opposed to more recently where a mentor would have to be more of an emotional counselor and demonstrate more skills than were traditionally required from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accompanied with the current shift towards more organic organisation structures and more emphasis on the learning organisation, mentoring provides a more all round experience to the mentees by getting them confident with their role with the organisation. It also improves communication throughout the organisation by allowing mentees to give feedback and learn in a not so formal fashion which helps people feel more relaxed and develops the formal and informal culture of the organisation. From the organisations standpoint mentoring is a cost effective way of training and developing new staff, and it helps retain existing staff by giving them more responsibility. It is argued that with the underlying causes behind facilitated mentoring lying in cost effectiveness, does this underlying tenet prevent a real chemistry existing between the mentor and the mentee. This is not necessarily the case in all organisations, the Metropolitan police force (a non profit organisation) have recognised the need for mentoring and have incorporated it both internally and externally to assist them in their day to day work. The Metropolitan Police have started a mentoring scheme for young ethnic officers by pairing them with a mentor from the same background, to help them get prepared for the job and also to act as counselors and to deal with any reservations they may have about joining the force. This type of mentoring scheme is based more around relationship forming and

  • 6. Visualization Of A Graph Essay Recent advancements in data collection is producing big complex data in many areas which can be modeled as graphs entities (vertices/nodes) and their relationships (edges). They are increasingly being encountered in various fields of study. With this burst in data creation and collection, effective analysis of medium to large graphs is becoming increasingly popular in many fields such as social networkanalysis, biology, education, etc. With this increasing demand in large graph analytics, visual analysis of graphs has gained a lot of attention. Visualization has become an important tool in graph analysis and plays a critical role in thorough understanding of graphs. A key advantage of visualization is, representing large amounts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These graphs exhibit a power law degree distribution of the vertices. begin{equation} P(x) ~ k^{ gamma}, 3 gamma 2 end{equation} This indicates that a small portion of vertices in the graph have a very high degree and there are a lot of vertices with lower degrees. Vertices with very high degree are key vertices for the connectivity of the graph and these vertices are called as hub vertices. Examples of hub vertices are a network router in a communication network, a popular person in a social network with many connections, etc. Graph visualization featuring relatively important node identification, revealing the structure of the graph is useful for these type of graphs. Majority of the existing graph visualization algorithms force based, etc. result in high computation times and generate a space filling, cluttered visualization like a hairball. This visual clutter is due to overlapping vertices which are a result of drawing all connected nodes close to each other and too many edge crossings making the graph not readable. These layout generation algorithms fail to either reveal its intrinsic structure or readily identify relatively important vertices. Rendering large number of vertices in a small space aggravates visualization clutter by increasing overlapping, thereby making it hard to see/select the vertices. A lot of solutions have been proposed

Nonetheless, Puerto Ricans still face myriad challenges with respect to the integration and acceptance of their culture in Hartford. Although the PR community is only two generations old, Puerto Ricans have managed to both organize and mobilize in this relatively short time (Cruz, 2). Finally, I examine an important point that Cruz only touched upon briefly, which is the idea of cultural citizenship in the Puerto Rican community. This added point helps us to fully understand the role identity politics played in Puerto Ricans lives. Puerto Ricans first entered the realm of identity politics with their migration to Hartford, beginning in the 1950s. Their motivation was primarily economic; that is, Hartford had an abundance of job opportunities in restaurants, stores, factories, and farms in comparison to New York City and Puerto Rico (Cruz, 37). Puerto Ricans were now working and living alongside many other citizens of different ethnicities and were treated much like other

They also need to address whether to expand their product line. Offering more products will attract customers and help them to compete with their rivals. Another issue management should address could be competition. Competition from other eateries and cafГ©s will be something that could hurt Panera. Again, I believe management is smart and knows what tactics work in this area, but competition is still a factor that could hurt Panera and something to follow. They also need to address whether to correct the company s deficiencies by acquiring a rival company with the missing strengths. The final issue would be location. 40% of Panera s bakery cafГ©s are located in the Midwest. If a significant amount of these locations suffered serious damage for whatever reason, it d hurt the company. Again, the strong balance sheet means the company can handle some difficulties. But if anything major kept the cafГ©s shut or the customers away, Panera wouldn t have much support from the stock market. They could also address whether to expand into foreign markets. This would help Panera s continual growth. 6. What does Panera Bread need to do to strengthen its competitive position and business prospects vis Г vis other restaurant
  • 13. American, Little Miss Sunshine, By Jonathan Dayton And... American Sunshine The American Dream has been redefined through different eras of the United States. At its most optimistic, the American Dream is about having the freedom and opportunity to do and be whatever one chooses, the success stemming from one s achievement of individuality. But the influences of capitalistic ideals in the United States have shifted the common definition and instead of optimism the American Dream is now defined in more cynical terms of upward mobility and wealth. Conversely, the 2006 comedy Little Miss Sunshine by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than facing against the discomforts of the working class grind, they seem to be complacent in their existence of freewheeling abandon (Madden 2016). In addition to the importance that is placed on money and wealth, the central theme of Arnold s film lies in the interactions more accurately transactions between the crew and the people they meet. These kids are supposedly selling magazines, but really they are selling themselves. That feels very American. So the environment in the bus is like a potted version of the bigger picture (Class Notes). As the film progresses the lines that define what Star will and won t do for money become more blurred as she begins to lose herself to Arnold s American dream a fantasy born out of hardship. The importance of wealth is equally reflected in moments of Little Miss Sunshine. Plane tickets are unaffordable, so the entire Hoover family is forced to drive to California for the daughter Olive s competition because they cannot in good conscious leave behind any of their number, however much they d like to separate (Klawans, p.42). When they make a stop at a restaurant each of the family members must order something from the menu under four dollars, another testament to the realism of their financial means. While wealth is not the central point of Dayton and Faris film, the moments that are shaped by wealth resonate with the primary ideology of success in Little Miss Sunshine. To be

The Rape of the Lock is a story about taking a minor incident and satirizing it by making it into a huge and important epic of divine proportions. One might think of the phrase a tempest in a teapot , which perfectly describes this poem. In the poem, the main character, a girl named Belinda, has her hairunwillingly cut by a baron, and the struggle to regain her lost hair even pulls in mythical creatures like sylphs to describe this epic poem. Pope was actually asked to write something like this in order to reconcile two Catholic families, as the hair cutting fiasco was based off a real event that caused bad blood between the two aforementioned families. The man who requested the poem, John Caryll, hoped that if the two families could laugh about the whole thing, they would put the whole thing behind them and end their estrangement (Rippy, n.p.).
  • 16. Factors In The Colonization Of North America Even though the French were key factors in the colonization of North America, they are not normally mentioned in history books. However, their lack of prominence in history books does not mean that they are entirely unimportant. The French were extremely skilled hunters and trappers when they came to North America, and almost all furs and skins from North America were insanely valuable. Also, the French explorers were after everything every other explorer was after; the Northwest Passage , and a shorter route to Asia/India. Another thing that many French settlers wanted was religious freedom, after all, the Huguenots were Protestants in France, which was a mainly Catholic country. These would all be very commonly stated things if you were to ask a French settler, explorer, or Huguenot why they wanted to go to North America. In fact, there are many reasons as to why this is what everyone wanted, not just the French people. First and foremost, skins and furs from North America were invaluable to people back in France. According to Discovering Our Past: A History of the United States, French trading towns were so important that, France built forts to protect their trade, (52) showing just how important it was that they got the materials they wanted. To have furs in France was a sign of wealth (so they could easily sell them, due to the demand), and they had to keep warm in the colder parts of North America; that is why French traders were so keen on getting the furs they

Jane Eyre, and Bertha Mason all have both experienced extreme mental distress and reacted in their own unique but similar way. Many scholars have deeply analyzed the symbolic and literal meanings of Bertha s insanity and associating it to the oppressive force of the patriarchy. I argue that along with this, Bertha s insanity serves the hidden purpose of bringing to light Jane s lack of independence and effort that led to her success. The most notable one is Jane being trapped in the Red Room and Bertha being imprisoned in Thornfield attic for ten years after showing signs of violent insanity. Though the overall count of the syllables might be the same as a regular sonnet, he varies the syllable count in individual sentences such as in line one, where he has only nine syllables, and line six, where he has eleven syllables. He shows that he is trying to break back into nature. He does not want to follow form, and be a machine that just regurgitates information, without any real thought. Larkin comments on what being an individual in society is worth, and how that worth is lost, because no one thinks for himself or herself anymore. By only changing the syllable count of individual sentences, and not the whole piece of writing, he is able to show that certain people, like him, are able to break out society s structure. There are television programs about the African Queens and Kings who never set sail for America, but are acknowledged as the pillars of our identity. In addition, our black school children finally get to hear about the history of their ancestors instead of hearing about Columbus and the founding of America. Black Americans should be acknowledged for not only their contributions to American society, but also for being a part of American society and upholding the traditions and values of this country. Black History Month should not be a celebration that comes and goes in our own minds and homes. Black History Month should not be a remembrance that is acknowledged only when the official day begins. Black History Month is an accomplishment that we should be proud of in the Black community. Carter G. Woodson chose the month of February for some important reasons. For instance, Black History Month marks the birthdays of two men who influenced the black population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln according to Woodson. In addition, the Fifteenth Amendment was passed on February 3, 1870, which granted blacks the right to vote. There were a lot of significant reasons for allowing Black History Week to begin in February. However, I seriously doubt if Woodson would have accepted the extension of this week in the shortest month of the year. Woodson chose a week in February, because it had symbolic significance. Black History Week began in 1926. However, it is now 1999 and in seventy three years Black Americans allowed our contributions to American society to be extended from Negro History Week to Black History

Men Were Not Always At The Head Of The Table Essay Molly Clark Mrs. Snider AP English 12 11 October 2016 Men Were not Always at the Head of the Table Jane Austen, in her book Pride and Prejudice, ignores that fact that, at the time, women were inferior to the men and makes many of the female character dominate to the male characters which causes her novel to become of like a feminist novel. Some of the female characters include Elizabeth, Mrs. Bennet, Lady Catherine, Lydia, Jane, Miss Darcy, Caroline, and Miss Bingley just to name a few. The male characters on the other hand include Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley. Mr. Bennet, Mr. Wickham, and Mr. Collins. Although there are a couple other male characters, for example relatives of the Bennets, they show up in the novel for a short period of time and are rarely mentioned afterword. Just by the list of the characters alone the reader can already see the dominance of the female characters. But what makes Pride and Prejudice a feminist novel is not the overwhelming amount female characters, but how these characters use what limited power they had at the time to overrule the men in the novel. The main character in this novel is a female Elizabeth Bennet. She is described and

  • 50. Discipline In Home Life In Ian, Trina, And Juvenile Crimes Discipline is defined as, the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience. Children s actions and behavior are all based on how disciplined they are in their home life. Without discipline, I think maturity is expected to not come as early in age as it would for someone who is taught the differences between right and wrong during their childhood years. When children are maturing, they need to have support and discipline from their guardians to succeed and become good independent adults without getting into trouble with the law. In chapter 8, Stevenson introduces us to Ian, Trina, and Antonio. All three of these characters were sent to juvenile prisonfor various crimes they had committed. Each of their stories had one thing in common, neglect. Parents are primarily responsible for meeting their children s needs. However, there are usually multiple and interacting contributors to parenting and to neglect (Howard Dubowitz). In chapter 8, all of the characters faced traumatic home life circumstances. They each faced abandonment at such a young age. They were abused and neglected by their own parents. This set bad examples for each of these kids at such a young age. This made all three of them run into problems with the American Justice System because of individual juvenile crimes they each had made. Ian, Trina, and Antonio were all three convicted of different crimes but in my opinion, they all link back to one

In the year preceding the crisis, there were several indicators suggesting that the Mexican economy and peso were already under extreme pressure. Decreasing Current Account Deficit versus Increasing Capital Account Balance Mexico was running an increasing current account deficit from US$7.5 billion in 1990 to US$23.4 billion in 1993. The interest rate for peso denominated cetes rose to 15.79% in April 1994 and increased to 17.07% in July 1994. However, in the second half of 1994, the Mexican government started to reduce the interest rate, contrary to the federal fund rate. Also, more of dollar denominated tesobonos were issued aggressively instead of peso denominated cetes. This was likely due to investors being more willing to hold tesobonos as they will be covered against the risks of devaluation and also lower interest rate for tesobonos than cetes. This was an indication that there was a loss in confidence for peso (i.e. people expected that the peso will devaluate to a point that even the differential in interest will not be able to cover and so were unwilling to hold on to peso denominated bonds). 4. Declining Real GDP Growth The Mexico?s inflation rate was really not in control as promised by the Mexican government. The Consumer Price Index was on the rise and real GDP growth has declined from 4.5% in 1990 to 0.6% in 1993.
