The trailer establishes tension through non-diegetic music and silence as it shows two strangers whose plane has crashed in a remote location. Intertitles question if their lives will depend on each other. Extreme close-ups of the characters' eyes are used to intensify the emotions they are experiencing and create sympathy for their perilous situation. The trailer leaves viewers questioning if the two strangers will survive to pique interest in the film.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The Art Pastor's Guide to Sabbath | Steve ThomasonSteve Thomason
What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
2. • The trailer throughout is a conversation between the two main
characters, acting almost as a character voiceover.
• There is non-diegetic music throughout to build the tension. This
music is the sound of a piano playing slowly and stops during the
main action. Music nearing the ending is more tense and builds up.
• There are a few intertitles during the trailer. They say ‘from 20th
Century Fox’ and ‘what if your life depended on a stranger?’
• Some fade to blacks are used at the beginning of trailer and we hear
the female character say “Sir,” slowing down the scene in contrast to
the fast-paced action
• There are extreme screenshots of each characters eyes. This
unnaturally close view intensifies feelings that the character is
experiencing and allows us to feel sympathy for, and establish a
connection with, the character in question
3. • So the audience are aware of the situation and understand what is
going on the dialogue used helps us to understand that the female
character is on the way to her wedding and the man going to a
medical conference.
• Silence is used in a shot of the mountains to enhance the fact that
they are alone and no one else is near therefore creating a tense
atmosphere, leading the audience to question do they survive? What
happens? So that ultimately viewers will hopefully go on to watch the
film.
• For an L-cut, the dialogue continues as the camera cuts to another
image, this is used when the male character shouts, ‘ Hello anybody
hear me’ accompanied by shots of the mountains, an establishing
shot. His voice is drowned out so it is clear thy are in the middle of no
where.
• Canted angles are used after the plane has crashed to show that
something is not right.
4. • This screenshot
shows a track in on
the characters mid
intense action, where
the shots are of a
very quick pace.
• Props, the leg cast,
and makeup showing
the injuries sustained
show the impact of
the crash so the
audience will become
intrigued and feel
these characters are
in real danger.
6. • Slow motion is used thought the trailer to create tension and to enable
audiences to have a longer focus on the action happening
• Enhanced sound of a helicopter used by main characters to enhance the
importance of the big objects in relation to the film, also there is enhanced
sounds of an explosion to highlight a main part of the meaning of the film,
and a plan , gun and handcuffs sounds are enhanced
• The character voiceover of this trailer is dialogue of both sides
‘missions/plans’ so to speak
• Again intertitles feature ‘universal pictures presents’ ‘all roads lead to this’
• The music abruptly stops after the title and release date are shown
• The pace picks up and slows down in the trailer, some times to introduce a
new character
• The last elements of the trailer are the title and release date in large bold
font. The title is shown after the dramatic music ends, which encourages
the audience to reflect on what they have just watched and to remember
the name f the film and the date it is going to be released
7. • L cuts are again used in this trailer as the revving of a sports car is
heard under shots of other cars and women.
• Ellipsis is used during a conversation between Brian and Dom
showing that time had passed since Dom finding out big news.
• The shots constantly fade to black during the trailer and the title
comes onto and off of the film using special effects.
• Although a lot is given away in the trailer, especially lots of the action,
fights and car chases and crashes, the ending of the film is not given
away to she audience have a clear idea what the film will be like and
what to expect. The trailer is filmed as if the viewer is already
watching the film, therefore leading them to want to carry on
watching.
• All of the enhanced sounds and sound effects build adrenaline and
tension for the audience to be persuaded to watch the film, giving
away not too much but using some of the best shots.
8. • Quite a few aerial
shots to establish
the locations
• During action pace is
quick, short takes
and non diegetic
music is intense and
upbeat and quick so
the takes and the
beat to the music
are in time with
each other
10. • Non-diegetic music is played under the dialogue voiceover by the
characters which enhanced the atmosphere as the music is slow but
gripping, tension is built as different shots are shown at the beat of
the music
• There is low key lighting in a fair chunk of this trailer, setting the
scene and atmosphere as quite eerie
• Questions that are unanswered will encourage the audience to pay to
see the film. This trailer leaves an unanswered question at the end as
the main male character asks “ Are you asking me if I killed my wife?”
• Once again intertitles are used. This is very common in trailers. In this
film it is some of the words to peoples wedding vows ‘ to have and to
hold for better or worse, til’…’ which is ironic as the marriage has
obviously completely broken down
11. • Only one ident is shown at the beginning to allow more of the film
content to be shown/ focus on the trailer rather than the people that
helped make it, the indent was regency and the production company
was shown. This was 20th Century Fox.
• Along with the pace increasing the sound also increases to bring back
the tension created and to contrast the sounds and pace previously,
pace builds throughout trailer, start slow and increases
• Low lighting used throughout, at beginning all is sweet so more of a
yellow based tone in the colour but as the situation becomes sour a
more bluey lighting effect is used to show the coldness of the
situation
• A various use of different shots are used whist dialogue can be heard
12. • This two shot enables
us to see emotions felt
in the faces of both
characters and shots of
the missing person with
the person who is said
to have killed her may
leave audience
questioned and
intrigued to watch
14. • Drama/ romance films tend to be happier therefore the film is filled with
more colour than a horror for example
• Innocent upbeat non diegetic music; ‘ I remember telling you I love you’ is
one of the lyrics
• Intertitles are present ‘ what if you could experience every moment all over
again?’
• Cross-cutting between the main characters from when they were younger
in the past to the present showing them now.
15. • Montage of shots of the two main characters when they were
younger and together and in love.
• Intertitle ‘ from Nicholas Sparks’ (well known and popular author so
might be a draw for some of the audience)
• There is a steady pace throughout as there is no intense action due to
the film being a romance, and there are fade to blacks throughout
the trailer
• Dialogue as well as music is played throughout keeping the upbest
feel of a romance
17. • Montage footage of the couples memories they shared throughout
the years they had been together so the audience get an emotional
connection to them and will hopefully become upset when she falls
out of love with him and doesn't remember her husband and thinks
she is engaged to her ex
• Meat Loaf song, ‘ I’d do anything for love’ is played as diegetic music
as the characters can hear the music playing on the car radio. The
lyrics foreshadow what the husband will do further on in the trailer
and throughout the film ‘ I would do anything for love’ he is shown to
try and make his wife fall in love with him again through gestures like
dates.
