This document contains lecture notes on labeling in information architecture. It discusses the purpose of labels as efficient communication, and how they should help users identify concepts and educate them on new concepts. The notes provide examples of different types of labels, such as textual, iconic, contextual links and headings. It also discusses guidelines for developing effective labeling systems, such as focus, consistency, controlled vocabularies and evaluating existing labels. The document concludes by assigning reading from the textbook and homework for the following week.

These big data go beyond intuition and human analytical abilities. They require new tools to store, query, process and view information.
Understanding the New World of Cognitive ComputingDATAVERSITY
Cognitive Computing is a rapidly developing technology that has reached practical application and implementation. So what is it? Do you need it? How can it benefit your business?
In this webinar a panel of experts in Cognitive Computing will discuss the technology, the current practical applications, and where this technology is going. The discussion will start with a review of a recent survey produced by DATAVERSITY on how Cognitive Computing is currently understood by your peers. The panel will also review many components of the technology including:
Cognitive Analytics
Machine Learning
Deep Learning
Reasoning
And next generation artificial intelligence (AI)
And get involved in the discussion with your own questions to present to the panel.

Managing the Microsoft Power Platform platform can sometimes be very complex, and because your users have access to the various Power Apps and Power Automate options from other services, it's important to understand and understand the intricacies of the options. Understanding the differences in fault environments and others will allow you to better understand its management and better control the costs.
We'll also discuss the risks of letting unchecked developments proliferate at the risk of seeing a repeat of situations already encountered with Microsoft Access and Excel and some applications that have become critical in your business but completely absent from your service contract.
Self-Service Data Analysis, Data Wrangling, Data Munging, and Data Modeling –...DATAVERSITY
Self-Service data analysis holds the promise of more rapid time-to-value for both business and IT users as advanced tooling & visualization helps make sense of raw and source data sets. Does this mean that the paradigm of ‘design-then-build’ that’s typical of data modeling is no longer relevant? Or is it more relevant than ever, as more eyes on the data means more questions about core business definitions.
Join Donna Burbank for this webinar to discuss the realities of where data modeling fits in this new paradigm.
The “definition” of Data Scientist says that one should know Math and Statistics, has a domain or business-specific knowledge and knows how to put it in programming code. Nobody knows to what extent this knowledge should be present in a single unicorn. One’s for sure - it grows over time. Knowing to implement and use ML models as repeatable tasks is what separates statisticians and researchers from the Data Scientists that help businesses improve their performance. That’s where the art of coding jumps in.
Graph databases provide the ability to quickly discover and integrate key relationships between enterprise data sets. Business use cases such as recommendation engines, social networks, enterprise knowledge graphs, and more provide valuable ways to leverage graph databases in your organization. This webinar will provide an overview of graph database technologies, and how they can be used for practical applications to drive business value.
This presentation was originally delivered in three parts at the SharePoint Evolutions conference in London, 15th April 2013. It was designed for a business audience - project leads and decision makers responsible for delivering intranet projects
Interactive data visualization facilitates data exploration via manipulating chart images. The color, brightness, shape, and size of visual objects represent the features of the dataset being analyzed. These products provide a collection of visualization alternatives beyond pie, bar, and line charts. These tools allow users to interpret the data by interacting with a visual illustration of it.

Labels make an Impression
2/12/2013
The way you say or represent information in your site
says a lot about you, your organization, and its
brand. If you’ve ever read an airline magazine, you’re familiar
with those ads for some educational cassette series that
develops your vocabulary. “The words you use can
make or break your business deals” or something
like that. The same is true with a web site’s labeling—poor,
unprofessional labeling can destroy a user’s
confidence in that organization.
