Short Story Essays
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Short Story Essays" poses a unique set of challenges that
require a delicate balance of creativity, analytical skills, and literary prowess. The difficulty lies
not only in the need to showcase a profound understanding of short stories but also in the ability
to weave a compelling narrative within the constraints of an essay format.
To begin with, one must delve into the world of short stories, understanding their nuanced
structures, character developments, and thematic elements. Analyzing the intricate details of
various short stories, selecting the most suitable ones for discussion, and extracting meaningful
insights demand a meticulous approach. Balancing brevity with depth becomes a constant
struggle, as the concise nature of short stories challenges the writer to convey rich meanings
within a limited word count.
Moreover, the process involves navigating through the complexities of literary analysis.
Articulating the author's intentions, unraveling symbolism, and exploring the impact of narrative
techniques require a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the subtleties of storytelling.
Crafting a coherent and insightful argument demands an understanding of the broader literary
context and the ability to connect disparate elements into a cohesive narrative.
Beyond the intellectual challenges, there's the creative aspect. Developing a compelling thesis
statement and constructing an engaging introduction that captivates the reader's attention
become crucial. The essay must then flow seamlessly from point to point, maintaining a balance
between analysis and personal interpretation. Concluding the essay in a way that leaves a lasting
impression without introducing new ideas adds another layer of complexity.
In essence, writing an essay on "Short Story Essays" requires a delicate dance between critical
analysis and creative expression. It is a task that demands a fusion of literary appreciation,
analytical prowess, and effective communication skills. Yet, the challenge is not insurmountable
for those willing to invest time and effort into honing their writing abilities.
If you find yourself grappling with the intricacies of such essays or any other academic writing
task, consider seeking assistance. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer a range of services
where skilled writers can help navigate the complexities of essay writing, providing valuable
insights and well-crafted compositions tailored to your specific needs.

The Kingship Of Odysseus
Odysseus s love for Penelope has not been changed even though he spends almost
eight years with goddesses. When Odysseus meet his mother in the House of
Death, he asks her about his family and royal rights. His shows the values of
kingship for him as he says, do my royal rights still lie in their safekeeping?
(XI.269). So let s look to the feeling of kingship that is internalized within him due to
a period of hardship.
Odysseus, being the king of his homeland, possesses remarkable leadership abilities.
In Greek system, king is known as ОІО±ПѓО№О»ОµПЌП‚ and has the power to
lead the people of his country. For instance, Odysseus appears as a leader when he
goes alone to free his shipmates from Circe s palace by keeping the companions in
the ship even though Eurylochus warns him that Circe is dangerous and there is no
chance for him to return from her. He does not depend on his shipmates to take any
decision from which he is an independent man. Thus, Odysseus considers himself a
heroic king who takes care of his people and always leads and protects them.
Odysseus would get the honor of a king only in Ithaca. Although Calypso could
provide everything to Odysseus, she could only fulfill his materialistic demands at
best. But Odysseus always thinks to rule over the citizens of his nation. If Odysseus
had married Calypso, that island would have been his land. Even though Odysseus
would be immortal and even he would have power after marriage, his power would
still be less than that of
Media s Influence On Society s Emotions And Opinions
Media has continuously manipulated and defined society s emotions and opinions. In
the United States, media emerged as a dominant social figure in the 19th century
(Thomson Lee). Since then, media has serviced the purpose of providing the
audience with real time information on issues and news surrounding local, national
and international events. Whether it is written, broadcast, or spoken communication
has become the key to the members of society. In fact, daily life relies heavily on the
information provided by media. While being exposed to a lot of information may be
positive, it can also cause an overload of negative repercussion on people and
society. Many experts agree that media is dominated by images that negatively
impact the way society take actions in their day to day life. The media has also
generated a set of tools that can be used dramatically to improve organizational
performance. It has contributed to political leaders worldwide by identifying, and
reflecting their ideas through the mass communication epidemic.

A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings By Gabriel
Marquez
In the story, A Very Old Man with Enormous WIngs, Gabriel Marquez uses many
examples of magical realism. The main character in the story, the Old Man, is a
very bold and outright example of magical realism. Marquez uses magical realism
throughout the story to show the characters motives and truths. To show you how
Marquez uses magical realism, I will show you examples dealing with the Old
Man. The first and biggest example of magical realism in the story is the Old Man.
Pelayo just finds an old man with huge wings in his courtyard and is weirded out but
quickly becomes unphased. As soon as someone tells him the man is an angel he
believes them, these would never happen in real life. Also, all the townspeople and
neighbors don t find the angel
Engineering Is A Building Block For Our Nation s Economy
What makes the economy grow, and continue to drive our country forward?
Engineering is a building block for our nation s economy. Our economy needs
people coming up with the latest and greatest such as: smartphones, TV,
refrigerators, homes, office buildings, etc. Engineering is a career field that is ever
growing and expanding with the economy. There will always be a need for new
promising engineering students. Engineering is big in a lot of industries, but there
are a few big industries that stand out with engineering. With that being said
engineering plays a big role in the economy, and vice versa, the economy plays a
large role in engineering also. In addition, engineering doesn t plan on stopping
anytime soon, so there are plans on what it will do for the future. Without
engineering we would not be making technological advances, not be building
structures the way we do now, and we would not have some of the things that many
of us take for granted in this era.
There are major industries within every career field including Engineering. Those big
industries are what run engineering field and also the economy. In engineering the
top five most sought after employers or firms in order include: NASA, Google,
Boeing, Apple, and Microsoft. Many people seek jobs with these firms because they
offer some of the best salaries around, and new engineers will be working on the
newest and greatest technological advances. Everybody wants the latest and greatest.

Public Interest Groups
According to Lenz Holman, public policy refers to governmental programs, rules, and
courses of action (2013). Public policy comes about through 6 stages: problem
recognition, agenda setting, policy formulation, policy adoption, policy
implementation, and policy evaluation (Lenz Holman, 2013). Public interest groups
have a great influence on formulating public policy, and implementing their personal
agendas. They do this through lobbying. Lobbyist create networks with members of
Congress, who then create public policy that benefits the interests of their group or
organization.
How are public issues identified? Individuals, interest groups, and public officials
identify public issues. Some public issues are very apparent. For those issues that
are not so well accepted, public interest groups are formed in order to raise
awareness (Lenz Holman, 2013). These groups greatly influence what policies are
made with in the United States. Interest groups compete against each other in order
to promote their own views, and either pass public policy or change it (Gabel Scott,
2011). Congress members work with interest groups in order to create an agenda or
plan of action to implement new policies. A public issue must be... Show more

For every interest group in support of a public policy, there is most likely another
group that is opposed to it. Other factors that influence public policy agenda and
formulation are the President, executive officials, media and public opinions.
Lobbyist s and interest groups play a role here too (Ushistory.org, 2016). They are
able to utilize the media in order to reach more and more people to support their
cause. Interest groups that can get executive officials to support their cause will have
an even greater influence on public opinion. All of these factors go into deciding
what policy will be the solution to the current public

that Pitbull has no place in academics and should remain in the areas that he is

Essay about Those Winter Sundays
Those Winter Sundays Robert Hayden s, Those Winter Sundays , is a poem of a
son s regret over his inability to honor and appreciate his father during the course
of his upbringing. It uses one event to describe a father and son s entire
relationship. Actually, Those Winter Sundays is a poem written for Robert
Hayden s father. Although at first the poem does not seem to be a great tribute to
his father, Hayden s admiration and love for his father breaks through the lines. In
the poem, Hayden uses many descriptive words to set the scene for his work. His
vivid words help me to imagine how hard his father worked and sacrificed for his
family. When Hayden writes cracked hands that ached , he is using the cracked

The idea of chronic angers is introduced into the calm scene of the home in the
early morning. It seems as though the father was a harsh man who scared his
children but deep down he loved them very much. The chronic angers was what
made the children not realize his love. It was clear in Hayden s writing that anger
was a constant in the home; just as much a part of the mornings as the fire itself.
With the presence of anger in the home, Hayden implies that he had a poor
relationship with his father, although it may have been self protective, but
ungrateful. At the end of the poem, Hayden describes what he discovered looking
back on those mornings, What did I know, what did I know of love s austere and
lonely offices . The repetition of What did I know adds emphasis to this thought,
like Hayden is full of regret, wishing he had known, and had thanked his father for
what he had accomplished for his family. The words austere and lonely also carry
a lot of meaning that can be interpreted as a lack of caring, as well as the father s
harsh treatment of his children. As he grew up, Hayden realized that his father was
totally self sacrificing. His father took no thought for his own comfort. As a child
Hayden doubted his father s love, but as he grew older he realized that love is often
expressed silently and indirectly by actions and not words. In the end, Hayden finally
The Impact Of Ford And The Firestone Crisis
Ford and the Firestone crisis was a long standing controversy between the car
manufacturer and the tyre company based on the failures of Ford Explorer
vehicles with Firestone tyres. In the year 2001, the controversy broke out as there
were plenty of incidents happened as more than 220 people have been killed with
road accidents all over America involving Ford Explorer vehicles. There was a bit
of rivalry between Ford and General Motors and with this controversy it had
damaged the reputation of Ford which resulted in the loss of its market share and its
loyalty among customers. Both the companies were facing millions of dollars of
lawsuits from various costumers. This controversy brought an end to the 100 year
old supplier relationship which began in 1896 between Ford and Firestone (The
Economist, 2017).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ford had also Installed Good year tyres into their Explorer vehicles and despite
having the same standards and Quality, Goodyear tyres gave very little technical
problems to the vehicles. There were plenty of blame games going on during the
controversy, as Bridgestone, the Parent company of Firestone had argued that the
problem lies within the Ford Explorer standard and safety features rather than the
fault in their Tyres. Firestone during that time is worried about the fact that other
vehicle companies would cancel their orders with firestone because of this
controversy. During the committee hearing, there were evidences which showed that
Ford have been replacing firestone tyres with tyres of Low quality (The Economist,
2017). In the end, Firestone, had agreed to pay Ford a compensation of 240 Million
USD and ended the claims (Cbsnews.com, 2017). In 2001, Bridgestone/Firestone had
announced that they would be cutting their 100 year old relationship with Ford

Making a Connection in The Crying of Lot 49 For as long as I could read
comprehensively, I have always believed that great writing centered around well
written stories that would both provide a certain measure of unaffected pleasure, as
well as challenge the readers perception of the world at large; both within and
outside of the sphere of its prose. Thomas Pynchons The Crying of Lot 49
encompasses both of those requirements; by enfolding his readers, through a variety
of means, within the intricate workings of his narrative. It centers around would be

Both the reader and the characters develop similar problems in dealing with the
chaos around them. Like Pynchons reader s, Oedipa is forced to either work
toward interpreting the trail of seemingly indecipherable clues being tossed in her
wake or forgo it all and walk away in bewilderment. Like the reader by deciding to
go on, however aimlessly, she is forcibly drawn out of the complacency of her own
existence; into a chaotic system of intrigue that reaches far beyond her normal
scope of understanding. In the same turn, like Oedipa the reader s role is also
based on interpreting numerous symbols and metaphorical clues as a means of
stumbling upon a legible conclusion that will stop the madness. Each of them
arriving at a different conclusion or none at all solely depended upon how far the
use of our perceptions will allow us to go. Unfortunately both Oedipa and the reader

innuendo saturating this book from cover to cover. Unable to sufficiently distinguish
between what is real and relevant and what is unreal and irrelevant, both are left

Aboriginal Self-Government in Canada Essay
The question that is brought up is not that of sex, but it is that of aboriginals in
Canada. The question that is asked is should there be an aboriginal self
government? If the government were to go ahead and give the natives there own
government they would be losing money and would most likely have angry
taxpayers after their asses for the rest of there sorry political lives. The government
would also have to deal with a swarm of Quebecans that would be harassing them
because of their decision to give the nativestheir own government, because of their

At least they ll think that they will. Either way the government will have to put up
with the whining of the disrupted natives. There is still a pretty good chance that the
natives will leave the government alone for a while.
After the years of complaining and fighting, the natives got what they want.
Hopefully they ll be happy with what the government gave them and not fight for any
more rights, because they have enough already. As mentioned in the first paragraph,
giving the natives their own government would cause the government of Canada to
lose a lot of money that can be used for other useful needs, such as spending the
money on something more useful, such as education, which there isn t enough spent
on. Maybe the government could even think about putting some more money into
health care and give the less fortunate people a chance to receive medical help when
needed instead of them not wanting to go a physician because of the amount of
money needed to attend one. The Canadian government is always complaining about
how they re in debt and can t afford to accomplish certain goals they promised to
achieve. Well I don t see them turning down the request to give the natives their own
government, which will cost the government a few dollars.
The government should also maybe consider the fact that there other things out in

The Naked Eye And Inner Eye Of Bishop
Naked Eye and Inner Eye of Bishop From the perspective of a normal person with
penetrating perception and description instead of omniscient point of view (or God),
the poetry of Elisabeth Bishop tend to allow the truth drift itself with seemingly
natural expression. There is realism, lyricism and romanticism in her work, all
melded in a most individual manner of perception and poetrymaking, and I would try
to analyze the diversity of the vision angles of her work.

Introduction The American Revolution is defined as the political turbulence that took
place towards the end of eighteenth century when thirteen colonies in America united
to attain freedom from the British Empire (Clifford, 2005). The union of the thirteen
colonies is now known as the United States of America. According to Clifford (2005),
the American Revolutionoccurred because of a series of political, intellectual, and
social transformations in the American government and society, which is known as
the American Enlightenment. The American Revolution created a variety of
opportunities for the American slaves to attain freedom (Waldstreicher, 2004). Slaves

An approximate of three thousand slaves escaped from their masters in 1781 when
the British invaded Virginia (Blumrosen Blumrosen, 2006). About five thousand and
twenty thousand slaves in Georgia and South Carolina, respectively, were freed from
bondage as a result of the American Revolution (Clifford, 2005). The Revolution s
natural rights philosophy inspired the freed blacks to request the state legislatures to
get rid of slavery and Congress to terminate the slave trade (Waldstreicher, 2004).
Many of the freed slaves moved to the North because they believed that living
conditions were better in the North than in the South. Unfortunately, they
experienced many problems in the North, such as lack of jobs, insufficient food,
and lack of housing, which forced many of them to go back to the south to work
on the cotton plantations for wages (Clifford, 2005). In the South, the freed slaves
were assured of food and housing. Therefore, the population of slaves started to
grow again in the 1790s and spread into other lands that became the cotton belt

Essay Tchaikovsky
Tchaikovsky ATchaikovsky=s music is not only one of the cornerstones of
Russian musical society and world music . . . It is at the same time a creative and
technical encyclopedia to which every Russian composer has reference in the
course of his own work,@ commented Dimitri Shostakovich.1 This was a typical
view held by Tchaikovsky=s contemporaries. He was well known and well
respected, especially in his later years. In addition, Tchaikovsky was recognized as
the most expressive Romantic composer in Russia.2 He was often idolized and put
on a pedestal, particularly during his tour of the United States in 1891 when he
conducted concerts of his own works in some of the leading concert halls.

Straight Out Of Compton Any publicity is good publicity. Aspiring rapper Eric
Eazy E Wright states to the rest of his fellow N.W.A brothers as they sit to discuss
the police and F.B.I threats that they have been receiving in the mall. The movie
Straight Out of Compton is based on the true story about six troubled some young
black men residing in Compton, California who rise unexpectedly to fame, using
their viciously honest rhymes, die hard beats, and frustrations about their lifestyle in
the streets of the hood. Active from 1986 to 1991 these six men Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr.

The movie Straight Out of Compton is an intense rollercoaster of chaos and
suspense, but is too graphic and real for the faint of heart to handle. Raw and
cutting edge as it can get director Felix Gary Gray s ideas for the series of historical
events that had impacted the group N.W.Abegins to take shape starring from the
actions of police brutality throughout the Los Angles and Compton area in
California. Despite Gray s best intentions to relive the historical events referring to
the Rodney King case where a black man was beaten severely by ten white police
officers without aid, later founding the police men innocent in all claims of the
beating. As a result, the Los Angels riots started to were thousands of people set
fires and burned down local community stores due the incident being considered a
race factor. Later to the sad and emotional death of the young MC and business
entrepreneur, Eazy E stating that he had transmitted AIDS. If Straight Out of

Factors Of Macrocarpa Phaleria
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1Background Nutrient is a chemical element that
gives nourishment and affects the metabolic and nutritive processes of the human
body. Nutrients are necessary for growth, cell repair, health maintenance,
reproduction and also provide energy. It is also important for building the materials
that needed for survival and growth of a living organism. There are six major
nutrients which are water, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, protein and minerals.
Nowadays, we can know a lot from the food label where the food producer will list
the nutrients detailed information. Besides, it will help the consumers know well
about the nutrients content in their food. Nutrients help to prevent and cure various
diseases such as anemia, diabetes, night blindness, dental disease and osteoporosis.
Underutilized fruits and crops are usually cultivated, consumed and traded locally.

History of Ict
History of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the Philippines
The Philippines connected to the internet in 1994 via the Philippine Internet
Foundation (PHNet), the first internet service provider in the country. Penetration
increased slowly until 2005, when Executive Order 109 was enacted calling for the
expansion of telecommunication services to underserved areas, which in turn
promoted competition in the information and communications technology (ICT)
sector. Internet use further accelerated after 2008 with the entry of a number of
industry players, although the use of mobile phones has remained more widespread.
Penetration of such technologies is higher in urban areas where middle to upper

Many local ISPs go through the PLDT because it owns the 10,000 kilometer
Domestic Fiber Optic Network (DFON) connected to several international cable
routes and has the highest capacity in the country at 250 Gbps. PLDT also owns or
manages several international cable landings in the country. Further, the country s
telecommunications industry in the last decade has been characterized by mergers
and acquisitions amid the country s market liberalization initiatives during the 1980s
and the absence of anti trust laws. By the end of 2010, three privately owned telecom
companies were dominant: PLDT/Smart, Globe Telecommunications, Inc., and
Digitel. With PLDT s
recent acquisition of majority shares in Digitel, the company now controls 70 percent
of the country s ICT sector.
To enter the ICT industry in the Philippines, companies must go through a two stage
process. First, they must obtain a congressional license that involves parliamentary
hearings and the approval of both the upper and lower houses. Second, they need to
apply for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the NTC.
The constitution limits foreign entities to only 40 percent ownership of a business to
be established in the country. Internet service is currently classified as a value added
service and is therefore subject to fewer regulatory requirements compared to mobile
and fixed phone services.
Pharmacy Vs Mail Order Pharmacy
A mail order pharmacy is a pharmacy that dispenses maintenance medications to
patients through the mail. Maintenance medications are medications that are taken on
an ongoing basis such as daily, weekly etc. for a chronic illness such as Diabetes,
High Blood Pressure, Chronic Asthma and others.
Mail order pharmacy is intended to not only lower cost but to also be more
convenient especially for those who are not able to go to a location to pick them up
but also for those who are not mobile. Mail order pharmacy differs from the others
because medications are sent directly to the customer home or facility they are
housed in saving them time and money.

Technicians also have the ability to rotate to different work areas every few hours if
desired. A disadvantage for some is the lack of contact with customers, there is more
data entry and the production is higher than that of a traditional retail pharmacy.
Hospital Pharmacy is located within the hospital most hospital pharmacies are
classified as institutional but older hospitals have one central inpatient pharmacy that
is responsible for supplying the entire hospital and all clinics. Hospital pharmacies
also have satellite and discharge pharmacies. A satellite pharmacy is a small
speciality pharmacy that supplies a clinic such as the emergency department or an
entire floor of the hospital.
A discharge pharmacy also known as an outpatient pharmacy fills prescriptions in the
same manner as a community pharmacy except it is inside the hospital. Hospital
pharmacies specialize in all intravenous antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs and large
volume parenteral

The Travel has more memories than the destination. The feeling of bonding and
interacting along the travel is the whole point of the travel. When we planned a
trip to Florida. We were discussing about about whether to fly or drive. The flight
would be much faster, but we wouldn t have much of a family experience Driving
would be more family oriented, but will add more than 7 hours to travel. We
decide to drive a motorhome. In my opinion, the drive was more memorable than
the actual trip. We played games, watched movies, and just bonded as a family. The
Buc cee s stops to get Icee s and snacks were amazing, obviously the trip was still
fun filled, but the trip in the motorhome was very memorable too. There for proving

Summary Of J. Smart s Extreme Vs. Restricted
Utilitarianism
J.J.C. Smart
Who is J.J.C. Smart and what does he teaches us about utilitarianism? However, after
reading Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that there s
two kinds of utilitarianism s. The first one is extreme utilitarianism. The second one
is restricted utilitarianism. However, in my opinion extreme utilitarianism is the right
act. In addition, Smart was the defender of extreme utilitarianism. These are mainly
what J.J.C. Smart talks about in his work. First and foremost, after reading Extreme
vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that these two kinds of
utilitarianism s are somewhat similar but not as much. First, he opens by separating
extreme and restricted utilitarianism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Extreme (ACT) utilitarianism follows rules of thumb and their guidelines.
In other words Smart states that rules of thumb promote particular actions that are
very important to people. In addition, according to Smart, rules of thumb can be
broken. These are all the interesting facts about rules of thumb and what they are and
what they mean. To wrap it all up, according to smart, the main difference between
extreme and restricted utilitarianism is that restricted utilitarians hold that conformity
to rules determines right action and extreme utilitarians do not. In addition,
according to extreme utilitarianism, if someone does a morally right action, then
they do not commit themselves to one version or another. On the other hand, smart
mentions moral rules and how they are rules of thumb; well what he means by that
is that rules of thumb are rules that can be useful but do not always tell us what we
should do. I will now talk about my opinion about both Restricted and Extreme
utilitarianism s. To me they are very much similar and there is a very little difference
between both theories. I say that because when it comes to both articles, at the end
they both promote the most utility for the majority. In other word they both go there
different way but at the end of the day they are both the same thing and not much of

The GROW Model Paper
Influence is our inner ability to lift people up to our perspectives. Joseph Wong
According to Health (2013), in order to effect change, coaches must influence their
clients to do things differently. One of the quickest and most effective techniques to
assist with this effort is the GROW model, i.e. Goals, Reality, Options, and Way
Forward. This paper will discuss the Goals and Reality aspects of this model through
preplanning, action, and reflection.
Preplanning
According to Alexander (2010), a topic must be agreed upon before goals can be set.
During my initial coaching session, revamping the indoctrination program was a
point of contention. According to The GROW model (2014), goals that are SMART

Coachee: It should not, but I will have to get back with you to see if there will be
any conflicts.
Coach: Sounds good, let us meet again next Tuesday to discuss further.
Coachee: Will do.
Reflection
The session went smoother than the initial one. I learned that revamping the
indoctrination program maybe a lengthy process. However, updating the schedule
could possibly be a good starting point for the timeline. I also was made aware of
the negative critiques received from the newcomers and a lack of familiarity with
departmental functions. Most importantly, I was made aware of the multiple tasks
the coachee is responsible for completing during this period. At this point, I would
not have done anything differently because I feel as if my objectives of effective two
way communication and coachee confidence were
Patriarchy Of Ephesians
Often times, when the term Head is used in a marriage, such as, the husband is the
head of the wife, it stimulates the perception of the husbands being the dominate
force in the relationship, having authority, control, and power. However, Apostle Paul
s message to the Ephesians was to institute structure within a close and intimate
union, or some form of social institution marking a commitment between individuals
to live as a family, which is recognized as a blueprint of Christ s love for the church.
That being said, there are three forms of social organization: A patriarchy, which the
father is the supreme authority. Matriarchy, is when the mother is the dominant
authority. Lastly, equalitarian family is one with shared control, with neither

Partial Seizures In Adolescents
Seizures occur in the body due to a deviation from normal electrical signaling.
There are two different classes of seizures. Generalized Grand Mal seizures differ
from partial seizures in that they, constitute 30% of seizures, involve neurons
bilaterally, often do not have a local (focal) onset, and usually originate from a
subcortical or deeper brainfocus (McCance and Huether, 551). These types of
seizures have a wide variety of onsets and affect both brain hemispheres, as opposed
to the more fine tuned, partial (focal) seizures. Partial seizures involve neurons
unilaterally, begin in a particular region of the brain (one hemisphere), have a local
onset, and can spread throughout the brain. In contrast to generalized seizures, in...

One of the most significant factors in the patient s recovery is family involvement
and support. Family acceptance and support can help a patient deal with issues the
patient may have during the rehab process. Positive attitudes and reinforcement
from loved ones often help the patient work towards recovery. Family contribution,
flexibility, and open communication can overcome various barriers. Families who
inspire hope can help the patient to adjust and become more confident in his or her

Social Darwinism In Mcteague
Social Darwinism is the social concept based on Charles Darwin s theory of natural
selection. It suggests that human social organization is based on the survival of
the fittest and that certain class and races dominate because they are biologically
superior. Frank Norris applies this theory to his novel, McTeague. Creating diverse
characters, he was able to showcase the different aspects of class and race to show
how some are more fit than others. Norris shows how people in certain social classes
either rise or fall based on their actions. Norris showed the two sides of Social
Darwinism when McTeague and Trina tried to change their social classand when Old
Grannis and Miss Baker searched for love instead of money. According to Social

Old Grannis and Miss Baker spent years living next to each other but not speaking
to one another. They spoke to each only a handful of times, becoming so
embarrassed by their interactions. Everyday, they would enjoy each other s

bind books, Miss Baker would sit by the wall and drink a cup of tea. They did not
try to force their love or look for money. Even when Old Grannis sold his book
binding machine, he still felt a void in his life. After many years of living next to
each other, they finally tried to fill their emptiness with love. Miss Baker made the
bold move of bringing Old Grannis a cup of tea during the time they would sit by
the wall. From the simple act of offering a cup of tea, they were able to realize that
they truly did love each other. Old Grannis and Miss Baker were able to survive in
society because they did not force their love. Frank Norris showed that Old

everyone else died. Frank Norris showed the varied effects of Social Darwinism in
society when the McTeagues died and when Old Grannis and Miss Baker were able

Pro Genetic Engineering
Science and technology throughout history have been the foundation of society.
Without it, the human race would still be in the prehistoric age. Successes in health
sciences helped in prolonging human life and to survive deadly diseases. Science and
technology are also the catalyst for multiple revolutions in human history. An
example is the industrial revolution. However, every success always comes with a
price. During the industrial revolution, cities became flooded with people causing
discomfort, the pollution became rampant, and social divide widened. Now that the
information age is in full blast with breakthroughs in science and technology
happening almost every day, humanity is on the verge of another scientific
revolution. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Advocates for the banning of the practice is saying that humanity is playing God,
and society fears that it is another form of eugenics. Their concern is not without
basis. History shows that society has tried to manipulate the gene pool to produce
better offspring, however, research in genetic engineering should continue and
society should support it because it could save millions of lives. According to the
United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, it is estimated that over 1000 to 4000
American children are born with mitochondrial diseases each year (Chappell).
Mitochondrial diseases range from Creatine Deficiency Syndrome, Leigh s
Disease, and Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency (United). Children with
such diseases are condemned to a life long suffering even before they were born.
However, science found a way to mitigate the problem in the form of mitochondrial
donation. It works by extracting mitochondrial DNA from a healthy female and
transplanting it to an infected DNA of another female. The procedure comes with
a risk, some of them are still unknown due to the infancy of the experiment
nevertheless, giving an infant a fighting chance in life than being doomed before
he or she reach his or her first birthday is a big benefit of the experiment. Genetic
engineering also helps mankind in its struggle for food sustainability. Multiple
country in Asia has rice as their staple food, and due to poverty, they can only
afford rice and other supplemental food. The result are children growing up
malnourished. As a response the International Rice Research Institute developed a
rice, with the help of genetic engineering that is infused with vitamin A. They
dubbed it Golden Rice . As Gary Toenniessen, a member of the Rockefeller
Foundation who is in support of the research says, It s a great product. And it s
beautiful! It looks just like saffron rice (qtd. in
Importance Of Astronomy In Mesoamerica
Astronomy, the branch of science which studies space, celestial objects, and the
physical universe as a whole, is the eldest of all natural sciences with the documented
history dating back to the beginning of ancient civilizations. The use of astronomy
originated in the Middle East as the theological foundation of their civilizations,
however, it quickly became common across many cultures in several continents
partially due to its wide range of interpretations and that the sky and specifically the
sunhave major implications on all beings regardless of location. One region where the
use of astronomy became particularly prominent was in Mesoamerica.
The observation of the sky was of immense importance to the civilizations of
Mesoamerica. Mesoamerica, the geographical region from northern Central America
to central modern day Mexico, was primarily comprised of three major civilizations:
the Olmecs, Aztecs, and the Mayans. The latter of whom had the most notable effect
in terms of astronomy, both during their existence and afterwards.
The Mayan people occupied the southern portion of Mesoamerica from 1800 BC to
1500 AD during which they grew into one of the most advanced civilizations,
constructing massive temples, pyramids, and sculptures centered around the central
theme of astronomy. The Mayans were the only pre Hispanic civilization in
Mesoamerica with a well developed culture, advanced written language, and
understanding of advanced architecture, mathematics, and
Destruction Of Mycenae Essay
There have been many suggestions and hypotheses to explain that the destruction
of the Mycenaean civilisation. This ranges from foreign invasion, civil war,
collapse in trade, drought and natural disasters. All of these could be possible
hypotheses as to why the Mycenaean civilisations fell, but none are certain as
there is not enough evidence to back these hypotheses up. Mycenae was a very
successful and powerful city. This would make it hard for the city to be brought
down and for everything to be forgotten. Foreign invasion is a plausible hypothesis
for the destruction of Mycenae. The theory is that there was a mass invasion by
outsiders known to the Egyptians as the sea people who invaded Egypt earlier as
well. The sea people could have invaded Mycenae and then settle in their land. This
is a plausible hypothesis except there is no evidence to back it up, as there have
been no foreign objects found in all of the ruins. This... Show more content on

The fact that the Mycenaean civilisation was such a strong and powerful

they are powerful and overwhelming. History shows a very strong cycle,
civilisations rise and fall. They do not stay forever. For a civilisation to be very
stable and last longer than the rest, their needs to be strict rules, guidelines and
consequences for people who do not follows these rules. To stop war crimes and
invasion of other cities their needs to be rules. A stable government is very important,
leaders need to be strong willed and committed. Civilisations without these things
would be very fragile, they would crumble within

What Is Critical Infrastructure
I believe that the uncertainty as to what is critical infrastructure and what do we
protect comes with our differences as people and what we as individuals believe is
important to support daily living and what isn t. Is it transportation, if so which
mode; air, rail, maritime? I think we can all agree these are critical, and protection
of these should be a priority. How important is the power grid? An Electromagnetic
Pulse is considered a real threat, but there has been little to no preventive protection
measures implemented. Experts say that chances we will experience a devastating
solar storm in the next 15 years (Foster, 2008). Another example I can provide of a
critical infrastructure there is not agreement on regarding the level of protection
The Middle Ages Essay
The Song of Roland is the Emblem of the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages was an era of invasions. It was a dark time in England and across
Europe. Where Islam was taking over, the crusades had to take action against that
and spread Christianity instead. Values and beliefs were driven from the church. On
the other hand, Feudalism, which stands for the power of the land was taking over.
All these incidents and more inspired the poets and writers to create literature that
expressed what was happening in the Middle Ages. One of these productions was the
Song of Roland it is one of the oldest epic poems that was written in France. In my
view the following points taken from this magnificent poem, focus on the values of
this era: church was spreading wrong conceptions against Islam in order to spread
Christianity; rules and values in society were imposed by the church, when people
where believers in god ; land owners are the most powerful in society, that lead to
feudalism; one of the knights merits is complying to orders; noble knights fight
alone when in need for help till the last breath; vicious sins like falsehood and
betrayal are dammed by the kingdom.
The Church was spreading wrong conceptions about Islam in order to spread
Christianity; The Song of Roland purposely draws negative images about the faith
of Islam and semi Muslims. And associated them with devils, in (laisse 78) Rain

Cornstarch Experiment
If an object is dropped into four compositions (100% water and 0% cornstarch, 75%
water and 25% cornstarch, 50% water and 50% cornstarch, and 25% water and 75%
cornstarch), then the 25% water and 75% cornstarch mixture will create the non
Newtonian fluid with the highest level of viscosity because the mixture is made of
particles of cornstarch suspended in water, therefore, the more particles there are, the
harder it will be to shear the fluid. Data that was measured from this experiment
supports the stated hypothesis. Trial one provided insight to the experiment. For the
control, the marble took 0.4 seconds to drop from the pen ramp and into the water.
The red composition (75% water and 25% cornstarch) took a total of 0.61 seconds,

Out of the trials of the experiment, the hypothesis was predicting that the control
would have the shortest time, the red composition (75% Water, 25% Corn starch)
would have the second shortest time, the yellow mixture (50% Water and 50%
Corn starch) would have the second longest time, and the blue fluid (25% Water
and 75% Corn starch) would have the longest time. In trial one, the results did not
behave in the predicted way because the red mixture took 0.05 seconds longer than
the yellow composition. Trials two and five behaved the way the hypothesis
predicted. Similarly to trial one, in trial four the red mixture took 0.11 seconds
longer than the yellow. Finally, trial three showed that the control took 0.07 seconds
longer than the red composition. Needless to say, the 25% water and 75% cornstarch
fluid did have the data with the most time because the marble did not submerge
within two minutes. Continuing on, when the data was averaged together, the results
became clear. The mean for the control was 0.42 seconds, the 75% Water and 25%
Cornstarch composition s average time was 0.47 seconds, and the 50% Water and
50% Cornstarch mixture s mean was 0.5 seconds (Appendix
Essay Cold Fusion
Cold Fusion: The Continuing Mystery
In March of 1989, a discovery was made that rocked the scientific world. Stanley Pons
and Martin Fleischman had announced that they were able to create and sustain a
cold fusion process. After intense media attention, and corresponding interest in
future test, the subject seemed to have faded away. Future tests proved inconclusive,
and when the quick promise of easy energy didn t materialize, most quickly forgot the
subject. Little is said about the continuing research in the scientific community to
further our understanding of the free energy enigma. Is it science fiction, on the border
of legitamete science, or is it a practical field worthy of serious attention?
Cold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cold fusion is only produced three out of ten times under the best conditions, but this
is enough to justify continued research. The first transitors were only successful one
out of a hundred times until the mechanisms were completely understood. The
science of the reaction taking place in cold fusion is still not clear. When pieces of
the puzzle begin to fit together better, the success rate will increase, and yields will
go up.
The actual set up of a cold fusion cell is an electrolyte such as hydrogen or
deuterium in which a electrode made of specially treated and prepared steel is
immersed. The lattice structure of the metal is filled with the hydrogen, where the
fusion occurs. The problem is most metals fracture when subjected to these
conditions. High loading is the state in which the metal survives, and begins to
produce energy. There are numerous different methods and materials that are used to
accomplish this goal. The original was a Heavy water solution with an electrolyte, in
which a current is passed between a palladium alloy electrode. Several other new
methods are in use today but the most promising is the Ceramic Proton Conductor. In
this case, a low current is passed through a strontium cerium oxide in deuterium
atmosphere. The reaction gives off significant excess energy.
Cold fusion differs significantly
The Views Of Abraham Lincoln
A more recent myth that has developed is the theory that Abraham Lincoln was
homosexual. This myth came to light in 1999 when Larry Kramer, the founding
member of the Gay Men s Health Crisis, made the statement that Lincoln was
homosexual and backed up his statement with diary excerpts from Lincoln s
bunkmate s Diary. The excerpts read: He often kisses me when I tease him, often
to shut me up... He would grab me in his long arms and hug and hug... our Abe is
like a school girl (Steers 126). Kramer also made a claim stating that John Wilkes
Booth may have killed Lincoln because Booth was virulently homophobic (Steers
125). The theory that Lincoln was gay was taken even further when Dr. C.A. Tripp,
Ph.D. released his book titled The Intimate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though another myth tends to render Tripp s invalid, this is the myth that Abraham
Lincoln was romantically attached to Anna Mayes Rutledge. This myth was one of
the best known myths about Lincoln s early life. (Steer 29). The story is that
Lincoln fell in love with Ann and the lovingly sent letters to each other. Ann s
cousin wrote in his diary I am so happy [because] now that Abe Lincoln and my
dearest [friend] Ann is an engaged couple... Abe and Ann are [awful] in love he
writes her letters (Steer 40). The myth of Ann Rutledge doesn t coinside with
Tripp s ideas that Lincoln is gay because if he was in love with Ann how could he
be in love with men. The mythology of Lincoln hasn t just happened in the world
of historians, media has also taken a shot at it. Steven Spielburg even came out
wish his own rendition of Lincoln with his 2012 movie Lincoln. Athough the
movie was perceived well in theaters it wasn t perceived as well with historians or
did it? The movie takes place during the beginning of 1865 (Mckernie). As Eric
Foner points out slavery died on the ground as well as in the House, due to abolition
efforts by feminist leaders like Susan B. Anthony, the Emancipation Proclamation,
and the actions of free blacks themselves (Coker), although missing those facts aren t
really a historical error, it just shows that those aren t the focus of the movie

The Importance Of Being A Manager During Times Of
Success...
Introduction:
The following Case Analysis details the many aspects of being a manager during
times of success and struggle. Ron Bent, a plant manager at Engstrom Auto Mirror
plant in Indiana, implements a bonus incentive plan in order to raise morale and
productivity in his company. The following analysis will demonstrate how at its
inception, the plan is successful in its goals, but eventually starts to decline when a
downturn hit the industry. In this paper, several recommendations will be made on
whether or not the Scanlon plan should be abandoned, and strategies Ron Bent can
take to increase performance at the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant.
Analysis: The Scanlon plan was introduced in the 1930 s by Joseph Scanlon, an
accountant and member of the Steelworkers union (2). The Scanlon plan that
Engstrom used focused on cost saving and higher production, which would then
increase labor savings. Adapting the plan is a long process, and Bent made sure 75%
of employees were on board. Engstroms version encouraged suggestions at all levels,
and encouraged input to help productivity. The plan focused on transparency of
financial and business data to all ranks of the organization (2). With transparency,
allowing suggestions, and an encouragement of new ideas, Bent believed that the
plan would provide a source of intrinsic motivation to employees of Engstrom. As
stated earlier, Bent ensured that at least 75% of his workforce agreed to the plan. By
doing so, he was examining the
Heterogeneous Ribonucleic Proteins ( Hnrnps )
Heterogeneous ribonucleic proteins (HNRNPs) are a family of RNA binding
proteins that play a key role in various metabolic functions of RNA. There are
roughly twenty major hnRNPs which are readily found in large quantities in the
nucleus and in some cases in the cytoplasm. hnRNPs are expressed throughout all
tissues at different levels depending on the hnRNP (Kamma et al. 1994). hnRNP
metabolic roles include polyadanilation, shuttling mRNA out of the nuclear envelope,
telomere biogenesis and localization. (Dreyfuss et al. 2002). In particular, hnRNP A1
can acts an an antagonist to the SF2/ASF protein, which allows A1 to inhibitor exon
splicing and cytoplasm bound transport of mRNA. An example of localization is
hnRNP A2, which confers the dendritic mRNA transport of various transcripts when
induced by neuronal activity (Muslimov et al. 2002).
Role of hnRNP A2/B1
Brain plasticity and learning such as BDNF driven long term synaptic potentiation
rely partly on the shuttling and translation of dendritic mRNAs. Large messenger
RNA binding proteins such as hnRNP A2/B1 carry inactive dendrite bound mRNA
via the microtubule cytoskeleton where they will be translated when they are
activated at the synapse (Leal et al. 2014). Brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF)
and increased neuronal activity has shown to regulate the distribution of A2/B1.
Particularly an increase in BDNF rises the tendency of cytoplasmic and and dendritic
localization. Some key protein transcripts carried by
Dental Implant Procedure
An Overview Of Two Procedures For Dental Implant Bone Augmentation
If you lost a tooth due to gum disease, trauma, or cavities, it can eventually cause
bone loss in the area of the missing tooth. This will make getting dental implants
complicated, because your jawbone will lack the proper amount of bone depth and
width required to support your new implant. When this happens, a dentist will need to
perform a bone augmentation procedure. It will help add stability to what will
eventually be the foundation for your dental implant and the false tooth that attaches
to it.
A dentist will recommend the best procedure for bone augmentation based on your
personal situation. Here is an overview of two procedures that your dentist will
choose from.

Descriptive Essay About Kahului Airport
As I leave for Oregon I enter the Kahului airport, a fairly familiar site as I ve been
here a number of times for various reasons. Once inside I head to my destination,
which isn t too hard to find. The airport is sparsely populated with people awaiting
their flights. On the way to my gate I come across a hot dogstand selling overpriced
hot dogs. With nothing else to eat I bought one for myself and one for each of my
brothers. Aside from each bite being a mouthful of onions, it was decent enough.
Maybe he d make more of a profit if he halved the amount of onions he used on each
hotdog. I sit at one of the seats that linethe aisles to eat my overpriced food. Beside
me my brothers sit and eat their own hotdogs, the seats across the aisle remain empty
much like most of the airport. The time comes to board the plane, the small space is
filled and we take off shortly after. Looking out the window all you can see is the
dark of night and the lights coming from the island. With a long flight ahead, I do
my best to rest while I can. Following a six hour flight from Maui I arrive in San
Francisco. I step off the plane and am greeted by a sea of people and an airport
much larger than the one in Kahului. The much more calm feeling of the island is
replaced by the hustle and bustle of the much larger city, quite honestly it s a tad
strange. There was not a moment s rest for these people as they hurried along from
one gate to the next. There s no order in the way people walk, sometimes

Problem 10 9: NPVs and IRRs for Mutually Exclusive Projects
Davis Industries must choose between a gas powered and an electric powered
forklift truck for moving materials in its factory. Since both forklifts perform the
same function, the firm will choose only one. (They are mutually exclusive
investments.) The electric powered truck will cost more, but it will be less
expensive to operate; it will cost $22,000, whereas the gas powered truck will cost
$17,500. The cost of capital that applies to both investments is 12%. The life for
both types of truck is estimated to be 6 years, during which time the net cash flows
for the electric powered truck will be $6,290 per year and those for the gas
powered truck will be $5,000 per year. Annual net cash flows include depreciation
expenses. Calculate the NPV and IRR for each type of truck, and decide which to
recommend.
PV (electric powered) = $22,000
PV (gas powered) = $17,500
Cost of capital = 12%
Number of years = 6
NCF for electric powered = $6,290
NCF for gas powered = $5,000
Electric powered forklift:
NPV = $22,000 + $6,290 [(1/i) (1/(i*(1+i)n)]
NPV = $22,000 + $6,290 [(1/0.12) (1/(0.12*(1+0.12)6)]
NPV = $22,000 + $6,290(4.1114) = $22,000 + $25,861 = $3,861
IRR =rate (nper,pmt,pv,fv) = rate (6,6290, 22000,0) = 18%
Gas powered forklift:
NPV = $17,500 + $5,000 [(1/i) (1/(i*(1+i)n)]
NPV = $17,500 + $5,000 [(1/0.12) (1/(0.12*(1+0.12)6)]

The Airport Caribou
It s Friday morning, Lindsay and I are sitting on the barstools of the airport
caribou. Lindsay is arguing to me about who JoJo is going to pick for the bachelor.
I honestly just think it s a dumb show. A few minutes later the airports
announcements let us know we can board our plane, Lindsay is still pretty heated
so I switch spots and have Logan sit by Lindsay and I sit by Gianni. Gianni is my
boyfriend, we ve been dating for almost a year now so I m pretty excited for this
trip. On the flight website it said the flight was about 1 hour but I disagree. A
couple minutes later when the plane took off, I look over at Lindsay and Logan and
they look like they re really into each other.

We then got some really really good funnel cakes, then left to go back to the hotel.
Mrs. Anderson is Lindsay s mom so Mrs. Anderson walked us into our room and

Okay, we yell through the door.
I quick do my makeup and put my clothes on. Lindsay slips her shoes on and we

Subway Propaganda
People have used propaganda, in many forms, to convince people into believing in
their message for various reasons. One example is Subway s advertisements and
commercials. Subway is known for allowing customers to choose what goes on
their sandwiches from their selection of bread, meats, cheese, and vegetables. In
several of Subway s commercials, one of their employees is making a sandwich for
a customer. During these commercials, the customer or employee always
emphasizes how Subway s sandwiches are made fresh every day, and then their
commercials end with their widely known slogan, Subway, eat fresh. In these
commercials, Subway keeps mentioning the use of fresh ingredients in their
commercials and even putting the word fresh in their own slogan. As a result,
Subway has millions of people that believe Subway s food is actually fresh. But
according to Subway s ingredient list, the restaurant uses preservatives to make the
product last longer. Subway is one of many fast food chains that use propagandain
order to make people believe that their restaurant s food is fresh.... Show more content

Home Inequalities In Public Schools
When the Home Hurts the Schooled: The Inequalities in Public School Education
The education system in America is stained by racial and structural inequalities that
cause those in lower income areas to not receive the necessary resources that enable a
student to thrive. These benefits are as simple as certified teachers (Turner),
maintained classrooms, and even accredited school districts. The common
denominator in the lack of basic expectations is the type of funding public schools
receive. The federal government gives about 10 percent of the money schools have
to spend (Turner), while the state and mainly local dollars have to provide the rest.
When the majority of a school s funding is produced using the local region s property
taxes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1926, U.S Supreme Court decision, Corrigan v. Buckley, validated the use of
restrictive covenants, a legally enforceable contract imposed in a deed upon the
buyer of property ( 1920s 1948: Racially Restrictive Covenants ). These covenants
were typically used to permit the denial of ownership to a black family. Covenants,
neighborhood groups, and other types of legislative or physical interference, froze
efforts to integrate, forcing black families to live in inadequate housing conditions at
absurdly high prices.
After racially restrictive covenants and Federal Housing Administration practices
were deemed racist and immoral, the damage was already done. Black families
living in previously marked red zones could not afford to move out of their
segregated and underdeveloped neighborhoods. The public schools in these districts
suffered as well because of the decreasing values of the properties and the high
concentration of low income residents. Necessary educational resources in these
areas dwindle and, as a result, academic score gaps widen, the dropout rate increases
and children fail to find reasons to
Essay about Our Nation Needs Vouchers and School Choice
The Nation Needs School Vouchers
Let s face it public schools are failing. SAT scores have steadily declined since
1960. Results from other tests of public high school seniors conducted by
independent research groups show a serious decline in the quality of public education
over the last several decades. A national vouchersystem would be a good start at
restoring competition and parental choice in education.
Accompanying the steady decline in the quality of education has been a significant
increase in the cost of public schools. Spending per student in public schools has
increased over 400% in real terms since WWII. Much of the spending increase has
gone to finance a bloated, costly administrative bureaucracy, not ... Show more

And despite increasing public pressure for some type of educational reform to restore
competition, public school educators have almost unanimously opposed school choice
and vouchers. Because they currently enjoy a protected position by being insulated
from competition in education, teachers also have an incentive NOT to teach
students to think clearly about educational choice. Teaching students to appreciate
and understand the role of competitive, market forces would undermine an agenda of
increased funding of public education. If students and parents were taught to
appreciate the principles free markets and competition, they would become
increasingly intolerant of inefficient, statist bureaucracies and would demand
competition and choice in education.
A voucher program for The United States would reintroduce the competitive market
forces that have been missing in education for so many generations. Vouchers could
dramatically improve the quality of education in The United States in many ways.
Parents would be given more choices on where to send their children to school.
Public schools would be forced to compete for students with private schools, which
would make public schools more responsive to their customers. We could expect more
innovation in the types and number of different educational programs offered.
Vouchers would also take power away from the educators and put it back in the
hands of the people to whom it belongs
Summary Of Helena Maria ViramontesUnder The Feet Of
Jesus
In the passage from Under the Feet of Jesus , Helena Maria Viramontes utilizes
elements such as figurative language and selection of detail to document and
analyze the development of Estrella s character throughout the text. The perplexity
and distress she feels in school is evident until she matures by the end of the
excerpt demonstrating her newly acquired potential and confidence. These
elements demonstrate how an impoverished immigrant like Estrella learns and
realizes to understand critical, essential aspects and use this to rise above her
struggles and be up to par to the teacher s expectations who deemed her unworthy.
Her relationship with Perfecto Flores and his toolbox helps to guide her to
acknowledge the everlasting and infinite value of education and its significance.
Viramontes uses figurative language to compare Estrella s confused and frustrated
expression when she sees things that she doesn t understand or know what they are.
She compares the tools and obscure shaped objects from a toolbox to a foreign
language that one does not understand to emphasize the difficulty that Estrella faces
when she comes into contact with these tools with a regular person who comes into
a language that is not native to their own. As the text progresses, she meets Perfecto
Flores who enlightens and educates her on the names and purposes of these tools
which proves to be a pivotal point for Estrella who feels as if she just developed her
own language or alphabet . Viramontes

  • 1. Short Story Essays Crafting an essay on the theme of "Short Story Essays" poses a unique set of challenges that require a delicate balance of creativity, analytical skills, and literary prowess. The difficulty lies not only in the need to showcase a profound understanding of short stories but also in the ability to weave a compelling narrative within the constraints of an essay format. To begin with, one must delve into the world of short stories, understanding their nuanced structures, character developments, and thematic elements. Analyzing the intricate details of various short stories, selecting the most suitable ones for discussion, and extracting meaningful insights demand a meticulous approach. Balancing brevity with depth becomes a constant struggle, as the concise nature of short stories challenges the writer to convey rich meanings within a limited word count. Moreover, the process involves navigating through the complexities of literary analysis. Articulating the author's intentions, unraveling symbolism, and exploring the impact of narrative techniques require a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the subtleties of storytelling. Crafting a coherent and insightful argument demands an understanding of the broader literary context and the ability to connect disparate elements into a cohesive narrative. Beyond the intellectual challenges, there's the creative aspect. Developing a compelling thesis statement and constructing an engaging introduction that captivates the reader's attention become crucial. • 2. The Kingship Of Odysseus Odysseus s love for Penelope has not been changed even though he spends almost eight years with goddesses. When Odysseus meet his mother in the House of Death, he asks her about his family and royal rights. His shows the values of kingship for him as he says, do my royal rights still lie in their safekeeping? (XI.269). So let s look to the feeling of kingship that is internalized within him due to a period of hardship. Odysseus, being the king of his homeland, possesses remarkable leadership abilities. In Greek system, king is known as ОІО±ПѓО№О»ОµПЌП‚ and has the power to lead the people of his country. For instance, Odysseus appears as a leader when he goes alone to free his shipmates from Circe s palace by keeping the companions in the ship even though Eurylochus warns him that Circe is dangerous and there is no chance for him to return from her. He does not depend on his shipmates to take any decision from which he is an independent man. Thus, Odysseus considers himself a heroic king who takes care of his people and always leads and protects them. Odysseus would get the honor of a king only in Ithaca. Although Calypso could provide everything to Odysseus, she could only fulfill his materialistic demands at best. But Odysseus always thinks to rule over the citizens of his nation. If Odysseus had married Calypso, that island would have been his land. Even though Odysseus would be immortal and even he would have power after marriage, his power would still be less than that of
  • 3. Media s Influence On Society s Emotions And Opinions Media has continuously manipulated and defined society s emotions and opinions. In the United States, media emerged as a dominant social figure in the 19th century (Thomson Lee). Since then, media has serviced the purpose of providing the audience with real time information on issues and news surrounding local, national and international events. Whether it is written, broadcast, or spoken communication has become the key to the members of society. In fact, daily life relies heavily on the information provided by media. While being exposed to a lot of information may be positive, it can also cause an overload of negative repercussion on people and society. Many experts agree that media is dominated by images that negatively impact the way society take actions in their day to day life. The media has also generated a set of tools that can be used dramatically to improve organizational performance. It has contributed to political leaders worldwide by identifying, and reflecting their ideas through the mass communication epidemic. The article Broadcasting Populist Leadership: Hugo ChГЎvez and AlГі Presidente was written by Eduardo Frajman and published in the Journal of Latin America in August 2014. During the political period of Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez (1999 2013), used a broadcasting strategy to create a movement by airing a TV show called AlГі Presidente. One of the populist strategies used by political candidates in Latin America was through mass media. The

  • 7. Public Interest Groups According to Lenz Holman, public policy refers to governmental programs, rules, and courses of action (2013). Public policy comes about through 6 stages: problem recognition, agenda setting, policy formulation, policy adoption, policy implementation, and policy evaluation (Lenz Holman, 2013). Public interest groups have a great influence on formulating public policy, and implementing their personal agendas. They do this through lobbying. Lobbyist create networks with members of Congress, who then create public policy that benefits the interests of their group or organization. How are public issues identified? Individuals, interest groups, and public officials identify public issues. Some public issues are very apparent. For those issues that are not so well accepted, public interest groups are formed in order to raise awareness (Lenz Holman, 2013). These groups greatly influence what policies are made with in the United States. Interest groups compete against each other in order to promote their own views, and either pass public policy or change it (Gabel Scott, 2011). Interest groups that can get executive officials to support their cause will have an even greater influence on public opinion. All of these factors go into deciding what policy will be the solution to the current public

Essay about Those Winter Sundays Those Winter Sundays Robert Hayden s, Those Winter Sundays , is a poem of a son s regret over his inability to honor and appreciate his father during the course of his upbringing. It uses one event to describe a father and son s entire relationship. Actually, Those Winter Sundays is a poem written for Robert Hayden s father. Although at first the poem does not seem to be a great tribute to his father, Hayden s admiration and love for his father breaks through the lines. In the poem, Hayden uses many descriptive words to set the scene for his work. His vivid words help me to imagine how hard his father worked and sacrificed for his family. When Hayden writes cracked hands that ached , he is using the cracked hands as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of chronic angers is introduced into the calm scene of the home in the early morning. It seems as though the father was a harsh man who scared his children but deep down he loved them very much. The chronic angers was what made the children not realize his love. It was clear in Hayden s writing that anger was a constant in the home; just as much a part of the mornings as the fire itself. With the presence of anger in the home, Hayden implies that he had a poor relationship with his father, although it may have been self protective, but ungrateful. At the end of the poem, Hayden describes what he discovered looking back on those mornings, What did I know, what did I know of love s austere and lonely offices . The repetition of What did I know adds emphasis to this thought, like Hayden is full of regret, wishing he had known, and had thanked his father for what he had accomplished for his family. The words austere and lonely also carry a lot of meaning that can be interpreted as a lack of caring, as well as the father s harsh treatment of his children. As he grew up, Hayden realized that his father was totally self sacrificing. His father took no thought for his own comfort. As a child Hayden doubted his father s love, but as he grew older he realized that love is often expressed silently and indirectly by actions and not words. In the end, Hayden finally

Making a Connection in The Crying of Lot 49 For as long as I could read comprehensively, I have always believed that great writing centered around well written stories that would both provide a certain measure of unaffected pleasure, as well as challenge the readers perception of the world at large; both within and outside of the sphere of its prose. Thomas Pynchons The Crying of Lot 49 encompasses both of those requirements; by enfolding his readers, through a variety of means, within the intricate workings of his narrative. It centers around would be heroine Oedipa Maas, a practical but somewhat restless woman, who s life is turned upside down when she discovers that she has been made executor of the estate of old ... Like Pynchons reader s, Oedipa is forced to either work toward interpreting the trail of seemingly indecipherable clues being tossed in her wake or forgo it all and walk away in bewilderment. Like the reader by deciding to go on, however aimlessly, she is forcibly drawn out of the complacency of her own existence; into a chaotic system of intrigue that reaches far beyond her normal scope of understanding. There is still a pretty good chance that the natives will leave the government alone for a while. After the years of complaining and fighting, the natives got what they want. Hopefully they ll be happy with what the government gave them and not fight for any more rights, because they have enough already. As mentioned in the first paragraph, giving the natives their own government would cause the government of Canada to lose a lot of money that can be used for other useful needs, such as spending the money on something more useful, such as education, which there isn t enough spent on. Maybe the government could even think about putting some more money into health care and give the less fortunate people a chance to receive medical help when needed instead of them not wanting to go a physician because of the amount of money needed to attend one. One of the most significant factors in the patient s recovery is family involvement and support. Family acceptance and support can help a patient deal with issues the patient may have during the rehab process. Positive attitudes and reinforcement from loved ones often help the patient work towards recovery. Family contribution, flexibility, and open communication can overcome various barriers. Families who inspire hope can help the patient to adjust and become more confident in his or her own abilities. Finally, family and friends can also offer practical support, such as rides to the doctor or pharmacy, going to the grocery store, and offering to babysit during health care visits. The encouragement of family and friends can motivate people who have been having difficulties in their rehabilitation to take steps to be more active and get back to work more quickly than those who do not have a strong support

It suggests that human social organization is based on the survival of the fittest and that certain class and races dominate because they are biologically superior. Frank Norris applies this theory to his novel, McTeague. Creating diverse characters, he was able to showcase the different aspects of class and race to show how some are more fit than others. Norris shows how people in certain social classes either rise or fall based on their actions. When Old Grannis would bind books, Miss Baker would sit by the wall and drink a cup of tea. They did not try to force their love or look for money. Even when Old Grannis sold his book binding machine, he still felt a void in his life. After many years of living next to each other, they finally tried to fill their emptiness with love. Miss Baker made the bold move of bringing Old Grannis a cup of tea during the time they would sit by the wall. From the simple act of offering a cup of tea, they were able to realize that they truly did love each other. Successes in health sciences helped in prolonging human life and to survive deadly diseases. Science and technology are also the catalyst for multiple revolutions in human history. An example is the industrial revolution. However, every success always comes with a price. During the industrial revolution, cities became flooded with people causing discomfort, the pollution became rampant, and social divide widened. Now that the information age is in full blast with breakthroughs in science and technology happening almost every day, humanity is on the verge of another scientific revolution. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Advocates for the banning of the practice is saying that humanity is playing God, and society fears that it is another form of eugenics. Their concern is not without basis. History shows that society has tried to manipulate the gene pool to produce better offspring, however, research in genetic engineering should continue and society should support it because it could save millions of lives. According to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, it is estimated that over 1000 to 4000 American children are born with mitochondrial diseases each year (Chappell). Mitochondrial diseases range from Creatine Deficiency Syndrome, Leigh s Disease, and Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency (United). Children with such diseases are condemned to a life long suffering even before they were born. However, science found a way to mitigate the problem in the form of mitochondrial donation. It works by extracting mitochondrial DNA from a healthy female and transplanting it to an infected DNA of another female. The procedure comes with a risk, some of them are still unknown due to the infancy of the experiment nevertheless, giving an infant a fighting chance in life than being doomed before he or she reach his or her first birthday is a big benefit of the experiment. Genetic engineering also helps mankind in its struggle for food sustainability. Multiple country in Asia has rice as their staple food, and due to poverty, they can only afford rice and other supplemental food. The result are children growing up malnourished. As a response the International Rice Research Institute developed a rice, with the help of genetic engineering that is infused with vitamin A. They dubbed it Golden Rice . As Gary Toenniessen, a member of the Rockefeller Foundation who is in support of the research says, It s a great product. And it s beautiful! It looks just like saffron rice (qtd. in

Importance Of Astronomy In Mesoamerica Astronomy, the branch of science which studies space, celestial objects, and the physical universe as a whole, is the eldest of all natural sciences with the documented history dating back to the beginning of ancient civilizations. The use of astronomy originated in the Middle East as the theological foundation of their civilizations, however, it quickly became common across many cultures in several continents partially due to its wide range of interpretations and that the sky and specifically the sunhave major implications on all beings regardless of location. One region where the use of astronomy became particularly prominent was in Mesoamerica. The observation of the sky was of immense importance to the civilizations of Mesoamerica. Mesoamerica, the geographical region from northern Central America to central modern day Mexico, was primarily comprised of three major civilizations: the Olmecs, Aztecs, and the Mayans. The latter of whom had the most notable effect in terms of astronomy, both during their existence and afterwards. The Mayan people occupied the southern portion of Mesoamerica from 1800 BC to 1500 AD during which they grew into one of the most advanced civilizations, constructing massive temples, pyramids, and sculptures centered around the central theme of astronomy. The Mayans were the only pre Hispanic civilization in Mesoamerica with a well developed culture, advanced written language, and understanding of advanced architecture, mathematics, and

Mycenae was a very successful and powerful city. This would make it hard for the city to be brought down and for everything to be forgotten. Foreign invasion is a plausible hypothesis for the destruction of Mycenae. The theory is that there was a mass invasion by outsiders known to the Egyptians as the sea people who invaded Egypt earlier as well. Where Islam was taking over, the crusades had to take action against that and spread Christianity instead. Values and beliefs were driven from the church. On the other hand, Feudalism, which stands for the power of the land was taking over. All these incidents and more inspired the poets and writers to create literature that expressed what was happening in the Middle Ages. One of these productions was the Song of Roland it is one of the oldest epic poems that was written in France. In my view the following points taken from this magnificent poem, focus on the values of this era: church was spreading wrong conceptions against Islam in order to spread Christianity; rules and values in society were imposed by the church, when people where believers in god ; land owners are the most powerful in society, that lead to feudalism; one of the knights merits is complying to orders; noble knights fight alone when in need for help till the last breath; vicious sins like falsehood and betrayal are dammed by the kingdom. Cold fusion is only produced three out of ten times under the best conditions, but this is enough to justify continued research. The first transitors were only successful one out of a hundred times until the mechanisms were completely understood. The science of the reaction taking place in cold fusion is still not clear. When pieces of the puzzle begin to fit together better, the success rate will increase, and yields will go up. The actual set up of a cold fusion cell is an electrolyte such as hydrogen or deuterium in which a electrode made of specially treated and prepared steel is immersed. The lattice structure of the metal is filled with the hydrogen, where the fusion occurs. The problem is most metals fracture when subjected to these conditions. High loading is the state in which the metal survives, and begins to produce energy. There are numerous different methods and materials that are used to accomplish this goal. The original was a Heavy water solution with an electrolyte, in which a current is passed between a palladium alloy electrode. Several other new methods are in use today but the most promising is the Ceramic Proton Conductor. In this case, a low current is passed through a strontium cerium oxide in deuterium atmosphere. The reaction gives off significant excess energy. Cold fusion differs significantly

Ron Bent, a plant manager at Engstrom Auto Mirror plant in Indiana, implements a bonus incentive plan in order to raise morale and productivity in his company. The following analysis will demonstrate how at its inception, the plan is successful in its goals, but eventually starts to decline when a downturn hit the industry. In this paper, several recommendations will be made on whether or not the Scanlon plan should be abandoned, and strategies Ron Bent can take to increase performance at the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant. Analysis: The Scanlon plan was introduced in the 1930 s by Joseph Scanlon, an accountant and member of the Steelworkers union (2). The Scanlon plan that Engstrom used focused on cost saving and higher production, which would then increase labor savings. Adapting the plan is a long process, and Bent made sure 75% of employees were on board. Engstroms version encouraged suggestions at all levels, and encouraged input to help productivity. The plan focused on transparency of financial and business data to all ranks of the organization (2). With transparency, allowing suggestions, and an encouragement of new ideas, Bent believed that the plan would provide a source of intrinsic motivation to employees of Engstrom. As stated earlier, Bent ensured that at least 75% of his workforce agreed to the plan. By doing so, he was examining the
  • 47. Heterogeneous Ribonucleic Proteins ( Hnrnps ) Heterogeneous ribonucleic proteins (HNRNPs) are a family of RNA binding proteins that play a key role in various metabolic functions of RNA. There are roughly twenty major hnRNPs which are readily found in large quantities in the nucleus and in some cases in the cytoplasm. hnRNPs are expressed throughout all tissues at different levels depending on the hnRNP (Kamma et al. 1994). hnRNP metabolic roles include polyadanilation, shuttling mRNA out of the nuclear envelope, telomere biogenesis and localization. (Dreyfuss et al. 2002). In particular, hnRNP A1 can acts an an antagonist to the SF2/ASF protein, which allows A1 to inhibitor exon splicing and cytoplasm bound transport of mRNA. An example of localization is hnRNP A2, which confers the dendritic mRNA transport of various transcripts when induced by neuronal activity (Muslimov et al. 2002). Role of hnRNP A2/B1 Brain plasticity and learning such as BDNF driven long term synaptic potentiation rely partly on the shuttling and translation of dendritic mRNAs. Large messenger RNA binding proteins such as hnRNP A2/B1 carry inactive dendrite bound mRNA via the microtubule cytoskeleton where they will be translated when they are activated at the synapse (Leal et al. 2014). Brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF) and increased neuronal activity has shown to regulate the distribution of A2/B1. Particularly an increase in BDNF rises the tendency of cytoplasmic and and dendritic localization. Some key protein transcripts carried by

Home Inequalities In Public Schools When the Home Hurts the Schooled: The Inequalities in Public School Education The education system in America is stained by racial and structural inequalities that cause those in lower income areas to not receive the necessary resources that enable a student to thrive. These benefits are as simple as certified teachers (Turner), maintained classrooms, and even accredited school districts. The common denominator in the lack of basic expectations is the type of funding public schools receive. The federal government gives about 10 percent of the money schools have to spend (Turner), while the state and mainly local dollars have to provide the rest. When the majority of a school s funding is produced using the local region s property taxes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1926, U.S Supreme Court decision, Corrigan v. Buckley, validated the use of restrictive covenants, a legally enforceable contract imposed in a deed upon the buyer of property ( 1920s 1948: Racially Restrictive Covenants ). These covenants were typically used to permit the denial of ownership to a black family. Covenants, neighborhood groups, and other types of legislative or physical interference, froze efforts to integrate, forcing black families to live in inadequate housing conditions at absurdly high prices. After racially restrictive covenants and Federal Housing Administration practices were deemed racist and immoral, the damage was already done. Black families living in previously marked red zones could not afford to move out of their segregated and underdeveloped neighborhoods. The public schools in these districts suffered as well because of the decreasing values of the properties and the high concentration of low income residents. Necessary educational resources in these areas dwindle and, as a result, academic score gaps widen, the dropout rate increases and children fail to find reasons to

And despite increasing public pressure for some type of educational reform to restore competition, public school educators have almost unanimously opposed school choice and vouchers. Because they currently enjoy a protected position by being insulated from competition in education, teachers also have an incentive NOT to teach students to think clearly about educational choice. Teaching students to appreciate and understand the role of competitive, market forces would undermine an agenda of increased funding of public education. If students and parents were taught to appreciate the principles free markets and competition, they would become increasingly intolerant of inefficient, statist bureaucracies and would demand competition and choice in education. A voucher program for The United States would reintroduce the competitive market forces that have been missing in education for so many generations. Vouchers could dramatically improve the quality of education in The United States in many ways. Parents would be given more choices on where to send their children to school. Public schools would be forced to compete for students with private schools, which would make public schools more responsive to their customers. We could expect more innovation in the types and number of different educational programs offered. Vouchers would also take power away from the educators and put it back in the hands of the people to whom it belongs

Summary Of Helena Maria ViramontesUnder The Feet Of Jesus In the passage from Under the Feet of Jesus , Helena Maria Viramontes utilizes elements such as figurative language and selection of detail to document and analyze the development of Estrella s character throughout the text. The perplexity and distress she feels in school is evident until she matures by the end of the excerpt demonstrating her newly acquired potential and confidence. These elements demonstrate how an impoverished immigrant like Estrella learns and realizes to understand critical, essential aspects and use this to rise above her struggles and be up to par to the teacher s expectations who deemed her unworthy. Her relationship with Perfecto Flores and his toolbox helps to guide her to acknowledge the everlasting and infinite value of education and its significance. Viramontes uses figurative language to compare Estrella s confused and frustrated expression when she sees things that she doesn t understand or know what they are. She compares the tools and obscure shaped objects from a toolbox to a foreign language that one does not understand to emphasize the difficulty that Estrella faces when she comes into contact with these tools with a regular person who comes into a language that is not native to their own. As the text progresses, she meets Perfecto Flores who enlightens and educates her on the names and purposes of these tools which proves to be a pivotal point for Estrella who feels as if she just developed her own language or alphabet .
