Crafting an essay on the subject of "Short Essays To Read" presents a unique set of challenges.
The inherent paradox lies in encapsulating profound ideas within a concise format, navigating
the delicate balance between brevity and depth. The challenge is not merely in selecting
compelling topics, but in distilling their essence into a condensed form that captivates the
reader's attention while delivering a meaningful message.
The writer must grapple with the paradox of being expansive in thought yet limited in word
count, a task that demands a heightened sense of precision and eloquence. Each word becomes a
brushstroke, contributing to the overall canvas of the essay. Decisions regarding what to include
and what to omit become critical, as the essay must remain succinct without sacrificing
substance.
Furthermore, the challenge extends beyond content creation to the structural intricacies of a
short essay. Crafting a coherent introduction that grabs the reader's interest, developing a
concise yet comprehensive body, and delivering a impactful conclusion—all within a confined
space—require a deft hand.
Moreover, the process of researching suitable material for such essays can be intricate.
Identifying pieces that are both insightful and compact becomes a task akin to finding diamonds
in a literary minefield. The writer must curate a selection that not only aligns with the theme but
also complements each other, creating a harmonious symphony of ideas.

2. The Role Of Child Labor In The Fashion Industry
Factory workers in the fashion industry are being treated unethically; many big
clothing brands are employing women and children to do the work in those factories.
Children throughout the world are being unfairly treated in the textile industry; this
in turn is pulling the children out of school and forever ruining their chances of a
good education and good jobs in the future and endangering them in these factories.
Child labouris illegal yet it continues to happen in many countries around the world.
Child labour is defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their
potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development
(Ilo.org, 2015). Some of the countries that Child labour is happening in include...

There are children who have to join the labour force to satisfy the demand for
cheap and unskilled labour. The children also have the certain physical attributes
that factories are looking for, these include small in stature and they are agile.
Children are also joining because of the low adult wages their parents are earning.
Poverty is an important push factor leading to the supply for child labourers. In the
majority of the cases adult workers are earning very little and their wages are not
meeting their family s income. There is a clear link between child labour and low
wages for adults, these links are both in the agriculture aspect and the garment
factories. As a result they will most of the time be hired in preference to adults
(Overeem, 2015). If child labour was to be banned around the world labour would
become scarcer then it already is. This would then allow more adult workers to
negotiate a better wage and then it would in turn improve the labour conditions.
People around the world should be doing more to stop child labour. The United
Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) has been given the formal
consent by almost all of the countries in the world, with the exceptions of the USA,
Somalia and South Sudan. This rights document says that work under particularly
difficult conditions such as work for long hours during the nights or work where the
child is unreasonably
3. The Relationship Between Troilus And Criseyde
The relationship between Troilus and Criseyde in Geoffrey Chaucer s adaptation
of their tragic love story notably hinges on the perception of Troilus s manhod. The
interpretation of Troilus as a feminized male character, and the consequent view
that he was not manly enough to keep Criseyde as his lover, exemplifies the
importance Chaucer places on gender roles in the poem. Troilus s passive nature, as
a result of his lovesickness, led to his failure to obey the normative masculine
patterns of behavior. His lack of action is ultimately the reason why his relationship
with Criseyde fails. While we know the tragic ending to their story is inevitable,
Chaucer s Troilus and Criseydepresents gender as a central cause for its ending. In the
first portrait of Troilus, Chaucer presents us with a manly young knight at ease with
his respectable and authoritative position:
This Troilus, as he was wont to gide
His yonge knyghtes, lad hem up and down
In thilke large temple on every side,
Beholding ay the ladies of the town,
Now here, now there; for no devocioun
Hadde he to non, to reven hym his reste,
But gan to preise and lakken whom hym leste (I. 183 189)
Troilus is represented here as a strong leader. He guides the knights through the
temple and gazes at the ladies of the town as he pleases. He mocks the other knights
who foolishly fall in love; Troilus is above that type of behavior. After the God of
Love shoots him with his arrow, Troilus becomes smitten with Criseyde in one
4. How The Utilities Industry Changed The Us And Gis Essay
12/12/2016
Utilities in the US and GIS
GIS is critical to the utilities industry in the US. It allows them to perform mundane
tasks that they are required to perform with new levels of ROI (return on
investment), safety, and man hour efficiency. It also allows them to save the
taxpayer a substantial sum of money yearly, and also the ability to remain profitable
while billing for less. In this paper, I will first discuss some of the basic ways that
the utilities industry in the US is using GIS to achieving all of these things, then into
each part of the electrical utilities industry and then delve into some of the more
technical items used by the industry and their function within the industry as a whole.
Geography, as defined in the Cambridge dictionary is the study of features and
systems of the earth s surface, including continents, mountains, seas, weather, and
plant life, and of the ways in which countries and people organize life within an area.
(3) Therefore, I think it is important to define the history of electricity to give
perspective, and its physical properties on a smaller scale to help understand larger
concepts from a power engineering perspective. Unfortunately, there is a lot of
relevant information to cover before GIS is brought into fruition.
Electricity had always been in a rather elementary and simple form of static
electricity, until people discovered we could harness its properties to conduct work,
light spaces and various other uses.
5. Uses Of Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
The small population of Holcomb, Kansas was struck with tragedy when the Clutter
family was brutally murdered in their home by two unknown suspects. Capote wrote
the first ever non fiction novel, In Cold Blood. Truman Capote tells a timeline of
events as he learned them, from before, during, and after the killings of the Clutter
family by using imagery, foreshadowing, and pathos to continue the plot and to make
it more interesting to the reader.
One of the most noticeable rhetorical devices used throughout In Cold Blood was
Capote s use of imagery. An example of Imagery being used in this novel was
Capote s description of the weather at the time in Holcomb. Capote called apple
eating weather because the ... whitest sunset descended from the purest sky, and an
easterly wind rustled, without ripping loose, the last of the leaves on that the
Chinese elms. (10) This in depth description of the weather was added to give the
reader a good idea of what time of the year it was to give the reader a better and
more detailed mental picture of Holcomb at the time of the murders. Also noticed
in Capote s novel was very descriptive would be Capote s description of the Clutter
crime scene. Capote describes the scene in Nancy Clutter s room where she was
found, stating, She was lying on her side, facing the wall, and the wall was covered
with blood. The bedcovers were drawn up to her shoulders. (62) Another description
of the crime scene was how Kenyon was found, Capote stated,
6. Muddy Waters Research Paper
In this essay I will be discussing about Muddy Waters and the Chicago blues. Muddy
Waters, also known as McKinley Morganfield which was in fact his actual birth
name, was born on April the fourth 1915 and sadly passed away April the thirtieth,
1983. Muddy Waters, was greatly known as an American blues musician and guitarist.
The Chicago bluesis a form of blues music in Chicago, I will be discussing more in
detail about the Chicago blues within my essay.
Muddy, grew up in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He was given the name Muddy Waters,
because when he was a child he would always play in the muddy swamps of the
rivers in Mississippi. His Father, Ollie Morganfield worked as a farmer and was
also a blues guitar player, however he was separated from the family after Waters
was born. His Mother, Bertha Jones died in 1918 and therefore Muddy was raised
by his grandmother Delia Jones in Clarksdale. Waters first worked as a
sharecropper at a cotton plantation, however he had always found time to entertain
people with his music. Waters was always musically talented. He learned how to
play the harmonica when he was just five and as a teenager he led a band that
played at Mississippi Delta clubs. His singing was influenced by the style of Son
House and at 17, Waters self taught himself to play the guitar.... Show more content

7. President Grover Cleveland
Grover Cleveland was marked off as a great President. Even though he won the
democratic party then presidential elections, the final thoughts were very mixed.
Cleveland did Tame the south by telling them they had a friend in the whitehouse.
Cleveland did help to create Solid South for the Democrats by encouraging former
Confederates to believe they had a new strong political figure who played for them;
his return of captured Confederate battle flags and his decision to go fishing on
Memorial Day a Civil War holiday aided in this regard. He also strengthened the
party outside the South by linking it to civil service reform. On the other hand, his
stubborn opposition toward the Silverites and agrarian populists nearly brung the
Democrats to split and them being split up led to their defeat in... Show more content

After making into office, he turned on his own party members for their
qualifications and honesty of position. Despite the fact of being an okay President,
Cleveland almost solely restored and strengthened the power and self government
of the executive branch. Notable in his presidency was his use of executive
privilege, his harsh refusals for handing over documents to congress and in the fight
over presidential appointments. He was the first president in the gilded age to ever
make extreme assertions of executive power in peace, the last president who did this
was Richard M. Nixon. His record breaking use of the presidential veto also enabled
him to reestablish the equilibrium between the executive and legislative branches,
another precedent setting example of presidential power, which set a clear example
to future presidents. Just as influential, Cleveland made a reputation as a strong
presidents in many ways. His assertion of authority in calling out federal troops
during the Pullman strike, sending warships to Panama, and threatening Britain with
war over the Venezuelan boundary dispute set the tone for the modern

We were all screaming as the plane was plunging towards the ground. I looked over
at Simon and his son Timmy, we all knew what was happening. The plane hurtled to
the ground, it felt like forever. Then we crashed, I couldn t think right all the
passengers that were on the plane were gone all I could see was Simon across the
middle of the plane. Then this dirty disgusting looking man came and picked up
Simon s son and left with him in his arms. It must have been a couple hours later, I
got up and woke Simon. We have to set up a camp I remember Simon saying. There
were two hatchets, each for one of us and we each took a handbook, with what other
supplies we found on the plane. We continued out of the damaged plane onto the

We decided to build a temporary shelter out of sticks. That night was cold and
unbearable, Simon couldn t sleep so he built a fire. We saw these creatures running
around making weird noises. They looked like the creature that took Simon s son but
there were many of them in packs. I immediately ran into the deep, freezing, cold
water.
The day was running away and Simon and I didn t have a plan yet, we went out
into the cold searching for Timmy. We came across this big crater in the middle of
the island, it was bigger than anything I ve ever seen before. To our left there was a
rope, I had never been down a rope let alone one that long. I persevered down the
rope. once we got to the bottom we saw more of those creatures. There was a small
cave entrance not too far from where we had come down on the rope. We
approached it cautiously. The cave felt hollow and empty until we came across a
rope that took us down even further than before. The strange sounds that echoed
through the cave were becoming louder and louder. Then, we saw it. It was bigger
than anything we saw before, it had multiple legs and was at least eight feet tall. All
we had were our axes and some supplies
9. Mise-En-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite
In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon
Dynamite (Jon Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are
what make him as a character; they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in
mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the film, but he has his own
peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). This effect is
achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in
order to bring out Napoleon s persona in ways other than simply guessing who he
really is. Rather, these techniques explicitly imply certain character traits; they are
like clues that allow one to see the character just as the creator intended.... Show more

This not only shows his weakness as a person, but his immaturity as well, considering
that high school students typically do not resort to this sort of behavior; it is
normally reserved for younger children. He is a figure of mockery to nearly
everyone at school, his uncle Rico, even his own brother Kip. Albeit he hardly tries
to defend himself, he does attempt to make up for it by trying to look cool, but in
extremely ineffective ways. The initial instance of this phenomenon of Napoleon s
is when he first meets Pedro. He brags that a gang at his school wanted him to join
(specifically for his bow staff skills ), which is almost certainly not true. Also, he
tells Don a ridiculous, overly exaggerated story when he went to Alaska the
previous summer. He claims that he went wolverine hunting with his uncle, and shot
like fifty of em . Either there is an entire flipside to Napoleon s character that is
never revealed, or he is embellishing a story that may not even exist in the first place.
The latter seems like a much more reasonable conclusion.
Not only does he fail to seem cool to the people at school, but he does not exactly
have the best skills in picking up women. In more blunt words, he is just not very
smooth. One example of this is when he talks to Deb in the cafeteria, and uses the
corny pickup line, I see you re
10. Abenaki Indians as Environment
Many people are under a false impression that early Native Americans are the
original environmentalists. This is an impression that many people share. The
Abenaki tribes that resided in Maine from 3700 BP were not by our traditional
definition, environmentalists. In fact they were far from ecologically sound. This
paper is meant not to criticize the Native Americans of the age, but to clarify their
roles in the environment. To better understand this subject some background is
needed. The Abenaki People of the Northeast led a non permanent exististance based
mostly on the seasonal flux in the region. The area of land now referred to as Maine
especially. Maine has always had abrupt seasons and the Abenaki used these seasons

They used what is known as a diffused substinance pattern. By this we mean that by
using resources available to them lightly as opposed to intensely using the same
resources, they were conserving for the future. These tribes would spiritualize nature.
In this culture everything was significant. They held reverence for the environment
and a strong kinship with nature. Often these people observed respectful
guidelines to avoid spiritual retaliation. For instance, the bones of the beaver
would be returned to the river where it had been trapped. This was believed to keep
the beavers there plentiful. As you can clearly see the early Native Americans
culture regarding the surrounding ecosystem would probably horrify many
ecologists upon first look, but perhaps if we look deeper we can learn a truer
meaning to the idea of environmentalism. If we plan to sustain the resources of the
earth for our children we must find a balance and end the selfish taking of resources.
We can learn much from this
11. Compare And Contrast Age Of Discovery And New
Imperialism
Humans have always been curious about their surroundings and how it could benefit
them. The Europeans were famous for doing just that. The Age of Discovery and the
Age of New Imperialism are evidence of the Europeans curiosity to venture out of
their country. Although both the Age of Discovery and New Imperialism were
similar in political and religious motives, they differed in economic motives and
mindsets.
The Age of Discovery and New Imperialism had many similarities in motives. Both
wanted land to conquer and rule over for the sake of their country. There are many
prominent leaders that helped lead the Age of Exploration. Columbus landed in the
Americas and Cortez landed in Mexico and helped take over the Aztec Empire.
Leaders in the Age of Imperialism included Henry Stanley. He helped Leopold
acquire the Congo Free State. In addition to land, both eras of time had a want for
resources and to spread their religion. The raw materials gained from the conquered
land helped their economy because they made things cheaper. Furthermore, European
countries wanted to spread their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Their mindset was that curiosity would lead them to the lands most beneficial.
Explorers like Columbus and Cortez wanted to venture out of their mother country.
They also had a want for resources such as sugar, slaves, and spices. They got these
resources predominantly from the Americas and specifically India in Asia. These
resources differed from what the Age of New

13. Harriet The Spy Louise Fitzhugh
Question 1: Harriet the Spy In her text Harriet the Spy Louise Fitzhugh treats
tropes of the public self and the private self the secretive part of the self in and
throughout Harriet s status/occupation as a gender queer spy. Harriet as a gender
queer spy is utilized by Fitzhugh as a grounds for negotiating the supple separation
between societal expectations of the public self, and the private/secretive realities
of that very self. Consider, for example, Mrs. Gibbs assertion that Janie and Harriet
need a few graces especially as they are becoming young women (Fitzhugh 80).
Harriet then defensively introjects after Mrs. Gibbs further asserts that Harriet s
mother Mrs. Welsch worried about the way [Harriet] moved and defensively states
that she moves fast (Fitzhugh 80). Ole Golly eventually intervenes and tells Harriet

Indeed, the first time Harriet spies on the club, Harriet comments on the unsettlement
she feels at having heard herself being referred to as a she by her class mates

always be an Other a she in relation to this club; a club that seems to function much
like heteronormativity, especially when/if someone is outed. Harriet is also an Other
as she unlike Rachel, Laura, and Carrie the most feminized characters of this work

the thought of bridge. Hence, we witness here a parallelism being drawn between
Harriet and the masculinized/queer, that functions not only in relation to Harriet s
spying and her outing as a spy but also functions in relation to the queerness

plays into the role of responsibility because the acronym LDRSHIP displays just
that. We found earlier that to be a leader you have to be responsible they go hand

loyalty, duty, respect, self less service, honor, integrity, personal courage. These
are the values that help each and every service member cope with the day to day
struggles they face and help with their decision making process. I could define
verbatim what these values mean but I would rather tell you what they mean to
me. Loyalty is to be true to oneself and others always, duty is to do what needs to
be done, your job. Respect is a two way street, treat others as you would treat

do things for others and the Army with out putting yourself first. Honor, well in the

16. Research Paper On Drag Racing
When I was a little girl, I always wanted to drive a race car, just like many members
of my family did. Having gone to the drag races and watching my dad race his
candy apple red Camaro, racing has constantly been a hobby that piqued my
interest. After looking into what it would take to be a race car driver, I discovered
that the top three things it take to be a master racer are your time, your car itself
(and your familiarity with it), and the conditions of the track. Despite popular
belief, driving a drag race car is more than just flooring a gas pedal and hoping to
beat the guy in the other lane; instead, racing is a hobby that calls for great physical
and mental capabilities. Many people who have not watched drag racingwould not
know what someone is referring to when they are talking about a racer s reaction
time. A racer s reaction time is dependent on a few different things. First, it is
important to know that a racer watches a light, sometimes called a Christmas Tree
that has a side for each driver. Each side of the tree has the following lights from
top to bottom: two sets of two yellow bulbs (called the pre stage and stage bulbs),
three amber bulbs that cue the race is about to start, a green light (which signals
when the driver is to go), and a red light (which would signal if the driver has had a
foul start, by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Someone who knows nothing about race cars would have to get very lucky to beat
a veteran driver. Just because a person can floor a gas pedal does not mean that

car, for a drag racer must be physically and mentally capable. From my research, I
have found that drag racing is a fascinating and extremely involved hobby. One day,
if you see a purple sparkly race car flying down the race track, you might just have
this report to thank for my newfound

Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr and what he thinks happened, the second chapter
is about Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison s secret dinner
about Hamilton s proposal for the U.S to take the states debt, the third chapter is
about Benjamin Franklin petitioning to end slavery, the fourth chapter is about
George Washington announcing his retirement from his presidency and his final

Wonderful Fool, by Shusaku Endo, the authors write in a way which allows the
characters to speak directly to the reader through thoughts. This device lets the reader
know exactly what the character is experiencing. Mishima and Endo s use of direct

Ryuji s change is a result of his having to choose between a life at sea, where he
feels his glory awaits him, or a life on land with Fusako. Ryuji s introspection on
his life and glory are conveyed to the reader through his expression of boredom and
disillusionment. At dawn of New Year s Day, Ryuji stands at the dock with Fusako
and thinks about his being, tired to death of the squalor and the boredom in a
sailor s life . . . There was no glory to be found, not anywhere in the world (Mishima

situation and an understanding of Ryuji s discovery of what he wants; a life on

An estimated 480,000 school buses are in use every day in the US. About 95% of
these buses (456,000) are using diesel fuel, using 822,857,143 gallons per year,
which produces 95,000 tons of smog. This smog is not only incredibly damaging to
the environment, but has cancer causing effects on the children the buses are
transporting. Diesel exhaust has been proven to cause lung cancer, damage eyes and

Electrically powered buses are much cleaner for the environment. And with the
lowest fuel price according to the AFDC, it is very cost effective per mile. It also is
very easy to refuel, being rechargeable by just sitting in the lot plugged in.
Electrically powered engines also have another benefit, which is sound. Electric

by Shields, maybe I have not seen true competition. Perhaps what I have viewed in
high school, collegiate, and professional activities is actually decompetition (n.d.).
Decompetition is like competition, but it primarily promotes the worst attributes in
athletics, producing a negative outcome (Shields, n.d.). Regardless, over the course
of this semester, my view of competition has been changed. I now hold a neutral
view of competition. I do not believe that all competition is innately bad but not all is
inherently good either. The gameof jacksplayed today was the most pivotal activity in
the shift of my opinion. No one in my group had ever played the game. Instead of
working individually, so one of us could triumph over the others, we worked
together to find the best strategies and methods. Every time someone threw their
handful of jacks to the floor, we analyzed them to find the best way to gather the
jacks. We moaned when someone failed to gather their jacks in time and cheered
when someone did the seemingly impossible. To us, the game was still fresh and
new; we used each other s perspectives to figure it out. During our first game, for
instance, Amanda received zero points, and I only won ten. But, by game two,
Amanda and I, through trial and error and the feedback from the others, sharpened
our skills to earn 51 and 40 points respectively. I was fairly happy with my success,
21. The Mortgage Crisis Of 2007
The mortgage crisis of 2007 marked catastrophe for millions of homeowners who
suffered from foreclosure and short sales. Most of the problems involving the
foreclosing of families homes could boil down to risky borrowing and lending.
Lenders were pushed to ensure families would be eligible for a loan, when in
previous years the same families would have been deemed too high risk to obtain
any kind of loan. With the increase in high risk families obtaining loans, there was a
huge increase in home buyers and subsequently a rapid increase in home prices. As a
result, prices peaked and then began falling just as fast as they rose. Soon after
families began to default on their mortgages forcing them either into foreclosureor
short sales. Who was to blame for the risky lending and borrowing that caused the
mortgagemeltdown? Many might blame the company Fannie Mae and Freddie
Mac, but in reality the entire system of buying and selling and free market failed
home owners and the housing economy. However, hope might be on the horizon
for the victims of the mortgage disaster of 2007/2008. Home buyers who were
foreclosed upon years ago, or boomerang buyers, are beginning to be eligible to
buy homes again. While some feel hope after feeling bamboozled by lenders and
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, some feel anxious and fearful of the thought of
buying again. Yet there are lessons that have been learned by the mortgage
meltdown. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac provided a lesson for the

The Secret Garden: Book vs. Movie
The Secret Garden is a film based on Frances Hodgson Burnett s classic children s
book bearing the same title. This movie is about a young girl who is literally
shipped off to her uncle s English castle after her parents are killed in an earthquake.
The main character, Mary, is played by Kate Maberly. She is tossed into a world
where sunlight and cheerful discourse seem as rare as the attention she receives
from the sour pussed housekeeper Medlock, played by Maggie Smith. She helps her
crippled cousin to see past his hypochondria and into the wonders of a long forgotten
garden hidden beyond the confines of Misselthwaite Manor. While one critic dislikes
the slight deviations from the book, another is ... Show more content on

Throughout her review of The Secret Garden, Ms. Rosenfeld hammers away at the
movie s deviations from the book, though she acknowledges, Some changes
admittedly are useful. . . . She also feels that screenwriter Caroline Thompson s
effort was annoying. This critic, with a few exceptions, gives the crew high marks
for the props and scenery that support the story. Though charming, The Secret
Garden is no more than a hatchet job on a classic story, according to Megan
Rosenfeld (D1 2).
Desson Howe of The Washington Post saw The Secret Garden in a positive light,
regarding the slight changes from the book as quiet charms. Howe finds this
picture to be an especially agreeable one, considering some of the less cerebrally
challenging movies that are aimed at youngsters. This is mostly a serious movie,
even though screenwriter Caroline Thompson is known for her work on movie
titles like The Addams Family. Mr. Howe acknowledges that some changes in the
story might upset those who grew up reading the book, but he also feels that
enough of the original story is left intact so that no damage is done. The acting by
both child and adult actors is plausible; the locations are appealing and moving.
Desson Howe found this version of an often told tale to be a pleasurable experience
and a breath of fresh air.
To truly understand and enjoy The Secret Garden, one need only to watch with an
open mind and allow the story to sink in slowly. Forget the book, which is a
23. Essay On Buying A New Home
Families who are getting ready to buy their first home are sure to be bombarded
with advice on how to go about purchasing it. With so much advice, it may be hard
to know exactly how to get started with financing a first home. Having a step by step
guide can help first time home buyers through this process.
Types of mortgages
It is essential for people who are ready to buy a home to have a basic understanding
of the different types of mortgages. Depending on a family s financial circumstances,
there are several ways to go about financing a new home. Different types of mortgages
have different requirements, including how much home buyers have to put towards a

This information will help make it clearer what type of loan will be in the buyer s
best interest. It also helps to be familiar with the term when talking with a mortgage
loan officer. If he sees that the buyer understands the terminology, he will be more
likely to offer the best mortgage loan offer possible.
Will you need PMI insurance?
The need for PMI insurance is something that is misunderstood by many people
buying a home for the first time. Whether or not the buyer needs PMI mortgage
insurance will depend on the personal financial circumstances and the type of
mortgage loan. The loan officer will advise the buyer before closing if PMI
insurance is required. There are advantages and disadvantages to having PMI
mortgage insurance, and also ways to avoid it altogether.
Understanding mortgage points and closing costs
Another consideration for people who are preparing to purchase their first home is
the additional costs that can be added by mortgage points and the various types of
closing costs. It is in the buyer s best interest to understand each aspect of mortgage
points and closing points thoroughly before signing any loan closing paperwork.
Using a mortgage calculator
It takes a great deal of financial planning to prepare for the purchase of a home. A
mortgage calculator can help buyers determine the affordability of a mortgage and
whether or not they will have difficulty in keeping up with the monthly mortgage

Executive Statement
A mainframe is a very large, powerful, dedicated, multi tasking computer where
enormous amounts of data are processed, sometimes millions of records a day. The
mainframe is set up for specific applications and those applications only; which is
totally different from a Personal Computer (PC). A mainframe runs a custom
operating system specifically written for particular applications while a PC has a
generic operating system such as Windows and is built to handle many different
programs.
PC s are multi tasking but not dedicated with control of the resources usually handled
by the computer rather than the user having control over the amount of resources

The main purpose of a mainframe was to run commercial applications and large

of data are processed sometimes millions of records a day.
A typical mainframe has the following characteristics:
В·A mainframe has several CPUs.
В·Memory is hundreds of Gigabytes of RAM and It has tons of hard drive storage.
В·Its processing power is over 550 Mips.
В·It often has different cabinets for storage, input/ouput and RAM.

В·All processes are running on the host and not on the terminal.
В·Output is sent to the terminal through a program running (in the background) on

Management processes, such as program management and task management, are
separate. A mainframe is usually associated with centralized computing where all
computing physically takes place on the mainframe itself (L. Mitzner, personal

Textbooks should be replaced by Online Resources We live in the era of 21st century,
and it is the time to take the step in whole world with technological advances.
Nowadays, most of the children love to use the internet for many purposes, but still
they carry heavy backpacks with lots of textbooks. There are many reason for why
textbooks should be replaced by today s latest technological tools. Textbooks have
become a burden for all students across the world. As technology advances, leaning
styles have become more technology dependent which makes the students more
accustomed to technological devices. Some schools have traditional thinking that
textbooks are the only way to go perfectly, but on the other hand online resources are
more sensible alternative. School districts should replace textbooks with online
resources in order to reduce stress for the students, save the district resources, and
endure a longer period of time than textbooks. Although online resources can be
frustrating and slow if it is overloaded with applications, they are much easier to
use for a student. Textbooks pressurize considerable weight on a student s back; as
a result, it leads to medical conditions such as scoliosis. The most important reason
for what young children have back pains is to carry heavy backpack with heavy
textbooks. As stated by Daily Herald, Kids who wear their backpacks over one

African American males and mass incarceration. Racial Critiques of Mass

critiques mass incarceration as well as the analogy of the Criminal Justice system

Blacks and whites who have dropped out of high school are ten times more likely
to be incarcerated than those who have attended college. An African American
man with some college education, the lifetime chance of going to prison actually
decreased slightly. A black man born in the late 1960s who dropped out of high
school has a 59% chance of going to prison in his lifetime whereas a black man
who attended college has only a 5% chance. White men born in the late 1960s, the
lifetime risk of imprisonment is more than ten times higher for those who dropped
out of high school than for those who attended some amount of college.
Washington, D.C., is the nation s only majority black jurisdiction that controls
sentencing policy yet, despite these external forces, local black elected officials
exert considerable power over crime policy and have the ability to push back
against federal actors. The Old Jim Crow, was a series of legal restrictions, backed
by state and private violence, imposed on black people by the white majority.
When given the opportunity, blacks rejected it. According to Professor Forman, like
a black person living under the Old Jim Crow, a convicted criminal today becomes a
member of a stigmatized caste, condemned to a lifetime of second class citizenship.
Longer sentences has been a major cause of mass incarceration. Thus, changing how
governments respond to all crime, not just drug crime, is critical to reducing the size
of prison

Epiphanies in James Joyce s Dubliners Characters in Dubliners experience
revelations in their every day lives which James Joyce called epiphanies. Merriam
Webster defines an epiphany as an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure.
While word epiphany has a religious connotation, these epiphanies characters in
Dubliners experience do not bring new experiences and possibility of reform that
epiphanies usually have. Joyce s epiphanies allow characters to better understand
their circumstances, generally full of sadness and grief. After these revelations,
characters go back to their lives with acceptance but frustration. Dubliners fail to see
their situation fully, which is the reason they lacked reaching their full potential.
Dubliners is full of characters in lethargic positions that Joyce saw as the fate of all
Dubliners. In each story, he gave each individual the possibility of an epiphany, but
often the characters failed to break through and see their ability to change their
situations, because of this, some of these epiphanies occur only on the narrative level,
showing the reader that the story s character missed their epiphany. In fact, in The
Dead , the scene is set on/around January 6th, which is the Feast of the Epiphany.
The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the manifestation of Christ s divinity to the
Magi. The Dead is also Joyce s last chance to make clarity of an epiphany. Will this

If you were to ask nearly anybody who knew me the one thing that defined me,
they d likely all give the same answer television. This may seem like an
overstatement, or otherwise simply pathetic, but it s also true. The grand majority
of my free time is spent either watching or discussing television programs, and
happily so. Many of my friendships have been formed after finding that the other
person was a fan of shows I d also enjoyed.
This was not always the case, however. When I was very young, TV held little
interest for me. Of course, I watched some of the standard children s shows, but the
true love of my life at the time was reading. According to my mother, I took it upon
myself to teach myself to read after my teacher taught us the alphabet one week and
then never mentioned it again. I was apparently a fast learner as a preschooler,
because I was comfortably rushing through chapter books by the time I entered
kindergarten.
I suspect that my book reading phase was almost more inconvenient for my mother
than my later television fixation. When I wasn t forcing her to buy me more books
at the bookstore, I was checking out books from the library that I rarely if ever
returned in time to avoid fees. It managed to become quite an expensive hobby. It
was also one that consumed most of my time. I refused to take my nose out of
whatever book I was reading long enough to cross the street, and soon mastered the
art of walking while reading without bumping into everybody around

Fifth, DBMS can schedule concurrent access to the data, where when more than one
user is accessing the data; users are protected from the possibility of system failures.
Sixth, DBMS can reduce application development time since DBMS supports many
important functions common to the many applications (Ramakrishnan 8 9).
There are some disadvantages to using a DBMS that must be taken into
consideration however. For example, a DBMS is complex software best used with
certain kinds of workloads. This relates to its performance not being adequate for
certain specialized applications. Second, another application may have to manipulate
entered data in order to manage. This can create a problem if the second application
does not support the designed query language.
Developers of DBMS software are generally diverse in numbers and chosen fields.
IBM and Oracle are two popular ventures for DBMS developers. Each venture has its
own Database Administrator that manages DBMS for that place of business. The
Database Administrator often designs schemas, provides security, and restores the
system if a failure occurs. There is also a Database Systems Manager who monitors
the running of the system, and managing users requests.
There are three common types of databases prevalent in the business arena: Relational
, Object Oriented, and Object Relational.

38. The Issue of Media and Responsible News Coverage
October 14, 2013 Introduction The topic I chose to explore more in depth with is
the issue of media and the ethics behind responsible news coverage. I wanted to
examine the guidelines of media reporting as well as if proper aspects of
responsibility, morality, and privacy is taking place when the news instantly
reports on different public issues, crimes, and incidents around the country. For
example, your child is at school when a gunman invades and openly shoots many
other children and teachers in the building. It feels like switch, within minutes of
the event even occurring pictures are shown on the TV of a classroom maybe
even your own child and her class walking out of the building in fear, that night it s
on the front page of the newspaper and you had no idea. Is this acceptable? Are
there any rules or say in approving this? For me personally I would be angry in that
their was no consent for that my child to be shown in that way after something so
terrible happening. I wanted to investigate media coverage and events in relation to
ethical guidelines of how scenarios should be handled and if they are, in fact,
followed in the ways learned in our from our textbook. Background In our world
today, we hear in an instant what has happened and is happening to other people in
different places around the country in a matter of minutes. The media will report on
every single detail of that story and even photographs anyone involved with the
incident but is this ethical? Does

Neo Aristotelian is the first formal method of rhetorical criticism formed by the
communication field (Foss, 2009). In the year of 1925, Herbert A. Wichelns detailed
the central features of the Neo Aristotelian method in The Literacy of Oratory (Foss,
2009). Before Wichelns method, there was no guideline to how properly conduct
Criticism (Foss, 2009). This method is commonly used for analyzing speeches and
other spoken discourses given to an audience of any sort. Neo Aristotelian involves
four steps: choosing the artifact, analyzing the artifact, formulating a research
question and lastly, writing the essay. The difference from Neo Aristotelian criticism
and other criticism methods can be found in one of the steps, which is analyzing the
artifact
40. Reflection Paper On The Catholic Funeral
Catholicism is one of the most popular religions in the world. One of my close
family friends passed away recently and considered himself to be an encultured part
of the Catholic religion. I chose to do my paper over this culture and attend this
event because I was curious to see what it entailed, being one of the most popular
religions in the world. At first, I was very nervous to go to the funeralbecause I had
never been to anything Catholic related in my life. I was scared that I would feel
out of my comfort zone and not know what to do. I have attended a couple Christian
funerals in the past but never a Catholic one. At the beginning of the ceremony, we all
greeted the priest and the family and then continued on to our seats in an organized
order while slow, depressing, music played.
During the ceremony, I noticed four main aspects that seemed outstandingly
different to my own culture. The first one being that the priest would say a word
and the Catholic people in the crowd would say it in harmony with him at the exact
same time he would say it. Second, I noticed that he would say a whole quote that
would be about a sentence or two long and then the crowd would respond with a
different quote which was also a sentence or two long. Third being that the priest
would say something and the people around us would either stand, kneel, or sit at
cues he would give. Finally, I noticed that during the ceremony he took time to light
some sage like material and wave it around
41. The Optimal Formula For Longevity And Healthiness
It is known that genetics and lifestyle determine health and length of life. The
optimal formula for longevity and healthiness was researched by National
Geographic and National Institute of Aging. The agencies performed a study
examining the lifestyles of individuals who lived to be a hundred years old or more.
People who lived to be hundred years old or more have acquired the name
centenarians. The research indicated centenarians populated the following locations
known as Blue Zones: Ikaria, Greece; Loma Linda, California; Sardinia, Italy;
Okinawa, Japan; and Nicoya Costa Rica. Dan Buettner, geographic reporter, travelled
to the Blue Zones and interviewed centenarians to discover the secret to living
physical and mentally satisfying life. Buettner s interviews revealed nine
commonalities which focused on movement, purpose, mindfulness, nutrition, and
community. Blue Zone Power 9 information is widely published and readily
available, and while 60% of the United Statespopulation will at encounter long term
care facility living, the likely users of Buettner s research would be long term care
facilities. However, the United States long term care facilities do not implement
Power 9 concepts to improve quality of life in long term care settings. This paper
will illustrate with examples how long term care as a whole falls short of providing
a Blue Zone Power9 environment for older adults.
The first Power9 secret to living a longer, fuller life is movement. According to Dan
42. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
When I woke up that Tuesday morning in 7th grade, I thought it would be like any
other day, until my head started excruciatingly pounding. Even worse, it didn t go
away. Something was wrong. Prior to this, I was a relatively healthy child. I
participated in many sports; played the floor is lava constantly with my brothers
(who doesn t know that game?!), climbed trees in our front yard every day, and hung
upside down on the monkey bars at recess all the time. I did everything any other kid
would do. My seeming headache though became a debilitating condition, which has
made many things difficult over the last six years. For one, I ve come to face many
physical challenges. Although it seems insignificant, I no longer was able... Show

But not only has this illness affected me, it also affected my family. My parents
spend time from their already busy lives accompanying me to doctors and
treatment sessions, leaving my two brothers often on their own. The worst part
has been mentally. The condition caused me to have a lot of stress and anxiety.
Medicines I took wouldn t work; I became desensitized to treatments like
acupuncture (something that got me through 10th grade); and getting to school
became more difficult. There were many days where I d think to myself: I quit. I
can t do this anymore. It didn t help that my first neurologist when I was twelve
told my parents that it s all in her head. I knew I felt pain, but I would question
whether I was overreacting, since few people other than my family believed me. It
took almost five years and over 200 days of missed school to finally be correctly
diagnosed. I had Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which is not
yet well understood, but has caused me countless severe migraine headaches, constant
vertigo, and perpetual
43. Forbidden s No Triangle-Love
At first Forbidden seem to be another typical young adult paranormal romance, with
the mysterious guy and the new girl setting that may seem a little familiar. However
in the end I feel it did a rather good job on balancing the romance and the
supernatural world building. I thought the writing was colorful, and the story was
very engaging. Not to say it didn t have it s moment, but overall I really enjoyed
reading this book.
What I liked about this book:

44. Examples Of Pathos In Thank You For Smoking
Thank You for Smoking released in 2006 is based on the book titled the same by
Christopher Buckley in 1994. Thank You for Smoking is a satirical film that
focuses on the hidden agendas and dark truths of Big Tobacco. The film follows
Nick Naylor, head lobbyist for Big Tobacco and his demise through his endorsement
for cigarettes. Throughout the movie Nick Naylor showcases his persuasiveness in
almost every scene. In a scene with his son Joey, Naylor is asked Why is the
American government the best government in the world? After pointing out the bias
within the question Naylor went on to tell his son that the question could be
answered in many ways. Naylor proclaimed, That s the beauty of argument, if you
argue correctly, you re never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you may expect, sitting next to a young boy who has gotten cancer from
smoking Nick is the target amongst the panel and Ron s plan works. However, Nick
is able to quickly turn the tables, he tells the audience that It s in our (Big Tobacco)
best interests to keep Robin alive and smoking, (Reitman, 2006). and he adds that,
The anti smoking people want Robin to die. so that their budget can go up
(Reitman, 2006). Nick ends the scene by telling the audience that Big Tobacco is
launching a 50 million dollar campaign to persuade kids not to smoke and the
crowd goes wild. This is the first time we get to see Nick s skill. Although, he has
not acknowledged the mortality caused by cigarettes he successfully uses pathos
to tap into the audience s emotions. Initially, when the crowds see the sick boy they
look at Naylor to blame because he endorses the deadly sticks, but after Nick
proves to them that it is in Big Tobacco s best interest that Robin lives because they
would lose a customer the audience is swayed and forgets that the reason Robin is
dying is because of Big Tobacco. In this case Naylor uses pathos to redirect the
audience s anger at Ron Goody. During Naylor s interview with Heather Holloway
when asked about why he does his job he confesses that he does it for the mortgage.
Naylor doesn t really pose an argument to her
45. Artist Music Should Be Used For Advertising
Music is all around us. Do u think the artists music should be used for advertising?
Did you know that according to data journalist David, McCandless, a signed solo
artist would need about 5,478 iTunes downloads of a song per month versus
4,200,000 YouTube streams per month just to make the U.S. minimum wage. Back
in time our parents bought records, CDs and cassette players and some of them
still do. I m going to tell you why I oppose that artists should be used for
advertising. Technology has changed and it will keep on getting more advanced
but the only problem is that every person will have probably about 5% of common
sense. Do you guys now the meaning of advertising? Advertising is instrumental to
the success of businesses. If no one knows that the business exists or they have no
idea what products or services are offered, how will they get customers? People
love music. But do this people know that the people producing or making this music
do get paid much. Here s an example, In November of 2014, award winning... Show

Well I m a singer so I gotta love music. For instance my family they love music.but
It s clear that for artists big or small, trying to maintain credibility while struggling
to sustain a career is certainly tricky. Artists must develop an image that appeals to
their fans in order to remain unique and authentic, or they risk striking the wrong
chord, which could leave them struggling to sustain careers in this new business
landscape. I was thinks about getting into the music career like singing but it takes
a lot of deification and sacrifice becuase you have no time for school you have now
time for yourself and also everybody wants to be in your business if you start
advertising .This can be tremendously stressful for artists who are just starting to
build their careers, as they need to spend energy creating good music and a unique
image that appeals to fans. When the electronic artist
46. Why Is Super Size Me Effective
Super Size Me increases its effectiveness by using strategic clips, lack of
knowledge, and solemnity to play with the viewer s emotions and cause for a more
drastic reaction by its viewers. Many times throughout the film, obese children,
men, and women alike are shown doing activities as drastic as chanting the names
of fast food restaurants to something as regular as walking. While the title screen is
rolling, Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen is played over multiple clips of overweight
and obese people standing in lines at various fast food restaurants. In this instance
and others alike, the song and visuals coordinate to mock the importance of America
s obesity epidemic; like how the documentary played carnival music during serious
clips of
47. My Food Allergies
Have you ever been offered a disgusting looking homemade meal by a loved one
and you didn t know how to turn it down because you didn t want to offend them?
That s really unfortunate for you because I m guessing you had to suffer through
the horrid taste and finish the entire dish. But for me, I have a secret answer so that
I never have to eat anything I don t want. With one sentence containing one magic
word, I can turn down any nasty looking meal. Want to know what it is? Allergies.
That is my magic word. All I have to say is, I probably can t eat that because I have
egg, peanut, and treenut allergies but thank you so much for the thought! Just like
that, I am safe from the horror with no blood on my hands because the person who
made the foodis too scared that I could die if they feed it to me. This is just one
advantage of having an anaphylactic food allergybut I figured it was a useful tool to
share if you ever find yourself in that situation and need to use a quick white lie. I
see my food allergies as a positive in my life not only because of the excuses I can
make with food, but because they give me such a different mindset than everyone
around me. My allergies are part of my identity and part of what makes me, me.
They have transformed me from feelings of insecurity to achieving self
actualization and owning my differences. If somebody didn t know that I had food
allergies and saw me living my daily life, they would be able to observe that I am a

48. The Addams Family Play Analysis
The Addams Family
Addams family was a great play. It was fun to watch and had a lot of surprises that
kept it interesting.
The set was very simple so it didn t distract from the characters. There were only a
few set pieces that went in the middle of the stage so the set was mainly the
backdrop, which was really pretty and had a cool design. The lighting was cool. I
really liked the first scene when it was dark and there was smoke. It set up the eerie
theme in the play. Although it was live, everything ran smoothly and if anyone
messed up, they played it off really well. The actors were great. They all fit their role
perfectly and played their part well. I think there was a good audience. We all laughed
and clapped when we were supposed to.
49. Personal Response to creation
Personal Response Creation
Lenses by Leah Silverman
The main theme is humans can find it emotionally difficult to conform to society,
but usually end up doing so. The meaning of this theme is that we all want to do
things that are practical to society even if it feels wrong in our hearts. The main
driving component which draws people too conformity are the desire to be
accepted in certain status groups. People fear that if they do not conform to
society, they will be breaking the social contract, therefore be rejected by society at
not being able to achieve their personal goals. It is easier to do what is expected
than following our minds and rebel. We chose this theme because we can all relate to

This individual believes that lies would destroy friendships and lives of others. This
relates to the topic because when we conform to society, we become dishonest with
ourselves. We lie about our feelings and emotions to do what is expected. In the
poem it says lying could really hurt a person inside. However, by becoming truthful
and showing our true self could also hurt us because by doing so, we could be
judged and talked about in a negative light. Leah Silverman s Lenses tells the story
of a young surgeon, Corinne, who is asked to replace the vivid eyes of a friend with
two round, steel lenses. She finds herself in a difficult situation where she must
decide whether or not to go through with the operation, risking ruining her friend s
depth and character. The overall message of the story is that the people are made as
unique individuals. The story emphasizes how the eyes contribute to the individuality
and beauty of a person, and the fact that nothing can replace them. This relates to the
theme because as people try to fit into society, they start to change and become
someone they are not. It is important to know the significance of being unique
because it tells so much about our character and feelings. Also, though a person goes
through a
