Marijuana Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Marijuana Essays" can be both challenging and intriguing. The
subject itself is multifaceted, encompassing various aspects such as the historical, cultural, legal,
medical, and social dimensions of marijuana use. The complexity arises from the need to
navigate through these diverse perspectives and present a well-balanced, informed, and nuanced
discussion.
Firstly, delving into the historical context requires a thorough exploration of marijuana's origins,
its early uses, and its evolution over time. Understanding its cultural significance involves
analyzing how different societies view and incorporate marijuana, considering both its traditional
and contemporary roles.
On the legal front, the landscape is dynamic and varies widely across different regions and
jurisdictions. This adds an extra layer of complexity, requiring updated research on current laws,
ongoing debates, and potential shifts in legislation.
The medical aspect introduces another dimension, necessitating an examination of the scientific
research surrounding marijuana's potential benefits and risks. This involves sifting through a
plethora of studies, considering conflicting viewpoints, and synthesizing information to present
a well-rounded perspective.
The social implications of marijuana use further complicate the essay, as opinions on this issue
can be highly polarized. Addressing public attitudes, stigmas, and societal impacts involves
navigating through a myriad of perspectives, potentially requiring careful consideration of ethical
considerations.
Despite the intricacies, a well-crafted essay on "Marijuana Essays" can provide a comprehensive
overview of the topic. However, it demands dedication to thorough research, critical thinking,
and the ability to present information in a coherent and organized manner.

The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur
Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and
Terry Gilliam have opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote
their texts in. Thomas Malory, author of Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a
compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes his version as a script for a movie.
While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative, Gilliam writes his movie
as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of King Arthur,
and Malory uses his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend.
While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grailboth share a common
plot, the works differ on intended purpose and tone. The audiences each author tries
to appease changes each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is trying to appease a
fifteenth century audience who is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair due
to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry Gilliamis trying to entertain a more
modern audience that wants a humorous and satirical movie. The intended purpose of
each of the authors, differ in that each are delivering their works to a situationally
different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le Morte d Arthur was written,
people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a history of
tyrannical kings. Even so, one of the worst Kings of England ever was King Richard
III who was reigning just as the book was written. Although King Richard was not the

The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping Peace
The League of Nations repeatedly failed in keeping the peace because, first of all
Hitler went against the Treaty of Versailles and started World War 2 yet the League
of Nations failed to react. The Treaty of Versailles also failed because Mussolini in
Abyssinia went against the league and Manchuria also contributed towards the
failure to keep the peace. The structure of the league didnГ‚ t help as the council
only met once a year. The power of the league was very weak as there was no
military force. Finally the lack of strong nations joining the league contributed to the
failure of the League of Nations.

The League of Nations also failed because Mussolini, a dictator from Italy, prepared
to invade Abyssinia. Abyssinia then asked the League for help; while the League of
Nations talked to Mussolini he used the time to send an army into Africa. The
League of Nations then suggested giving Abyssinia to Italy. Mussolini ignored the
League of Nations and invaded Abyssinia. In secret however Britain and France
agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy, the Hoare Laval Pact.
Manchuria became a factor or the failure of the League of Nations in 1932 when
the Japanese army invaded Manchuria and threw out the Chinese residents. They
then set up their own government called the Г‚ ManchoukuoГ‚ . When china asked
the League of Nations for help it sent a group of officials led by Lord Lytton to
study the problem, this however took a year, but in February 1933 they ordered
Japan to leave Manchuria.
However Japan refused to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations.
As many countries had important trading links with Japan the League of Nations
couldnГ‚ t agree on sanctions or even ban weapon sales. Britain and France didnГ‚ t
want a war therefore nothing was done. This showed the League of Nations as weak
and powerless therefore adding to the failures and breakdown of the League of
Nations.

The Beginning Of A New Church Year
Introduction:
The season of Advent marks the beginning of a new church year. It is a season of
preparation. Advent is a time when we prepare to celebrate the Nativity of Jesus at
Christmas. And Advent is also a time for us to be alert so that we remain prepared
for our Lord s return at His Second Coming. During these four weeks of the Advent
season, in the midst of all of our preparedness, we are reminded that God comes to
us into our sin and brokenness and gives us a new beginning in our Lord and Savior,
Jesus the Christ.
Our text for today is from the first eight verses of Mark s Gospel, which opens with
the announcement that the beginning is at hand: This is the beginning of the
preaching of the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This beginning, we
re told, is announced by John the Baptizer, who ...came on the scene ...baptizing in
the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
John s baptizing activity attracted a lot of people. Inhabitants from all over the
Judean countryside and all of Jerusalem went out to the wilderness to be baptized
by John and to hear his message about the coming Savior the One whose sandal
thong he was not worthy enough to untie; the One who would baptize with the Holy
Spirit. John s message was effective and drew great crowds because he brought
people what they needed most: the forgiveness of sins. And he prepared them for
something new that was about to begin the reign and
Sample Reflection For Volleyball
What is the purpose of this presentation?
The purpose of this presentation is to research and analyse what type of practice
environment is best suited to my needs and which one will bring the best results
for the future in the sport of Volleyball. The purpose is also to find out what level of
serving I am up to (cognitive, associative and autonomous) and how I can improve
me serve. They will also see an analysis on my serve and what details I need to fix on
it compared to a gold medallist volleyball player. Editing needed
In brief, what will the audience will hear about?
The audience will hear about what stage of serving I am up to and what I need to
improve to get into the school volleyball team. I also need to find which type of
practice is best suited to me and to allow me to gain knowledge in the sport
volleyball. They will also hear about my serving technique and what I need to do
to improve it. They will also hear about what type of practice I am going to do
(massed or distributed) to best suit my needs. My accuracy tests will help show what
stage of learning I am up to in relation to the volleyball serve.
Stages of Learning
What stage of learning you are at?
Out of the 3 different stages for volleyball (which include the cognitive, associate
and the autonomous stage) I am at the associative stage for serving. Looking at the
footage of my serve I can determine that I know how to serve it is just getting my
consistency higher to allow me to get to the next stage of
High Class Beer And Low Class Fashion
High Class Beer Sold In Low Class Fashion An advertisement can be a lot like a
persuasive essay. A promoter wants their audience to buy their product much like a
essay writer wants their audience to buy into their thesis. Just like an essay an
advertisement has a criteria in which it must fulfill in order to achieve its goal.
Certain things the creators do will either help entice the audience, or will deter the
audience from ever looking at the ad again. The general public will see thousands
of ads in a single day, but only a handful of them will ever standout and be
memorable. When creating an ad for a magazine; some of the simplest mistakes can
turn a great promotion into just another page. For an ad to be successful it must be

In the second layer, or the foreground of the ad there is a colored picture of Miller
High Life. The picture of the product is on the right, and takes up the entire fourth
quarter of the page. This image is what s cutting off the second woman in the
photograph. Next there is very large text in the lower center of the page. The
slogan is in entirely in capital letters, and is in bold and block like font. In the
lower left corner of the ad there is an average sized, red and white Miller logo. To
the right of the logo is another slogan, that is in cursive and regular sized font.
Below that is another slogan in small font. This ad s visual design doesn t work
because there is too much for the reader to focus on in this ad. The creators hoped
to use the contrast of the color product in the foreground of the black and white
photograph to bring focus to the product. However, the exact opposite is what
ensues. The black and white photo along with the large bold text in the lower center
actually draws the audiences attention away from the product. The reader could look
at this ad and not even notice the colored in Miller High Life bottle. The colored
product is also too large, and it ruins any symmetrical balance. Furthermore it is
covering the second woman, and bringing her out of focus. This gives the reader the
impression that she is not important. The audience will suffer the most from
The Burning Of Petroleum Based Fuels
Can you see the light? As the burning of petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and
coal continues, smog will continue to cover the sky. Pollution from said burning
occurs as greenhouse gases and chemicals. Specifically, petroleum based fuels,
natural gases, and coal release energy when heat breaks the bonds between
hydrogens and carbons, generating energy and releasing carbon dioxide and water as
byproducts. This energy often originates from stored energy preserved in organisms
that eventually died and lingered in the crust. The byproduct carbon dioxide is the
most dominant of the greenhouse gases, which are gases that absorb and release
thermal energy from the Sun. These gases trap thermal energy in the atmosphere
while releasing a small amount into space. Global warming occurs due to the
trapping of this heat. Their covering of the sky and Sun reduces the amount of
sunlight that can reach the Earth. In addition, these energy sources are also bulky
and inefficient. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (2014),
producing even one kilowatt hour of energy (one kilowatt of electricity expended in
one hour), 0.08 gallons of petroleum based fuel, 1000 cubic feet of natural gases,
and 1.09 pounds of coal ( How much coal, natural gas, or petroleum is used to
generate a kilowatt hour 1 of electricity? ). Despite the availability of alternative
energy sources, most people prefer these dirty energy sources.
Solar power shows promise as a potential alternative.
Personal Narrative On Thanksgiving
Not so thankful for what happened on thanksgiving. On Thursday, November 26,
2015 my mom suggested that I invite some friends over. My mom just wanted to
meet the guys that I was intending to go black friday shopping with later that
evening I assumed. Thanksgiving morning, I had asked my friends Ceejay ,Alex, and
Collin to come over on Thanksgiving. They arrived and my mom had introduced
herself to them and was joking around with them.
You guys are not troublemakers are you? mom said jokingly. No, mam we are going
to try our best to stay safe when shopping and to not cause any trouble tonight said
Collin.
Yeah we won t cause any problems Mrs. Neill said Ceejay
We will stick together and be safe said Alex
I sure hope so, or Jaycee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Officer James had then followed us back to my house to inform my parents of
what had happened tonight and let them know it was nothing we did wrong but
simply all the officers fault. The officer just wanted to make sure we made it home
safe and so that they could explain it all to our parents. Especially Ceejay and I s
parents because we were the ones that had been tased. The look on my mom s face
was priceless when we pulled into the driveway with the police car following.
What the hell did you do?
Mom, it s not what it looks like at all
Get to explaining it right now you have five minutes
Excuse me mam but I would like to explain what happened tonight and apologize for
the behavior of one of my co workers. said officer James
Your co worker?
Yes, your son and his friends did absolutely nothing wrong tonight but handled it
rather well
My co worker had pulled the boys over and attempted to arrest them for stealing a Tv
which they had paid for in full with cash.
Okay...
The officer was extremely aggressive with Ceejay i m assuming because of his skin
pigment and the other boys yelled at the cop but he did not listen
Oh my gosh! said Ceejays mom
Jaycee and Alex attempted to wrestle the cop off enough to free Ceejay but Jaycee
was tased
While doing so the officer was distracted enough for Collin to call me to come to the
My High School Science Projects
Machines are on a fast paced evolutionary track that renders them indispensable to
the progress of mankind. One such machine that has made great strides in the last
century is the automobile. Mobility has always been my area of fascination; the
working of a simple bicycle to the advanced Formula One car has always made me
curious.
During my high school studies I was a student of science and mathematics, both
these subjects helped me in unraveling the mysteries of nature by better
understanding principles that govern its working. I have participated in several
school and inter school science projects, one such project that left lasting
impression was that of a study on gear mechanism used in various tools, fascinated
by the same I was on self propelled path of discovery. I am driven by asking the
questions: why? and how? and this curiosity developed into a passion for machines
as a whole and led me to do an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering
from PVG S College of Engineering and Technology under the prestigious University
of Pune, a leading academic institution in the automotive hub of India, Pune.
The four year course exposed me to many fascinating subjects, my interest evolved as
I explored subjects like Manufacturing Process, Theory of Machines, Metallurgy,
Fluid Mechanics, Machine Design, Power Transmission System, IC engines etc. I
have tried to be in tune with the latest Mechanical technologies by attending courses
offered by automotive industry itself,

The Red Room
The Victorian era was a time of great change; industrialisation, imperialism, scientific
discovery. These changes reflect in the new topics of contemporary literature.
In this essay I am going to look at the effect created by Arthur Conan Doyle and H G
Wells in three short stories, analysing how this effect has added to the plot, setting
and atmosphere.
In order to fully understand the ideas behind these short stories it is detrimental to
overcome our ignorance of past culture.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was surrounded by a London of crime. The police force was
almost totally ineffective and the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you didn t have enough questions unanswered with the title, you mind goes into
overdrive to attempt to place the opening event with the rest of the story.
In The Adventures of the Speckled Band it doesn t offer this immediate junction, he
introduces the story as we are used to with the literature of Conan Doyle, a recount by
Dr. Watson.
The placing of a red herring at the opening of the twisted lip I think was an
experiment by Conan Doyle, I might go so far as to say he was making a point. It
was around this time that Conan Doyle had attempted to write Sherlock Holmes out
of his series, thus ending his illustrious career. However his popularity was such that
by Royal Decree of Her Majesty Queen VictoriaSherlock Holmes was set to return.
This Red Herring could be a testimony to telling the reader just who was in charge of
Sherlock Holmes, coincidence perhaps but maybe a reason for Conan Doyle s
straying from the norm.
The creation of this red herring is not something a find adds to the book, I feel its
just a page of dull waffle, it does nothing to interest me the reader, for if it weren t
for Conan Doyle s acclaim and previous works, I am sure I would have not continued
to read the book.
The entrance to the Red Room is quite abrupt, using prose as the opening sentence; I
can assure you that it will
Code Enforcement Case Study
It is always hard hearing about line of duty deaths. The scenario that was chosen
speaks on the importance of fire sprinklers and code enforcement. One will identify
some major problems, potential solutions and recommendations to the scenario
below. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):
At 10:45 p.m. on January 21, fire companies were dispatched on mutual aid to a
single family house fire that began in a small, unattached wooden shed where the
occupants kept rabbits. The fire started when three heating lamps used to keep in full

Malleefowl Research Paper
The Malleefowl is a heavily built Australian bird that lives on the ground. Relatively,
it is about the size of a chicken. Its scientific name, Leipoa ocellata, which belongs to
the Megapode family. The Malleefowl is a heavy bodied, ground feeding, egg
incubating vertebrae. The two certain characteristics that make the Malleefowl
different from most birds is that they construct large nesting mounds and that the
parents do not care for their chicks after they are born. Being the only living speciesof
the genus Leipoa, it is a birdof unique qualities, although the Giant Malleefowl
(which is now extinct) was a close relative.
The Malleefowl is found nationally, especially in the states of Victoria, New South
Wales, South Australia and Western Australia. They are located in these areas due to
the climate and environment the Malleefowl prefers (which is discussed later). The

After two weeks, a total of 4,227 mounds have been counted. It is known that there
used to be a large number of Mallee Fowls in the past, accounting for a decrease in
population over the years.
The Mallee Fowl is classified as vulnerable, although classified as endangered in
NSW and Victoria, critically endangered in the Northern Territory and likely to
become extinct in Western Australia. This is due to the loss of habitat and the foxes
hunting the Malleefowl for food.
There is no information on disease in wild Malleefowl populations although it is
prone to many common diseases in captive situations. Likewise, there is no evidence
that chemicals used in agriculture are a threat, although the increased exposure may
cause certain diseases.
The Malleefowl habitat is being severely threatened. Much of the best habitat for
Malleefowl has already been cleared or has been converted into grazing by farm
animals and fire is also a major
What Is The Figurative Language In A Cajun Night Before...
The children s book, A Cajun Night Before Christmas, by J. B. King, Jr. was
illustrated by James Rice. This book is an entertaining story that will bring anyone
back to their childhood imagination. It is one of the country s most widely acclaimed
Christmas books. The author used a delightful twist on A Visit from St. Nicholas but
with a Cajun(French Canadian descendants in the bayou areas of southern
Louisiana) patois. This parody was published over fourty five years ago by Pelican
publishing, which in turn has also published many other reinterpretations from many
different states. When Milburn Calhoun heard a reading of this story, He enlisted
Rice to provide the colorful illustrations, including the sight of St. Nick on a skiff
drawn by eight magic alligators, (The Cajun Night Before Christmas) and the story
was born. This classic tale of Santa arriving in a skiff, to bring presents to the
children, presents the prolific use of imagery, rich characterization of the unique
Cajun culture, and generous figurative language. This entertaining book puts a spin

The author s purpose was to transform the book A Visit from St. Nicholas into a
relatable read for children of a Cajun descent. Having no experience with the Cajun
language, may give someone trouble understanding what the words mean or even
how to pronounce them. This is the only downfall of this book. A true Cajun would
understand, Den out on de by you dey got such a clatter (7). The interpretation
would read, then out on the bayou they got such a clatter. The author fills in each
line with many Cajun words, such as: gumbo, Boudreau, alligator, skiff, and musk
rat; however, the real Cajun influence of this story is how it is read. He also engages
his readers by not only the Cajun accent, but also with the use of figurative language

Federal Bureau Of Investigations And The Central...
Abstract Upon analyzing 9/11 it was clear to focus on the limitations that the Federal
Bureau of Investigations and the Central Intelligence Agency had faced. Security
breaches and poor intelligence sharing were just some of the critical failures that were
encountered. Moreover, the main focus is pointed towards the miscommunication
between these two agencies. Evidently, the execution and tactical strategies went
unnoticed despite the apparent red flags that presented themselves, in addition to the
Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Central Intelligence Agency failure to
pursue threats and establish a baseline of security resulted in the disaster of 9/11. In
conjunction to these mistakes, the restriction of shared information... Show more

By disregarding cues of possible terrorist attacks and constant mistakes within the
American Intelligence for not planning ahead, the United States failed to achieve its
number one goal as a governing body: not keeping its citizens safe. It is important to
dig into the issue of the disaster of 9/11 and completely understand the reason for
failed prevention efforts. Moreover adding to these issues was the lack of
communication and information shared between the two agencies, the Federal
Bureau of Investigations and Central Intelligence Agency.
When something tragic, devastating even happens, you remember exactly where
you were, who you were with, what you were doing, and how old you were when
it happened. Whether you want to remember it or not is out of your control. It is
tattooed in your brain for good. The moment everyone in America shares in
common is September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Centers were attacked by 19
al Qaeda terrorists. The entire nation went into an immediate state of mourning and
panic as they were discovering the victims of the attacks. Many often asked if there
was something that could have been done to maybe have prevented this from
happening. Was there something on the federal side that could have been done?
What else went wrong other than a blatant attack on the United States? When the
United States was attacked on September 11, I was only 8 years old in
Pablo Escobar Thesis
Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar s ambition and ruthlessness made him one of the
wealthiest, most powerful and most violent criminals of all time (Biography, 2017).
Pablo Escobar was a smart and powerful man who became rich by being a drug
dealer and his drug interest was cocaine. His first rodeo where he got his hustling
training from trafficking and smuggling cigarettes and committing other little petty
crimes. Escobar had only been arrested for possession of drugs one time in his

Interpersonal Communication By Meinig Summary
In this article, Meinig tackles the field of interpersonal communication by using
landscape as a metaphor. It is important to understand that your audience may come
from different educational, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds: and how to
effectively convey an idea across those lines. We, as communicators, must remember
these boundaries exist and do our best to effectively transmit information across them.
The ten views of landscapecan be broadly grouped into four subcategories: landscape
as viewed by a naturalist, scientist, artist or entrepreneur. Naturalists view landscape
as nature, habitat or history; seeing their surroundings as primal forest where human
impact is negligible. Scientists see artifact, systems or a problem. To them
History Of California Sheep Rancher, By Dan Macon, A...
It s like if you woke up one morning and lost 40 percent of the equity in your house,
Dan Macon, a Northern California sheep rancher, says. California has been in a
severe drought for three years. Macon and other farmers in the state are being
forced to sell their stock and find alternative work to pay the bills on top of taking
care of their once prosperous farms. Not only is the drought affecting the way
these farmers and their families live, but it ll eventually start affecting our food
system as long as the conditions persist. It s time for the whole world to start
making sacrifices in these hard times or there will be difficult times ahead.
Farmers aren t the only ones who should be making the effort to preserve water.
Laws should be put in place that control how much of these natural resources
people are allowed to use per month or per year. Resources should be conserved so
time is bought for scientists to find new solutions to the problem. A 40 percent
increase is expected in water demand over the next two decades. Not only that, but
clean water isn t available to one out of five people in the world. Also, only 1
percent of water on Earth is available for human consumption. Solutions are
evidently needed. Water isn t the only natural resource that isn t looking great. In the
last five years the world consumed 27 billion barrels of oil a year, but the oil industry
only discovers three billion a year. Only one barrel is being replaced for every 9
barrels used.

Analysis Of The Poem The King Alcinous
Great king Alcinous, I, Odysseus, destroyer of Troy, will recount a portion of my
great journey to your humble banquet hall and your open arms. I shall continue
where I had let off in my harrowing tale. Upon the seas I laid, my head heavy with
the burden with the prophecy I had acquired from the witch, Circe. My men sang a
boisterous sea shanty, celebratory of their victory over the Sirens. Upon a pine
table sat an aged map, like an old but fair maiden it sat aged but not worn. For this
was a map given to the witch Circe, but now it sat upon the table of the son of
Laertes, Odysseus. The ship creaked upon the sea like the hushed wails of the dead
ripped brutally from life. Scrawled in handwriting fitting of the gods sat a message.

According To Ward Goodenough s The Interpretation Of
Culture
One of the most significant and controversial elements found within the study of
music is the representation of culture. Although the definition of representation
according to Merriam Webster is a person or group that speaks or acts for or in
support of another person or group, it is not as easily said than done. The true act of
representing another is both incredibly complex and challenging as it contains many
subjective variables. History, for example, has demonstrated the complexityof
defining what is true representation through the presence of leaders and authoritative
figures who have failed to truthfully represent the common man. As a result, the
people who have no outlet for expression are represented unjustly by those who do.
Similarly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, culture has become more located in the discussion and ways in which
demonstrate such complexity than truly demonstrating the complexities of man. It is
presumed that in order for true representation to exist, it must be complex and contain
many variables in order to be true. One of the most prominent questions surrounding
representation in ethnography is how to convey complexity, especially in a culture
that is so vast. But if complexity becomes the root of representation, then
representation can very easily become fixated over how to cover all aspects of a
culture and to focus more on the scientific analysis and processes of articulating the
traditions found within a culture than the actual people found within the culture.
Complexity, although still a significant factor in representation, can lead to an
deviation away from what the true focus of representation should be: the people.
Even though representation does indeed contain many complex factors and
unanswered questions, the focus of a study should not centralize solely on how to
answer such questions. The complexity of representation should instead be found
within the thick descriptions of what can be simply answered: the emotions and
beliefs of the people. The only form of complexity found within representation should
be found within the thick descriptions of man, By doing so, the complexities of man
becomes the focus of what true representations involves instead of the complexity of
representation in and of itself. Therefore, representation is and should be a
connection to the people: the source of what truly should be represented in the study

Contemporary Psychodynamic Authors
Contemporary psychodynamic authors define defenses as unconscious mental
processes that function to defend against extreme anxiety (e.g. Valliant, 1994).
Moreover, defenses are observed as being both protectors against unconscious feelings
and relational and cognitive behaviours that protect the self (Cooper, 1998). Currently
there is no consensus as to the number of defenses that exist however, in The Ego and
the mechanisms of Defense Ana Freud (1936/1986) discusses ten. However,
subsequently there has expansion of recognised defences (Kramer 2013). Although,
authors vary on the number of defenses that are present, there is a largely an
agreement on the role of defenses. The function of these defense mechanisms is to
modify internal psychological conditions such as emotions and thoughts by changing
the meaning or implication of perceived threats (Kramer 2013). Defenses are utilised
differently in borderline personality and comparable disorders and therefore
necessitate accurate identification for therapeutic appropriate intervention (Cooper,
1998).
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a severe and dominant psychiatric condition
featuring affective instability, marked impulsivity, and substantial deficits in the
ability to work and sustain meaningful relationships (Hadjipavlou and Ogrodniczuk
2010). In addition, BPD individuals suffer with deep fear of abandonment, identity
conflicts and paranoid ideations (Hadjipavlou and Ogrodniczuk 2010). Further, BPD

Kanye West Runaways
The song Runaway is about Kanye West s failed relationships and him accepting the
media s perception of him. Pusha T contrasts West s very humble verses by rapping
so unabashedly about money, women and cars and I believe he does this to remove
all the glamour surrounding the topics. The song contains a minimalistic and melodic
piano chord with other supporting string instruments that I think West included to
complement his heartfelt and sincere attitude on the song. I think the chorus is about
West being a pessimist, I m so gifted at finding what I don t like the most , and he
can t find anything good enough, which includes his partner who he tells to run away.
I can relate to his attitude of never seeming to find something good enough

Ethnocentrism Response
Njoud Jaber
Response Paper #1
September 16, 2017
When it comes to September 11th attack, I believe many Americans were confused as
to why other countries did not try to help them when they needed it the most. This
made Americans angry and even made an environment of us vs. them. Even after
years have passed since that day that changed the lives of many Americans, we still
can t understand the lengths that suicide bombers and terrorists go because of
ethnocentrism. Prior to the September 11th attack, both Americans and non
Americans were attacked, yet only one was found right and the other is wrong. This
is not to say that terrorist groups are in the right, their invasion is still occurring. But
unlike the United States, they invaded without military like the United States.
Since September 11, American politics and governance has focused on the war of
terror and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Some believe that ethnocentrism

Rhetorical Analysis Of Disney s Frozen
Rhetorical Analysis: Disney s Frozen
Walt Disney Productions prestige is to never disappoint and their latest movie
Frozen, is no exception. The movie centers around the lives of two sisters, kind
hearted Anna and the frightened Snow Queen Elsa. Fearless Anna sets off on a
journey to find her sister, who flees to an icy mountain after she accidentally traps
the kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter with her ice powers. Disney s 2013
animated film reeled in its target audience and more; the film intended to appeal to
children s of all ages surprisingly enough enticed a wider audience largely comprised
of non families. Disney s reputation for promoting happiness and the well being of
American families led to the direct success of the movie Frozen. The film met its
purpose, depicting a touching storyline showing the importance of family and
undermining the traditional concept of true love. Furthermore, Walt Disney
Productions established sufficient credibility within its viewers and audience with
the use of artistic proofs such as; ethos, logos, and pathos. Disney s tradition is to
provide the audience with an educational piece of entertainment, Frozen is
undeniably one of those Disney animated films worth seeing. Walt Disney
Productions strategic use of rhetoric made it evident that the movie was going to be
an all time hit some may even say the biggest children s film of all time simply
because it was just that, a Disney movie.

Biological Weapons And Its Uses
Introduction
Dating back to the 1100 s there have been records of the use of biological weapons
in warfare. This involved the usage of human and animal corpses to pollute water
sources and to spread diseases. Post World War One increased interest in biological
weapons lead to them becoming more advanced. With this improvement it is
evident that warfare has evolved. This progression in warfare can be seen when
looking at the manner in which wars were fought prior to the introduction of
biological weapons in the 1100 s, and comparing it to the manner in which they
were fought succeeding the advancement of these weapons in the 1900 s. Although
biological weapons have rarely been used, their effects on warfare are apparent.
When studying biological weapons one must deliberate on the factors that have
driven its use and creation as well as the responses and threats thereof. This essay
will therefore focus on depicting biological weapons and their uses throughout
history; beginning with its most medieval applications in siege warfare and
comparing it to its various uses in World War One, Japan in the 1920 s , the Cold War
and the Persian Gulf War. The reasons as to why biological weapons have been used
and created differ in each circumstance, ranging from its advantageousness in
imperialism to its role in instilling fear. Furthermore, to properly determine the
impact of biological weapons on warfare this essay will examine the outcomes of its
use. With the main response being the
The Legal Relationship Between Company And Its Members
Essay
Corporation origin from the Latin word Corpus which means body. It is formed by
a group of people and has separate rights and liability from those individual. In any
means, corporation exists independently from its owner and this principle is called
the doctrine of separate personality. Doctrine of separate personality is the basic and
fundamental principle in a Company Law. This principle outline the legal
relationship between company and its members. Company s assets belong to the
company not the shareholders as assets are the equity for creditors. Company must
use up all its assets to pay off the creditors if it became insolvent. The same applies to
the corporations debts. For limited liabilities company, the shareholder liability is
limited which means that the shareholder is restricted to the number of shares they
paid and not personally liable for the corporation s debts. If the company does not
have enough equity to pay off debts, the creditors cannot come after the
shareholders. However, limited liability company can be very powerful when in
hands who do fraud and on defeating creditors claims. Courts then can ignore the
doctrine for exception cases and lifting the corporate veil. Lifting the corporate veil
is a situation where courts put aside limited liability and hold a corporation s
shareholders or directors personally liable for the corporation s debts.
The leading case for this doctrine is between Salomon v A Salomon Co in 1897.

Federalist No.10’s Faction and Direct Vs. In Direct
Democracy
In Federalist No.10, James Madison discusses his theories about faction. In doing
this, he persuades the new Constitution and how it should be enacted. He believed
factions were the number one cause of the failure of the Articles of Confederation.
The definition of a faction is a group of people forming a minority group within a
larger group, to seek some goal within a political party or government. Madison
describes faction differently in Federalist No.10, but in actuality the definitions have
the same meaning. Madison s definition is derived from a listing of requirements.
Requirement number one indicates that factions are determined by the number of
citizens. Citizens of a government share a common interest which makes them a...

In doing so, he proposes that the government should regulate the interest of society
so faction is not easily formed. Regulation should be the legislature s principal task
in creating a more united society. Without focus on principal tasks, Madison
describes how chaotic the faction can become. To prevent this, the government
should be an empowered body of people, who come together to make and change
laws. No one person should have to the power to judge their own opinions. Giving a
person the power of judging themselves can cause many bias, and therefore being
inactive. There is no cure for faction. Madison explains that the only way to deal with
causes of faction is by controlling its effects. This is where the constitution comes into
play, providing security of the public good and the rights of other citizens. To assure
constitution, democracy is enacted to form a more civilized community governed by
the people. The way democracy is organized is determined by the ideas of being
direct or indirect. Direct Democracy is defined by people as a whole who make
direct decisions, rather than having decisions made by other representatives. In
Madison s Federalist No.10 he states, a pure democracy can admit of no cure for the
mischief s of factions
Counterfeiting And Piracy Of Fashion Design
Counterfeiting and piracy of fashion design are illegal, unethical, takes legitimate
profits away from the company, and is not safe. Counterfeiting and Piracy are nearly
considered a $450 billion dollar industry (do the right thing, n.d.). It includes selling,

This protects fashion designer s patterns and/or designs they originally create. In 2012
the senate passed a Fashion bill that extends protection for fashion designers, and their
copyrighted designs for up to three years.(Hertzfeld, 2013). Infringement occurs when
counterfeiters sell and produce fashion designs they do not have the copyrights to.
Designers invest creatively and intellectually to develop their product. This is known
as Intellectual property. Intellectual property also includes innovative ideas and
thought processes invested by the designer. This includes, but not limited to
developing the product, creating the logo, thinking of a name for the product,
making sure the quality exceeds expectations, etc. Is not being considered when a
buyer pays for knockoff goods and the seller gets the profits. However, a fashion
designer s investment does not stop there.
Trademarking is another way fashion designers invest to protect their designs.
Trademarking includes the protection of the packaging, color scheme, and labeling
just to name a few, of the designers product. Sellers don t see the harm in making a
little extra money, the companies make millions. Buyers don t see the harm, because
it looks good. However, per CNBC counterfeit goods may have a reputation for poor
design, unsafe parts and toxic elements, but consumers don t seem to mind. No

Gender Differences Between Work And Life
In Manage your work, manage your life, Groysberg and Abrahams use research
and survey data to show gender differences on how success is viewed. There were
some similarities and obvious gender differences in answers. On another note the
article by Stewart Friedman, Work + home + community + self, the main focus is
on three key principles to focus on to be better at integration between work and life.
Each article s content can be a guide in careerplanning and to help with one s
professionaldevelopment.
The article Manage your work, manage your life discusses the popular topic of
work and life balance. Interviews were conducted and researched with over 4,000
executives worldwide and 82 executives in a leadership course over a five year
course (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). They broke down and compared men and
women to determine how they defined what professional success means to them,
what personal success means and what their partners contribute (Groysberg and
Abrahams, 2014). The survey data showed some true gender differences on what each
values more. A large number of women define professional success by their
individual achievement over everything else. Men on the other hand define it by
making a difference, next to working with a good team in a good environment and
respect from others (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). When asked what personal
success meant to men and women both chose rewarding relationships with family,
people they love and community at the

Ronald Wilson s Five Star Tattoos
NEW YORK (WENY) New legislation in New York could soon make it harder for
tattoo shops and artists to operate. A new law signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo
will place tougher restrictions on what equipment tattoo shops can use.
Under New York State law, tattoo and body piercing studios will have to switch to
single use needles and single use ink. Most tattoo studios already use single use
sterile needles but when it comes to switching to single use ink packets that could be
tricky. Ronald Wilson, from Five Star Tattoo, in Elmira Heights, says tattoo
companies don t make single use ink packets. Wilson says Millienium Ink used to

artists found them wasteful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No tattoo artist worth their soul pours ink back into the bottle, that s just ridiculous
and it s unheard of in the professional community, says Wilson.
The law will also require the specialist and the person getting the tattoo or piercing
to sign a consent form confirming the specialist showed them the sealed single use
package, and opened it in front of them. The studio would then have to keep those
forms for seven years. Wilson says unless those consent form were notarized, they
would be pointless and just take up space. We would have to keep stacks and stacks
of paper. We d literally have to get a separate storage unit for the paperwork, explains
Wilson.
Michael Bjorck, who is on his fourth tattoo and also works as a paramedic, says he
feels most tattoo shops self regulate to keep up with health standards. We don t
really see people seeking out medical care, at least in a hospital, for infections
related to tattoos. Do they happen, yes, but we see a lot more people who have post

Abstract In this paper two set of edge texture features is proposed such as
Discriminative Robust Local Binary Pattern (DRLBP) and Discriminative Robust
Local Ternary Pattern (DRLTP) for objectrecognition. The proposed DLBP and
DRLTP are derived from the drawback of the Local Binary Pattern (LBP), Local
Ternary Pattern (LTP) and Robust LBP (RLBP).The LBP code and the RLBP code
are mapped in the same block .The proposed feature solves the problem of
discrimination between a bright object against dark background and vice versa. The
proposed feature retains contrast information for representation of object contours
the LBP, LTP and RLBP discards. By this proposed features the objects in the image

General Motors, JPY USD Exposure
Executive Summary
General Motors Corporation, the world s largest automaker, has an extensive global
outreach, which places the firm in competition with automakers worldwide, and
subjects itself to significant exchange rate exposure. In particular, despite most of its
revenues and production being derived from North America, depreciating yen rates
pose problems for the firm indirectly through economic exposure. While GM
possesses passive hedging strategies for balance sheet and income statement
exposures, management has not yet quantified or recognized solutions to possible

dollars. Having appreciating USD in their assets column, with depreciating yen in
their liabilities column, this has lowered cost structure and expanded profit
margins for firms such as Nissan, Honda and Toyota. Now, these automakers are
able to pass on their reduced costs to consumers via sticker price reductions
between 15 45% of cost savings, or through added incentives. According to Exhibit
6, as of 2000, per vehicle incentives of GM ($1,969) far exceeds those of Toyota and
Honda, at $725 and 664, respectively; this competitive advantage GM currently
holds, as well as its relative market share in the U.S., are endangered if Japanese
firms choose to move their incentive values closer to the industry average. Looking
into the competitive threat more closely, the auto industry in the United States is
rather sensitive to price, with a price elasticity of 2, or a 5% increase in price
contributing to a subsequent 10% fall in demand. Thus, based upon the sticker price
decreases potentially implemented by Japanese automakers, Japanese companies
combined market share (roughly 4.1m units in 2000) stands to increase substantially,
and could eat into General Motors overall market share. To highlight the sensitivity to
the USD JPY spot exchange rate, GM s VP of Finance, Eric Feldstein, suggests that
just a one yen depreciation increases competitors operating profit by $400m. With
$900m in net yen receivables, $500m in outstanding yen denominated bonds, and

Being a self governing nation, the United States trusts on its citizens to help in the
creation and loud out of laws and policies. In the case of immigration policy, in
order for these policies to be fruitful, the government must have the help and care
of the United States citizens. In this desire for the support and ability to trust in its
people, the government also needs the readiness of citizens to aid in the course of
noticing unlawful immigrants. However, for one reason or another, the people of
the United States often do not live up their tasks as citizens, and just overlook their
duty to report illegal immigrants to the government. For example, when a boss
hires an illegal immigrant for nothing more than low cost labor, that boss is not
obeying to the rules set forth by law. There is a number of other persons who also
neglect to report illegal immigrants for numerous reasons, such as those in favor of
illegal immigration. Such disregard for the law only weakens the rules set forth by
the government and, ultimately, hinders the enforcement of said laws. Here lies the
problem with present day immigration, as the government simply does not have the
volume to fully tool the current policies and laws that it has set forth. From huge
limits to defiant citizens, the United States government is delayed from applying
their own policies of immigration. With the failure to apply the law, the United

Basaltic Vs Rhyolitic Essay
Explain the differences between Basaltic, Rhyolitic and Andesitic volcanic eruptions
with reference to processes, which lead to the eruptions, the type of volcano produced
and the reasons for the differences between the material erupted by these volcanoes.
Volcanic eruptions are caused by a red hot liquid rock, called magma inside the
earth s core. Volcanoes erupt when magma rises to the surface of the earth, which
causes bubbles of gas to appear in it. This gas can cause pressure to build up in the
mountain, and it eventually explodes. When the magma bursts out of the earth, it is
called lava. The type of magma in the earth can create different volcanoes. If the
magma is quite thin, the gas can escape easily and there will not be an ... Show more

Lastly, there are Destructive Plate Margins and conservative plate margins.
Destructive Plate Margins are the places where the Earth s crust is being destroyed at
the same rate as they are being formed at the constructive plate margins. Oceanic
Convergence is where oceanic and continental plates meet. As oceanic plates are
denser they go down toward the Mantel; this is subduction. Sediments that have
accumulated at the bottom of the ocean form land mass as they rise as they melt due
to the magma, through the continental crust and then re appear as the continent. Also,
there is oceanic convergence. This is where two oceanic plates meet; one is forced
under the other. Oceanic trenches are formed and island arcs; (Hawaii). Lastly, there
are continental convergence where two continent plates meet and sediment is forced
up to form mountains. And, Conservative Margins are where two plates slide over
each other and there is neither creation nor destruction takes place. There is no
subduction or volcanic activity. However, the plates move
Nhl Profit Maximization Case Study
Do NHL teams profit maximize? Explain how the authors come to this conclusion.
Overview:
Before we dive into the details on whether the NHL team or any sports team for that
matter maximize profit, it would be worthwhile to answer 2 basic questions as put
forth by the author:
пЃ¶Would a sports fan not go to a game which he is die hard fan of because he/she
thinks the team profit maximizes?
пЃ¶Would a sports team forego additional revenue?
As with any commodity, price of an arena seat is set by supply and demand. This is
why it always rings false when NHL execs try to link ticket prices to player salaries.

quantity of output demanded to the market price (dependent variable) for that output.
Quantity demanded, Q, is a function of price; the inverse demand function treats price
as a function of quantity demanded, and is also called the price function.
Contrary to what we think, an inverse demand function is NOT the reciprocal of the
demand function the word inverse refers to the mathematical concept of an inverse
function.
In mathematical terms, if the demand function is f(P),in which P is price, so the
value of the function is the quantity demanded (Q), then the inverse demand function
is f 1(Q), whose value is the highest price that could be charged and still generate the
quantity demanded Q. This is to say that the inverse demand function is the demand
function with the axes switched. This is useful because economists typically place
price (P) on the vertical axis and quantity (Q) on the horizontal axis.
The inverse demand function is the same as the average revenue function, since
Country Road Essay example
Country Road has been an iconic Australian brand for 36 years, building its success
on its high quality and unique designs that look effortlessly casual yet stylish.
Following the high financial performances of their Australian stores, Country Road
decided to embark into the United States of America (US) in 1989, in hope of
realising the financial gains they saw here. Unfortunately, their strategies didn t work,
and they found obstacles which hindered their success in the US. This essay
examines the types of strategies Country Road has pursued and what led Country
Road to follow an international expansion strategy. Further, we discuss the
impediments to Country Road succeeding in the US retail market, before suggesting

Country Road did this by lowering their selling prices but at the same time,
maintaining the quality of their clothing. To do this, they have sourced for suppliers
that are willing to cooperate with them in cost reductions (Australia s best retail,
2011). This is a win win situation for both Country Road and their suppliers where
Country Road gets to reduce their cost to maintain profit and their suppliers gained
good reputations. Another strategy they have used on cost reduction is by
introducing product distribution directly from their China based distribution centre in
year 2007, which eventually reduced their operating cost and lead time (Annual
report, 2007). In addition, Country Road also pursues a differentiation strategy. This
can be seen by the unique architecture and layout of their stores which makes them
stand out from their rivals that were located geographically close and also the
marketing of their Australian brand image (Kerr Sarina, 2006).
Country road has been well established as an Australian brand in Australia before it
engaged in globalization. Having a strong foothold in the Australia fashion, it is one
of the most representable and well favoured fashion brands in Australia. With its
growing success, this gave the firm the confidence to venture into the global market
and had the capabilities to do so after Myer Emporium
The Disillusion Of Middlemarch
This chapter focuses on analyzing and explaining the four main story lines in this
novel. It focuses on describing the disillusion, exploring the reasons and making a
short summary. Middlemarch represents a frustrating scene through these four
story lines. In this small town, people deliberately plan, engineer, elaborate and
pursue. But the outcome backfires. The end is frustrated or just passable. Each
person s disillusion is caused by both social reasons and personal reasons. Everyone
should be responsible for their failure and desperation. 1.Dorothea Mr. Casaubon Will

A Short Note On The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
Thunnus Thynnus, or the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, is one of the largest species of tuna,
weighing in at over 600 kilograms and four meters in length. It is known for its
speed and takes the shape of a torpedo. In its environment, the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
acts as one of the top predators. It preys on smaller fish, such as herring, mackerel
and eels. The Atlantic Bluefin Tunais separated into two main populations, Eastern
and Western. Although located in different geographical areas they are not isolated
and individuals migrate between the two populations allowing gene flow. The
Atlantic Bluefin Tuna s population ranges all through the pelagic zone of the
Atlantic. The Western Atlantic population spawns in the Gulf of Mexico, and the
Eastern Atlantic population spawns in the Mediterranean Sea. In the fishing industry
it is highly coveted for sports fishing, especially in the United States and Canada,
and in the sashimi market for high end sushi. As a result of the high demands for the
Tuna it is being heavily overfished causing the population to decline dramatically.
The low supply and high demand for the Tuna has made them extremely valuable; a
single fish in Tokyo s Tsukiji fish market sold for 1.76 million dollar (Bluefin, 2013).
This high value of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna has resulted in illegal pirate fishing
causing more harm to the population. If the illegal pirate fishing and overfishing of
the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna continues, the species will become extinct resulting
The Role Of War In George Orwell s Wagged Arms
For many, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the word war is a
cause, moreover fighting for beliefs or ethics that radically differ from the
opposing side s. However, a more universal similarity between wars, fiction or
nonfiction, is economic gain. In 1984, The Eyre Affair, and Sherlock Holmes: A
Game of Shadows, the antagonist has the same motivation for the same action; each
aim to start a major war in order to sell weapons that they produce, earning a
substantial profit for the world s distress. In George Orwells novel, 1984 (along with
the movie adaptation), Big Brother and The Party control Oceania under
totalitarianistic rule while the super state is at perpetual war. The war, while
seemingly pointless and merely the cause of entangled alliances, is 1... Show more

Although some citizens are against the war, Jack Schitt, head of Goliath
Corporation is for the war for a surprisingly rational reason; the Crimea[n] [war] is
good...good for England and especially good for the economy (Fforde, 212). Schitt
reveals Goliath Corporation s true intentions after Acheron Hades leaves a note for
Thursday Next, prompting her to uncover more information behind Hades s intent
and the disappearance of her Uncle. As a result, Schitt reveals the truth behind war;
war stabilizes nations involved and their economy through arms production. While
soldiers fight for a cause, businesses like Goliath create jobs for those still in the
country and gain profit from selling their weaponry, cycling some of the money back
to the people of the nation. Although it is not ideal to have to fight for economic
standing, and killing for the nation s prosperity isn t necessarily ethical, without it

The Themes Of Popular Culture
Why Themes in Popular Culture are Important to Study
The study of popular culture is useful in many ways. To be more specific, this course
has reached its three intended main ideas: what it means to be American, how to be
more consumption conscious, and how to apply these studies in our own lives. Jim
Cullen puts this in a less specific sense, arguing that the study of popular culture can
afford valuable clues about collective fears, hopes, and debates (Cullen, The Art of
Democracy, 2). We use these clues to understand the world around us, as well as why
we do what we do as Americans and as humans. I will be touching on themes that
relate to this quotation by Cullen, escapism, exploitation, and globalization, as well as
how these themes relate to the course goals.
For most of the twentieth century, [popular culture] has been denigrated by
intellectuals of all ideological stripes as either meaningless escapism or a
dangerous narcotic (Cullen 2). Popular culture is a form of escapism; however, I
would argue against those intellectuals calling it meaningless, because, as we have
also learned from Cullen, the elites will reject new forms of popular culture.
Returning to escapism, an example we have seen is in comic books. Adolescent
boys would turn to comics as a source of escapism. For example, lower class second
generation Jewish immigrants, searching for their place to fit in society, created
Superman. Their comics appealed to young boys, in a post Depression era, with
Designing A Product That Influences Through The Product...
Abstract
The paper aims at sensitizing designers towards the voices of every stakeholder
involved in designing a product that influences through the product life cycle, in a
comprehensible way with an objective to facilitate designer towards a better
design. This paper discusses the basic purpose and nature of design in the context
of judging the aptness of a dialogue among the stakeholders including product in
itself. It also discusses the kind of outcome based on designers stand in the design
process which makes the conversation dialogical or arguing in nature. The paper
proposes Design Tree as a structure, for creating distinct platforms for dialogue to
happen at all stages of design evolution for design dialogue to be comprehensible.
Introduction
Louis I Kahn in his lecture was explaining the importance of honoring building
material. The designer is at a junction and he has to choose a path. He has to decide
between economy and honor of material. The decision, that designer takes, is case
specific and depends on various other factors as the case might be.
The decision of whether to go logical or intuitive is discussed by many authors and
designers in many ways, some supporting logical or rational views and others
intuitive or art based. Kahn s quote mentioned above emphasizes on intuitive
decision (as an honor towards the material) over logical way (which is the economy).
Christopher Alexander in his book Notes on the Synthesis of Form discusses whether

How Did Michael Jackson Transform The World
Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson transformed the world by addressing some of the most pressing and
yet underrated social issues through his lyrics. Ultimately, his efforts unearned to
connect with the audience through addressing personal and communal issues earned
him the King of Pop title. This is presented in this song the Billie Jean which depicts
a reflective of Jackson s challenge to mitigate the challenges of fame, gender, and
family related issues in American and across the globe (Manchin, 2011). Billie Jean
is a warning tale that highlights the threats of getting involved and breaking women s
heart and feelings. In the song, Jackson notes that mother always requested me to be
careful of who I love and act with caution because ultimately the lie becomes the truth.
This phrase allows us to understand his real feelings and what fuels his realistic and
yet fascinating tales of human suffering and assimilation into the contemporary social
standards.
Throughout his musical career Michael Jackson sang about his individualized
experiences as well as an observation regarding human suffering, racial prejudice, and
social assimilation challenges thus reminding the world that we are equal.
Throughout his life, Jackson struggled as a black artist particularly back in the 20th
century when he rose from Motown and participated in Off the Wall documentary
(Johnson, 2016). He gained recognition based on his unending interest in the black

Glass Trace Evidence Essay
Glass
Importance of Glass Trace Evidence Unique characteristics and properties of glass
may provide valuable information to investigators. Glass is made of materials
having no definite form on their own melted together and cooled to rigidity without
crystallization ( Glass , 2011). Glass can be made in varying thicknesses, colors, and
with patterns and designs or smooth. Glass may be produced in a manner that
reduces or prevents shattering, resulting in small pieces rather than slivers or fine
powder like pieces (Saferstein, 2009). The density and refractive index of glass
fragments can be used to determine if the fragments originated from a single source
item, such as a broken window on a home, or from various items. The ... Show more

The sharp edges of broken glass can easily cut the evidence collector, and the blood
contaminates the evidence. Because broken glass may be a fine powder like
substance the evidence collector should also wear a mask covering the mouth and
nose. Eye protection is also recommended.
Identification and Analysis Analyzing glass is a complex process. The properties
of glass are found and measured to enable forensic scientists to identify glass from
the same source or to eliminate sources ( Saferstein, 2009). Complete
reconstruction of glass fragments is rarely possible due to glass often shattering
into a fine powder like substance. When complete reconstruction is possible
though the glass can be identified as coming from a single source item. When all
the glass fragments from a scene can be pieced together the glass can be identified
as coming from a single source item. Additionally, because glass is manufactured
on a large scale identification from a single source of manufacture is extremely
difficult (Saferstein, 2009). Glass can be identified as belonging to a specific item,
such as a headlight, but identification of the make and model of vehicle is nearly
impossible. Glass fragments can be identified as originating from a single item or
multiple items. The distinction is characterized as class
The History Of Bach And The Baroque Era
Transitioning from the Renaissance Era to Baroque Era introduced a new
approach musical styles, such as concerto and sonata. Coming from the Portuguese
term barroco, or oddly shaped pearl , the Baroque Era was heavily influenced with
the Catholic Church from the early 1600s to the 1700s. The Renaissance Era
focuses on the exploration, discovery and rebirth; on the contrary, the Baroque Era
focuses on the Catholic Church and its exaggerated expressions. The Baroque Era
came out with European Western compositions that most of us are familiar with
today, such as Pachelbel s Canon and Vivaldi s Four Season. Along with the eras
well known compositions, the Baroque Era also included well known composers
like Vivaldi and Handel. However, J.S. Bach is perhaps the greatest composer of all
times during the Baroque Era with famous pieces such as Toccata and Fugue in D
Minor, Mass in B Minor and Brandenburg Concerto. J.S. Bach, short for Johann
Sebastian Bach, is a prominent composer during the Baroque Era. Bach was born in
Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany on March 31, 1685. He is the youngest son of his
parents, Johann Ambrosius Bach and Elizabeth Lammerhirt Bach. Because he came
from seven generations of musicians, it was not unusual that Bach became a musician
and composer himself. In fact, Bach s father and brother are both church organist.
Although Bach is well known for his organ skills, his musical career did not start
with an organ. In fact, it started with violin lessons with
Chinese Immigrants To Canada
During the early 20th century, Asian immigrants who came to Canada faced a great
deal of backlash from Canadian society. Among these men and women who came
overseas, the Chinese suffered the brunt of the racial discrimination that ran rampant
in Canada, and were treated distinguishably worse than any other group of
immigrants. Although many other immigrants were met with prejudice and racial
stereotyping on arrival, there was no other group that experienced the same level of
organized racism as Chinese immigrants did. Discriminatory acts were not only
conducted on a communal and societal level, but also found its way into Canadian
politics. What resulted from this was a national effort to limit the Chinese from both

Chinese immigrants were not only denounced for their negative impact on Canada s
economy, but as a greater threat towards Canada s culture. As such, many community
leaders, labour organization leaders and even government officials called for
exclusionary measures against Chinese immigrants, ranging from stripping them of
their ability to organize to implementing harsh limitations on immigration and
business conduct. It was assumed by labour leaders that Asian workers were
impossible to organize, and therefore felt they had no choice but to demand
exclusionary policies, regardless of the Asian involvement in labour militancy which
closely aligned with the goals of Canadian labour unions (Goutor, 2007, 554). At the
time, many other policies were also enacted to severely limit the already scarce
amount of freedom that Chinese immigrants had, one of which was the Act to
Prevent the Employment of Female Labour in Certain Capacities which was a
statute that made it a criminal offense for Chinese men to employ white women
(Backhouse, 1996, 315). The act was put into motion by the propaganda fed fear of
Chinese men, who were regularly portrayed as sexual predators [that] sought to take
advantage of white women (Goutor, 2007, 556). The Chinese Immigration Act came
into effect in 1923,

The Sound Of Silence Movie Analysis
How did you respond to THE GRADUATE? Did the storyline and characters hold
your interest?
What about Benjamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman)? Did you in any way
relate to his issues: specifically, what will he end up doing with his life now that he is
a college graduate; what will his future be; will he ever genuinely fall in love?
And even more specifically: How did you respond to the finale, and to what occurs
both in the church and on the bus?
Also, what about the infamous Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft)? Was she little more
than a villainess: a completely selfish, self centered person? Or was there something
deeper within her? Was there a sense of sadness about her, a feeling that she was
living a life unfulfilled?
THE GRADUATE(1967) is an American classic movie, directed by the very talented

Ship Of Theseus Research Paper
In ancient Greece, the people of Athens dedicated a memorial in honor of King
Theseus by preserving his naval ship in the port. This ship of Theseus stayed in
port for hundreds of years. As time past, some of the wooden planks of Theseus
ship began to rot away. To keep the ship preserved and presentable, the rotting
planks were replaced with new planks made of the same material. This is where the
key question lies; if you replace one of the planks, is it still the same ship of Theseus?
This question addresses one of the most interesting problems in all of philosophy,
namely the problem of identity. How do things stay the same even after they
change? At what point does an object become different? When we talk about a
certain object and say that it changed, what exactly is it ? Some maintain that
changing one plank changes the ship and makes it no longer the ship of Theseus.
Others claim that as long as there is at least one plank from the original, it is still the
original. There are also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After some time, all the old planks are assembled into a ship. This new construction
is made to look exactly like the old ship with the planks in their original position.
Which ship has the right to call itself the ship of Theseus, the ship with the replaced
planks or the ship constructed out of the old planks? This argument refers to the
history of the ship. The ship of Theseus is what it is because of its history. Only the
original Theseus sailed the sea and partook in the Ancient Greek battles so only the
original should be called the Theseus. What this argument brings to light is the idea
that once something or someone is duplicated there are two options. One being that
there is now an existential twin and the other that the original now ceases to be. To
add on to this third argument one could also mention the soul of the
Teaching And Learning Department Of Teaching
I am currently enrolled as a teacher candidate within Southeastern Louisiana
University s College of Education and Human Development under the Department of
Teaching and Learning. The department is continuously giving its teacher candidates
the opportunity to display all of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to
become a truly effective educator in the first through fifth grade classroom setting.
The Teaching and Learning Department encourages its teacher candidates to strive
for excellence and professionalism constantly. One way this is displayed is through
the Conceptual Framework. In order to be an effective educator, the Conceptual
Framework must be exhibited in the classroom. This includes demonstrating
knowledge of the learner, implementing different strategies and methods that are
accommodating to different learners and engage students continuously, displaying
professional standards in the workplace at all times, and having sufficient content
knowledge. A truly effective educator takes into account the knowledge of the
learners in her classroom and modifies her lessons accordingly, using different
strategies and methods to reach as many of her students as possible. Her lessons will
appeal to a variety of learning styles and learning needs by using Bloom s Levels of
Taxonomy along with Gardner s Multiple intelligences. An effective teacher always
sets a positive example for her students by continuously motivating them and
encouraging them to do their best

The Setting in Hound of the Baskervilles and The Signalman
The Hound of the Baskervilles was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1902
carrying the genre of a horror story, whilst The Signalman was written by Charles
Dickens in 1860, carrying the genre of a ghost story.
Both writers use the same type of setting throughout the novels which is dismal,
shadowy and perspirating.
At the time when both novels were written, the readers who read both of the novels
believed that ghosts and huge hounds which prowled moonless, glum heaths actually
existed. This had a greater effect on the reader in the late nineteenth to the early
twentieth century than it does today because not many people living ... Show more

Grimpen Mire is a place where A false step yonder means death to man or beast
compared to The Signalman which is set in the same place the whole way through
the text. This leads the reader to think that the writer has created a character which
is lonely and therefore might be going mad as a consequence. The Signalman is a
partially gothic tale which deals with strange, ghostly appearances whilst the main
body of the story is being narrated by the traveller who is involved by Dickens only

the only purpose for the traveller being there.
The three main settings in The Hound of the Baskervilles are Baker Street which is
Sherlock Holmes place of residence, Dartmoor and Baskerville Hall whereas in The
Signalman the main setting is the signal box and the entrance to the tunnel. The
writers don t seem to vary the settings in both novels which convey to the reader that
the writer is keeping the setting in the same place so that the reader gets to know the
characteristics of the setting in detail.
Conan Doyle s creation of Sherlock Holmes is very important to the detective horror
story genre because he satisfies most readers in terms of the personality of Sherlock
Holmes by the way that he is a brilliant

  • 1. Marijuana Essays Writing an essay on the topic of "Marijuana Essays" can be both challenging and intriguing. The subject itself is multifaceted, encompassing various aspects such as the historical, cultural, legal, medical, and social dimensions of marijuana use. The complexity arises from the need to navigate through these diverse perspectives and present a well-balanced, informed, and nuanced discussion. Firstly, delving into the historical context requires a thorough exploration of marijuana's origins, its early uses, and its evolution over time. Understanding its cultural significance involves analyzing how different societies view and incorporate marijuana, considering both its traditional and contemporary roles. On the legal front, the landscape is dynamic and varies widely across different regions and jurisdictions. This adds an extra layer of complexity, requiring updated research on current laws, ongoing debates, and potential shifts in legislation. The medical aspect introduces another dimension, necessitating an examination of the scientific research surrounding marijuana's potential benefits and risks. This involves sifting through a plethora of studies, considering conflicting viewpoints, and synthesizing information to present a well-rounded perspective. The social implications of marijuana use further complicate the essay, as opinions on this issue can be highly polarized. • 2. The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and Terry Gilliam have opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote their texts in. Thomas Malory, author of Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes his version as a script for a movie. While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative, Gilliam writes his movie as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of King Arthur, and Malory uses his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend. While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grailboth share a common plot, the works differ on intended purpose and tone. The audiences each author tries to appease changes each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is trying to appease a fifteenth century audience who is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair due to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry Gilliamis trying to entertain a more modern audience that wants a humorous and satirical movie. The intended purpose of each of the authors, differ in that each are delivering their works to a situationally different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le Morte d Arthur was written, people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a history of tyrannical kings. Even so, one of the worst Kings of England ever was King Richard III who was reigning just as the book was written. Although King Richard was not the
  • 3. The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping... The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping Peace The League of Nations repeatedly failed in keeping the peace because, first of all Hitler went against the Treaty of Versailles and started World War 2 yet the League of Nations failed to react. The Treaty of Versailles also failed because Mussolini in Abyssinia went against the league and Manchuria also contributed towards the failure to keep the peace. The structure of the league didnГ‚ t help as the council only met once a year. The power of the league was very weak as there was no military force. Finally the lack of strong nations joining the league contributed to the failure of the League of Nations. The League of Nations failed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The League of Nations also failed because Mussolini, a dictator from Italy, prepared to invade Abyssinia. Abyssinia then asked the League for help; while the League of Nations talked to Mussolini he used the time to send an army into Africa. The League of Nations then suggested giving Abyssinia to Italy. Mussolini ignored the League of Nations and invaded Abyssinia. In secret however Britain and France agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy, the Hoare Laval Pact. Manchuria became a factor or the failure of the League of Nations in 1932 when the Japanese army invaded Manchuria and threw out the Chinese residents. They then set up their own government called the Г‚ ManchoukuoГ‚ . When china asked the League of Nations for help it sent a group of officials led by Lord Lytton to study the problem, this however took a year, but in February 1933 they ordered Japan to leave Manchuria. However Japan refused to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations. As many countries had important trading links with Japan the League of Nations couldnГ‚ t agree on sanctions or even ban weapon sales. Britain and France didnГ‚ t want a war therefore nothing was done. This showed the League of Nations as weak and powerless therefore adding to the failures and breakdown of the League of Nations. The way the League of Nations was
  • 4. The Beginning Of A New Church Year Introduction: The season of Advent marks the beginning of a new church year. It is a season of preparation. Advent is a time when we prepare to celebrate the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. And Advent is also a time for us to be alert so that we remain prepared for our Lord s return at His Second Coming. During these four weeks of the Advent season, in the midst of all of our preparedness, we are reminded that God comes to us into our sin and brokenness and gives us a new beginning in our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Our text for today is from the first eight verses of Mark s Gospel, which opens with the announcement that the beginning is at hand: This is the beginning of the preaching of the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This beginning, we re told, is announced by John the Baptizer, who ...came on the scene ...baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. John s baptizing activity attracted a lot of people. Inhabitants from all over the Judean countryside and all of Jerusalem went out to the wilderness to be baptized by John and to hear his message about the coming Savior the One whose sandal thong he was not worthy enough to untie; the One who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. John s message was effective and drew great crowds because he brought people what they needed most: the forgiveness of sins. And he prepared them for something new that was about to begin the reign and

  • 6. High Class Beer And Low Class Fashion High Class Beer Sold In Low Class Fashion An advertisement can be a lot like a persuasive essay. A promoter wants their audience to buy their product much like a essay writer wants their audience to buy into their thesis. Just like an essay an advertisement has a criteria in which it must fulfill in order to achieve its goal. Certain things the creators do will either help entice the audience, or will deter the audience from ever looking at the ad again. The general public will see thousands of ads in a single day, but only a handful of them will ever standout and be memorable. When creating an ad for a magazine; some of the simplest mistakes can turn a great promotion into just another page. For an ad to be successful it must be both... Next there is very large text in the lower center of the page. The slogan is in entirely in capital letters, and is in bold and block like font. In the lower left corner of the ad there is an average sized, red and white Miller logo. To the right of the logo is another slogan, that is in cursive and regular sized font. Below that is another slogan in small font. This ad s visual design doesn t work because there is too much for the reader to focus on in this ad. The creators hoped to use the contrast of the color product in the foreground of the black and white photograph to bring focus to the product. However, the exact opposite is what ensues. The black and white photo along with the large bold text in the lower center actually draws the audiences attention away from the product. The reader could look at this ad and not even notice the colored in Miller High Life bottle. The colored product is also too large, and it ruins any symmetrical balance. Furthermore it is covering the second woman, and bringing her out of focus. This gives the reader the impression that she is not important. The audience will suffer the most from
  • 7. The Burning Of Petroleum Based Fuels Can you see the light? As the burning of petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal continues, smog will continue to cover the sky. Pollution from said burning occurs as greenhouse gases and chemicals. Specifically, petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal release energy when heat breaks the bonds between hydrogens and carbons, generating energy and releasing carbon dioxide and water as byproducts. This energy often originates from stored energy preserved in organisms that eventually died and lingered in the crust. The byproduct carbon dioxide is the most dominant of the greenhouse gases, which are gases that absorb and release thermal energy from the Sun. These gases trap thermal energy in the atmosphere while releasing a small amount into space. Global warming occurs due to the trapping of this heat. Their covering of the sky and Sun reduces the amount of sunlight that can reach the Earth. In addition, these energy sources are also bulky and inefficient. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (2014), producing even one kilowatt hour of energy (one kilowatt of electricity expended in one hour), 0.08 gallons of petroleum based fuel, 1000 cubic feet of natural gases, and 1.09 pounds of coal ( How much coal, natural gas, or petroleum is used to generate a kilowatt hour 1 of electricity? ). Despite the availability of alternative energy sources, most people prefer these dirty energy sources. Solar power shows promise as a potential alternative.

One such machine that has made great strides in the last century is the automobile. Mobility has always been my area of fascination; the working of a simple bicycle to the advanced Formula One car has always made me curious. During my high school studies I was a student of science and mathematics, both these subjects helped me in unraveling the mysteries of nature by better understanding principles that govern its working. I have participated in several school and inter school science projects, one such project that left lasting impression was that of a study on gear mechanism used in various tools, fascinated by the same I was on self propelled path of discovery. I am driven by asking the questions: why? and how? and this curiosity developed into a passion for machines as a whole and led me to do an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering from PVG S College of Engineering and Technology under the prestigious University of Pune, a leading academic institution in the automotive hub of India, Pune. The four year course exposed me to many fascinating subjects, my interest evolved as I explored subjects like Manufacturing Process, Theory of Machines, Metallurgy, Fluid Mechanics, Machine Design, Power Transmission System, IC engines etc. I have tried to be in tune with the latest Mechanical technologies by attending courses offered by automotive industry itself,

Analysis of The Man with the Twisted Lip, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, and The Red Room The Victorian era was a time of great change; industrialisation, imperialism, scientific discovery. These changes reflect in the new topics of contemporary literature. In this essay I am going to look at the effect created by Arthur Conan Doyle and H G Wells in three short stories, analysing how this effect has added to the plot, setting and atmosphere. In order to fully understand the ideas behind these short stories it is detrimental to overcome our ignorance of past culture. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was surrounded by a London of crime. If you didn t have enough questions unanswered with the title, you mind goes into overdrive to attempt to place the opening event with the rest of the story. In The Adventures of the Speckled Band it doesn t offer this immediate junction, he introduces the story as we are used to with the literature of Conan Doyle, a recount by Dr. Watson. The placing of a red herring at the opening of the twisted lip I think was an experiment by Conan Doyle, I might go so far as to say he was making a point. It was around this time that Conan Doyle had attempted to write Sherlock Holmes out of his series, thus ending his illustrious career. However his popularity was such that by Royal Decree of Her Majesty Queen VictoriaSherlock Holmes was set to return. This Red Herring could be a testimony to telling the reader just who was in charge of Sherlock Holmes, coincidence perhaps but maybe a reason for Conan Doyle s straying from the norm. The creation of this red herring is not something a find adds to the book, I feel its just a page of dull waffle, it does nothing to interest me the reader, for if it weren t for Conan Doyle s acclaim and previous works, I am sure I would have not continued to read the book. The entrance to the Red Room is quite abrupt, using prose as the opening sentence; I can assure you that it will

Its scientific name, Leipoa ocellata, which belongs to the Megapode family. The Malleefowl is a heavy bodied, ground feeding, egg incubating vertebrae. The two certain characteristics that make the Malleefowl different from most birds is that they construct large nesting mounds and that the parents do not care for their chicks after they are born. Being the only living speciesof the genus Leipoa, it is a birdof unique qualities, although the Giant Malleefowl (which is now extinct) was a close relative. This is due to the loss of habitat and the foxes hunting the Malleefowl for food. There is no information on disease in wild Malleefowl populations although it is prone to many common diseases in captive situations. Likewise, there is no evidence that chemicals used in agriculture are a threat, although the increased exposure may cause certain diseases. The Malleefowl habitat is being severely threatened. This book is an entertaining story that will bring anyone back to their childhood imagination. It is one of the country s most widely acclaimed Christmas books. The author used a delightful twist on A Visit from St. Nicholas but with a Cajun(French Canadian descendants in the bayou areas of southern Louisiana) patois. This parody was published over fourty five years ago by Pelican publishing, which in turn has also published many other reinterpretations from many different states. When Milburn Calhoun heard a reading of this story, He enlisted Rice to provide the colorful illustrations, including the sight of St. Nick on a skiff drawn by eight magic alligators, (The Cajun Night Before Christmas) and the story was born. The author s purpose was to transform the book A Visit from St. Nicholas into a relatable read for children of a Cajun descent. Having no experience with the Cajun language, may give someone trouble understanding what the words mean or even how to pronounce them. This is the only downfall of this book. A true Cajun would understand, Den out on de by you dey got such a clatter (7). The interpretation would read, then out on the bayou they got such a clatter. The author fills in each line with many Cajun words, such as: gumbo, Boudreau, alligator, skiff, and musk rat; however, the real Cajun influence of this story is how it is read. He also engages his readers by not only the Cajun accent, but also with the use of figurative language and

Abstract Upon analyzing 9/11 it was clear to focus on the limitations that the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Central Intelligence Agency had faced. Security breaches and poor intelligence sharing were just some of the critical failures that were encountered. Moreover, the main focus is pointed towards the miscommunication between these two agencies. Evidently, the execution and tactical strategies went unnoticed despite the apparent red flags that presented themselves, in addition to the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Central Intelligence Agency failure to pursue threats and establish a baseline of security resulted in the disaster of 9/11. By disregarding cues of possible terrorist attacks and constant mistakes within the American Intelligence for not planning ahead, the United States failed to achieve its number one goal as a governing body: not keeping its citizens safe. It is important to dig into the issue of the disaster of 9/11 and completely understand the reason for failed prevention efforts. Moreover adding to these issues was the lack of communication and information shared between the two agencies, the Federal Bureau of Investigations and Central Intelligence Agency. When something tragic, devastating even happens, you remember exactly where you were, who you were with, what you were doing, and how old you were when it happened. Whether you want to remember it or not is out of your control. It is tattooed in your brain for good. The moment everyone in America shares in common is September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Centers were attacked by 19 al Qaeda terrorists. The entire nation went into an immediate state of mourning and panic as they were discovering the victims of the attacks. Many often asked if there was something that could have been done to maybe have prevented this from happening. Was there something on the federal side that could have been done? It s like if you woke up one morning and lost 40 percent of the equity in your house, Dan Macon, a Northern California sheep rancher, says. California has been in a severe drought for three years. Macon and other farmers in the state are being forced to sell their stock and find alternative work to pay the bills on top of taking care of their once prosperous farms. Not only is the drought affecting the way these farmers and their families live, but it ll eventually start affecting our food system as long as the conditions persist. It s time for the whole world to start making sacrifices in these hard times or there will be difficult times ahead. Farmers aren t the only ones who should be making the effort to preserve water. Laws should be put in place that control how much of these natural resources people are allowed to use per month or per year. Resources should be conserved so time is bought for scientists to find new solutions to the problem. A 40 percent increase is expected in water demand over the next two decades. Not only that, but clean water isn t available to one out of five people in the world. Also, only 1 percent of water on Earth is available for human consumption. Solutions are evidently needed. Water isn t the only natural resource that isn t looking great. In the last five years the world consumed 27 billion barrels of oil a year, but the oil industry only discovers three billion a year. Only one barrel is being replaced for every 9 barrels used.

  • 21. According To Ward Goodenough s The Interpretation Of Culture One of the most significant and controversial elements found within the study of music is the representation of culture. Although the definition of representation according to Merriam Webster is a person or group that speaks or acts for or in support of another person or group, it is not as easily said than done. The true act of representing another is both incredibly complex and challenging as it contains many subjective variables. History, for example, has demonstrated the complexityof defining what is true representation through the presence of leaders and authoritative figures who have failed to truthfully represent the common man. As a result, the people who have no outlet for expression are represented unjustly by those who do. Similarly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, culture has become more located in the discussion and ways in which demonstrate such complexity than truly demonstrating the complexities of man. It is presumed that in order for true representation to exist, it must be complex and contain many variables in order to be true. One of the most prominent questions surrounding representation in ethnography is how to convey complexity, especially in a culture that is so vast. But if complexity becomes the root of representation, then representation can very easily become fixated over how to cover all aspects of a culture and to focus more on the scientific analysis and processes of articulating the traditions found within a culture than the actual people found within the culture. Complexity, although still a significant factor in representation, can lead to an deviation away from what the true focus of representation should be: the people. Even though representation does indeed contain many complex factors and unanswered questions, the focus of a study should not centralize solely on how to answer such questions. The complexity of representation should instead be found within the thick descriptions of what can be simply answered: the emotions and beliefs of the people. The only form of complexity found within representation should be found within the thick descriptions of man, By doing so, the complexities of man becomes the focus of what true representations involves instead of the complexity of representation in and of itself. Therefore, representation is and should be a connection to the people: the source of what truly should be represented in the study of any

Moreover, defenses are observed as being both protectors against unconscious feelings and relational and cognitive behaviours that protect the self (Cooper, 1998). Currently there is no consensus as to the number of defenses that exist however, in The Ego and the mechanisms of Defense Ana Freud (1936/1986) discusses ten. However, subsequently there has expansion of recognised defences (Kramer 2013). Although, authors vary on the number of defenses that are present, there is a largely an agreement on the role of defenses. The function of these defense mechanisms is to modify internal psychological conditions such as emotions and thoughts by changing the meaning or implication of perceived threats (Kramer 2013). Defenses are utilised differently in borderline personality and comparable disorders and therefore necessitate accurate identification for therapeutic appropriate intervention (Cooper, 1998). Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a severe and dominant psychiatric condition featuring affective instability, marked impulsivity, and substantial deficits in the ability to work and sustain meaningful relationships (Hadjipavlou and Ogrodniczuk 2010). General Motors, Jpy-Usd Exposure Daniel Pinga AEM 4290 General Motors, JPY USD Exposure Executive Summary General Motors Corporation, the world s largest automaker, has an extensive global outreach, which places the firm in competition with automakers worldwide, and subjects itself to significant exchange rate exposure. In particular, despite most of its revenues and production being derived from North America, depreciating yen rates pose problems for the firm indirectly through economic exposure. While GM possesses passive hedging strategies for balance sheet and income statement exposures, management has not yet quantified or recognized solutions to possible losses from the indirect competitive exposure it now shared with Japanese automakers in the U.S import ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... dollars. Having appreciating USD in their assets column, with depreciating yen in their liabilities column, this has lowered cost structure and expanded profit margins for firms such as Nissan, Honda and Toyota. Now, these automakers are able to pass on their reduced costs to consumers via sticker price reductions between 15 45% of cost savings, or through added incentives. According to Exhibit 6, as of 2000, per vehicle incentives of GM ($1,969) far exceeds those of Toyota and Honda, at $725 and 664, respectively; this competitive advantage GM currently holds, as well as its relative market share in the U.S., are endangered if Japanese firms choose to move their incentive values closer to the industry average. Looking into the competitive threat more closely, the auto industry in the United States is rather sensitive to price, with a price elasticity of 2, or a 5% increase in price contributing to a subsequent 10% fall in demand. Thus, based upon the sticker price decreases potentially implemented by Japanese automakers, Japanese companies combined market share (roughly 4.1m units in 2000) stands to increase substantially, and could eat into General Motors overall market share. To highlight the sensitivity to the USD JPY spot exchange rate, GM s VP of Finance, Eric Feldstein, suggests that just a one yen depreciation increases competitors operating profit by $400m. With $900m in net yen receivables, $500m in outstanding yen denominated bonds, and more

Even before its declaration of independence in 1776, the United Stateswas a dock for those looking for a better life. In the case of immigration policy, in order for these policies to be fruitful, the government must have the help and care of the United States citizens. In this desire for the support and ability to trust in its people, the government also needs the readiness of citizens to aid in the course of noticing unlawful immigrants. However, for one reason or another, the people of the United States often do not live up their tasks as citizens, and just overlook their duty to report illegal immigrants to the government. For example, when a boss hires an illegal immigrant for nothing more than low cost labor, that boss is not obeying to the rules set forth by law. There is a number of other persons who also neglect to report illegal immigrants for numerous reasons, such as those in favor of illegal immigration. Such disregard for the law only weakens the rules set forth by the government and, ultimately, hinders the enforcement of said laws. Here lies the problem with present day immigration, as the government simply does not have the volume to fully tool the current policies and laws that it has set forth. From huge limits to defiant citizens, the United States government is delayed from applying their own policies of immigration. With the failure to apply the law, the United States and its people bear some bad effects as an end of illegal

Basaltic Vs Rhyolitic Essay Explain the differences between Basaltic, Rhyolitic and Andesitic volcanic eruptions with reference to processes, which lead to the eruptions, the type of volcano produced and the reasons for the differences between the material erupted by these volcanoes. Volcanic eruptions are caused by a red hot liquid rock, called magma inside the earth s core. Volcanoes erupt when magma rises to the surface of the earth, which causes bubbles of gas to appear in it. This gas can cause pressure to build up in the mountain, and it eventually explodes. (iii)A single price depicts a team s choice alternative though this does not hold in real circumstance where the pricing varies based on the seat allocation. The author has begun his analysis with a (Inverse) Demand function. What is an Inverse Demand Function? In economics, an inverse demand function , P = fв€’1(Q),is a function that maps the quantity of output demanded to the market price (dependent variable) for that output. Quantity demanded, Q, is a function of price; the inverse demand function treats price as a function of quantity demanded, and is also called the price function. Contrary to what we think, an inverse demand function is NOT the reciprocal of the demand function the word inverse refers to the mathematical concept of an inverse function. In mathematical terms, if the demand function is f(P),in which P is price, so the value of the function is the quantity demanded (Q), then the inverse demand function is f 1(Q), whose value is the highest price that could be charged and still generate the quantity demanded Q. This is to say that the inverse demand function is the demand function with the axes switched. This is useful because economists typically place price (P) on the vertical axis and quantity (Q) on the horizontal axis. The inverse demand function is the same as the average revenue function, since

It is known for its speed and takes the shape of a torpedo. In its environment, the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna acts as one of the top predators. It preys on smaller fish, such as herring, mackerel and eels. The Atlantic Bluefin Tunais separated into two main populations, Eastern and Western. Although located in different geographical areas they are not isolated and individuals migrate between the two populations allowing gene flow. The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna s population ranges all through the pelagic zone of the Atlantic. The Western Atlantic population spawns in the Gulf of Mexico, and the Eastern Atlantic population spawns in the Mediterranean Sea. In the fishing industry it is highly coveted for sports fishing, especially in the United States and Canada, and in the sashimi market for high end sushi. As a result of the high demands for the Tuna it is being heavily overfished causing the population to decline dramatically. • 45. The Themes Of Popular Culture Why Themes in Popular Culture are Important to Study The study of popular culture is useful in many ways. To be more specific, this course has reached its three intended main ideas: what it means to be American, how to be more consumption conscious, and how to apply these studies in our own lives. Jim Cullen puts this in a less specific sense, arguing that the study of popular culture can afford valuable clues about collective fears, hopes, and debates (Cullen, The Art of Democracy, 2). We use these clues to understand the world around us, as well as why we do what we do as Americans and as humans. I will be touching on themes that relate to this quotation by Cullen, escapism, exploitation, and globalization, as well as how these themes relate to the course goals. For most of the twentieth century, [popular culture] has been denigrated by intellectuals of all ideological stripes as either meaningless escapism or a dangerous narcotic (Cullen 2). Popular culture is a form of escapism; however, I would argue against those intellectuals calling it meaningless, because, as we have also learned from Cullen, the elites will reject new forms of popular culture. Returning to escapism, an example we have seen is in comic books. Adolescent boys would turn to comics as a source of escapism. For example, lower class second generation Jewish immigrants, searching for their place to fit in society, created Superman. Their comics appealed to young boys, in a post Depression era, with

This paper discusses the basic purpose and nature of design in the context of judging the aptness of a dialogue among the stakeholders including product in itself. It also discusses the kind of outcome based on designers stand in the design process which makes the conversation dialogical or arguing in nature. The paper proposes Design Tree as a structure, for creating distinct platforms for dialogue to happen at all stages of design evolution for design dialogue to be comprehensible. Introduction Louis I Kahn in his lecture was explaining the importance of honoring building material. The designer is at a junction and he has to choose a path. He has to decide between economy and honor of material. The decision, that designer takes, is case specific and depends on various other factors as the case might be. The decision of whether to go logical or intuitive is discussed by many authors and designers in many ways, some supporting logical or rational views and others intuitive or art based. Kahn s quote mentioned above emphasizes on intuitive decision (as an honor towards the material) over logical way (which is the economy). Christopher Alexander in his book Notes on the Synthesis of Form discusses whether design is

When complete reconstruction is possible though the glass can be identified as coming from a single source item. When all the glass fragments from a scene can be pieced together the glass can be identified as coming from a single source item. Glass can be identified as belonging to a specific item, such as a headlight, but identification of the make and model of vehicle is nearly impossible. Glass fragments can be identified as originating from a single item or multiple items. The distinction is characterized as class

Coming from the Portuguese term barroco, or oddly shaped pearl , the Baroque Era was heavily influenced with the Catholic Church from the early 1600s to the 1700s. The Renaissance Era focuses on the exploration, discovery and rebirth; on the contrary, the Baroque Era focuses on the Catholic Church and its exaggerated expressions.
