Betrayal In Poetry Essay
Carol Ann Duffy and William Blake both explore aspects of betrayal, but from different
perspectives. While Duffy explores the betrayal of a single person, Blake explores the type of
betrayal that corrupts and oppresses a society as a whole from the point of view of an outsider.
Carol Ann Duffy presents the sense of betrayal in her poem Havisham in many ways. She
successfully presents this theme in the first line of stanza one:
Beloved sweetheart bastard. Not a day since then
I haven t wished him dead.
The oxymoronic juxtaposition of sweetheart and bastard in the first line presents a vivid picture of
personal betrayal, as the sarcastic tone is suggested in the positive sweetheart , which immediately
turns into anger as the speaker calls the man a bastard. This is ... Show more content on

Spinster. I stink and remember.
By stabbing the cake, it symbolises the death of her marriage, through the betrayal of her partner,
by being left at the altar. Duffy s theme of betrayal is represented throughout the poem by the
symbolism of death and hatred for the man that left her.
Lastly, Duffy presents the theme of betrayal by the use of enjambment at the end of the poem.
Love s
Hate behind a white vail,
Love s hate stands out the most to the audience because of the contrast between the two words, of
being positive and negative at the same time. Thus causing the audience to feel confused with the
speaker at the events that are unfolding within the poem. The enjambment within the line suggests
how separate the two emotions are for the speaker as she battles with the contrast of emotions
inside of her. Linking to the oxymoron of Love s hate , this conveys the sense of confusion in her
thought waves as she battles between love and hate after her ex fiancГ© betrayed her by leaving
her on her wedding

The Library of Congress
b HISTORY /b br The Library of congress was established by an act of congress on April 24,
1800. It was originally housed in the United States capitol. The collection, which stared out
small at 740 volumes, slowly increased to over 3,000 volumes by 1814. That year, though, the
British along with the capitol burned those books during the assault on Washington. br br To
rapidly replace the collection, Thomas Jefferson offered his personal library to congress at no
cost, describing the nature of his books like so: I do not know that it contains any branch of
science which Congress would wish to exclude from the collections; there is, in fact, no subject to
which a Member of Congress may not have occasion to refer. This changed the... Show more

He recommended an individual structure and, in 1872 proposed a scheme to Congress for such
a building. In 1875, he told the Congress that the Library had worn out all shelf space and that
books are now, from sheer force of necessity, being piled on the floor in all directions. Unless
Congress obtained rapid action on the question of a separate structure its Librarian would soon
be placed in the unhappy predicament of presiding over the greatest chaos in America. br br The
first separate Library of Congress Building, the Jefferson Building, was suggested by Librarian of
Congress Ainsworth Rand Spofford in 1871, authorized in 1886, and completed in 1897. When its
doors were opened to the public on November 1, 1897, it represented a supreme nationwide
accomplishment: its 23 carat gold plated dome capped the largest, costliest, and safest library
structure in the world. It s highly decked out front wall and center, for which more than forty
American artists and sculptors could outshine European libraries in magnificence and loyalty to
classical civilization. A modern guidebook bragged: America is justly proud of this gorgeous and
palatial monument to its National sympathy and appreciation of Literature, Science, and Art. It has
been designed and executed entirely by American art and American labor (and is) a fitting tribute
for the great thoughts of generations past, present, and to be. This new national Temple

Clara Machumann Piano Symphony
Robert Schumann (1810 1856) was a Romantic Era composer who composed the Piano Quintet,
Op.44 in 1842. Clara Schumann is said to be the inspiration behind this piece. The Piano Quintet is
seen as not only Robert Schumann s best compositions but is also the best in Western music and
chamber music created during the romantic era. The Piano Quintet is a piece dedicated and inspired
by Clara Schumann, one of the leading pianists of the Romantic Era and Robert Schumanns wife.
This piece incorporates musical signatures with deep significance for the Schumanns (Potter,
Naxos.com). Throughout the piece aspects of Clara are heard that represent both her talent as a
piano player and of her private self that only Robert knew. According to Hans Kohlhase, the quintet
commemorates the painful four and a half years during which Robert and Clara were forbidden by
her father to marry (qtd. in Potter). Robert Schumann was able to capture all of... Show more

As a result of the Piano Quintet being composed for both a piano quintet and string quartet, a
listener of the piece would be able to feel the emotion that Schumann put into this piece. The
contrast of the piano against the violins really allows the listener to take in the music. The first
movement literally translates to a fast tempo, between allegretto and vivace, and bright/sparkling
/brilliant; given this name the first movement did not disappoint with its lively theme with
beautifully placed dynamics. The second movement is the slower funeral march with a lyrical main
theme played by the violin and cello, and a second theme played by the piano with string
accompaniment. The Scherzo utilizes the chromatic scale to re engage listeners after the slower
second movement. The finale movement magnificently makes a call back to the theme of the first
movement, thus bring the whole piece

The Imf And The Crisis
The IMF and the Crisis in Greece
The IMF is one of a number of international organizations whose work is aimed at preventing
economic crisis and rebuilding economies. According to the Levin Institute, both the IMF and the
World Bank were started after WW2 in response to concerns about the stability of economic
markets around the world. While the World Bank now has a focus projects and sustainable
development, the IMF is primarily focused on fiscal policy with lending practices that are focused
on crisis management. Loans that come with significant conditions attached, including significant
changes to fiscal and monetary policy in the borrowing nation (Levin, n.d).
There are many examples of IMF projects that garnered heavy criticism in recent years. Brazil,
Argentina, Turkey, Korea, and Indonesia are a few examples, and now we can add Greece to the
list. The IMF invested in Greece in 2010 and in 2013, and have openly recognized that they
misjudged the effect austerity would have on the Greek economy (Elliot, L., Inman, P., Smith, H.,
2013). They issued a report that identified Notable failures , including failure in restoring market
confidence, the banks 30 percent loss in deposits, high unemployment, waiting too long to
restructure the nation s debt, and a deepening of the recession (IMF recognizes notable failures in
Greek bailout, 2013).

Frost Vs Williams
Nature, there is just something about it that intrigues all of us. Whether it be the changing of the
leaves during fall, the first snowy morning during winter or the birth of new life during the spring.
We all have our different ways of connecting to nature and expressing those connections. In the
poem Spring and All by William Carlos Williams he is expressing his thoughts and emotions about
spring. While in the poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frosthe expresses the
connections one can make with a snowy winter night. During this essay comparisons and contrasts
will be made between these two poems and how they express their connections with nature.

Robert began writing poetry during his high school years and attend Dartmouth College in 1892
(poets.org) He then later transferred to Harvard University, but never actually received a college
degree. On November 8, 1894, Roberts s first poem, My Butterfly, was published in a New York
newspaper (poets.org). In 1895, Robert married Elinor Miriam White, she was a major
inspiration for Roberts poetry until she passed away in 1938 (poets.org). By 1915 Robert had
published A Boy s Will (1913) and North of Boston (1914) and his carrier began to take off

his popularity only increased with each new book, including New Hampshire (1923), A Further
Range (1936), Steeple Bush (1947), and In the Clearing (1962) (poets.org). Much of Frost s work
consisted of the life and landscape of New England and was usually had traditional verse forms and
metrics, unlike many other American poets at the time. Robert Frost passed away January 29, 1963
in Boston, Massachusetts.
The exact same poem can have very different meanings to many different people. It just depends
on how one interprets the poem, and how they interpret it can depend on age, race, gender and
many other factors. The overall meaning of the poem Spring and All is
Someone has stopped by the side of a road that leads to a hospital, and he or she is looking at the
landscape. This person (the speaker of the poem) begins by describing the scene: the dead plants
that cover everything at the end of winter. Then, the poem shifts, and the speaker describes the
coming of spring, imagining how new life will emerge from this landscape as it begins to wake

Moser March 30, 2015 Karen C. Lewis Abstract Imagine your worst nightmare. Now imagine

intruding thoughts about it or flashbacks from it. For someone with Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder, this is the everyday hell that they encounter. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD,

doctors began to discover that it was not just limited to soldiers. In fact, PTSD affects people from

Of these trauma survivors up to 20% develop PTSD. Put another way, approximately 13 million
Americans 5% of the population suffers from PTSD at any given time.(Goulston, 2008 ) Post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder acquired when a person becomes a
victim of some form of trauma. Trauma can come in the form of experiencing natural disasters
such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, or floods. Personal traumas such as being robbed,
assaulted, raped, physically or sexually abused, or tortured can cause PTSD. Those who have
suffered extreme illness such as Cancer and AIDS may experience it. And even those who have
watched their loved ones suffer through extreme illnesses can succumb to the disorder. They
suffer what is called a secondary trauma. It has even been recently discovered that someone
viewing media coverage of a traumatic event can even get PTSD. There were people viewing
the live coverage of the 9/11 attacks in 2001, that triggered the same types of emotional and
physical responses as if they were physically at Ground Zero! Naturally, those who have served in
the military especially those who have survived wars and gone to combat, are highly at risk for
PTSD. So what exactly is a trauma? When we think of the word trauma we often think of something
horrendous, something horrible or really, really bad. But what actually constitutes something as a
trauma and not just a normal everyday

The American Crisis By Thomas Paine
The American Crisis is a pamphlet series by 18th century Enlightenment philosopher and author
Thomas Paine, originally published from 1776 to 1783 during the American Revolution. Often
known as The American Crisis or simply The Crisis, there are 16 pamphlets in total. Thirteen
numbered pamphlets were published between 1776 and 1777, with three additional pamphlets
released between 1777 and 1783. The first of the pamphlets were published in Pennsylvania Journal.
Paine signed the pamphlets with the pseudonym, Common Sense. The pamphlets were
contemporaneous with early parts of the American Revolution, during a time when colonists needed
inspiring works. Paine, like many other politicians and scholars, knew that the Colonists weren t

Paine sees the British political and military maneuvers in America as impious; for so unlimited a
power can belong only to God. Paine states that he believes God supports the American cause,
that God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction, or leave them unsupportedly
to perish, who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war, by
every decent method which wisdom could invent .Paine takes great lengths to state that
Americans do not lack force, but a proper application of that force implying throughout that an
extended war can lead only to defeat unless a stable army was composed not of militia but of
trained professionals. But Paine maintains a positive view overall, hoping that this American
crisis can be quickly resolved, for though the flame of liberty may sometimes cease to shine, the
coal can never expire. The Crisis No. 1 starts out with the famous line These are the times that try
men s souls, and goes on to talk about how Britain has no right to invade America, saying that it is
a power belonging only to God. He also says that if being bound in that manner is not slavery, then
there is not such a thing

Essay on The Science of Rocks
1.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), there are two types of igneous rocks extrusive and
intrusive and the primary difference between the two types of igneous rocks is that the rocks are
formed in two separate locations: within the Earth s crust and on the Earth s surface (35).
Extrusive igneous rocks form when magma rises all the way through the crust to erupt onto Earth
s surface (35). Since the crystals do not have much time to grow, extrusive sedimentary rocks,
also commonly known as volcanic rocks, have fine grained textures, with crystals too small to be
seen with the naked eye (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). For example, basalt is a common very fine
grained volcanic rock. On the other hand, intrusive igneous rocks form when... Show more content

The difference in the mineral composition is apparent in the rocks color and grain texture. Since
basalt is a mafic rock, it tends to have a dark green to black, dark color, while granite tends to
have a clear, white, and pink light color (Thompson Turk, 2011, 37). Additionally, because basalt is
an extrusive igneous rock, it has a very fine grained texture, meaning that the crystals are nearly
impossible to see (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). On the other hand, granite is an intrusive igneous
rock, meaning that it has a medium or coarse grained texture, where the mineral grains and crystals
are easily visible (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36).
3.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), sedimentary rocks are broadly divided into four
categories: clastic, organic, chemical, and bioclastic rocks. Clastic sedimentary rock is composed of
particles of weathered rocks, such as sand grains and pebbles (also known as clasts), which have
been transported, deposited, and lithified (38). Clastic rocks, such as shale, siltstone, and
sandstone, are composed of fragments of older rocks: clay, silt, and sand (38). Moreover, organic
sedimentary rocks consist of lithified remains of plants or animals, and the most common examples
are coal, which is made up of decomposed and compacted plant remains and

A Research Study On The Snowshoe Hare
The snowshoe hare is an animal that seems to have a high predation rate and has struggled at
times to avoid predators and different types of climate. According to Dashiell Feierabend, Knut
Kielland, (2015) the survival and predation of these snowshoe hares was researched for quite some
time, yet no true leads have been discovered such as hares vulnerability, which leaves the question
of what predators and climates can influence their vegetation and coverage. (Feierabend Kielland,
2015). These beautiful creatures are preyed on by a multitude of different animals and also wander
into an array of climates. Sunny, hot, snowy, cold, windy, chances are a snowshoe hare

(Feierabend Kielland, 2015). In this case, predation was the cause of death by 86%. Feierabend
and Kielland state that hares were frequently killed by goshawks within the successional forest,
lynx in the black spruce forest, and other predators. These are just some of the problems that the
hares face day to day. Hares change color depending on their climate, as well. For example, Sarah
Zielinski stated that since most animals who change color do not have control over that, they
may be ill dressed and underdressed for certain weather conditions. (Zielinksi, 2016). Zielinski
stated that there was not much evidence to back up a claim scientist made that a species could
possibly be wiped out due to weather changes and coat changes for the hares. (Zielinski, 2016).
Marketa Zimova of NCSU located in Raleigh and some other colleagues tracked around 186
snowshoe hares over the span of three years, in two locations in Montana. The data found the
result of coat color and landscape color which is significant in both cases. The transition can take
some time, and this could be deadly for the snowshoe hare. Zielinski noted that in a study, a
snowshoe hare who matched their background had a survival rate of about 96% from week to
week. Then, down to 89% when both were completely mix matched. While that did not cause issues
then, it could in the near future. (Zielinski, 2016).

Criminal Activities On The Dark Web Essay
A severe dilemma associated with the increasing availability of the World Wide Web is the use
of the Dark Web as a means for criminal activities throughout the world. The Web consists of the
Surface Web which allows access to popular sites like YouTube and Facebook, the Deep Web,
which consist of private databases and libraries filtered out by common search engines like
Google, and the Dark Web which is intentionally hidden for reasons of anonymity; whether for
good or bad reasons. There are three main solutions that help fray criminal activities on the Dark
Web: the use of specialized government agencies to regulate and policethe Dark Web, the fixation
of resources to combat more serious criminal activities: and conducting more research of the
content and workings of the Dark Web. Further examining the need for more research of the Dark
Web will help elaborate why the use of specialized government agencies and the fixation of
resources on more serious crimes should not be accepted has valid solutions. With the advancement
of online anonymity tools, people world wide can now use the Web to communicate and interact
without leaving a trace of their activities or intentions. The ability to have full anonymity while
using the Web has created what is call the Dark Web. The Dark Web was started originally with
good intentions. For example, in the introduction section of the article The Dark Web, Marcia

can be a more economic way to move electricity over longer distances; a HVDC system can carry

Mixing Energy Drinks
People are innately curious beings and experimentation plays a huge part in that curiosity. With that
experimenting comes new and sometimes dangerous trends which seem to take over society and
become a part of the norm. These trends can include everything from the clothes you wear to the
activities you do. One trend that has been particularly troubling has been mixing energy drinks with
alcohol. I remember when energy drinks became popular. You saw your peers drinking them and
even celebrities were photographed drinking them. They became the cool thing to drinkand before
you knew it bartenders were serving these drinks at bars and restaurants. The combination of those
two types of drinks which cause opposing effects on the body with one being an upper and the
other a downer (look up) can have dire consequences on your body.... Show more content on

According to the Time article (2015) people who consume alcohol mixed with an energy drink
will have more alcoholic beverages than they normally would have had they just drank alcohol
alone. Another issue is that this mixed drink can alter a person s decision making while under
the influence. The Time article states (2015) that the mixed drink makes the person feel as
though they aren t as drunk as they actually are and as a result they are more likely to engage in
dangerous activities such as getting behind the wheel of a car or participate in risky sexual
behavior. The CDC (20105) reports that drinkers who mix the two are twice as likely to report
being taken advantage of sexually or to report taking advantage of someone sexually. A third issue
it the possible association between mixing alcohol with an energy drink and brain damage. Lastly,
according to the CDC (2015) people who consume alcohol mixed with energy drinks are 3 times
more likely to engage in binge

Strategic Planning And The Annual Budgeting Cycle
Strategic planning is done with the 3 to 5 year roadmap, identifying the opportunities to improve
the top line (business /premium growth) or bottom line (expense savings) Operational efficiency.
The projects are identified through Strategic Planning and are then funded through the annual
budgeting cycle. These annual budgets are based on the business performance for the prior years.
Large strategic projects, also known as Level 1 initiatives, which span multiple years, are funded
separately through a Corporate Budget.
Once the budget for the year is decided, The Hartford also have a Steering committee (For large
initiatives) and a Maintenance council (for medium sized enhancements) that takes the further
function of prioritization of different initiatives and keeping track of the budget.
IT Governance
IT Infrastructure updates warranted by the implementation of large key initiatives are funded and
governed as part of the overall IT Project governance. Infrastructure upgrades are treated as Reverse
Demand and implemented as part of the technical upgrade. These projects are funded through the
IT architecture budget.
The business projects e.g. product development, pricing initiatives, profitability modeling etc. are
initiated by the business leads. The business leads prepare a business case detailing the project
including the business benefits. These projects are then presented to the Portfolio Council, which
approves or denies the initial request. Once approved, if there is

The Success Of United Cereal
United Cereal began its European expansion in 1952 by the acquiring a baked goods company in
England. It then directly invested in other established companies in order to save costs by utilising
their well established distribution lines and branding products using well known subsidiaries. This
expansion aimed to achieve leverage by economies of scale and further increase revenues. The
company s strong shared values, The UC way , effected their strategies by ensuring the company
carried out extensive market research before launching their new products to maximise customer
value and innovate to prevent stagnation. Additionally, innovation was greatly encouraged in the
organisation.
UC got known in the industry for using the brand management matrix structure, which allowed it
to succeed in the European market, only second to Kellogg s. Using this system, brand managers
operated under subsidiaries and country managers. As brands were treated as profit centres, it
gave rise to internal competition, promoted efficiency and cut costs. As a result, the R D achieved
supremacy, allowing UC to own the highest product and process patents in the market. Using a
multi domestic strategy, UC also established national subsidiaries in individual countries which
acted as Mini UC s which worked on the same values and structure of its parent American
company. However, the CM s were allowed to customise and tailor products and processes to local
needs to obtain maximum profit. As an aftermath

Memorie Episodic Memory Paper
Have you ever wondered how you can remember things so easily sometimes without hesitation?
Your brain is made up of millions of different chemicals and processes to create these memories.
Psychologist Margaret W. Matlin describes memory as the process of retaining information over
time (Zimmermann). This process includes encoding, storing, retaining and then recalling thoughts.
Without our memorywe would be lost not knowing where you are in time, endlessly moving
forward. Memory is essential for almost everything you do day by day, consider for a moment
how much you rely on your memory to help you function just in one day such as using your phone,
test answers or as simple as eating (Cherry). Encoding is the crucial first step to creating a new
memory (Mastin). This is meant to cement the memory in your head using various parts of the
brain. There are three types of encoding such as Acoustic, Visual and Semantic (Mastin). Encoding

Episodic memory critically depends on the medial temporal lobe and several neocortical regions
during memory encoding (Papassotiropoulos). Memory strategies to help with long term memory
has not been shown to affect memory rehabilitation (Ylvisaker). One reason is people with common
forgetfulness often do not use the strategies that have been taught to help with memorization. Also
most have limited space in their working memory, therefore it is hard to remember these strategies.
Most of the studies have been conducted with adults who rarely have to learn or memorize large
amounts of new information. However, in an academic atmosphere, it is worth encouraging
students to do at least some of the following at the time of encoding to enhance their memory
(Hibbard). These being summarizing, taking notes, speaking information aloud and taking in
reasonably small amounts of information in short amounts of

Sponge Research Paper
Sponges are creatures that many people do really take about, but the truth is that they are
fascinating. They are simple compared to many creatures on this planet, but such a simple
creature can have intriguing ways to function in life. They have so many different structures that
help collect food and allow water flow. Also, there are a few different morphologies that they
can take advantage of to survive. One of the most important factor to a sponge s survival is the
water flow velocity to area ratio. For a sponge to survive there are a few structures that water must
go through. To get inside the sponge, the water must travel through tiny holes called ostia. The
water then flows into an opening called the spongocoel, and finally out of the sponge through the
osculum. Inside the spongocoel are tiny flagella which capture the food particles necessary for the
sponge s survival. If the sponge is more complex than the pathway to the spongocoel is more
complex. This results in more flagella which will result in more food for the sponge.... Show more

If the spongocoel of the sponge is too large, there will be areas in the sponge where the water is
not circulating. If that happens, the amount of water flow and the feeding efficiency is lowered. If
the spongocoel is too small, there will not be that much water flow; therefore, the feeding
efficiency will still be low. To maximizing the amount of water flow and the feeding efficiency,
sponges have adapted their morphology. The three different types of morphology are asconoid,
syconoid, and leuconoid. The asconoid is the simplest structure while the leuconoid is the most
complex structure. The leuconoid is the most complex because it has more pathways to the
spongocoel which allows a higher feeding

and I wish I could do it more often. I ve never been a good sleeper. My parents think it s because

Using the ethanol as the solvent produces a more environmentally favorable conditions, and the
bleach combined with sodium iodide produces an efficient and selective (mono ) product. Once the
final product had been recrystallized with isopropanol, the crystal were collected via vacuum

Ronald Legacy Of Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan is known for many things; however, he is most often recognized for his
presidency. Not only was he a president, he was also a former athlete, Hollywood actor, and
devoted husband and father. Ronald Reagan was one of the most influential and respected men of
his time, known for his traditional morals, values, and beliefs that make him one of the best
presidents that America has ever seen.
Although Ronald Reagan eventually came to lead a glamorous lifestyle, his beginnings were
much more humble. Reagan s life as a child was difficult; his family was struggling in the
Depression, and they had to move many times in order to keep up his father s business. Ronald

Warning Signs Of A Volcanic Eruption
Warning signs of a volcanic eruption can occur up to a month before the eruption itself occurs.
These may include earthquakes, cracks in the earth around the base of the mountain, and even the
depletion of water in springs and streams. All of these signs, and more, were present up to two
weeks before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which began on August 24, AD 79, and covered an
estimated 16,000 citizens of Pompeiiin more than 25 meters of volcanic ash. The result of this event
seemingly could have been avoided, yet this is still considered to be one of the most catastrophic
and infamous eruptions in European history (Deen 25).
The city of Pompeii was thought to be established in the seventh or sixth century BC, by the
Oscans, a group of people from central Italy. The root of the word Pompeii is the Oscan word for
the number five, pompe, which suggests that either the community consisted of five hamlets or it
was settled by a family group. Pompeii was captured for the first time by the Greek colonies
between 525 and 474 BC, then again by the Etruscans in 89 BC. Pompeii then came under the
domination of Rome in the fourth century BC, and was then conquered and became a Roman
colony in 80 BC. Pompeii then underwent a process of development within the city. This included
the construction of an amphitheatre, swimming pool and an aqueduct that provided water for more
than twenty five street fountains, at least four public baths, and a large number of private houses and

Abstract
This paper offers exploratory insights into the ways in which environmental factors influence the
internationalisation of a new low technology firm, two topics that are largely understudied in the
field of international entrepreneurship. By analysing data and literature, the influence of market
conditions, industry characteristics and global niche market opportunities are examined, using a ...

Research Question
Although a big part of German exports consist of low technology products, almost all research
about factors influencing internationalisation of new ventures, has been done focusing on
companies that operate in the high technology industry. The environment in which these firms
operate is very different from the environment in which low technology firms operate. High
technology firms face high R D costs, short product life cycles and mostly operate in niche markets
(Knight Cavusgill, 2004). These conditions are very different for low tech firms (Evers, 2010).
Here, R D costs and product life cycles play no significant role. Since studies about new venture
internationalisation are so heavily grounded in the high tech sector, little is known about the factors
that affect the internationalisation of firms in the low tech sector. This raises the possibility that
past findings do not generalize equally well to all economic sectors (Zahra George, 2002).
Furthermore, little research has been done about how environmental factors influence new venture
internationalisation, and more research is necessary to find out how these factors influence early
internationalisation (Fernhaber, 2007). Environmental factors are factors that a firm cannot control,
and that are part of the external environment they operate in (Zou and Stan, 1998). These factors
can have a significant push and pull effect on new ventures to internationalise

Literature Review Of The Banking Industry
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Introduction The banking industry started long time
ago to provide financial services to merchants in Athens, Venice, Genoa, Florence, and other
commercial cities (Conant, 1915). Coins and banknotes were used to facilitate trading and
exchanging goods. As the idea of money movement grew, central banks were developed to act as
a third party center of trust (Rousseau Sylla, 2003). For decades, banks used to work in the same
manner using the same traditional business models as banknotes and paper records. In 1967, the
first ATM machine was introduced (Kumbhar, 2011). The SWIFT foundation was then established
in 1973 to secure money transactions between different banks. Swift messages do not transfer
money; they just send PO (Payment Orders) that must be settled by financial institutions worldwide
(Scott Zachariadis, 2014). Recently, new changes took place in the surrounding environment where
new digital products appeared, regulations were mandated, and customer behavior patterns were
developed (Hirst, 2017). Bitcoin was introduced in 2009, though still not used in traditional banks,
but it has emerged a new era of digitizing money and is considered as internet of money (Ali, et
al., 2014). With these rapid changes, the need for strong credit scoring systems increases. Some
countries have strict scoring systems based on customers historical loans and payments records,
while other countries have less strict systems where people simply get

The New Woman in Fanu s Carmilla, Stoker s Dracula, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The correlation between the vampire, a figure that is usually regarded as the subject of social
ostracism, and the New Woman, the advent of which was feared by the majority of the British
Victorian patriarchy, was a prominent aspect of much mid to late Victorian era literature.
Supplementary evidence to support the compelling Victorian era literary connection between the
vampire and the New Womancan be extrapolated from the unique gender role standards that
defined that socially complex era. As Catherine Siemann suggests in her essay, Darkness Falls on
the Endless Summer: Buffy as Gidget for the Fin de Siecle, the Victorian New Woman s personal...

In order to reinforce as loudly and clearly as possible the patriarchal message that in Victorian
society, New Women were to be regarded as social pariahs, the ultimate destruction of these
literary characters had to be performed in the most savage manner feasible, the brutality of which
is almost beyond belief. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of
the Victorian patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name;
Carmilla is simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization
eliminates Carmilla s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that
awaits all New Women. Carmilla s execution is described as follows:
The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake
driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all
respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck
off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a
pile of wood, and reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that
territory has never since been plagued by the visits of a vampire. (Le Fanu 336)

Physicalist Dualism
The mind is a nonphysical thing and the body is a physical thing. The mind body problem says that
nonphysical things cannot interact casually with physical things, but states that the mind and body
interact casually. There are three theories that have different ways of explaining how the mind and
body do interact casually. Dualismis the theory that the mindand body are sperate things and they
can interact casually. This theory says that nonphysical things can interact with physical things.
Physicalism is the theory that humans can be adequately explained by physical or material
components. This theory says that the mind is a physical thing instead of nonphysical.
Functionalism is the theory that the mind is categorized by patterns of input processing output.
This theory rejects the mind body problem. It says that the mind is like a computer, there is an
input of information or experiences, the information is processed, and then you have an output of a
response. Out of these three theories, Physicalism makes the most sense. Physicalism says that the
mind is a physical thing, therefore it does not matter that nonphysical things cannot interact casually
with physical things. Physicalism is very easy to explain. It does not have to try and explain how a

Love In Anne Bradstreet s Upon The Burning Of Our House
To know that nothing hurts the godly, is a matter of comfort; but to be assured that all things
which fall out shall cooperate for their good, that their crosses shall be turned into blessings, that
showers of affliction water the withering root of their grace and make it flourish more; this may
fill their hearts with joy till they run over. In this quote, Thomas Watson explains to the people that
everything happens for a reason and that a person should be satisfied with that reason. Upon the
Burning of Our House by Anne Bradstreet, expresses a woman s emotional state of mind during the
burning of her house and the fate she has in God. The story Deviland Tom Walker by Washington
Irving, is about an unhappy married man that makes a pact with the devil that he eventually regrets.
In Ben Franklin s autobiography, it states Franklin s list of the thirteen virtues and his weekly plan
he had to accomplish them.
In Anne Bradstreet s poem, Upon the Burning of Our House , it teaches the audience that even
though bad things happen, God will always be there for a person in the long run. Bradstreet was
feeling emotional about her house being up in flames, therefore she prays to God to help her out.
After a couple minutes Bradstreet realizes that it was God s intention to create this fire. She came
to the conclusion that what she had in her possession was not hers to begin with, it was God s.
Moreover, her real home is heaven. Bradstreet titles the poem, Upon the Burning of our

A Comparison Of Hills Like White Elephants And Happy Endings
Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway and Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood share a
gender oriented theme. They both show women struggling to attain equality against their male
partners. This theme is depicted through the use of symbolism, point of view and plot conflict.
Symbolically, Hills like White Elephants represents a choice. It is a life choice that can t be undone
once it is made. This choice is about whether or not Jig, the female character of the story, should
get an abortion. It supports the theme because if Jig chooses to keep the baby she is defying the
wishes of her male partner, who is simply referred to as the man, and taking a stand for women
by doing so. However it is not entirely clear what choice she makes at the end of the story. Her
only words being, I feel fine...There s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine (216). The interpretation
some people take for this is that she decided to keep the baby and chose to defy male domination.
In Happy Endings the main symbols are how the relationships end be it cheating, age, or health
complications. Cheating is symbolic of the relationship being dominated by only one person
involved in it. Age is symbolic of both partners sharing or being equal in the relationship. Lastly
health complications are a way of saying that fate, be it good or bad, can be involved, or that not
everything works out according to plan. These are all related to the idea that by placing a dominant
person in the relationship

A valley is a common landform. They are found all over the earth, along the ocean floor, and even

valleys, and flat floored valleys. A river valley is formed by a river. They are v shaped and have
taller areas of land on either side of the river. A glacial valley is formed by glaciers. They are u

stereotype that is familiar to many people. Stock characters rely heavily on cultural types, manner
of speech, and other characteristics. They are an important component of any play or story
because it provides relationships and interactions that people will recognize immediately. People
can summarize the characters role in the story in a sentence or less and people will know exactly
what you are talking about. They vary from widely known cultural types and mannerisms, and
every culture has its own set of stock characters. An example of a stock characteris a Jewish Mother.
She nags, is overprotective and is a controlling figure.

The audience can be very entertained by The Soldier in Roman comedy because he is not bright
and easily misled by flattery, which makes his character pretty hilarious to watch. He is always
chasing after women, even if they are married, he thinks he is extremely handsome, and believes
that all of the women are in love with him. This character is very amusing to watch because he is
so airheaded that he could never actually be a real and respected soldier in an army.
The Slave in Roman comedy also plays a very large part in the humor aspect of the show. He
may not seem like a stock character in this present style of sitcoms, but back then the slave was a
very popular character. He is very smart, clever, always up to some scheme, and he is always
plotting to be made free. I find this very ironic because the slave should be the character who is
dumb and stupid but instead, he portrays himself as the one with the higher status rather than lower
status because he knows that he is smarter than the soldier and he always succeeds when he tricks
the Soldier into doing

Research Paper On Acne Vulgaris
How common is acne vulgaris, also know as basically acne, in the human population? Simply put,
it is extremely common. It is unlikely an individual goes about life without experiencing or
witnessing acne. Acne is an incessant skin condition that influences several individuals sooner or
later within their life. Particularly it is the event of septic or swollen sebaceous glands in the skin;
specifically, an ailment portrayed by red blemishes on the face, predominant essentially among
young individuals (Galderma, 2013). It causes spots to create on the skin, for the most part on the
face, back and mid section. The side effects of skin inflammationcan be gentle, moderate or serious.

Acne vulgaris, ordinarily alluded to as pimples, is created by obstructed pores as a consequence of
sebum development and microorganisms like bacteria. It is important that individuals be informed
about acne vulgaris because the skin condition can result in scarring and spread of infection and
the first step to avoiding these things is awareness of the skin condition itself. Despite the
regularity, several individuals don t understand the basic principles of how acne vulgaris is formed
and false guidance leads to an increase of severity for the skin condition. Overall, advisement of the
skin condition can result in the diminishment of the countless struggles and obstacles individuals
face when battling against acne

The Life Of Computer Technology
Cameron, a computer tech, works for a small computer repair/building shop. Working day and
night to save enough money to go to college. Every day, someone would come in with a broken
hard drive, or someone with the intent to upgrade their hardware. Laptops are a common
machine always needing something to be replaced. On the weekends, Cameron would get with
his friends and play the game Counter Strike: Global Offensive, or CS:GO for short. He was a
fairly high rank, that of Legendary Eagle, or LE. Two Months into the job a famous pro gamer that
goes by the gamertag of Stewie2k, came in looking to upgrade. Stewie had a competition coming

An example of one of the strats they practiced was called the ring of fire, where they would all

map would be Overpass, a map full of tunnels and canals. Overpass is a fan favorite, being a
heavily CT sided map, being that they start on CT side, winning would be easy in the first half.
The third and final map would be Cache, a more open map, but requires a lot of skill. This map
is either super fast paced or super slow. If your team doesn t cooperate, they without a doubt will
lose. As the clock counts down till game start the team gives a last good luck to the rest of the
teammates, Cloud 9 starts on T side, giving a perfect opportunity to test their best strats in the
first half. The clock hits zero and the rush of adrenaline is in the air, the game starts, and
everyone decided on an eco round, to get the most money out of the first round. Generally
whoever wins the first round has the best chance to win, so accuracy was highly important when
the T side has glocks that do 2 tap for headshots, and too many to remember for any other shot. If
the other team doesn t buy armor however, the glock will be a 1 shot headshot, and it ll be a fair

Mental Health Act Analysis
The first piece of legislation which supported individual with mental health was the Mad House
Act (1774). This piece of legislation was ineffective as it resulted in negative outcomes for
individuals with mental and physical disabilities, as they were treated in an undignified way in
cramped and unsubstantial conditions being viewed by the public for a penny. However, the
Lunacy Act (1845 1930) was a more positive outcome, making it a legal requirement for county
owned asylum to be inspected and had to have licenses for best practice and to promote the rights
of the patients within and outside the facility, although, this was not the case in some facilities
where failure and low morale caused negative impacts to the patients treatments (Lester, 2010).
Furthermore, in the 1900 s the Mental Deficiency Health Act came into implementation in (1913
1938) where children and vulnerable adults would have been placed institutional settings, until the
amendment to the Mental Health Act (1959). This act abolished the categories of legal distinction
of mental health and prevented those who did not need to go for example, a mother who is unwed
and had repeated amount of children as they were seen to be defective (Pilgrim, D, 2014). The

Difference Between Daoism And Confucianism
Confucianism and Daoism Confucianism originated from Confucius and The Five Classics. The
Five Classics provided both the ideology and framework that informed government policy. They
includes the descriptions of deities, ghosts, and spirits, and the rites. Similarly, the primary source
of explanations, the Book of Rites, also explains how the rites serve the ultimate goal of
Confucianism, which is the creation of a harmonious society through careful self cultivation not
for the sake of the self, but for the sake of the society . The Classics make it clear that a peaceful
and harmonious society cannot be achieved without harmony in the family. The section on
Principles of Sacrifice in the Records of Rites explains that a ruler must have a wife to assist in
both state and familial duties. Furthermore, the king and queen were together responsible for
making offerings at the ancestral temple representing the imperial family. Interestingly, there is a
balance of yin and yang, which is reinforced by the first two trigrams in the Classic of Changes.

provides examples of the shared cultural beliefs and practices of Confucians and Daoists from the

is capable of influencing lesser persons. In sum, I believe that Confucianism is much more practical
for the average practitioner due to its focus on family. In addition, two key aspects of Confucianism
are the importance of filial piety or devotion and humaneness which is reflected in two
characteristics. These characteristics are loyalty and empathetic understanding or

Indian Water Rights Summary
This journal evaluates the nature of Indian water rights in their reservations. It also evaluates the
use of tribal sovereignty to protect water rights in Indian country. Indian country in the United
States uses their land for many hazardous practices to help their economic output. Their concern is
to maintain a good economic status by using their land that is not regulated by the states. The
Indian reservation was created for the benefit of the Indian tribes, not the U.S. government. Lately,
we have seen a lot of mining, oil gas, and fracking activities in their land.
This journal has an example that put the Fort Belknap Indian reservation to have the rights of the
Milk River to be use for future economical purposes (i.e. agricultural use). In 1888,The United
States Congrees reserved the rights of the Milk River to the Indian reservation. The non Indians that

This diet tries to promote weight loss and healthy living by cutting out the carbohydrates (sugars,
for the most part) from their foods. Unfortunately for Krispy Kreme, their product offering is
mostly doughnuts, all of which are high in carbohydrates, and therefore on the blacklist of many
Americans. In fact, as Americans become smarter about their health and their food choices, we can
expect doughnut sales across America to drop with time.
Loss of the niche aspect of the product
As Krispy Kreme rapidly expands by opening up new stores and franchises, the supply of their
doughnuts has increased dramatically. Krispy Kreme s doughnuts used to be in very high demand,
in our opinion because of the scarcity of the product: knowing that you can t have the product any
time, any where, made it more desirable. Now that Krispy Kreme locations are more accessible, as
well as the doughnuts being sold across grocery and convenience stores nation wide, the product
has become more of a commodity rather than the niche product it once was.
Product mix
Krispy Kreme s product mix constitutes of two things: doughnuts and coffee. This leaves the
company very exposed to changes in market demand that can be caused for example, by new and
existing diets. The competition on the other hand,

Catholic Education Research Paper
I cannot describe what Catholic Education means to me currently without recalling what it once
meant to me. Catholic Education meant different things to me at different stages of my life. From
kindergarten to around grade 5, Catholic Education was just education. I knew public schools
existed. I understood that Catholic schools engaged students in the Catholic faith. Like my peers I
would pray, listen during religionlessons, and sit cross legged on the gymnasium floor, cramped
together with 500 other students. The masses meant nothing to me. (They really just meant
discomfort because my legs would always fall asleep.) I listened to most lessons passively all the
time, and religion lessons were no exception. Prayers were only memorized... Show more content

I came to conclusions about my faith and Catholic Education. Catholic Education still does not
mean much to me. However, it brings together people who (most of the time) come from a
Catholic/Christian backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. For that I appreciate
Catholic Education. What I do not find as nice about Catholic schools is that despite being
centred around religion, people in Catholic schools can be just as mean spirited, rude, and
uncompassionate as people in public schools, if not worse. I am aware that it is unrealistic to
assume that those in Catholic schools are all wonderful people, but I find reality ironic. In my
opinion, Catholic Education is like public education, except Catholic students have school masses
and are obligated to take religion courses. As I introduced previously, being subject to Catholic
Education and those devoutly religious for the better part of 13 years has guided me to my brand
of Catholicism so to speak. Catholic Education has inadvertently, or possibly intentionally, started
me off on my own spiritual path by showing me what I do not like about Catholicism (eg. the
belief that not going to church is bad). Spirituality and personal religious beliefs are lifelong works
in progress, and I suppose that without Catholic Education my progress would have started later in

The Origins of Russia Essay
The Origins of Russia
The country of Russia: enormous, expansive, wide open. The words that describe this Euro
Asian country can be attributed to its origins from its Slavic inhabitants and the takeover by the
Varangians. Kievan Russia, as it was called, started its own civilization in the year 862. The
problem with the origin of the Russian State is that it is exceedingly complex and many theories
are based on circumstantial evidence. A good example of this is the early history of the plains
above the Black Sea. This region compromises the center of the Kievan State, yet much is unknown
about these parts due to the lack of resources. Archaeological finds suggest many ideas, all of which
are unconfirmed. The simplest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Scythians lived peacefully until the third century BCE. During that time, they were overcome
by another nomadic tribe, the Sarmatians. Less than twenty five years after the Sarmatians
conquered the Scythians, the Goths superseded the Sarmatians. The Goths were groups of
uncivilized people who strengthened their kingdoms by keeping them in a state of terror. They
were of Germanic descent, and reached the pinnacle of their strength during the early fourth
century. Following the Goths were the Huns and the Avars. Meanwhile, the Slavs in the fifth
century CE emerged and moved southward to come in contact with the East Roman Empire. The
Slavs were split into three groups, called the Antae, Sclaveni, and the Venedi. Most historical
references do not pay much attention to the Antic tribes, probably because of their disappearance
in the late sixth century. The Sclaveni and Venedi joined and created a unified East Slavic empire.
This Slavic kingdom slowly began to increase during the late 700s. The area that was held by the
Avars in the 790s was demolished through Charlemagne s destruction of their empire. With that, the
Slavic people began to migrate down to what is now Kiev. At Kiev, they encountered additional
tribes such as the Finno Ugrians, Bulgars, and Khazars. The Finno Ugrians could be broken down
into smaller less civilized tribes, though their counterparts, the Bulgars and the Khazars, were much
more refined.

The Modern Prometheus In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The Modern Prometheus, a term coined by Mary Shelly in her novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern
Prometheus. A modern Prometheus is a term used to describe someone who crosses an invisible
boundary and brings something into this world, which might have a very large or a very small
impact, that humanity loses the ability to control. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelly names Victor
Frankenstein as a Modern Prometheus. Like the Prometheus from the myths, he steps over the
boundaries and creates a superhuman homunculus who he cannot control, and who eventually
destroys everything that was important in life for Victor. A modern Prometheus, however, does not
always create something that is harmful, but rather something that can cause harm because it is

Social media had been around for approximately 7 years when Facebook was originally launch
the first site being Six Degrees, which was launched in the spring of 1997 (CBC News Staff).
However, it is not the introduction of the idea of social media that makes Zuckerberg a modern
Prometheus, but rather the extraordinary growth and success of his creation, Facebook, that gives
him this title. Mark Zuckerberg recently said that ...Just wanting to connect people has been a
pretty deep thing for me...it s something that I have cared about since I was a kid... (Zuckerberg,

all children to communicate to resolve their issues rather than fighting over them. Facebook was
designed to help people connect and communicate with each other. However, Zuckerberg himself
said ...you know, Facebook is not a static thing... (Zuckerberg, Highlights from Q A with Mark).

However, when you look deeper into the scenarios the mini story is telling, Lockhart manages to
retell what is going on in the book in a more metaphorical sense. For instance, towards the end of
the novel, once Cadence figured out the truth behind her accident, she tells one last Once Upon
a Time story. This last story talks about three beautiful children with hopes and aspirations and
one witch who was jealous of the children s success and beauty. The witch places a curse on the
three beautiful children so that they will die in a fire at the age of sixteen. The witch found them
again when they were fifteen and disguised herself into a beautiful maiden so she can trick them
into starting the fire. A start a fire the beautiful children did, and the witch watched as all of their
wonderful qualities disappear in smoke (197 198). This last story that Cadence tells illustrates the
guilt Cadence feels about Johnny, Mirren, and Gat s death. Cadence feels as if she was the cause
of it all and took away everything they could have been. In the retelling, nowhere does it directly
state that the story is about Cadence, Johnny, Mirren. And Gat. Through the use of semantics, the

others in his division, have been having major problems shipping orders on time. The company has

the future of the division, he recalls a chance encounter with an old acquaintance, a physicist named

The bottlenecks are the areas (machines) in the plant that are constantly holding back the
production of the finished product. The philosophy behind this will become clear in a moment.
Philosophy of Ongoing Improvement Since the beginning of the industrial revolution
manufacturing organizations have followed the rules that idle time is lost time. That the only way to
make money is to keep everyone and everything operating at 100 percent. When in fact a plant that
runs it s resources at 100 percent all the time is actually a very inefficient plant. Most of the time
the struggle to meet efficiencies is taking the organization further away from it s goal. Excess
production creates excess inventories that in turn ties up money and slows down or impedes cash
flows. The key to balancing production is to search out those places in the plant that slows down all
the processes behind it, essentially a bottleneck. Obviously the bottleneck can t just be removed so
the rest of the process must be governed by the speed at which the bottlenecks can operate.
Release of materials must be staggered so that just as a batch is sent through the bottleneck another
batch is waiting in front of it to be processed. No other non bottleneck area can be allowed to
operate faster than the bottlenecks can handle otherwise the inventories will begin to climb again.

Candide Character Analysis
Discuss the female characters in Candide. Are they victims, or natural survivors? Do they deserve
more pity or more admiration? Take one side only.
In Voltaire s Candide, there is a young fellow that falls in love with a lady. She is kidnapped and
the protagonist, Candide, embarks on a journey to find his love. I believe that he doesn t really love
this young lady, Cunegonde, he is in love with her looks (or is in lust, if you will). We discover
that he really doesn t love her at the end of the novel, but they still marry. The other female
characters have similar backstories and are also seen as a body of desire. The only one that is
not seen this way is an old woman. Regardless of age, all of the women have issues or tragic
lives. I pity these people that have to live in a position that is seen as inferior to the majority of
men. While I pity them, I also see how strong they are, and what they have endured in their lifespan.
A character that is deserving of pity is Cunegonde. Cunegonde came from a line of high ranking
people who are killed later in the novel. She was also kidnapped and raped by Bulgarians. She had
to have sex with two men that were sharing her. When Candide finds her for the first time, the only
thing that he cares about is how beautiful she is. He sees her and immediately believes that he is
in love with her. Later on, in the novel, Candide finds her once again. This time though, she is
old and hasn t aged well. Candide marries her and makes it known to the reader that it wasn t out
of love, it was out of pity. I believe that this character is deserving of more pity, because no one
deserves to go through the things that she has. No one took the time to get to know her. Candide
didn t really care that much about her when he saw that she wasn t beautiful anymore. Pacquette
is a character that deserves pity because her life was great until she started having sex with
Pangloss and gave him syphilis. As a result, she ran out of money and became broke and she had
no other option but to resort to prostitution. On Candide s journey to find Cunegonde he lands in
Venice with martin and recognizes Pacquette and felt pity for her and he gave her a generous
amount of money. Candide gave two thousand

  • 2. Betrayal In Poetry Essay Carol Ann Duffy and William Blake both explore aspects of betrayal, but from different perspectives. While Duffy explores the betrayal of a single person, Blake explores the type of betrayal that corrupts and oppresses a society as a whole from the point of view of an outsider. Carol Ann Duffy presents the sense of betrayal in her poem Havisham in many ways. She successfully presents this theme in the first line of stanza one: Beloved sweetheart bastard. Not a day since then I haven t wished him dead. The oxymoronic juxtaposition of sweetheart and bastard in the first line presents a vivid picture of personal betrayal, as the sarcastic tone is suggested in the positive sweetheart , which immediately turns into anger as the speaker calls the man a bastard. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spinster. I stink and remember. By stabbing the cake, it symbolises the death of her marriage, through the betrayal of her partner, by being left at the altar. Duffy s theme of betrayal is represented throughout the poem by the symbolism of death and hatred for the man that left her. Lastly, Duffy presents the theme of betrayal by the use of enjambment at the end of the poem. Love s Hate behind a white vail, Love s hate stands out the most to the audience because of the contrast between the two words, of being positive and negative at the same time. Thus causing the audience to feel confused with the speaker at the events that are unfolding within the poem. The enjambment within the line suggests how separate the two emotions are for the speaker as she battles with the contrast of emotions inside of her. Linking to the oxymoron of Love s hate , this conveys the sense of confusion in her thought waves as she battles between love and hate after her ex fiancГ© betrayed her by leaving her on her wedding ... • 3. The Library of Congress b HISTORY /b br The Library of congress was established by an act of congress on April 24, 1800. It was originally housed in the United States capitol. The collection, which stared out small at 740 volumes, slowly increased to over 3,000 volumes by 1814. That year, though, the British along with the capitol burned those books during the assault on Washington. br br To rapidly replace the collection, Thomas Jefferson offered his personal library to congress at no cost, describing the nature of his books like so: I do not know that it contains any branch of science which Congress would wish to exclude from the collections; there is, in fact, no subject to which a Member of Congress may not have occasion to refer. This changed the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He recommended an individual structure and, in 1872 proposed a scheme to Congress for such a building. In 1875, he told the Congress that the Library had worn out all shelf space and that books are now, from sheer force of necessity, being piled on the floor in all directions. Unless Congress obtained rapid action on the question of a separate structure its Librarian would soon be placed in the unhappy predicament of presiding over the greatest chaos in America. br br The first separate Library of Congress Building, the Jefferson Building, was suggested by Librarian of Congress Ainsworth Rand Spofford in 1871, authorized in 1886, and completed in 1897. When its doors were opened to the public on November 1, 1897, it represented a supreme nationwide accomplishment: its 23 carat gold plated dome capped the largest, costliest, and safest library structure in the world. It s highly decked out front wall and center, for which more than forty American artists and sculptors could outshine European libraries in magnificence and loyalty to classical civilization. A modern guidebook bragged: America is justly proud of this gorgeous and palatial monument to its National sympathy and appreciation of Literature, Science, and Art. It has been designed and executed entirely by American art and American labor (and is) a fitting tribute for the great thoughts of generations past, present, and to be. This new national Temple ... • 4. Clara Machumann Piano Symphony Robert Schumann (1810 1856) was a Romantic Era composer who composed the Piano Quintet, Op.44 in 1842. Clara Schumann is said to be the inspiration behind this piece. The Piano Quintet is seen as not only Robert Schumann s best compositions but is also the best in Western music and chamber music created during the romantic era. The Piano Quintet is a piece dedicated and inspired by Clara Schumann, one of the leading pianists of the Romantic Era and Robert Schumanns wife. This piece incorporates musical signatures with deep significance for the Schumanns (Potter, Naxos.com). Throughout the piece aspects of Clara are heard that represent both her talent as a piano player and of her private self that only Robert knew. According to Hans Kohlhase, the quintet commemorates the painful four and a half years during which Robert and Clara were forbidden by her father to marry (qtd. in Potter). Robert Schumann was able to capture all of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of the Piano Quintet being composed for both a piano quintet and string quartet, a listener of the piece would be able to feel the emotion that Schumann put into this piece. The contrast of the piano against the violins really allows the listener to take in the music. The first movement literally translates to a fast tempo, between allegretto and vivace, and bright/sparkling /brilliant; given this name the first movement did not disappoint with its lively theme with beautifully placed dynamics. The second movement is the slower funeral march with a lyrical main theme played by the violin and cello, and a second theme played by the piano with string accompaniment. The Scherzo utilizes the chromatic scale to re engage listeners after the slower second movement. The finale movement magnificently makes a call back to the theme of the first movement, thus bring the whole piece ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the Levin Institute, both the IMF and the World Bank were started after WW2 in response to concerns about the stability of economic markets around the world. While the World Bank now has a focus projects and sustainable development, the IMF is primarily focused on fiscal policy with lending practices that are focused on crisis management. Loans that come with significant conditions attached, including significant changes to fiscal and monetary policy in the borrowing nation (Levin, n.d). There are many examples of IMF projects that garnered heavy criticism in recent years. Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, Korea, and Indonesia are a few examples, and now we can add Greece to the list. The IMF invested in Greece in 2010 and in 2013, and have openly recognized that they misjudged the effect austerity would have on the Greek economy (Elliot, L., Inman, P., Smith, H., 2013). They issued a report that identified Notable failures , including failure in restoring market confidence, the banks 30 percent loss in deposits, high unemployment, waiting too long to restructure the nation s debt, and a deepening of the recession (IMF recognizes notable failures in Greek bailout, 2013). Put another way, approximately 13 million Americans 5% of the population suffers from PTSD at any given time.(Goulston, 2008 ) Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder acquired when a person becomes a victim of some form of trauma. Trauma can come in the form of experiencing natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, or floods. Personal traumas such as being robbed, assaulted, raped, physically or sexually abused, or tortured can cause PTSD. Those who have suffered extreme illness such as Cancer and AIDS may experience it. And even those who have watched their loved ones suffer through extreme illnesses can succumb to the disorder. They suffer what is called a secondary trauma. It has even been recently discovered that someone viewing media coverage of a traumatic event can even get PTSD. There were people viewing the live coverage of the 9/11 attacks in 2001, that triggered the same types of emotional and physical responses as if they were physically at Ground Zero! Naturally, those who have served in the military especially those who have survived wars and gone to combat, are highly at risk for PTSD. So what exactly is a trauma? The American Crisis By Thomas Paine The American Crisis is a pamphlet series by 18th century Enlightenment philosopher and author Thomas Paine, originally published from 1776 to 1783 during the American Revolution. Often known as The American Crisis or simply The Crisis, there are 16 pamphlets in total. Thirteen numbered pamphlets were published between 1776 and 1777, with three additional pamphlets released between 1777 and 1783. The first of the pamphlets were published in Pennsylvania Journal. Paine signed the pamphlets with the pseudonym, Common Sense. The pamphlets were contemporaneous with early parts of the American Revolution, during a time when colonists needed inspiring works. Paine sees the British political and military maneuvers in America as impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God. Paine states that he believes God supports the American cause, that God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction, or leave them unsupportedly to perish, who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war, by every decent method which wisdom could invent .Paine takes great lengths to state that Americans do not lack force, but a proper application of that force implying throughout that an extended war can lead only to defeat unless a stable army was composed not of militia but of trained professionals. But Paine maintains a positive view overall, hoping that this American crisis can be quickly resolved, for though the flame of liberty may sometimes cease to shine, the coal can never expire. The Crisis No. 1 starts out with the famous line These are the times that try men s souls, and goes on to talk about how Britain has no right to invade America, saying that it is a power belonging only to God. • 9. Essay on The Science of Rocks 1.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), there are two types of igneous rocks extrusive and intrusive and the primary difference between the two types of igneous rocks is that the rocks are formed in two separate locations: within the Earth s crust and on the Earth s surface (35). Extrusive igneous rocks form when magma rises all the way through the crust to erupt onto Earth s surface (35). Since the crystals do not have much time to grow, extrusive sedimentary rocks, also commonly known as volcanic rocks, have fine grained textures, with crystals too small to be seen with the naked eye (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). For example, basalt is a common very fine grained volcanic rock. On the other hand, intrusive igneous rocks form when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The difference in the mineral composition is apparent in the rocks color and grain texture. Since basalt is a mafic rock, it tends to have a dark green to black, dark color, while granite tends to have a clear, white, and pink light color (Thompson Turk, 2011, 37). Additionally, because basalt is an extrusive igneous rock, it has a very fine grained texture, meaning that the crystals are nearly impossible to see (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). On the other hand, granite is an intrusive igneous rock, meaning that it has a medium or coarse grained texture, where the mineral grains and crystals are easily visible (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). 3.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), sedimentary rocks are broadly divided into four categories: clastic, organic, chemical, and bioclastic rocks. Clastic sedimentary rock is composed of particles of weathered rocks, such as sand grains and pebbles (also known as clasts), which have been transported, deposited, and lithified (38). Clastic rocks, such as shale, siltstone, and sandstone, are composed of fragments of older rocks: clay, silt, and sand (38). Moreover, organic sedimentary rocks consist of lithified remains of plants or animals, and the most common examples are coal, which is made up of decomposed and compacted plant remains and ... These are just some of the problems that the hares face day to day. Hares change color depending on their climate, as well. For example, Sarah Zielinski stated that since most animals who change color do not have control over that, they may be ill dressed and underdressed for certain weather conditions. (Zielinksi, 2016). Zielinski stated that there was not much evidence to back up a claim scientist made that a species could possibly be wiped out due to weather changes and coat changes for the hares. Criminal Activities On The Dark Web Essay A severe dilemma associated with the increasing availability of the World Wide Web is the use of the Dark Web as a means for criminal activities throughout the world. The Web consists of the Surface Web which allows access to popular sites like YouTube and Facebook, the Deep Web, which consist of private databases and libraries filtered out by common search engines like Google, and the Dark Web which is intentionally hidden for reasons of anonymity; whether for good or bad reasons. There are three main solutions that help fray criminal activities on the Dark Web: the use of specialized government agencies to regulate and policethe Dark Web, the fixation of resources to combat more serious criminal activities: and conducting more research of the content and workings of the Dark Web. Further examining the need for more research of the Dark Web will help elaborate why the use of specialized government agencies and the fixation of resources on more serious crimes should not be accepted has valid solutions. With the advancement of online anonymity tools, people world wide can now use the Web to communicate and interact without leaving a trace of their activities or intentions. They are simple compared to many creatures on this planet, but such a simple creature can have intriguing ways to function in life. They have so many different structures that help collect food and allow water flow. Also, there are a few different morphologies that they can take advantage of to survive. One of the most important factor to a sponge s survival is the water flow velocity to area ratio. For a sponge to survive there are a few structures that water must go through. To get inside the sponge, the water must travel through tiny holes called ostia. The water then flows into an opening called the spongocoel, and finally out of the sponge through the osculum. Inside the spongocoel are tiny flagella which capture the food particles necessary for the sponge s survival. If the sponge is more complex than the pathway to the spongocoel is more complex. This results in more flagella which will result in more food for the sponge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To maximizing the amount of water flow and the feeding efficiency, sponges have adapted their morphology. The three different types of morphology are asconoid, syconoid, and leuconoid. All of these signs, and more, were present up to two weeks before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which began on August 24, AD 79, and covered an estimated 16,000 citizens of Pompeiiin more than 25 meters of volcanic ash. The result of this event seemingly could have been avoided, yet this is still considered to be one of the most catastrophic and infamous eruptions in European history (Deen 25). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 518). Research Question Although a big part of German exports consist of low technology products, almost all research about factors influencing internationalisation of new ventures, has been done focusing on companies that operate in the high technology industry. The environment in which these firms operate is very different from the environment in which low technology firms operate. High technology firms face high R D costs, short product life cycles and mostly operate in niche markets (Knight Cavusgill, 2004). These conditions are very different for low tech firms (Evers, 2010). Here, R D costs and product life cycles play no significant role. Since studies about new venture internationalisation are so heavily grounded in the high tech sector, little is known about the factors that affect the internationalisation of firms in the low tech sector. This raises the possibility that past findings do not generalize equally well to all economic sectors (Zahra George, 2002). Furthermore, little research has been done about how environmental factors influence new venture internationalisation, and more research is necessary to find out how these factors influence early internationalisation (Fernhaber, 2007). Environmental factors are factors that a firm cannot control, and that are part of the external environment they operate in (Zou and Stan, 1998). These factors can have a significant push and pull effect on new ventures to internationalise

Literature Review Of The Banking Industry CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Introduction The banking industry started long time ago to provide financial services to merchants in Athens, Venice, Genoa, Florence, and other commercial cities (Conant, 1915). Coins and banknotes were used to facilitate trading and exchanging goods. As the idea of money movement grew, central banks were developed to act as a third party center of trust (Rousseau Sylla, 2003). For decades, banks used to work in the same manner using the same traditional business models as banknotes and paper records. In 1967, the first ATM machine was introduced (Kumbhar, 2011). The SWIFT foundation was then established in 1973 to secure money transactions between different banks. Swift messages do not transfer money; they just send PO (Payment Orders) that must be settled by financial institutions worldwide (Scott Zachariadis, 2014). Recently, new changes took place in the surrounding environment where new digital products appeared, regulations were mandated, and customer behavior patterns were developed (Hirst, 2017). Bitcoin was introduced in 2009, though still not used in traditional banks, but it has emerged a new era of digitizing money and is considered as internet of money (Ali, et al., 2014). In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of the Victorian patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name; Carmilla is simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization eliminates Carmilla s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that awaits all New Women. Carmilla s execution is described as follows: The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a pile of wood, and reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that territory has never since been plagued by the visits of a vampire. The mind body problem says that nonphysical things cannot interact casually with physical things, but states that the mind and body interact casually. There are three theories that have different ways of explaining how the mind and body do interact casually. Dualismis the theory that the mindand body are sperate things and they can interact casually. This theory says that nonphysical things can interact with physical things. Physicalism is the theory that humans can be adequately explained by physical or material components. This theory says that the mind is a physical thing instead of nonphysical. Functionalism is the theory that the mind is categorized by patterns of input processing output. This theory rejects the mind body problem. It says that the mind is like a computer, there is an input of information or experiences, the information is processed, and then you have an output of a response. Out of these three theories, Physicalism makes the most sense. Physicalism says that the mind is a physical thing, therefore it does not matter that nonphysical things cannot interact casually with physical things. Physicalism is very easy to explain. In this quote, Thomas Watson explains to the people that everything happens for a reason and that a person should be satisfied with that reason. Upon the Burning of Our House by Anne Bradstreet, expresses a woman s emotional state of mind during the burning of her house and the fate she has in God. The story Deviland Tom Walker by Washington Irving, is about an unhappy married man that makes a pact with the devil that he eventually regrets. In Ben Franklin s autobiography, it states Franklin s list of the thirteen virtues and his weekly plan he had to accomplish them. In Anne Bradstreet s poem, Upon the Burning of Our House , it teaches the audience that even though bad things happen, God will always be there for a person in the long run. Bradstreet was feeling emotional about her house being up in flames, therefore she prays to God to help her out. After a couple minutes Bradstreet realizes that it was God s intention to create this fire. She came to the conclusion that what she had in her possession was not hers to begin with, it was God s. • 35. A Comparison Of Hills Like White Elephants And Happy Endings Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway and Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood share a gender oriented theme. They both show women struggling to attain equality against their male partners. This theme is depicted through the use of symbolism, point of view and plot conflict. Symbolically, Hills like White Elephants represents a choice. It is a life choice that can t be undone once it is made. This choice is about whether or not Jig, the female character of the story, should get an abortion. It supports the theme because if Jig chooses to keep the baby she is defying the wishes of her male partner, who is simply referred to as the man, and taking a stand for women by doing so. However it is not entirely clear what choice she makes at the end of the story. Her only words being, I feel fine...There s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine (216). The interpretation some people take for this is that she decided to keep the baby and chose to defy male domination. In Happy Endings the main symbols are how the relationships end be it cheating, age, or health complications. Cheating is symbolic of the relationship being dominated by only one person involved in it. Age is symbolic of both partners sharing or being equal in the relationship. Lastly health complications are a way of saying that fate, be it good or bad, can be involved, or that not everything works out according to plan. These are all related to the idea that by placing a dominant person in the relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Krispy Kreme s doughnuts used to be in very high demand, in our opinion because of the scarcity of the product: knowing that you can t have the product any time, any where, made it more desirable. Now that Krispy Kreme locations are more accessible, as well as the doughnuts being sold across grocery and convenience stores nation wide, the product has become more of a commodity rather than the niche product it once was. Product mix Krispy Kreme s product mix constitutes of two things: doughnuts and coffee. This leaves the company very exposed to changes in market demand that can be caused for example, by new and existing diets. The competition on the other hand, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Catholic Education Research Paper I cannot describe what Catholic Education means to me currently without recalling what it once meant to me. Catholic Education meant different things to me at different stages of my life. From kindergarten to around grade 5, Catholic Education was just education. I knew public schools existed. I understood that Catholic schools engaged students in the Catholic faith. Like my peers I would pray, listen during religionlessons, and sit cross legged on the gymnasium floor, cramped together with 500 other students. The masses meant nothing to me. (They really just meant discomfort because my legs would always fall asleep.) I listened to most lessons passively all the time, and religion lessons were no exception. Prayers were only memorized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I came to conclusions about my faith and Catholic Education. Catholic Education still does not mean much to me. However, it brings together people who (most of the time) come from a Catholic/Christian backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. For that I appreciate Catholic Education. What I do not find as nice about Catholic schools is that despite being centred around religion, people in Catholic schools can be just as mean spirited, rude, and uncompassionate as people in public schools, if not worse. I am aware that it is unrealistic to assume that those in Catholic schools are all wonderful people, but I find reality ironic. In my opinion, Catholic Education is like public education, except Catholic students have school masses and are obligated to take religion courses. As I introduced previously, being subject to Catholic Education and those devoutly religious for the better part of 13 years has guided me to my brand of Catholicism so to speak. Catholic Education has inadvertently, or possibly intentionally, started me off on my own spiritual path by showing me what I do not like about Catholicism (eg. the belief that not going to church is bad). Spirituality and personal religious beliefs are lifelong works in progress, and I suppose that without Catholic Education my progress would have started later in my ... • 51. The Origins of Russia Essay The Origins of Russia The country of Russia: enormous, expansive, wide open. The words that describe this Euro Asian country can be attributed to its origins from its Slavic inhabitants and the takeover by the Varangians. Kievan Russia, as it was called, started its own civilization in the year 862. The problem with the origin of the Russian State is that it is exceedingly complex and many theories are based on circumstantial evidence. A good example of this is the early history of the plains above the Black Sea. This region compromises the center of the Kievan State, yet much is unknown about these parts due to the lack of resources. Archaeological finds suggest many ideas, all of which are unconfirmed. The simplest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Scythians lived peacefully until the third century BCE. During that time, they were overcome by another nomadic tribe, the Sarmatians. Less than twenty five years after the Sarmatians conquered the Scythians, the Goths superseded the Sarmatians. The Goths were groups of uncivilized people who strengthened their kingdoms by keeping them in a state of terror. They were of Germanic descent, and reached the pinnacle of their strength during the early fourth century. Following the Goths were the Huns and the Avars. Meanwhile, the Slavs in the fifth century CE emerged and moved southward to come in contact with the East Roman Empire. The Slavs were split into three groups, called the Antae, Sclaveni, and the Venedi. Most historical references do not pay much attention to the Antic tribes, probably because of their disappearance in the late sixth century. The Sclaveni and Venedi joined and created a unified East Slavic empire. This Slavic kingdom slowly began to increase during the late 700s. The area that was held by the Avars in the 790s was demolished through Charlemagne s destruction of their empire. With that, the Slavic people began to migrate down to what is now Kiev. At Kiev, they encountered additional tribes such as the Finno Ugrians, Bulgars, and Khazars. The Finno Ugrians could be broken down into smaller less civilized tribes, though their counterparts, the Bulgars and the Khazars, were much more refined. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. The Modern Prometheus In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein The Modern Prometheus, a term coined by Mary Shelly in her novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. A modern Prometheus is a term used to describe someone who crosses an invisible boundary and brings something into this world, which might have a very large or a very small impact, that humanity loses the ability to control. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelly names Victor Frankenstein as a Modern Prometheus. Like the Prometheus from the myths, he steps over the boundaries and creates a superhuman homunculus who he cannot control, and who eventually destroys everything that was important in life for Victor. A modern Prometheus, however, does not always create something that is harmful, but rather something that can cause harm because it is beyond... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social media had been around for approximately 7 years when Facebook was originally launch the first site being Six Degrees, which was launched in the spring of 1997 (CBC News Staff). However, it is not the introduction of the idea of social media that makes Zuckerberg a modern Prometheus, but rather the extraordinary growth and success of his creation, Facebook, that gives him this title. Mark Zuckerberg recently said that ...Just wanting to connect people has been a pretty deep thing for me...it s something that I have cared about since I was a kid... (Zuckerberg, Highlights from Q A with Mark). He then goes on to recount how, when he was a child, he wanted all children to communicate to resolve their issues rather than fighting over them. Facebook was designed to help people connect and communicate with each other. However, Zuckerberg himself said ...you know, Facebook is not a static thing... (Zuckerberg, Highlights from Q A with Mark). This constant transformation of Facebook is slowly but surely pushing the boundaries of what we as humans had and has gradually given us something of which the implications go far beyond what anyone could have imagined 11 years ago when Facebook was first ... On the fifteenth summer, Cadence is found severely injured in water by the beach and suffers intense migraines that prevent her of remembering the cause of her accident. Her mother and her family members refuse to tell her what happenedand throughout the book, Cadence attempts to uncover the cause of the accident. However, when you look deeper into the scenarios the mini story is telling, Lockhart manages to retell what is going on in the book in a more metaphorical sense. For instance, towards the end of the novel, once Cadence figured out the truth behind her accident, she tells one last Once Upon a Time story. This last story talks about three beautiful children with hopes and aspirations and one witch who was jealous of the children s success and beauty. The witch places a curse on the three beautiful children so that they will die in a fire at the age of sixteen. The witch found them again when they were fifteen and disguised herself into a beautiful maiden so she can trick them into starting the fire. A start a fire the beautiful children did, and the witch watched as all of their wonderful qualities disappear in smoke (197 198). This last story that Cadence tells illustrates the guilt Cadence feels about Johnny, Mirren, and Gat s death. Cadence feels as if she was the cause of it all and took away everything they could have been. In the retelling, nowhere does it directly state that the story is about Cadence, Johnny, Mirren. And Gat. Through the use of semantics, the audience looks for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The bottlenecks are the areas (machines) in the plant that are constantly holding back the production of the finished product. The philosophy behind this will become clear in a moment. Philosophy of Ongoing Improvement Since the beginning of the industrial revolution manufacturing organizations have followed the rules that idle time is lost time. That the only way to make money is to keep everyone and everything operating at 100 percent. When in fact a plant that runs it s resources at 100 percent all the time is actually a very inefficient plant. Most of the time the struggle to meet efficiencies is taking the organization further away from it s goal. Excess production creates excess inventories that in turn ties up money and slows down or impedes cash flows. The key to balancing production is to search out those places in the plant that slows down all the processes behind it, essentially a bottleneck. Obviously the bottleneck can t just be removed so the rest of the process must be governed by the speed at which the bottlenecks can operate. Release of materials must be staggered so that just as a batch is sent through the bottleneck another batch is waiting in front of it to be processed. No other non bottleneck area can be allowed to operate faster than the bottlenecks can handle otherwise the inventories will begin to climb again. In order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Candide Character Analysis Discuss the female characters in Candide. Are they victims, or natural survivors? Do they deserve more pity or more admiration? Take one side only. In Voltaire s Candide, there is a young fellow that falls in love with a lady. She is kidnapped and the protagonist, Candide, embarks on a journey to find his love. I believe that he doesn t really love this young lady, Cunegonde, he is in love with her looks (or is in lust, if you will). We discover that he really doesn t love her at the end of the novel, but they still marry. The other female characters have similar backstories and are also seen as a body of desire. The only one that is not seen this way is an old woman. Regardless of age, all of the women have issues or tragic lives. I pity these people that have to live in a position that is seen as inferior to the majority of men. While I pity them, I also see how strong they are, and what they have endured in their lifespan. A character that is deserving of pity is Cunegonde. Cunegonde came from a line of high ranking people who are killed later in the novel. She was also kidnapped and raped by Bulgarians. She had to have sex with two men that were sharing her. When Candide finds her for the first time, the only thing that he cares about is how beautiful she is. He sees her and immediately believes that he is in love with her. Later on, in the novel, Candide finds her once again. This time though, she is old and hasn t aged well. Candide marries her and makes it known to the reader that it wasn t out of love, it was out of pity. I believe that this character is deserving of more pity, because no one deserves to go through the things that she has. No one took the time to get to know her. Candide didn t really care that much about her when he saw that she wasn t beautiful anymore. Pacquette is a character that deserves pity because her life was great until she started having sex with Pangloss and gave him syphilis. As a result, she ran out of money and became broke and she had no other option but to resort to prostitution. On Candide s journey to find Cunegonde he lands in Venice with martin and recognizes Pacquette and felt pity for her and he gave her a generous amount of money. Candide gave two thousand ...
