Sheet metal is the process of metalworking that forms new products fromvarious
types of sheet metal. Heating processes areused to harden or soften sheet metal
by heating or cooling it until it reaches the desired level of hardness, and also so it
is in a form that is workable.
Type of sheet metal material:
1. Stainless Steel: Standard stainless can be non-magnetic; any of the 300
series steels are the mostcommonly used type of stainless. And magnetic
stainless for sheet metal fabrication.
2. Cold rolled steel (CRS): The process of smoothing the finish of hot rolled
steel as well as holding a tighter tolerance when forming.
3. Aluminum: A moderately-priced material, aluminum has a range of
characteristics across severalgrades to meet application requirements.
4. Copper/Brass
5. Pre-plated steel:This sheet metal material is either hot-dip galvanized
steel or gal annealed steel, which is galvanized and then annealed.

Metal Working Tools:
 MetalCutting Saws: In the category of metal cutting saws, thereare
circular saws, chop saws, cold saws, and band saws. Band saws aremuch
more effective and safer than manual, handheld saws.
 Deburringand Beveling Tools: Lightweightyetrobust, deburring and
beveling equipment consists of bevel mills, grinders, sanders, and many
more. With powerfulmotors and vibration-freeoperation.
 SheetMetalRolling Equipment:Both manual and powered, sheet
metal rolling equipment is used to bend and roll metal sheets easily. From
slip rollers to wring rollers,
 Angle Grinder:Cutting, grinding, and polishing, angle grinders can be
used for all of these forms of fabrication. This handheld power tool can be
used on all different types of metal and, with different sizes available.
 Drill Bits: A standard-length drill bit and a shorter, machinescrew drill bit
are necessities for sheet metal fabrication.

Typesof sheetMetalFabrication Processes:
1. Thermal Cutting: is the preferred option for cutting sheets. A very
quick and precise cutting method that guarantees good results with
thicker materials, plasma cutting may be used because of its quickness.
with thicknesses upward of 10 mm though.
2. Mechanical Cutting: Shearing, or die-cutting, refers to a process that
cuts sheet metal without burning or melting it. Also, it does not produce
any chips shearing is not too different from cutting with scissors.
3. Punching: Punching is another way for cutting holes into a sheet. A
metal punch hits the sheet, perforating it. It is suitable for large-scale

production but not cost-effective for smaller jobs.
4.CUTTING MACHINES: -In sheet metal cutting machine, a variety of machine are
present, one particular cutting machine is called the alligator shear, it is called the alligator
shear because it has the looks of an alligator opening his lengthy jaw, the machine has a hinged

5. Rolling: is a rolling machine that refers to the process of forming the thickness
of sheet metals to be thinner depending on requirements, and the process
happens between 2 cylinders, that has slightly thicker sheet metal.
6. Drill: Is fine for drilling in softmetals like copper and aluminum. But for hard
metals such as stainless steel, it’s best to use drill bits made of chromevanadium,
cobalt, or titanium carbide.
