soap.
Shaving cream
softens the skin,
creating a more
luxurious shave.

People soon realized that you can mix
oils, fatty acids, and all sorts of
perfumes to create a more enjoyable
shave.
When all mixed together, these
ingredients can produce different types
of shaving “Softeners”.

the most commonly
used of all the
shaving products.

Myristic acid, when added to the
solution, bubbles and creates foam
faster.

Triethanolanmine
is a organic base
in the solution.
It helps
neutralize the pH
and helps make the
oils in the foam
more soluble.

Hydroxides of Sodium and
Potassium play a part in creating
it also.
They make the fatty acids more
soluble in the water. They too
control the pH of the solution.
Glycerin is used to retain water,
increasing the lather and
stability.
