Building a SharePoint Platform That ScalesScott Hoag
SharePoint adoption tends to be viral in most organizations, growing faster than IT groups are able to able handle. Most organizations work toward quick user adoption. Only a handful properly assess what their true vision for SharePoint is within their organization, building their physical architecture without having a logical architecture or core taxonomy in place.
In this session we will cover the basics of core design requirements, how they affect logical architecture design and taxonomies, and in turn how best to utilize the equipment available to the IT organization.
SharePoint is a powerful product and can be many things to its many customers allowing each to customize it for their own unique business needs. Over the past 9 years I've worked with SharePoint, I've learned some valuable lessons and insights into key areas of the product that should come with warning labels to handle with care.
Some choices made in SharePoint can have detrimental side effects and end up to costing organizations time, rework and money to resolve. In this talk I'll share a few common ones I've learned and you will benefit by being able to recognize some of these before they become a problem in your own environment.
With more than 85 million people actively using Office 365, enterprises are looking to the platform to provide underlying technology to support knowledge management efforts.
In this webinar, Withum's Jill Hannemann, Principal, discusses fundamentals of a knowledge management strategy and areas where the technology of Office 365 aligns with process and people.
Jill focuses on how different workloads within Office 365 support functions such as sharing, organizing, finding, and retaining valuable, unstructured knowledge.
Branding alone cannot support the user experience in SharePoint. The successful redesign of an existing SharePoint site is dependent on multiple factors that are often overlooked.
This session is designed for Architects, Designers, and IT Pros and includes the following:
-Common Causes of Branding Problems in SharePoint
-Demonstration of "crappy content" and impact on branding
Overview of the elements of User Experience (UX)
-Methods to improve user experience and overall look and feel without touching a master page

Differentiating between web APIs, SOA, & integration…and why it mattersKim Clark
At a high level, both SOA and web APIs seem to solve the same problem – expose business function in real-time and in a reusable way. This tutorial looks at how these initiatives are different and how they align into an evolving integration architecture. It discusses how API Management differs from the integration architectures that came before it, such as SOA and EAI.

Things Made Easy: One Click CMS Integration with Solr & Drupallucenerevolution
Presented by Peter Wolanin | Acquia, Inc - See conference video - http://www.lucidimagination.com/devzone/events/conferences/lucene-revolution-2012
If you have a new web project or and existing Drupal site, the combination of Drupal and Apache Solr is both powerful and easy to set up thanks to the existing integration code. The module allows for substantial customization with the administrative UI. Drupal facilitates further customizations of the UI, indexing, and bosting because of the open architecture that provides multiple opportunities for custom code to alter the behavior. A couple code snippets will be followed by a review of other contributed Drupal modules that further enhance the search capability.
Finally, this session will showcase some example of Drupal sites using Solr including Acquia's own sites and Drupal sites including many well-known Enterprise and government sites.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms.
