HOOK & EYE”
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the
lesson the students
should be able to:
a. Define hook and eye.
b. Perform sewing hook
and eye.
c. Value the importance
of sewing hook and

History of Hook and Eye
This form of fastening first appears under
the name of "crochet and loop" in 14th
century England.
The first reference to the modern term
“hook and eye" appears in Aubrey's
Brief Lives in 1697, which describes
a breeches and doublet being attached
with “hook and eye".
Breeches are an
article of
clothing covering
the body from
the waist down,
with separate
coverings for
each leg.
Doublet is a
man's snug-
fitting Buttoned
jacket that is
shaped and fitted
to the man's
body which was
commonly worn
in Spain.
Hook and Eye
Is a clothes fastener
consisting of a small blunt
metal hook that is inserted in a
corresponding loop or eyelet.
There are two kinds of eye.
The round and straight eye.
The round eye is used to
fasten edges that meet each
other.
ROUND EYE
The straight eye, or called “peat”,
is used to fasten edges that lap each
other.
STRAIGHT EYE
Hook and
Eye is
important
because it
secures the
closing of
the
garments.
Trade and Terms:
1. Stitch- a single passage of a
threaded needle or other implement
through fabric and back again.
2. Overhand stitch- a stitch
passing over an edge vertically.
3. Overlap- to cover part of the
edge of something.
4. Loop- a length, line or rope
that is doubled over to make an
opening.
5. Knot- an intertwining of the
parts of one or more ropes.

PROCEDURE
For the hook:
1. Measure 1/8 inch from the finished edge

2. To hide the knot, place your first stitch
under the hook. Take four overhand stitches
across the neck of the hook to secure.
3. Pass needle under the hook and top
layer of fabric toward the wire loops.
The needle should exit up through the
loop.
4.Take 5-8 overhand stitches over the
looped wire of the hook and lock to
prevent stitches from coming loose.
For the eye:
1. Measure 1/8 inch beyond the finished edge
and mark for the end of the round eye. Then,
