Holden Caulfield Psychoanalysis
The human mind is a complicated paradox, which has been trying to be deciphered by scientists,
psychiatrists, philosophers and many other professionals since the dawn of civilization. The
psychoanalytic theory was laid out by Sigmund Freud, which mainly focuses on various
psychological types and principles present within different works of literature. (Sousa) The novel,
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger can be analyzed from a psychoanalytic critical perspective
as various subconscious human actions are portrayed through the protagonist of the story. The book
reveals how the narrator and the main character, Holden Caulfield goes through different phases of
emotional states in order to discover the inevitable transition period between childhood... Show

Throughout the entire novel, Holden searches for the simplicity of childhood in the adult world.
Holden wants to hold on to this innocence and never wants to grow up. He wants to stop the
time, so that children do not have to grow up. In his world full of phonies , he considers Phoebe
as a place of mental shelter, who symbolizes the purity of childhood. Phoebe helps him realize the
truth of life, which is that everyone has to go through the transition period and experience the
reality of life. Ultimately, Holden understands that he cannot protect all the children, which is
demonstrated in his thoughts, The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring
[which symbolizes adulthood], you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off,
they fall off, but it it s bad if you say anything to them. (Salinger, 211) Therefore, Holden uses
regression as another defense mechanism because he denies leaving behind his old memories and
holds on to his values of the purity of

Marfans Syndrome
The likely inheritance of Marfans syndrome is autosomal dominant and vertically inherited trait.
In an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern, a person only needs one copy of the dominant
allele from one parent to display the disorder. If they do not have Marfans syndrome, they are
not a carrier for the disease. A person who has Marfans has a 50% chance of passing that disease
to its offspring, as long as their partner does not have Marfans. If a person with Marfans were to
mate with another person with Marfans, the chance of transmission is much higher, at least 75%.
We can see by the pedigree that this could be an autosomal dominant disorder in that any persons
who have inherited this disorder have done so, vertically, from an affected... Show more content on

Although there is only a 50% that Alex passes down Marfans to his child, each child has an
equal percent chance of inheriting it, regardless is their siblings inherited it. Each child or birth
is an independent event and does not take in to account the previous sibs genotype. Alex and Jane
also have only three children, which is a small sibship and may not truly show a 50% ratio, like it
might if they had 10 children. It does not seem as though there could be a double dominant
genotype in Alex, causing a more than 50% chance of passing risk, because that would mean that
Mary, Alex s mother would need to have at least one dominant allele, which she does

My Papa s Waltz Rhyme Scheme
This short poem has a lot to say about a father and son s relationship even though it does not
directly say it. Theodore Roethke published My Papa s Waltz in 1942 and got the idea to write
this poem from one of his books The Lost Son. This poem can be interpreted as an abusive
relationship between a sonand his father or simply a happy memory of a son dancing with his
father. My Papa s Waltzis a metaphor for a child being beat by his abusive father but plays it off as
if it were just a dance.
The poem has a simple rhyme scheme in every stanza and it goes abab, cdcd, efef, ghgh. When
saying the poem the rhyming comes off as a beat and this can be related to the actual dance the
waltz. When dancing you dance to the beat and the rhyming Roethke

Competitiveness In America
Over the period of study, the relative strength in the Peripheral South diminished as the Republican
Party became more competitive in the Deep South. Over time, one should see both the national and
state indexes increase with the state party index lagging behind the national party index. While this
is far from definitive, it supports the findings of some scholars who say that the increase in
Republican Party competitiveness started at the national level and went to affect the
competitiveness of electionsto lower level political offices. A major reason that the state score
index lags behind the national index is that the state index includes state legislative offices (and not
votes as we have for the other offices included in the MPI) which... Show more content on

This is why I included the percentage of congressional turnout in the model. One should know from
previous research, that increases in voter turnout in the South was not confined to African
Americans. Several scholars saw an increase in white voter turnout from the early 1950s to the
1970s of about 70 percent. Voting was no longer for the populations better people, but instead
became more universal. Looking at figures 3.3 and 3.4, it is evident that there is an upward trend in
the data, but that the increase is much larger in the Deep South than in the Peripheral South. The

Consumer Buying Behavior And Demographics Like Age, And...
According to Investopedia, market arbitrage can be defined as buying and selling the same item
in different marketplaces so at to profit from a difference in price between the two markets. An
arbitrageur (a person involved in arbitrage) buys a lower priced item and short sells the higher
priced one. The spread between the two becomes his profit.
How to apply market arbitrage on eBay.com.au
Arbitrage is undoubtedly one of the ways of making money online. Before we even delve into its
application on eBay.com.au, it is important to note that eBay.com has a Market Data Program. This
program provides data on the items that are purchased on eBay.com and gives insight into the
consumer as well. This data is crucial for every arbitrageur, as it will help them:
explore the pricing of the products that they may intend to re sell on ebay.com.au
understand consumer buying behavior and demographics like age, and gender
identify market gaps, that is, where there are supply constraints
make informed decisions on the products that will sell fast
know the best time of the day and week to sell
know how shipping costs may affect the sale price
get to know the target market in general
It is therefore safe to say that before you even think about how to apply arbitrage on eBay.com.au,
you must access the Market Data Program, and study as well as analyze it keenly.
It is important to note that the best way to make money on eBay.com.au is by buying elsewhere

The Latehomecomer Essay
The book, The Latehomecomer, is a fascinating story about a Hmong family and their struggle to
get out of Laos and come to America as refugees. The Hmong people are a very proud people and
they do not want to forget their culture. One can clearly see that the Hmong people hold close their
identity and do not want to conform to the Vietnamese way. They take pride in their culture, their
society, and the way they view how government should run. Hmong peopledid not agree with the
Vietnamese communist government and were willing to join forces and help the United Statesas

It was very tough for the Hmong s that were still in Vietnam and Laos after the war. The American
armed forces was these people s only protection and after they just picked up and left for their
home shores the Hmong people that were still alive faced severe hardships. They had no food
and water and most of their homes were all destroyed. Most of the men and young adult boys
were killed in the war and the Vietnamese and Laos soldiers were still pursing the Hmong people
because they wanted to terminate the Hmong people. It was also tough for the Hmong people
that were left because the American s had stopped bringing food drops along with medical
supplies. I believe family is such an important part in this family s life because they are all that
each other has got. They hold close to their family because they have been through so much and
they see death all around them, so they see the importance of their family. They also are taught
from a very young age to respect their elders in the family because they have seen much more
and know much more about all aspects of life. They are viewed as wise and knowledgeable and
the young family members cherish the opportunity to learn from them. In the movie Gran Torino

Sociological Perspectives On Incense

Functionalist Theorists
Incense are made of all natural materials used for direct burning. Today, and in history, incense are
known to be ritualistic and needed to complete various traditions. Based on my own religion,
Catholic churches often use incense to prepare for prayers and rituals. Incense are used in Catholic
churches mainly during prayers for smell, and for the use of smoke. The aroma of incense are used
to communicate with God, by sending good wishes, and prayers through its rich fragrance.
Conflict Theorists
Many people who aren t religious believe incense are not necessarily needed to complete rituals or

Ancient Mayan Script Of The Maya
Ancient Mayan Script The Maya hieroglyphic writing is perhaps one of the most complex
writing systems in the world. This writing system contains over hundreds of rare signs or glyphs
in the form of humans, animals, and objects. Many of these signs contained either logograms or
syllabograms to write words, sentences, and phrases. Logograms were to used express the
meaning and syllabograms to denote sound values. The Mayan s were able to write anything that
they can say. They were able to turn whatever they spoke into a writing form because of their one
of a kind writing system. The Maya were actually not a group of single people but many nations
with several but linked cultures, religions, and languages. Of the many Maya languages, only two...

He found a specific category of hieroglyph that he called Emblem Glyphs he noticed that this
glyph had a standard position and form in Maya texts: they occurred towards the end of
passages (Culbert 19). Another important object found was the Maya Glyph Block (AMNH),
which contained Mayan Glyphs on a block. We found that the order to read Maya glyphs is not
as easy as it would seem. Glyph blocks were arranged in a grid and they are read in paired
columns. The first block is on the top left and the second is to the right of the first. (AS Web)
Next thing that major in the Maya writing system was the numbers. Numbers and Calendar were
the first part of the Mayan writing system to be deciphered by scholars during the 19th century.
Comparable to our writing system and the Babylonians, the Maya used the idea of place value.
Except we have a place value that increases from right to left in multiples of 10, the Maya system
has a place value that increases in multiples of 20. Instead of the place value increasing
horizontally from right to left, the Maya increased vertically moving up the page. For example,
three is represented and three dots and five are represented as a bar. The Maya scribes loved
decoration and complexity for its own sake as a result each number from 1 to 20

The Final Deployment Model Is Like No Other
The final deployment model is like no other. It is called a hybrid cloud deployment. Unlike
being only available to the public or to a specific organization, a hybrid is a combination of the
others. The cloud starts out as separate clouds, and is combined by standards and technology that
manipulates the clouds to satisfy the needs of each (NIST). An example is like a hybrid course
where the material is divided among online and in class, and each load is split based on how much
time is allocated to each. All things considered from models, to characteristics, to deployment
models one must choose wisely and understand how each combination works and how it would
work for the intended purpose. Among most things, there are upfront cost, and... Show more content

Alternatively, if it resides in house then the IT resources would need to remain and maintain the
cloud. There again lies the decision of how the company would need to allocate the cost and
resources to move towards cloud computing. Once it is known how the upfront cost and location
will be handled, then comes the accounting portion for the upfront cost for the cloud. Just like lease
accounting, there are certain criteria that must be met before knowing whether to capitalize or
expense the cost, and where to place on the financial statements. To capitalize the cost, the consumer
must meet two requirements. First, the consumer must be able to obtain ownership of the cloud
(Conaghan). Secondly, the consumer must be able to run the cloud on their own hardware, or said
consumer can contract another host (Conaghan). If the consumer meets these requirements, they
can capitalize and consider it a service contract. Once considered as a service contract, the
consumer will then depreciate the software and label it as a fixed asset on the balance sheet
(Depth). This will allow for the consumer to expense over the life of the cloud. Conversely, if the
two criteria are not met the consumer must use the expenditure method. The expenditure method
requires that all upfront cost must be expensed at once (as incurred), and reflect on the balance
sheet as such

God s Mercy, Compassion, Patience And Love For Those Who...
Purpose
The Book of Judges bares witness to the simpleness of humans and sets forth God s mercy,
compassion, longsuffering, patience and love for His people no matter how depraved they may
be. Along with the aforementioned purposes, one of the main aims of Judges was to
demonstrate divine judgment of the apostasy of Israel. Israel s continual disobedience to God
and worship of Canaanite gods resulted in their failure to experience divine blessing in the full
conquest of her enemies. Canaanite influence in moral and social areas lead to the apostasy and
anarchy of Israel. Therefore, the oppressors pictured and the powers of this world sought and still
seek to bring people into bondage. Judges acts as a warning to those who turn away from God to
idol worship.
Author
Though the author of the Book of Judges in unknown, internal evidence suggests that it was
written during the early days of the monarchy after the coronation of King Saul, but before the
conquest of Jerusalem by king David. For example, the phrase, there was no king in Israel, is
repeated four times toward the end of the book (Jdg 17:6; 18:1; 19:1; 21:25). It evidently looks
backward to when Israel did have a king. Secondly, in chapter one verse twenty one , we re told
that the Jebusites are still living in Jerusalem. Apparently, that must have been written before King
David s conquest to the city (2 Sam. 5:6 7). Lastly, the reference to Canaanites in Gezer (Jdg 1:29)
suggests a date before the time the

After closely analysing the text The Color Purple , written by Alice Walker, themes such as a

Bressler states that As a social movement, feminist criticism highlights the various ways women in

Australian Kooala s Natural Habitats
As an Australian native marsupial, the koala has been listed as endangered across majority of its
natural habitats. At one point, its population had grown to almost 10 million, but has dropped to
100,000 or less still in the wild because of human activity. Many have taken action to restore the
population of the koala. The koala s background proves that their population decline is effected
mainly on humans. Numerous people refer to the koala as a koala bear, but in reality it is a
marsupial, similar to a wombat. It is found in the Australian states of Queensland, New South
Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. This nocturnal animal lives mostly in eucalyptus forests
where its main food source is the leaves of the tree. Without disturbance, the koala can live up to
15 years. While it may have no natural predators in the wild, it does have exposed skin on its face,
hands, and feet which can make it vulnerable to fires and further threaten the population. Although
other factors like fires harm koalas, humans have the most impact on the koala. The koala may not

Youth Reflection Paper
Even in 2017 social injustice is very real. Many before have taken measures against this issue,
but it s still there. Over the past couple of week s, I ve taken notice to the events that have been
going on in the world. While keeping the question how can I change that in mind. It occurred to
me that many of the oppressors committing social injustices were victims themselves. They were
not properly educated when they were younger. Growing up thinking something is right your
whole life is hard to change. So, I knew that s where I would start. The youth is the future and
should be an improvement from the previous generation. I ve been fortunate enough to experience
different cultures, and people my whole life. From going to Laotian New Year, to participating in
Muslim community programs, etc. the list goes on. Also, I have Black, White, Indian, and; Asian,
Arabic, Hispanic, and Native American friends. Who I learn from every day. So, how do I give
others the education and lessons that I ve been taught? While I was doing my government
homework about labor unions it hit me! The definition of a union is, an organized association of
workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests. What better way to promote social
injustice then to have an organization of likeminded, diverse individuals. Directed at the youth of
the world, this organization would be comprised of teens. Through my various connections I would

Flowers And Come A Stranger
With experience comes knowledge. This is why everyone says that it is OK to fail. When you
fail you learn, and when you learn you fail more. Failing more will help you try harder. You get
knowledge when you experience different situations, because you will know how to react to that
situation. Both the texts Flowers by Alice Walker, and Come A Stranger by Cynthia Voigt have
vivid examples of how experiencecomes with knowledge. In Flowers, a little girl named Myop was
walking through the woods in her own little path, when she stepped on a dead man s skeleton.
For a moment she was surprised, but then, she paid her respects by placing a red rose near him.

The Epistemic Closure Principle By Edmund Gettier
Alexander Jerde Phil 312 10/20/2014
The Epistemic Closure Principle The Epistemic closure principle explains that knowledge can be
gained by the logically implied inferences between a predicate, based on past experience, and a
conclusion. By definition epistemic closure purports that we are justified in believing that our
logical inferences are true. Therefore, we can conclude that our past experience (predicate) is a
reason to believe a proposition. This principle has been used as the basis of various forms of
skeptical arguments against the traditional analysis and inductive/deductive reasoning. Such an
example was presented by Edmund Gettier, whose arguments question if we are justified in
believing our beliefs as knowledge. Also, Hume questioned if we can really trust inductive
/deductive reasoning. In the following I will argue that even though, Gettier s arguments hold some
truth, we are still caused to conclude that the epistemic closure is a logical necessity and true. The
epistemic closure principle states that knowledge can be gained by acceptance of predicates
logically implied relationship with their conclusions. Epistemic closure entails that, deductive and
logical reasoning are sound principles of reaching knowledge. Also that, a conclusion (proposition)
can be known then by understanding that a necessary logical or deductive inference between a
predicate and a conclusion exist. Epistemic closure also entails that we are justified

Transportation Is A Leap Of Faith
Margaret Sheppard said, Sometimes the only available transportation is to take a leap of faith. I
am fortunate enough to be blessed with such a family that has been able to make friends
wherever we have moved. And believe me, we have done a lot of moving. Though we always
stayed in the same little town, I dreaded it. Dreaded the packing, the strangeness and the
weariness that came from moving. It was tough to be completely jerked free from our home
every few years, but it also came with the thrill of a new beginning. Finally, after four moves, we
felt like we found our place. It was a private cul de sac, complete with the crazy cat lady and
millions of children. We were forever finding new things to climb, new holes to dig, and new
hideouts that were lovingly dubbed Narnia . Life seemed perfect. Then slowly, thoughts crept into
our heads. Thoughts that made us question whether there was somewhere else we needed to be.
Whether there was more we needed to do. I ignored it, sure that it would disappear. It wasn t until
our parents sat my siblings and I down, and told us the unthinkable that I realized the thoughtnever
truly went away. They paused, looking at each of us individually before taking a deep breath. We

city that will be built on farmlands on the Ewa plains will offer more reasonable prices for homes
and more businesses. The development of Ho opili will better the economy and provide affordable
housing for Hawaii residents.
Why is Ho opili beneficial to our economy you might think? Ho opili will be a new city that will
consist of affordable housing to Hawaii s residents. Here on the islands we are suffering from high
cost of living and an even higher housing market. On USA Today s Most Expensive states to live

price to even afford a home here in paradise. Here in Hawaii, a lot of people chose to rent

The Gangster Genre of Films Essays
The Godfather is the most revolutionary gangster film of all time, it rewrote the gangster genre in
such a stylized way that all latter gangster films have conformed to this genre but also evolved it as
films have progressed.
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola The Godfather re invented the gangster genre elevating it to a
Hollywood status and making it commercially profitable. It looks into the life of the Corleone
family and represents America at that point in time. It portrays the violence and power, corruption
and justice, honour and obligation apparent at that time.

All gangster movies have been judged by the standards of this one, it has a very strong script that is
well plotted, although at times difficult to understand.
Two other gangster directors are Quentin Tarantino, famous for many films but Pulp Fiction stands
out, and Guy Ritchie, the writer of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels . and Snatch . Both of
these writers have been influenced by The Godfather , its stereotypes, plots and gangster families,
and although both writers have both influenced the genre in their separate ways, neither of them
have made quite the impact that The Godfather did. However, Pulp Fiction adopted a large cult
status, it became increasingly popular and became a Hollywood blockbuster, it did in its own re
invent the gangster genre regarding the association of humour and the subversion of the original
Godfather genre.
Tarantino made Pulp Fiction in 1994 and it was regarded as innovative and different, he plays
around with the timeline of the three inter connecting storylines that leaves you dazed and
confused, but strangely satisfied. Tarantino manages this by introducing the protagonist of each
story in the previous story, either as a minor character or a stock character.
This gives you the impression that you have

Gender And Politics James Joyce s Dubliners
Gender and Politics in James Joyce s Dubliners At the turn of the 20th century, a young Irish
novelist, James Joyce, released his first collection of short stories on Irish identity and what it
means to exist in Ireland. In some of his most well known stories, you can see Joyce building a
contrast between the men and the women in Irish society. One of his most well known short
stories, The Dead takes a very explicit approach to gender politics as well as the idea of identity
and race. My intention is to build a web from several stories in Dubliners and their political, racial
and cultural implications as well as how they have influenced Irish culture. Dubliners was one of the

His solipsistic assumptions that he is the reason she developed a liking for alcohol is indicative
of how he views how truly important he was to her. His response is characteristic of how Joyce
began to view the Irish later in life, especially since many Irish were very reserved and buttoned

directly affirms that he is trying to exemplify what a true Irish citizen should be. Yet he is also
paralyzed by his sense of moral superiority and what he believes he must represent. It ends with
him being alone yet again. A character that contrasts Mr. Duffy s initially composed nature is

him and eventually infects his family. He starts off arguing with his boss, showing a disregard for

Volatility within Electronic Communication Essay
Volatility within Electronic Communication
It has been noticed on several different forums for several decades that communicating on the
internet can be downright mean. Anonymity, lack of accountability, absence of visual cues, and
perceived distance has led to the increased hostility and rudeness on internet social media. This
uncivil communication has also been shown to hurt the perpetrator more than it hurts whoever is on
the receiving end (Rope, n.d.). As a result, it has been determined that face to face communication
is more productive and healthy than communication via electronic formats for all parties involved
in the conversation.
This volatile communication is not a recent development following the explosive growth of ... Show

An additional factor that makes virtual communication so misunderstood is that a part of the
message, the sender s tonality and body language, is removed in virtual communication, thus
removing a large part of the overall message. Just think about this for a moment, remove eye to
eye contact, the emphasis or urgency in the voice of the sender, or even a simple roll of the eyes.
People are accustom to communicating face to face, allowing them to pick up on the subtle cues
that body language gives during conversation. By not seeing the body language involved, large
portion of the message is not sent, received or understood, thus changing the meaning of the
message, and quite possible drastically in certain cases. Gardner states in her article, Troll
Psychology: Why People Are So Mean on the Internet, that when humans are faced with guesswork
and ambiguity, they often perceive it as threatening and react accordingly (page 1). Overall, the
message that Gardner is attempting to convey here is, that when important, yet subtle, cues are
removed, the human brain reverts to its basic survival instincts of fight or flight. In doing this, the
message is taken as a threat, and the receiver reacts accordingly with a negative retort.
Not only can communication lack the needed cues given by body language, but often times reader
comments following a factual news story can alter what other readers may think about the

The Theory Of Education On Children s Brain Development
In life there is always something going on in the background and music surrounds us every day
whether we notice it or not. So why not intrigue students by bringing it into the classroom? There
is a lot of benefits to having music in the classroom and it helps students expand on their
knowledge. However, to bring it into the classroom a teacher needs to acknowledge how children
learn. There is a multitude of research on children s brain development. Therefore let us dive into
the findings and beliefs of Swiss psychologist Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. According to the
Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, Johann s theories have laid the foundation of modern
elementary education. His theory of education stresses the importance that the individuality of a
child is foremost. As noted above, Pestalozzi broke from the mold of the predominant system
beliefs of strict discipline and memorization learning. This approach is more child centered than a
teacher approach to teaching. It focuses on the child s needs and interests. It encourages a loving
environment and it replaces the authority of strict discipline. Furthermore, Pestalozzi was inspired
and expanded on Jean Jacques Rousseau s findings. He refined his thoughts on head, heart, and
hands in harmonious unity. Pestalozzi stated that the head forms the cognitive capacity to think and
understand. In addition, he stated the heart is the sense of direction and inner dignity within us.

George Bush Decision Points Analysis
The eight years of George Bush s presidency were some of the most controversial, and
consequential of any president s in our nations history. There were many domestic and foreign
concerns that were in the forefront of the country s mind, and they had to be dealt with swiftly
and with great competence. Whether that is how President Bush handled those concerns is still
highly debated, by the common man and the President himself. In his book Decision Points ,
President Bush documents the processes and thoughts he went through in deliberating the
responses to the many conflicts that he faced in his early life, his governorship, and mainly his
presidency. As in any presidency there are successes and failures, and Bush displays his
opinions of his. The memoir provides a more personal feel to a man who was in a position that
most people can feel little personal connection with. He provides an honest and insightful into the
inner workings of his cabinet, his decisions, and his reactions to the world around him. Though
typically regarded as a negative presidency by most scholars, Bush does a sufficient job of
manifesting the fact that there were positives of his presidency. George Bush was able to be

Relationship Between Architecture And The Human Body
The Relationship between Architecture and the Human Body
Introduction
The human body is the ultimate tool for discovering the environment. Human anatomy is
considered to be nature s peak of perfection and certain features serve as inspiration for many
architects. To study the relationship between the human body and architecture, one must not be
limited to human body parts resemblance to architectural works but to a larger extent consider
human emotions, sensory nerves, the mind and general human psychology. In essence everything
that makes us human. In its simplest definition Architecture can be described as an art or practice
of designing buildings. It is practiced in a way that accomplishes both practical and communicative
or expressive requirements. To relate it to human body then Architecture can widely define the
place, the site, the energy, the systems, the building, the flora and fauna. These components that
bring aesthetic property to humanity apart from the utilitarian purpose it serves. The perfect
balance of a normal human body and the proportions are incorporated into architecture from a point
of view of imitation, idealized allusion and the actual human use. Evidence of such human
incorporation into architecture is seen from the Ancient Greek Architectures where it was common
for tower columns to take shape of a human being like in the colossus of the Ancient ... Show more

The Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg happened after Lee won Chancelorsville. Lee

Essay Disadvantages Of Deficit Spending
Deficit spending is defined as government spending, in excess of revenue, of funds raised by
borrowing rather than from taxation . Government deficit is the foundation of our economical
system. Deficit spending is the process of spending more money than you have coming in.
Government purchases make up the next largest category and this contains items that the
government pays for to continue to operate plus the value of the goods and services put out by the
government. It does not however include government payments such as welfare or social security.
There are many advantages in deficit spending; one for example is increase growth within the
economy. When the government spend excessively then it creates affordable supply and demand
for the country. This creates long term jobs and adds to the workforce. Money flowing through the

The substantial task of desegregation did not come without its struggles. Parents were faced with
issues of involvement in their child s education due to distance between their child s school and
home. Some schools reported vandalism and student frustration in regards to the change of scenery.
In 2001, busing for Charlotte students ended, but not without leaving a legacy. Since the
termination of busing, student test scores continue to rise, even surpassing those of other urban
school districts such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston (NPR, 2004).
Though mandatory busing ended, school districts continue to encourage the multicultural
movement by providing magnet programs for families who would like their child to attend another
school. The concept is the same as busing; however, participation is voluntary. Economically, the
gap is narrowing, balancing our communities. Forty percent of African Americans consider
themselves to be middle class, seventy five percent own their own homes, and two parent
households earn just thirteen percent less than Caucasian parents (Thernstrom, 1998). There are
improvements to be made as the economy continues to control and group together families within
the same income bracket. Many times, this binds families to certain schools with no other options
available. Statistics show that from 1993 to 2003, there was a similar outcome regarding the
schools middle class families attended. Out of a study of one

Literature with the theme of self-destruction
The act of being self destructive does not just come to be. It occurs slowly and takes hold in
individuals to varying degrees, contingent upon how cold they are, and by their level of self
absorption and conceited desires. A combination of these characteristics can be discerned in each of
the protagonists from the literary forms I studied. Each character is self destructive, but the
consequences of their actions and the number of people they hurt tends to magnify depending on
how many of these characteristics they appear to demonstrate. What unites these characters is their
ultimate self destruction, resulting in the death of three out of four characters studied here. These
four characters are Macbeth, from the play Macbeth by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Kenny then turned the gun towards Tub, Tub s emotions escalated into fear, which had
instant consequences for Kenny, as Tub reacted on those emotions, without thinking. Society can
learn from these examples. Listening to our feelings and recognising emotions, should be
something we are taught to heed. They are a prime source of information, working to keep us safe.
Macbeth and Kenny teach us that strong emotions like guilt and fear are therefore important
because they have the power to prevent repetition of cruel acts that have negative consequences.
Becoming cold and callous, by blocking access to feelings, is an important teaching tool for society.
An additional flaw that facilitates the destruction of the character s self is the egotistical, conceited
self absorption the protagonists Eddie, Ben, and Macbeth have in themselves. This is evident in
Eddie Carbone s inability to compromise when he finds his incongruous desires for his Niece

The main idea of the story is that the language has a great importance in a person s life, whether a

Sullivan in the life of Helen Keller, her mood was dark all the time because she was unable to
communicate to her surrounding world. The story is also showing that learning a language for a
deaf and blind person is equally important because in this way they can feel and see the world.
Language unveiled a new world to her where she had an opportunity to learn something new which
ultimately improved her mood, and changed her thoughts about life. For the first time she realized

The Gulf of Mexico covers an area of 600,000 square miles and is located between Mexico, Cuba

Primary pollutants detected consisted mostly of hydrocarbons that were emitted into the
atmosphere from evaporated or burned oil on the water surface, and nitrogen oxides, emitted by
both the flaring of the natural gas and from the clean up processes close near the spill site. Once
in the atmosphere, these compounds photochemically reacted to produce secondary pollutants
such as Ozone and peroxacetyl nitrates (PANs) (Middlebrook et al., 2011). Other pollutants were
also detected, such as secondary organic aerosols (SOA), a product of intermediate volatile
organic compounds, and soot particles, black carbon and carbon monoxide from in situ burning of
oil or from the cleanup processes (Gouw et al., 2011).
According to EPA (2016), air pollutants, especially fine particles ( 2.5Ојm), can cause health risks
to respiratory systems of both humans and animals. These pollutants can contribute to the formation
of acid rain, damage vegetation, deplete nutrients in soil, contribute to cloud formation and affect

In the chapter of January in the novel Water For Chocolate the recipe and the dish of what Tita
makes relates to the content in the chapter numerous times. In the recipe hard rolls are used to
wrap up the rolls. Hard rolls can mean a various amount of things like the hard rolls represent the
hardships in the chapter and the situations that were hard to deal with or overcome. These
representations were inferred by pages 8,11, 12 and 13. On page 8 Tita is punished for burning
Rosaura s hand by accident and is spanked by Mama Elena and forbidden to play with her sisters
ever again but; Nacha decided to cheer up Tita by being her new playmate. On pages 11 13
Mama Elena tells Tita she cannot be married to Pedro because she is supposed to take care of her
when she becomes old. When Tita attempts to reason with Mama Elena she rules her out as being
disrespectful and rebellious. But, Mama Elena offers Tita s older sister Rosaura and Pedro agrees
but secretly is marrying to become closer to Tita.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The representations inferred can also be found in the book as textual evidence from the pages 6
and 11. On page 6 when Tita is born Tita is said to be crying nonstop to the point where they

sardines represents the stench of sinful acts between Pedro and Tita going behind Rosaura s

Advantages And Advantages Of Bioenergy And Solar Energy
Nowadays, global warming is causing terrible damages from climate change such as powerful
typhoons, hurricanes, tsunami, super flood to human lives. It has become a big issue since the
changes have happened more frequently. Therefore, many scientists are struggling with finding
some alternative sources of energy to fossil fuelwhich release a great amount of carbon dioxide that
have affected global warming. Governments also struggle with finding some possible solutions to
deal with climate change. They are encouraging and investing on researching new energy sources.
Bioenergy and solar energyhave been highly used as alternative energies. This essay will explore
the advantages and disadvantages of bioenergy and solar energy. How governments encourage
spreading renewable energy in the specific countries will be described.
Bioenergy is a renewable energy which is obtained by combusting the biomass. It is also called
biomass energy . Biomass is one of alternative sources, which consists of different materials such
as trees, construction wood, sewage sludge, manure, and farm waste including cornhusks, peanut
shells, leaves and so on (Ischenko et al, 2007). Ischenko et al (2007) claim that biomass releases
less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel. In the other words, it helps to slow down the pace of global
warming. Another advantage of it is turning the great amount of waste such as potato peels, used
cooking oil, pig intestines into useful energy. So it can reduce the costs of

Napoleon s Warfare Strategies And Tactics On Modern Day...
Napoleon Bonaparte is credited with being a great military tactician as well as a military genius
during his era. He played a significant role in world history and the art of war. The man s genius
was fundamentally practical, and all the military concepts he used were attributed to his close
study that he did of his earlier commanders, predominantly Fredrick the Great. He did not trust any
novel idea and thus by no means used other people s concepts. He made the fullest utilization of
the notions of his predecessors, which he breathed life into them making them successful.
Napoleon had to be strategic in order to be victorious in his conquests. The skills, strategies and
tactics he used in the battlegrounds were desired and thus copied by many during his era and up
today. Warfare especially during the Napoleonic era fundamentally changed modern warfare and
continues to be the main reason the militarystudies Napoleon today. It impacted the battles of
today. This essay s main purpose is to point out the impacts of Napoleon s warfare strategies and
tactics on modern day warfare. It will analyze the principles Napoleon used during his era, and they
include the theory of nationalism, creation of the corps system and leading disciplined and
professional armies.
The principle of the theory of nationalism is all about being patriotic. Napoleon used this principle
during his time and it is highly implemented by military today. Nationalism refers to being loyal
and devoted to one s

My Experience, Math, And Literacy Experiences In...
All throughout the summer of 2016, my time was spent volunteering at the Chinese Christian
Mission kid s summer camp. After my summer vacation ended, I found myself genuinely
appreciating the accompaniment of children and wanting to continue my involvement with them. I
sought out for more opportunities to work with children and discovered an after school homework
club through a friend s Facebook post. After reading up on their website, I was interested in helping
elementary school students develop essential math and literacy skills. It was my objective to
enhance their self esteem through improvement in academic skills and ignite a passion for learning
in a safe and caring environment. Starting out first as a tutor, then becoming coordinator, I have
volunteered with Learning Buddies Network for more than a year now.
Being a tutor for two terms, I helped elementary students who struggled with math to learn the
fundamentals. My buddy, Jacob, had struggled with ADHD and math for a majority of his grade
school life. Upon meeting him, it was clear that he had a sense of dread towards math and me, as
I was the one teaching him math. His dislike for math was exhibited when he filled out the first
evaluation test of the term; he had scored his fondness of math a 1 out of 5. Initially, it was
difficult to attain his attention for more than minutes at a time, and he was generally
disinterested in the content I was teaching him. However, as time went on, I got to know Jacob.
I discovered his two favourite things in the world: art and food. My learning curve was steep as
I quickly adjusted my teaching style to match his interests. I motivated him with small snacks at
the end of each question set and gave him periodic breaks. In these breaks I felt that we an
invaluable had a bonding moment because we shared the common interest of art. I was touched
to see his joy and admiration when I was able to draw his favourite Pokemon for him. At the end
of the two terms he filled out the evaluation test again, this time scoring his fondness of math a 3
out of 5. Though it may not seem like a high score for the average student, it was a vast
improvement from his 1 out of 5 and meant a great deal to both him and I. Experiencing

Summary Of When Sophie Gets Angry By Molly Bang
Introduction I chose to read my chosen student the book, When Sophie Gets Angry Really,
Really Angry...by Molly Bang. I thought this would be an appropriate book to read because my
selected child has the most difficulty in the area of emotional development, and often cannot
appropriately express his emotions. I have observed on several occasions the child becoming
angry and then acting out negative behaviors such as; kicking, screaming, hitting, and punching.
Book Description The first event that makes the main character Sophie very angry is when her
sister snatches her stuffed animal gorilla from and exclaims that it is now her turn to play with
the toy. When Sophie protests, their mother tells Sophie it is her sister s turn, and then Sophie
falls over a chair. When Sophie becomes angry she kicks and screams and wants to, smash the
world to smithereens. The author then uses analogies to describe Sophie s anger by writing that
Sophie let out a red roar, and that she is a volcano ready to explode. Sophie then runs and runs
until she cannot run anymore and then starts to cry. Sophie is then comforted when she climbs a
big beech tree and feels the breeze in her hair and watches the waves in the water. After she has
calmed herself down, she climbs down from the tree... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I asked, Can you place a sticker on our thermometer that shows me how angry you feel when one
of your friend takes away your toy or something else that you are using? He placed a red sticker on
really angry. I repeated this process with these questions, How would you feel if your friend
called you a mean name? How about if your friend cut you when we line up to go outside? How
would you feel if Miss C or one of your friends said you did something you did not do? These are
the most common situations in which the student becomes very angry and expresses negative
behaviors. He placed all of his stickers between angry and really

  • 2. Holden Caulfield Psychoanalysis The human mind is a complicated paradox, which has been trying to be deciphered by scientists, psychiatrists, philosophers and many other professionals since the dawn of civilization. The psychoanalytic theory was laid out by Sigmund Freud, which mainly focuses on various psychological types and principles present within different works of literature. (Sousa) The novel, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger can be analyzed from a psychoanalytic critical perspective as various subconscious human actions are portrayed through the protagonist of the story. The book reveals how the narrator and the main character, Holden Caulfield goes through different phases of emotional states in order to discover the inevitable transition period between childhood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the entire novel, Holden searches for the simplicity of childhood in the adult world. Holden wants to hold on to this innocence and never wants to grow up. He wants to stop the time, so that children do not have to grow up. In his world full of phonies , he considers Phoebe as a place of mental shelter, who symbolizes the purity of childhood. Phoebe helps him realize the truth of life, which is that everyone has to go through the transition period and experience the reality of life. Ultimately, Holden understands that he cannot protect all the children, which is demonstrated in his thoughts, The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring [which symbolizes adulthood], you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it it s bad if you say anything to them. (Salinger, 211) Therefore, Holden uses regression as another defense mechanism because he denies leaving behind his old memories and holds on to his values of the purity of ... • 3. Marfans Syndrome The likely inheritance of Marfans syndrome is autosomal dominant and vertically inherited trait. In an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern, a person only needs one copy of the dominant allele from one parent to display the disorder. If they do not have Marfans syndrome, they are not a carrier for the disease. A person who has Marfans has a 50% chance of passing that disease to its offspring, as long as their partner does not have Marfans. If a person with Marfans were to mate with another person with Marfans, the chance of transmission is much higher, at least 75%. We can see by the pedigree that this could be an autosomal dominant disorder in that any persons who have inherited this disorder have done so, vertically, from an affected... Alex and Jane also have only three children, which is a small sibship and may not truly show a 50% ratio, like it might if they had 10 children. It does not seem as though there could be a double dominant genotype in Alex, causing a more than 50% chance of passing risk, because that would mean that Mary, Alex s mother would need to have at least one dominant allele, which she does ... Theodore Roethke published My Papa s Waltz in 1942 and got the idea to write this poem from one of his books The Lost Son. This poem can be interpreted as an abusive relationship between a sonand his father or simply a happy memory of a son dancing with his father. My Papa s Waltzis a metaphor for a child being beat by his abusive father but plays it off as if it were just a dance. The poem has a simple rhyme scheme in every stanza and it goes abab, cdcd, efef, ghgh. When saying the poem the rhyming comes off as a beat and this can be related to the actual dance the waltz. Over time, one should see both the national and state indexes increase with the state party index lagging behind the national party index. While this is far from definitive, it supports the findings of some scholars who say that the increase in Republican Party competitiveness started at the national level and went to affect the competitiveness of electionsto lower level political offices. A major reason that the state score index lags behind the national index is that the state index includes state legislative offices (and not votes as we have for the other offices included in the MPI) which... The Mayan s were able to write anything that they can say. They were able to turn whatever they spoke into a writing form because of their one of a kind writing system. Another important object found was the Maya Glyph Block (AMNH), which contained Mayan Glyphs on a block. We found that the order to read Maya glyphs is not as easy as it would seem. Glyph blocks were arranged in a grid and they are read in paired columns. The first block is on the top left and the second is to the right of the first. (AS Web) Next thing that major in the Maya writing system was the numbers. Numbers and Calendar were the first part of the Mayan writing system to be deciphered by scholars during the 19th century. Comparable to our writing system and the Babylonians, the Maya used the idea of place value. Except we have a place value that increases from right to left in multiples of 10, the Maya system has a place value that increases in multiples of 20. Instead of the place value increasing horizontally from right to left, the Maya increased vertically moving up the page. The cloud starts out as separate clouds, and is combined by standards and technology that manipulates the clouds to satisfy the needs of each (NIST). An example is like a hybrid course where the material is divided among online and in class, and each load is split based on how much time is allocated to each. There again lies the decision of how the company would need to allocate the cost and resources to move towards cloud computing. Once it is known how the upfront cost and location will be handled, then comes the accounting portion for the upfront cost for the cloud. Just like lease accounting, there are certain criteria that must be met before knowing whether to capitalize or expense the cost, and where to place on the financial statements. To capitalize the cost, the consumer must meet two requirements. First, the consumer must be able to obtain ownership of the cloud (Conaghan). Secondly, the consumer must be able to run the cloud on their own hardware, or said consumer can contract another host (Conaghan). If the consumer meets these requirements, they can capitalize and consider it a service contract. Once considered as a service contract, the consumer will then depreciate the software and label it as a fixed asset on the balance sheet (Depth). This will allow for the consumer to expense over the life of the cloud. Conversely, if the two criteria are not met the consumer must use the expenditure method. The expenditure method requires that all upfront cost must be expensed at once (as incurred), and reflect on the balance sheet as such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. God s Mercy, Compassion, Patience And Love For Those Who... Purpose The Book of Judges bares witness to the simpleness of humans and sets forth God s mercy, compassion, longsuffering, patience and love for His people no matter how depraved they may be. Along with the aforementioned purposes, one of the main aims of Judges was to demonstrate divine judgment of the apostasy of Israel. Israel s continual disobedience to God and worship of Canaanite gods resulted in their failure to experience divine blessing in the full conquest of her enemies. Canaanite influence in moral and social areas lead to the apostasy and anarchy of Israel. Therefore, the oppressors pictured and the powers of this world sought and still seek to bring people into bondage. Judges acts as a warning to those who turn away from God to idol worship. Author Though the author of the Book of Judges in unknown, internal evidence suggests that it was written during the early days of the monarchy after the coronation of King Saul, but before the conquest of Jerusalem by king David. For example, the phrase, there was no king in Israel, is repeated four times toward the end of the book (Jdg 17:6; 18:1; 19:1; 21:25). It evidently looks backward to when Israel did have a king. Secondly, in chapter one verse twenty one , we re told that the Jebusites are still living in Jerusalem. Apparently, that must have been written before King David s conquest to the city (2 Sam. 5:6 7). Lastly, the reference to Canaanites in Gezer (Jdg 1:29) suggests a date before the time the ... Over the past couple of week s, I ve taken notice to the events that have been going on in the world. While keeping the question how can I change that in mind. Failing more will help you try harder. You get knowledge when you experience different situations, because you will know how to react to that situation. Both the texts Flowers by Alice Walker, and Come A Stranger by Cynthia Voigt have vivid examples of how experiencecomes with knowledge. In Flowers, a little girl named Myop was walking through the woods in her own little path, when she stepped on a dead man s skeleton. • 18. The Epistemic Closure Principle By Edmund Gettier Alexander Jerde Phil 312 10/20/2014 The Epistemic Closure Principle The Epistemic closure principle explains that knowledge can be gained by the logically implied inferences between a predicate, based on past experience, and a conclusion. By definition epistemic closure purports that we are justified in believing that our logical inferences are true. Therefore, we can conclude that our past experience (predicate) is a reason to believe a proposition. This principle has been used as the basis of various forms of skeptical arguments against the traditional analysis and inductive/deductive reasoning. Such an example was presented by Edmund Gettier, whose arguments question if we are justified in believing our beliefs as knowledge. Also, Hume questioned if we can really trust inductive /deductive reasoning. In the following I will argue that even though, Gettier s arguments hold some truth, we are still caused to conclude that the epistemic closure is a logical necessity and true. The epistemic closure principle states that knowledge can be gained by acceptance of predicates logically implied relationship with their conclusions. Epistemic closure entails that, deductive and logical reasoning are sound principles of reaching knowledge. Also that, a conclusion (proposition) can be known then by understanding that a necessary logical or deductive inference between a predicate and a conclusion exist. Epistemic closure also entails that we are justified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am fortunate enough to be blessed with such a family that has been able to make friends wherever we have moved. And believe me, we have done a lot of moving. Though we always stayed in the same little town, I dreaded it. Dreaded the packing, the strangeness and the weariness that came from moving. It was tough to be completely jerked free from our home every few years, but it also came with the thrill of a new beginning. Finally, after four moves, we felt like we found our place. We were forever finding new things to climb, new holes to dig, and new hideouts that were lovingly dubbed Narnia . Life seemed perfect. Then slowly, thoughts crept into our heads. Thoughts that made us question whether there was somewhere else we needed to be. Whether there was more we needed to do. I ignored it, sure that it would disappear. Both of these writers have been influenced by The Godfather , its stereotypes, plots and gangster families, and although both writers have both influenced the genre in their separate ways, neither of them have made quite the impact that The Godfather did. However, Pulp Fiction adopted a large cult status, it became increasingly popular and became a Hollywood blockbuster, it did in its own re invent the gangster genre regarding the association of humour and the subversion of the original Godfather genre. Tarantino made Pulp Fiction in 1994 and it was regarded as innovative and different, he plays around with the timeline of the three inter connecting storylines that leaves you dazed and confused, but strangely satisfied. Gender And Politics James Joyce s Dubliners Gender and Politics in James Joyce s Dubliners At the turn of the 20th century, a young Irish novelist, James Joyce, released his first collection of short stories on Irish identity and what it means to exist in Ireland. One of his most well known short stories, The Dead takes a very explicit approach to gender politics as well as the idea of identity and race. Yet he is also paralyzed by his sense of moral superiority and what he believes he must represent. It ends with him being alone yet again. Volatility within Electronic Communication Essay Volatility within Electronic Communication It has been noticed on several different forums for several decades that communicating on the internet can be downright mean. Anonymity, lack of accountability, absence of visual cues, and perceived distance has led to the increased hostility and rudeness on internet social media. This uncivil communication has also been shown to hurt the perpetrator more than it hurts whoever is on the receiving end (Rope, n.d.). As a result, it has been determined that face to face communication is more productive and healthy than communication via electronic formats for all parties involved in the conversation. An additional factor that makes virtual communication so misunderstood is that a part of the message, the sender s tonality and body language, is removed in virtual communication, thus removing a large part of the overall message. Just think about this for a moment, remove eye to eye contact, the emphasis or urgency in the voice of the sender, or even a simple roll of the eyes. People are accustom to communicating face to face, allowing them to pick up on the subtle cues that body language gives during conversation. By not seeing the body language involved, large portion of the message is not sent, received or understood, thus changing the meaning of the message, and quite possible drastically in certain cases. Gardner states in her article, Troll Psychology: Why People Are So Mean on the Internet, that when humans are faced with guesswork and ambiguity, they often perceive it as threatening and react accordingly (page 1). Overall, the message that Gardner is attempting to convey here is, that when important, yet subtle, cues are removed, the human brain reverts to its basic survival instincts of fight or flight. In doing this, the message is taken as a threat, and the receiver reacts accordingly with a negative retort. Not only can communication lack the needed cues given by body language, but often times reader comments following a factual news story can alter what other readers may think about the ... So why not intrigue students by bringing it into the classroom? There is a lot of benefits to having music in the classroom and it helps students expand on their knowledge. However, to bring it into the classroom a teacher needs to acknowledge how children learn. There is a multitude of research on children s brain development. Therefore let us dive into the findings and beliefs of Swiss psychologist Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. According to the Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, Johann s theories have laid the foundation of modern elementary education. His theory of education stresses the importance that the individuality of a child is foremost. As noted above, Pestalozzi broke from the mold of the predominant system beliefs of strict discipline and memorization learning. This approach is more child centered than a teacher approach to teaching. It focuses on the child s needs and interests. It encourages a loving environment and it replaces the authority of strict discipline. Furthermore, Pestalozzi was inspired and expanded on Jean Jacques Rousseau s findings. He refined his thoughts on head, heart, and hands in harmonious unity. Pestalozzi stated that the head forms the cognitive capacity to think and understand. In addition, he stated the heart is the sense of direction and inner dignity within us. The last element, the hands represents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. My Experience, Math, And Literacy Experiences In... All throughout the summer of 2016, my time was spent volunteering at the Chinese Christian Mission kid s summer camp. After my summer vacation ended, I found myself genuinely appreciating the accompaniment of children and wanting to continue my involvement with them. I sought out for more opportunities to work with children and discovered an after school homework club through a friend s Facebook post. After reading up on their website, I was interested in helping elementary school students develop essential math and literacy skills. It was my objective to enhance their self esteem through improvement in academic skills and ignite a passion for learning in a safe and caring environment. Starting out first as a tutor, then becoming coordinator, I have volunteered with Learning Buddies Network for more than a year now. Being a tutor for two terms, I helped elementary students who struggled with math to learn the fundamentals. My buddy, Jacob, had struggled with ADHD and math for a majority of his grade school life. Upon meeting him, it was clear that he had a sense of dread towards math and me, as I was the one teaching him math. His dislike for math was exhibited when he filled out the first evaluation test of the term; he had scored his fondness of math a 1 out of 5. Initially, it was difficult to attain his attention for more than minutes at a time, and he was generally disinterested in the content I was teaching him. However, as time went on, I got to know Jacob. I discovered his two favourite things in the world: art and food. My learning curve was steep as I quickly adjusted my teaching style to match his interests. I motivated him with small snacks at the end of each question set and gave him periodic breaks. In these breaks I felt that we an invaluable had a bonding moment because we shared the common interest of art. I was touched to see his joy and admiration when I was able to draw his favourite Pokemon for him. At the end of the two terms he filled out the evaluation test again, this time scoring his fondness of math a 3 out of 5. Though it may not seem like a high score for the average student, it was a vast improvement from his 1 out of 5 and meant a great deal to both him and I. Experiencing ... I thought this would be an appropriate book to read because my selected child has the most difficulty in the area of emotional development, and often cannot appropriately express his emotions. I have observed on several occasions the child becoming angry and then acting out negative behaviors such as; kicking, screaming, hitting, and punching. Book Description The first event that makes the main character Sophie very angry is when her sister snatches her stuffed animal gorilla from and exclaims that it is now her turn to play with the toy. When Sophie protests, their mother tells Sophie it is her sister s turn, and then Sophie falls over a chair. When Sophie becomes angry she kicks and screams and wants to, smash the world to smithereens. The author then uses analogies to describe Sophie s anger by writing that Sophie let out a red roar, and that she is a volcano ready to explode. Sophie then runs and runs until she cannot run anymore and then starts to cry. Sophie is then comforted when she climbs a big beech tree and feels the breeze in her hair and watches the waves in the water. After she has calmed herself down, she climbs down from the tree...
