INTRODUCTION
• Having a fancy mobile phone is all well and good but no matter how flash your
gadget is it’s essentially useless without a decent data connection. You need
mobile data – 2G and 3G – in today’s modern world, whether it’s for checking
your email, working remotely of posting rubbish on Facebook.
• So, just for fun, imagine a world without mobile data – no 2G or 3G – for a
second. It’d be like having a Wi-Fi-only tablet, but it’d be your mobile phone.
• Yes, it’d be rubbish. But like a lot of things in this world of ours, we’re no longer
happy with good old 2G and 3G data packages. In short, we want more speed –
and this is where 4G comes into play.
EVOLUTION OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY
WHAT IS 4G ?
4G is the name given to the fourth generation of wireless technology.
4G is essentially the successor to the 2G and 3G networks and the mobile technology.
This networks are what our mobile use to communicate with each other and the
internet.
Simply 4g does all the task faster a more efficient than is possible using the older
networks.
4G enables you to access the internet from your mobile devices in a way that was just
not possible.
4G at the base offers speeds about to 86 Mbps for download and 28.8 Mbps for
uploads.
4G also offers faster network reaction time.
Under normal condition, you will still reach average speed of around 20 mbps for
downloads and 12 Mbps for uploads.
WHAT’S NEW IN 4G ?
o IP (Internet Protocol) based mobile systems.
o Entirely packet-switched networks.
o Digital in nature
o Wider Bandwidths 100 Mhz 10 times faster than current 3G
o Global mobility and service portability.
o User Friendly.
How does the 4G gets this fast ?
• Frequency management :-
The way the frequency shared is different in 4G compared to 3G . In 3G
your speed is regulated and limited whereas 4G uses much more efficient
Radio coding this means that you will recive Bandwidth that is dedicated to you.
• IP technology :-
4G uses all IP technology, this is the common language for data system. A
3G network uses different language to transport data over the network to the
customers where as 4G network uses only one single to transport data .
BENEFITS
The biggest benefit of 4G is that it will be upwards of
10 times faster than current 3G network speeds.
Here what ED Richards , OFCOM’s Chief executive, told
Radio 4 about the benefits of 4G.
“It offers much better data services and therefore all
the kind of things you can get on broadband at homes or
in your office and that you aspire to do through your
smart phones or tablet computers and so forth, that is
exactly what 4G services will enable.
ADVANTAGES
Quickly download files over a wireless network
Extremely high voice quality
Easily access Internet, IM, Social Networks, streaming media, video calling, etc.
Higher bandwidth
WiMAX, LTE, and HSPA+ are all versions of 4G, WiMAX is used by Sprint, LTE is used by Verizon and AT&T, HSPA+ is used by AT&T
and TMobile
4G is 10 times faster than 3G
DISADVANTAGES
New frequencies means new components in cell towers.
Higher data prices for consumers
Consumer is forced to buy a new device to support the 4G
It is impossible to make your current equipment
compatible with the 4G network
4G is consumes much battery power.
CONCLUSION
As the history of mobile communications shows, attempts have been
made to reduce a number of technologies to a single global standard.
4G seems to be a very promising generation of wireless communication
that will change the people’s life in the wireless world.
4G is one of those technologics that will change the relationship we all
have with technology and more importantly with each other.
5G is expected to be launched by 2020 and the world is looking forward
for the most intelligent technology that would connect the entire globe.
