Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Personal development courses are widely available today, with each one promising life-changing outcomes. Tim Han’s Life Mastery Achievers (LMA) Course has drawn a lot of interest. In addition to offering my frank assessment of Success Insider’s LMA Course, this piece examines the course’s effects via a variety of Tim Han LMA course reviews and Success Insider comments.
1. Self – assessment
Mid- semester self- assessment
I can't say that I have succeeded in this mission but I am very happy of what I have
got and offer. First I thought that it will be difficult for me to deal with 72 students
and teach them but now I am very confident and I always try to give them the best of
me and what I have. The semester goes very fast and I never notice that now we reach
the half way of this semester. I am still not achieving all my goals that I set for
myself.
First, I planned to develop my teaching strategies and techniques. I tried to observe
other teacher to see how they teach and what kind of methods they use and how they
reach the desired outcomes of the lesson and I did learn from them. I am still working
in this goal since I think that I should know more about different teaching methods
that suite my students and help me in reaching the desired outcomes. During the first
weeks, I focused a lot on how I can make the lesson goes smoothly and the students
get what I want them to get. In the following weeks, I will adopt new methods of
teaching and interesting ways of doing the tasks. I will focus more on how I make my
students interested more and love to learn English. Moreover, I will set some new
rules in my class because I notice that some students are noisy and misbehaviour and
that prevent some students from learning and focusing.
Another goal that I would like to achieve from this experience is personal
development. I am very extrovert person, I like people and I love to meet new people
and talk to them. This experience will help me a lot in meeting different people from
different backgrounds. Till now I have many friends either teachers or students. I like
to know the different ways and personality of different people and the way the speak
about something. In addition, I am learning from each one of them at least each one
teaches me something. Honestly, I learn a lot from my 72 students each one of them
teaches me something. I am always try to be their friend not to be their teacher.
The third goal is professional development. I want really to achieve this goal since it
will help me a lot in the future. This amazing experiences would be very helpful for
achieving this goal. I try my best to improve my students level in English language
2. and some students really benefit from me and they make progress in their level and
some students try to learn which make me happy. Moreover, I always try to get
students engage in the classroom so I always bring some new methods and idea of
how I can explain the lesson for them. I like to change the classroom atmosphere
depend on the topic of the lesson. In addition, I try my best to meet students' diversity
by giving them different tasks that will help them in learning the language.
I hope that at the end of this semester I will achieve these goals. I have encountered a
lot of lessons and unplanned goals which I learn a lot from them and help me to
develop myself.
3. End-Term Self-Assessment Report
The mission was never easy. I noticed that there were many changes in my
personality, social skills and communication skills. I planned to achieve all the goals
that I sat before because I did not achieve all of them. In term of the teaching goals, I
planned to implement different teaching methods and techniques, designed different
activates that matched students level and helped them to achieve more and utilized
technology to show them some videos and pictures. Moreover, I used and looked for
new warp up activities before every lesson also I used many games that could make
the lesson more interesting to the students.
Honestly, improving students' academic level is a very serious challenge. I plan
different aims in order to improve the low achievement; I designed different tasks for
them and always encourage them to do that tasks and sometime during the break time
I sat with them and teach them. I assigned some excellent students to help them.
During the lesson, I provided help and supported them more than other students which
will help them to do better in the task. At the end of the semester, I noticed that there
was a change in some of them and some of them really improved and acquired some
skills or at least got something from that tasks. In addition, I noticed that some of
these students became more active in the class and they always tried to participated
and worked with the group.
The semester went fast; I am satisfied of what I have gave and took. It was a useful
journey, I had learn so many things and I suffered but I enjoyed a lot. Generally, the
experience was very beneficial and I liked it. My students taught many things more
than I taught them I will miss them. In addition, I realized that teaching is not easy
job; it has more responsibilities and commitments and it requires patience, strength,
determination and sacrifice.
