The Case  A one-year old male infant was admitted to Sulaymaniyah Teaching Hospital, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq on 15th of July 2008 because of unresolved cough and shortness of breath (SOB) of one-month duration. Chest exam and CXR were unremarkable, however, foreign body (FB) inhalation was highly suspected, thus rigid bronchoscopy was decided. It revealed a seed in the left main stem bronchus. After extraction of the seed, the child smoothly recovered. 2

Comment Unresolved cough in a child i.e. a cough that doesn’t resolve after one month despite a proper medical treatment should raise the suspicion of foreign body (FB) inhalation and deserves a diagnostic rigid bronchoscopy. 5

The Case  A one-year old male infant was admitted to Sulaymaniyah Teaching Hospital, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq on 15th of July 2008 because of unresolved cough and shortness of breath (SOB) of one-month duration. Chest exam and CXR were unremarkable, however, foreign body (FB) inhalation was highly suspected, thus rigid bronchoscopy was decided. It revealed a seed in the left main stem bronchus. After extraction of the seed, the child smoothly recovered. 2

  • 5. Comment Unresolved cough in a child i.e. a cough that doesn’t resolve after one month despite a proper medical treatment should raise the suspicion of foreign body (FB) inhalation and deserves a diagnostic rigid bronchoscopy. 5
