2. The Case
A 75-years old lady was referred to our
Thoracic Surgery Department in
Sulaymaniyah Teaching Hospital,
Sulaymaniyah, Region of Kurdistan, Iraq
on 1st of July 2009 because of chronic
palpitation and shortness of breath
(SOB). She was subjected to a detailed
diagnostic workup as shown in the next
slides revealing a diagnosis of large
right-sided Morgagni Hernia, for which
surgery was advised but not done.

10. Comment
Foramen of Morgagni hernias are rare
diaphragmatic hernias, usually occurring on
the right and located in the anterior
mediastinum. Adult patients diagnosed with
a foramen of Morgagni hernia are usually
asymptomatic and associated with obesity,
trauma or other causes of increased intra-
abdominal pressure. Plain CXR, radiological
studies of the GI system with contrast
material, CT scan and MRI are helpful in
diagnosis [1]. 10
