A 5-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital with a persistent cough and shortness of breath after choking on a shoe whistle for a week. A chest X-ray showed an opacity in the left lower lung area, indicating a collapse. During a bronchoscopy under anesthesia, doctors discovered a plastic foreign body lodged in the left lower bronchus, which they removed using forceps. After the procedure, the boy's cough improved and he was discharged the next day on antibiotics to prevent infection.

2. The Case
 On 21st December 2009, a 5-years old
boy was admitted to Sulaymaniyah
Teaching Hospital, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq
due to persistent cough and shortness
of breath (SOB) for 1 week following
chocking with a shoe whistle. Chest
examination revealed bilateral
crackles.

4. Chest radiograph showed an opacity in the
left lower zone consistent with left lower
lobe (LLL) collapse consolidation.

5. Rigid bronchoscopy under GA revealed an
impacted plastic foreign body (FB) in LLL
bronchus; extracted by forceps followed by
egress of a gush of thick pus.

6. After Bronchoscopy
 Cough persisted after bronchoscopy for
few hours then started to quiet. The boy
was discharged home the next day on oral
antibiotics and expectorant syrup.
 This case is a further proof that there is
no limit to the types of FBs that could be
aspirated by children!!
