Wind
What can you tell from the picture?
What is wind? Refers to the movement of air over the surface of the Earth. Warm air rises, cool air sink

What do you think he is doing?

Measuring of wind speed Wind speed is measured using an anemometer .
Beaufort Scale Wind speed can be estimated by sight. This can be done by referring to the Beaufort Scale . By looking at the effect of the wind on the landscape and cross-referencing it to the scale, the speed of the wind can be approximated.
How you tell wind direction? Is shown by a freely moving pointer on a wind vane. E.g. if the wind is blowing from the east, the pointer will point to the east.
Where is a wind vane placed?
Where is a wind vane placed? Placed on a high and open place such as rooftop. There is very little obstruction to the flow of the wind. The wind direction can be seen clearly by everyone.
What is a wind rose?
Which direction does the wind blow most often from? Which direction had the least number of day of wind blowing from? What does the number ‘4’ stand for?
Wind rose Each of the small squares represents the days of the month where wind was observed to blow from. The longer the arm, the more frequent the wind is blowing from this certain direction. This known as the prevailing wind direction. The number in the centre of the rose is the number of days where no wind was blowing during the period of observation.
