Sea otters primarily eat fish and sea urchins, consuming 20-25% of their body weight daily as they are carnivorous. They live in coastal areas of the northern Pacific Ocean from Alaska to California, preferring shallow waters. Sea otters are endangered due to past hunting during the fur trade which reduced their population from 150,000-300,000 to the thousands today. Their predators include sharks, humans, and bald eagles, and they will swim to shore to escape sharks.
