2017 saw the conclusion of one of the most significant global projects around educational technologies. The Horizon Report K-12 was published for the last time as the New Media Consortium was wound up operations. During 2018 several new projects emerged around the globe including the CoSN Driving K-12 Innovation project, Australian Educational Technology Trends, and others. Each seeking to bridge the knowledge gap between where education is heading and what will be happening in terms of technology use. This session will consider some of the emerging trends, and discuss some of the expectations over the next 2-5 years as they are likely to be experienced by schools, teachers, administrators and technology leaders. Extended reality, drones, eSports, data and analytics, visualisation technologies, space science and astronomy, new strategies for assessment, and other imminent engagements will be discussed.

With female voices and, in some cases, names, many consumer artificial-intelligence products can reinforce stereotypes about a woman’s role. These stereotypes help to maintain long-term problems of a gender imbalance in the tech workforce. The UK has one of the biggest gender pay gaps in Europe – currently 21% and women are often concentrated in lower paying administrative roles. Women make up 23% of those in core STEM occupations in the UK and 24% of those working in core STEM industries.
There are more long-term factors too - women tend to have less advanced technology skills than men from early in their education. And the effects of these imbalances could be devastating - women are tipped to lose out disproportionately because of AI as roles in which they are over-represented disappear. So what do we need to do to tackle gender bias in technology and how can the education sector help women to move beyond the stereotypes into a glittering career in tech?
This panel - made up mostly or entirely by women in tech and education - will discuss these issues, why they matter, and what we should be doing to tackle them.

E education or e Learning is the process of sharing knowledge through various channels such as e books, CDs, webinars, etc. Its main aim is to use digital technologies to enhance education. This new model of learning is radically changing our concept of education. It has revolutionized the conventional method of chalk and board style of learning. Today, e Learning is adopted in almost all training institutions, in both the public and private sectors. This article provides an introduction to e Education Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Paul A. Evaluating the Readiness to Implement an E Learning Technology to Support Edu...ijtsrd
The study sought thought to establish the preparedness of refugees in settlements to embrace E learning and Multimedia Technology as useful tool for supporting education and learning especially in mathematics, and basic health education when implemented. The study which covered Nakivale refugee settlement adopted the cross sectional survey research design. A questionnaire was administered to learners of senior one, primary six and an interview guide to teachers. The findings showed that majority of the respondents said that they did not have access to ICTs, Majority of the respondents were Ugandan origin and overall the respondents had low experience in performing computer functions. The findings gave a big view of the limited practical implication concerning the readiness to E learning and Multimedia Technology adoption to support education and learning in schools in Uganda. Barriers and Motivators to Implementation of an E Learning and Multimedia Tec...ijtsrd
The study examined the barriers and motivators to the implementation of an E Learning and Multimedia Technology towards improving school education standards in mathematics and health education in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda. Specifically, the quality of the content in the E learning and Multimedia Technology, E learning and Multimedia Technology quality, Support by ICT Technical Staff, Attitude towards the E learning and Multimedia Technology and Stakeholder Involvement were examined using a sample of 297 learners and teachers obtained using Krejcie and Morgans table of sample size determination. A 5 point Likert scale questionnaire was designed for data collection, a tested correlation coefficient reliability of the questionnaire was established at 0.82. The tables and frequencies were used to analyses the characteristics of the variables while the Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationship between variables. The study findings showed that there was weak correlation between quality of the content in the implemented E learning and Multimedia Technology and learners' attitude, also it was showed that, there was moderately strong correlation between implemented E learning and Multimedia Technology quality, stakeholder's involvement and learners' attitude. The motivators to the implementation of an E Learning and Multimedia Technology towards improving school education standards in mathematics and health education in Nakivale Refugee Settlement were established as support by ICT technical staff, E learning and Multimedia Technology quality, and stakeholder's involvement. Quality of the content in the implemented E learning and Multimedia Technology was established as the barrier since it was the only which had weak correlation to the implementation of an E Learning and Multimedia Technology towards improving school education standards in mathematics and health education in Nakivale Refugee Settlement. The Future of Learning Technology in UK Higher Education
At Microsoft it’s essential that we understand how we can support
innovative individuals, businesses and organisations to shape the future – and there is no more important area for innovation than Higher Education.
Introduction
Learning delivery in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is
being reshaped before our eyes, thanks in part to advances
in technology and the new pedagogical theories facilitated by
that technology.
In order to understand more about the ever-evolving
relationship between technology and learning, we spent time
speaking with six of the UK’s leading learning technologists
working within HEIs.
In a series of interviews exploring current practice, changing
needs and key trends, we were able to establish how digital
devices are being used in universities and how cutting-edge
technology can continue to compliment a sector experiencing
fresh emphasis on collaboration, creation and innovation.

Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
