Researching a Jet Engine
The heat engine I chose to research was the jet engine. The jet engine is a heat engine
specialized to use jet propulsion for forward thrust. The first credible theory on jet engines was
made by Sir Isaac Newton. He theorized that a backward siphoned explosion could move a
machine forward at a momentous rate of speed. This theory was based off of his third law of
motion which is for every action there is an equal and opposite re action. This law states that for
every force there is a reaction force that is equal in size, but in the opposite direction. This early
theory on the idea of jet enginesgave way to the later inventors who would use Newton s theory to
make the first working jet engines. In 1928 Sir Frank Whittlestarted developing his first jet engine,
and in 1932 he had the idea of his jet engine patented. In 1937 Sir Frank Whittle finally created a
working jet engine. Meanwhile in Germany, Dr. Hans Van Ohain was working on his own jet
engine unaware of Whittle s work. Dr. Hans Van Ohain began his project in 1935, finished his
first engine in 1937, and it was used in the first ever plane flight in 1939. Sir Frank Whittle is
usually accredited to most of the work on early jet engines because not only did he get to start
working on the idea a few years before Dr. Hans Van Ohain, but Germany was also being very
secretive about their work due to their dislike of the other countries in Europe. Dr. Hans Van Ohain
s work was not shared to the world, but Whittle s was and

Philippines Imperialization
The independence of the Philippines brought a new hope to the citizens that they would finally be
able to govern themselves. Imperialization from the Spanish in the 1500 s, followed by U.S. control
up until the end of World War II left the country hungry for economic resources and trustworthy
leaders. Even with independence from the United States, they were unable to escape from unethical,
elite leaders that were favored by the US government. Numerous citizens and nationalist leaders
attempted to revive the economy multiple times, yet there was always some way it would fail.
Although there were notable benefits in the aftermath of their independence, such as better
commerce and strong leaders who brought economic progress, overall its impacts... Show more

Often, the social order for most imperialized countries are for the benefit of the colonizing country
rather than the people themselves (Scipes). This held true for the Philippines, as their economy was
mostly controlled by the US. In another article, author Kathleen Weekley claims that, the American
administration tried to eradicate Filipino nationalism when it threatened US interests . By ignoring
nationalist pleas for economic reform, they treated the Philippines differently than other postwar
Asian countries; they implemented [reforms] on Japan, Korea and Taiwan, (Weekley) while putting
no effort on the Philippines. Even after their independence, the United States continued to maintain
a close relationship with the Philippine government. However, when they were in need of
resources and support post World War Two, the American government pursued plans driven for
their own self benefit. They were inexperienced with the way of the Philippines and also thad little
knowledge of it. By controlling an unfamiliar country, elites, high class members of the
government, were able to take over and abuse the power. With this abuse of power the elites wasted
the nation s capital on luxury imports and and pushed the Philippines further into economic

Hitler s And The Nazi Party
Hitler s henchmen were those inside the Richstag and other important segments of the German
government. These include Joseph Goebbels, Hermann Goering, Rudolf Hess, Heinrich Himmler,
Ernst Rohm, Reinhard Heydrich. It is debated if they escaped justice or not.
Joseph Goebbels was born in 1897 and became a doctor in philosophy in 1920. Due to his hatred of
the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, he joined the Nazi partynear the end of 1924 to help build
support for the party in Berlin. In 1923 he was given full control of the Nazi s propaganda
machine. Goebbels was elected into the Reichstag in 1928 and, at 1933, was given the role as
the Minister of Enlightenment and Propaganda , which he worked as until 1945. His skill at the
role gave him the nickname as the Poison Dwarf . At the near end of the Second World War
when Berlin was besieged by the Russians during April to May 1945, Joseph stayed with Hitler in
his bunker. Which he was given Hitler s watch as a token of appreciation for being with him to the
very end. On May 1st, Goebbels poisoned his six children then shot his wife and then himself.
Hermann Goering was born in 1893 and found popularity in World War One as a fighter ace.
Winning many awards for bravery and was the last commander of the infamous Richthofen Fighter
Squadron. He joined the Nazi Party in October 1922 and wounded in the Munich Putsch. In 1928,
Goering got elected to the Reichstag before he got back from Sweden. During 1932, he was

Comparing The Pedestrian And The Flying Machine
Ray Bradbury was a science fiction author who has written many stories throughout the 1940s
late 2000s. And to go along with those books he s made short stories. And two of which have
similar ideas or symbolism of his personal thoughts. And they are The Pedestrian and The Flying
Machine . The Pedestrian is a story about a man who is walking at night. He would be
considered normal for us but in this future society of 2053, he is very different. And so he is
arrested for just walking. The rest is just interpretation or theories. The Flying Machine takes place
many years ago in China. As the emperor is enjoying his life when suddenly, he is interrupted by
his servant who informs him that a man has actually flown. When he is taken to see... Show more

Where a character is conflicted with another character s ideas, rule, or anything else he/she
owns. And in this story, the two conflicting ideas are that of the emperor and the inventor. Who
have two different opinions on the same thing. Starting with the inventor, he sees his new
invention, a flying machine, as a thing of beauty, a great accomplishment, and a marvel of
engineering. However the emperor sees it as a great danger, and is too beautiful for its own
right(hinted by the quote Yes, too beautiful, . He would rather have something more simple and
actually good. As his idea of a miracle is, The air is sweet this morning...the sun has risen and a
new day is upon us. Or the sea is blue. That now is the finest of all miracles. Like for instance,
when the emperor asks the inventor what he has done, he replies with, I have flown in the sky,
Your Excellency. Showing how he believes his feat a great accomplishment. However the emperor
replies with, You have told me nothing at all. As from his point of view, there is nothing great about
this at all. Then later in the story, the emperor has him seized for inventing this thing. And when he
is asked about why he is doing this, the emperor shows him a beautiful invention of his own. Which
just shows a representation a good day. Claiming that to be beautiful. And the inventor quickly
replies with, ... I have found beauty. I have flown the morning

Verification
Verification is a procedure where the user scans a formerly enrolled finger, then the system will
perform one to one examination and comparison of the enrollment information against the freshly
scanned fingerprint. If the system decides that the freshly scanned finger matches the enrollement
information, then access will be allowed otherwise the access will be denied. Verification is
appropriate for a fingerprint based logon implementation system where the user enters their
username, and later the system prompts for a formerly enrolled finger (instead of a password).
Identification
Identification is almost same as verification, but is where the freshly scanned fingerprint is
compared with a whole database of enrollment information for various fingerprints.
Identification uses to figures out which enrolment information entry match the newly scanned
fingerprint. Besides this, identification can also reveal that newly scanned fingerprint is missing
from the database.
Compare with verification, identification permits for more adaptable authentication situations.
Identification permits you to implement a logon system where the user scans any of their enrolled
fingers for a single user logon. Identification can likewise be utilized where the system has no
knowledge of which operator is utilizing the system. You could think of it being the capacity to
replace both the username and the password

What Is The Role Of A Father Figure In Extremely Loud And...
Since the beginning of mankind, parents are the ones who take care of their children. It is their
responsibility to nurture them and guide them through life. In Jhumpa Lahiri s novel The
Namesake and Jonathan Foer s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the father figure plays a
significant role in mentoring their son, but ultimately it is their own perspective that guides them
the rest of the way. Yet both author s approach at expressing this are both different and the same.
The lack of a father figure has a significantly different effect on one s youthful mind than if the
father were with them every step of the way. Through the use of perspective and tragedy, both
Lahiri and Foer convey the same message from two very different stories.

In Lahiri s novel The Namesake, she takes a different approach on family than Foer. Focusing
more on the cultural aspects, Gogol questions his beliefs and background. Contrary to Oskar,
Gogol has a father who is there for him all throughout his childhood and adolescent. It is because
of this that Gogol does not have the same feelings as Oskar did for his. He always viewed his
dad as an annoyance, amplified by the fact that they have cultural behaviours that Gogol does
not approve of. During Ashoke s lifetime, he nurtured and cared for Gogol like any father would.
However, Gogol did not have the same influence from his father like Oskar. He shied away from
his parents and cultural background, evident from when he was dating Maxine. It got to the
point where he did not want anything to do with his parents in his own life. As Judith Caesar
commented on Lahiri s novel, Gogol s unhappiness may not come from the problems of being bi
cultural, precisely, but from his own limited self understand and his rational impulse to see
alternative selves as binary and mutually exclusive (Caesar). Being young, Gogol is influenced by
the other cultural backgrounds that he sees. This ultimately led to his confusion and self doubt.
Unlike Oskar s goal of trying to understand his father, Gogol is the opposite. He tries everything
he can to not be like his dad. However, as the story continues, He discovers his

Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Is Beyond Physical For Many Patients
Cosmetic plastic surgery is beyond physical for many patients. Notably, people will consult with a
plastic surgeon in efforts to reshape and improve the appearance of a number of things such as their
breasts, abdomen, facial features, hair, the list goes on. Ultimately, the end goal for both the patient
and the surgeon is for the recipient of the cosmetic procedure to have an improved appearance.
Granted that plastic surgeryis used to improve one s appearance. self esteem is directly linked with
how one feels about their physical appearance. Therefore, undergoing plastic surgeryto improve one
s appearance will help their self esteem. Communication throughout the entire surgical process is
essential. In order for both parties to be satisfied with the end results, communication should most
definitely be a priority. Plastic surgery has been used for over 4,000 years, and continues to be
improved today. India had some of the very first recorded reconstructive procedures, which included
skin grafts and nose reconstructions. In ancient India, these surgeries were used to repair those who
were injured in battle or had their nose cut off as punishment. For instance, Indian physician,
Sushruta, who wrote the encyclopedia Sanskrit, provided instructions on performing procedures
such as an earlobe or nose reconstruction using a skin graft from a cheek or forehead (DocShop,
2015). Reconstructive surgerytechniques continued to improve, many great advances in medicine

Assignment 1: Variance Analysis Report
In order to perform a variance analysis report Jenkins calculated the actual revenues and expenses
and found the difference which was $296,610 in profits. Then Jenkins did the same with budgeted
values and found the budgeted profits to be $606,350. The variance amount in turn is $309,960
under budget. Also, the variance amount for revenues is $32,100. This number is favorable due to
the fact that they made more than what they had budgeted for. But on the contrary, the variance
amount for expenses was $342,060, which was unfavorable because they spent far more than what
they had budgeted for.

The total expense variance was found to be $342,060. The extra hours worked created more costs
than the extra revenue acquired.
This puts the company in an awful position. The budget was not planned out very well. The price
of the billed labor decreased while more labor was done and less was billed for. This is an
equation for disaster as you can see. More planning must be taken when figuring out a budget and
Software Associates must stick strictly to the budget for reasons like this. Numbers can add up
quickly.
Assignment 3: Expense Analysis: Spending and Volume Variance Analysis of Operating Expenses
Jenkins then needed to analyze the expense analysis. Many of the expenses for Software
Associates were not entirely fixed costs or variable costs. Rather, many of the expenses were a
combination of fixed and variable costs. Therefore, Jenkins evaluated the overhead of the company
and prepared Exhibit 3, which shows her judgment about each expenses degree of variability. Due
to the increased expenses per consultant, it is also important to study how costs change with the
additional consultant.
In order to examine the relationship of overhead costs and number of consultants, Jenkins found the
amount of the budget, which was deemed variable, and which was deemed fixed. The budgeted
variable amount was obtained by multiplying each expense s budgeted amount by the percent in
which was expected to be variable. Then, she subtracted the budgeted

Naples Italy Research Paper
Naples Italy
Naples, Italy is located in southern Europe along the coast, east of the Mediterranean Sea. Its
longitude and latitude are 40.8450В° N and 14.2583В° E, which means that Naples never gets
directed sunlight overhead any day throughout the year. Naples has an elevation of about 20 feet
above sea level. This is relatively low, and the city itself is close to the sea as well. This is kind of
scary because the sea levels keep rising, and in the future Naples could be submerged in water.
Naples Italy also is 45.28 square miles and has a population of around 960,000 people, this is the
third most out of all the cities in Italy. Naples was founded by the Ancient Greeks, they resided in

who put the world s climates into several different major categories based on general temperature
related to latitude. The Koppen system classifies a location s climate mostly by using annual and
monthly temperature averages and precipitation.
Naples Climate Classification
Naples Italy s climate classification is a CSA. This climate is typical of places in the
Mediterranean area, this climate is a subtropical climate. The places around the Mediterranean Sea
is where this climate is mostly found. This climate is also found in southern Oregon and in most of
California. It is found in parts of Western and Southern Australia as well and in southwestern South
Africa. Some sections of Central Asia and central Chile are CSA too. This Climate has a dry and
hot summer and a rainy winter.
California and central Chile have the same Koppen classification with CSA. Both of the places
are on the western side of each of their continents. These places have the same climate throughout
the year. During the winter it rains but the summers in both places are always dry barely any rain,
it is hard to grow crops in the summer. There is also high pressure in all these places and when
there is high pressure there is less precipitation.

Mood Of The Tell Tale Heart
Edgar Allen Poe is a widely known writer from the 1800s. Poe aimed at creating a definite
emotional effect and mood in both poetry and short stories. Poe s goal was to make readers feel
horror of premeditated death and, or profound sadness. Edgar Allen Poe s style is characterized
by his use of sound imagery, irony, repeated elements which he uses to create an emotional effect
for his readers. Poe s style is shown by his use of sound imagery in his short storyThe Tell Tale
Heart. In this short story Poe uses the simile, a low, dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes
when enveloped in cotton, to describe the old man s heartbeat. The emotional effect Poe wants
readers to feel in The Tell Tale Heart is horror of premeditated death. The sound of the old man s

situational irony. The emotional effect Poe wants readers to feel is horror of premeditated

Essay about History of Home Schooling
History of Home Schooling
Before public schools emerged, children were educated in the home by their parents. They were
taught arithmetic, practical skills, and to read and write. Some wealthy families preferred hiring a
tutor for their children (Koetzsch, 1997). In the 1840s, prominent leaders such as Horace Mann lead
a movement to institute public schools in the United States (Thattai, 2001). These reformers argued
that public schools would create good citizens, unite society, and prevent crime and poverty. As a
result of their efforts, public elementary schools evolved in American society by the end of the 19th
century. Massachusetts was the first state to pass a compulsory attendance law, ruling that all
children had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many parents followed Holt in his ideas about education and still home school their children based
on Holt s philosophy (Koetzsch, 1997).
The Christian home school movement began in the United States during the 1980 s. Conservative
Christian families believe in a literal translation of the bible and generally have conservative social
views. Public schools and American society are a threat to their beliefs and values. Conservative
Christians believe that public schools are anti religious, dominated by materialism, plagued by
violence, full of sexual promiscuity, and plagued by drug use. Approximately 80 percent of home
schooled children are Conservative Christians (Koetzsch, 1997). By the late 1980 s, many parents
were turning to home schooling as an alternate form of education. By 1998, all fifty states had laws
allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997).
Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling
There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be
divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children
for religious purposes. Pedagogues home school because they believe they can teach their children
better than public or private institutions (Thomas, 1998). Parents decide to home school due to
religious reasons because parents have

Incarceration Of The United States
There are over two million people in the United States behind bars. Incarceration in the US is one
of the main forms of punishment that leads nothing after for people when getting out. Every state,
city, country, all have laws we citizens obey and go by to do best for our country, but what
happens someone violates the law? According to Google s definition of a felony, it says that felony
means, a crime, typically one involving violence, regarded as more serious than a misdemeanor,
and usually punishable by imprisonment for more than one year or by death . Getting caught by
the law, being arrested, doing time in jail makes you automatically a felon once your name is in
the system. What s promised after being in jail is something no one should experience. With this in
mind, people s human rights are being taken away from the minute their hands and arms are behind
in cuffs. For this reason, what our human rights mean is, The basic rights and freedoms to which all
humans are considered to be entitled, often held to include the rights to life, liberty, equality, and a
fair trial, freedom from slavery and torture, and freedom of thought and expression ( Houghton
Mifflin).
In effect, the 318 million of people in the US all have rights that were all born with to allow us to

us. For example, our rights protect us from any harm, danger, and trouble coming from anyone. As

Analysis Of Ark Restaurant Corp, And Bj s Restaurant
I prepare this analysis for Ark Restaurant Corp, and BJ S Restaurant. Ark Restaurant and BJ s
Restaurants,Inc. are rivals in the eatery business. Beside the undeniable likenesses characteristic to
the foodservice business (giving great food services, and a welcoming environment to their
different clients), these two organizations are altogether different when seen through a monetary
point of view. To assess these two organizations, I have arranged a financial statements and figured
also key ratios that will be utilized to show and also further explain these crucial contrasts. As to
their separate 2014 salary articulations, ARK Restaurants had the higher gross net revenue (24.6%
contrasted with the 17.8% reported by BJ S restaurant.) and also book estimation of equity of
shareholders value. Ark Restaurants higher gross edge mirrors the more noteworthy proficiency
with which it can transform its investors cash into cash for the firm. This productivity is likewise
demonstrated in ARk Restaurants higher larger operating incomes margin (11.4% contrasted with
the 8.7% by BJ S Restaurant.). The larger operaing income additionally implies that ARK has
similarly lower fixed cost, in this way giving its management has more adaptability in deciding
costs of their products. The flexibility that ARK has in pricing gives an included measure of

The Wright Brothers
We were lucky enough to grow up in an environment where there was always much
encouragement to children to pursue intellectual interests; to investigate whatever aroused
curiosity (Wright). This is exactly what the Wright Brothers had done in 1899, they have
investigated whatever aroused their curiosity. The Wrights Brothers; Wilbur born in 1867 and
Orville born in 1871, they invented the first airplane that is controlled by man. They were
inspired in 1878, when their father gave them a toy helicopter that had a rubber band connected
to make it fly ( Wright Brothers ), something so simplicity sparked their curiosity. Before they
were experimenting with planes they owned their own newspaper; West Side News, also owned
a bike shop in 1892 until 1896 ( Wright Brothers ), they always thought about experimenting with
planes, but didn t really know how to start, in the back of the shop they would write in their
journals about their theories and wrote letters to their parents. The brothers started researching
about airplanes in 1899, learning how they worked by reading books, Wilbur experimented once
with a rectangular box when he squeezed the opposing corners, it made a helicoidal twist and
something so simple triggered the brothers to start experimenting with their first glider in 1900 (
Road to Kitty Hawk, The ). In 1901, was the beginning of big ideas when they changed the

Immediately, a proposal was made to halt the taking of solemn vows. This development associated
the Church with the scheming and corruption that had been featured in anticlerical literature of the

Work related stress develops because a person is unable to cope with the demands being placed
on them. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is
known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as
more errors. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a
motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform
better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when
they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping
means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your
skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a
tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may
begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. Stress can also result
from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued and lack
recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it, this
may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful
can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what

SECTION I
INTRODUCTION
Sister Citizen; Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America is a non fictional work
published in 2011. A citizen by definition is being a resident of a city, town, state, and/or nation
especially one entitled to vote and enjoy other privileges there. Women in the African American
community are sometimes referred to as sisters . Sister Citizen; Shame, Stereotypes, and Black
Women in America is the title of the book because it reflects and expounds on the African
American women s position in the American society and political system, when it comes to race,
gender, and stereotypes concerning African Women in the 21st century. Harris Perry uses Ntozake

society starts with consciousness and understanding one that oppression, racism, and stereotypes
still exist, to find the positive aspects of African American women trying to disprove those negative

Making A Band Or Start Writing Music
When people create a band or start writing music, they want money. In the early 20th century, artists
were not receiving the royalties that they should have earned. Enter the first Performing Rights
Organization which is also called a PRO that promised what the artist should be earning, money.
PROs were fine until the organizations realized how much money they can earn. PROs exist for a
reason, but the cost of the license, why they are non profit , and why the artist has to sign with
PRO s that make PROs truly evil. In February 1914, the first PRO in the United States was formed.
Music writers came together and The American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers was
formed. The ASCAP sought out artists, composers, and publishers to... Show more content on

But not all of the artists are under one PRO, so the person must buy a license from each PRO
that represents the artist s music that they would be playing (Public Performance Licenses and
Music for Your Small Business). If the person thinks they can get away with not paying, think
again. PROs are always in court suing small businesses for copyright infringement. On average,
the lawsuit ends up being $700 $30,000 depending on the severity of the infringement.
Depending on what license they are applying for, the cost varies. License fees range from $300
$500 and could cost more depending on some variables like if the music would be for a dance
studio or for a church (Public Performance Licenses and Music for Your Small Business). A PRO
might sound like a good thing, right? But you re wrong because the PROs goal is to make a
profit for the company. An organization s job is to make money, and then they pay taxes on the
revenue they receive. If an organization says they are non profit, they usually do not have to pay
taxes on the revenue they earn. PROs like ASCAP and BMI say they are non profit, which
means more profit for the artist, right? Wrong (Why You Should Think Twice Before Joining
ASCAP, BMI or SESAC). Members of the ASCAP earn 86.5 cent for every dollar that the ASCAP
earns. But isn t the other 13.5 cents profit? But PROs do that for one specific reason, to trap artist.

The Misfit and The Grandmother
A Good Man Is Hard To Find authored by Flannery O Conner revolves around the themes of
mistrusts of others and grace. She uses two main characters to depict these two themes, The
Grandmother and Misfit to expound the themes of mistrusts of others and grace respectively. He
depicts The Misfit as a person lacking grace and has distrust or others, including Jesus and
Christianity in general. The story has some intense conflict, because there is also a deceitful
grandmother with her own objective. To further his point, he paints the Misfit as a murderer and a
person who finds pleasure in meanness. A Good Man Is Hard to Findis an excellent depiction of O

O Conner uses these themes to really help the reader see the development in the characters. She
uses three major themes, family, religion, violence, and of course grace. The story opened up
with a family that wanted to go on a vacation. The grandmother is one of the two main characters
in this story. In the beginning of the story the grandmother seems a bit traditional she wants to
teach her grandchildren to respect their elders. She offers some parenting advice to her son and
daughter in law but they disregard her ideas. It is obvious she still has a large say in what
happens in the family because the family ends up vacationing where she wants to. Then of
course there is the Misfit his character in this story is a multifaceted one. On the surface he is a
criminal an outcast even. It is clear he has doubt in himself he feels like he doesn t fit in
anywhere, he has no family and he is alone, which makes him seem like a maddened individual.
Religion was brought up earlier and again O Conner made it clear that there were references to
Christianity. The grandmother is trying to convince the Misfit to have mercy on her and her family
she tries to tell him that he is a good

The Characterization of Miss Brill in Miss Brill by...
In the Bedford Introduction to Literature, Characterization is defined as ... the process by which a
writer makes that character seem real to the reader (2126). In order to do this a writer has multiple
tools at their disposal that add to the depth of a character and simplify roles in a story. This includes
the use of Protagonists and Antagonists, static and dynamic characters, showing and telling, and
motivated and plausible action, as well as many others. The short storyMiss Brill by Katherine
Mansfield is no exception to this and displays the main characterof Miss Brill as the protagonist,
who is confronted with the reality of her existence.
In order to bring us closer to Miss Brill, Mansfield uses the technique of showing, by ... Show more

This is also a nice example of the fore mentioned method of showing, allowing the reader to draw
the conclusion of the situation alone.
One of the most vital elements of the story though is the classification of Miss Brill as a dynamic
character. Being a dynamic character entail that the knowledge about the character grows and that
some kind of change takes place because of the action occurring in the plot. In Miss Brill this
hinges on the fact that Miss Brill spends her time alone, with almost no actual human contact. Her
only means of living life is through that of those around her, she watches their actions, listens to
their conversations and acts like a hidden parasite, drawing her own meaning in life by observing
others, or as she put it ... there was always the crowd to watch (Mansfield 259).
The tragedy of the story rests in that she does not see herself as this. She describes some of the
other people in the park as ... they were nearly always the same, Sunday after Sunday, and Miss
Brill had often noticed there was something funny about nearly all of them. They were odd, silent,
nearly all old, and from the way they stared they looked as though they d come just come from
dark little rooms or even even cupboards! (Mansfield 259), this is exactly what she is. Not only

During the 11th century, the first cases of established death penalty laws were formed. During this
time period William the Conqueror initiated execution by another human being, only in the cases of

Again, it s an honorable position, but a difficult one to defend politically in a country where the

religious view on the subject. Other simply do not have the funds and cannot keep up with the
amount of money that capital punishment requires. Over the years so many countries have abolished

During the last four years of my high school life I came across a number of different teachers, all
of them together had different styles of teaching and some were more positive than others. Be
that as it may, despite the different characters that wanted to mentor me and those who care not

is. The individual will from the start be open minded, compassion, patience, kindness, and is one
that is creative. The individual loves to teach, is truthful and honest about all things. In their
own way they have a great sense of humor. Dedication comes easy to these type of teachers, and
one will found that they are always eager to provide every student with a smile. In addition a
student will found it easy to approach this type of teacher and the student will found themselves
easily becoming friends with the teacher. I, myself found it to be great and healthy to be friends
with one of my teacher because I could trust the individual. To me this is what makes this person,
teacher, so remember able. Always keeping in mind respect is to be given to the individual that is
in charge, not just keeping them as friend. There are a lot of teachers who been taught in a way to

How Slavery In Africa Changed Over Time Essay
Africa was once a thriving and wonderful continent filled with luxurious and wealthy kingdoms,
but that had all changed when a new and appalling type of slavery was introduced. Around the

that were placed far from these buckets had difficulty in reaching them because of the number of

Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously Summary
Julie Powell, the author of her own memoir, was a distraught secretary working at a bureaucratic
organization led primarily by Republicans in order to build a memorial to the terrorist attack on
September 11th, 2001. To further this misery, she was told that she may be unable to have children
in the future. After hearing this news, she and her husband Eric went to her mother s house in
Texas where Powell found an old copy of Julia Child s Mastering the Art of French Cooking which
reminded her of childhood memories of sneaking looks at and moments with books about sex and
cooking she knew she should not read. She was inspired by these memories to cook every recipe in
Julia Child s historic and expansive cookbook, in one year.
The challenge started well with Powell quickly cooking the first few of the 524 recipes in just
one weekend. Powell began to have a new purpose at work instead of being forced to listen to
ludicrous ideas for a national monument, including a football field built on ground zero, and was
more and more excited to go home and continue her self assigned project.

Essay on Ap Bio Plants
1.)
Roots support photosynthesis and respiration by absorbing minerals and water and by storing
organic nutrients. They also anchor the plant. Some roots have mycorrhizae, which increase the
surface area and therefore increase the absorption. The endodermis, which is the innermost layer of
cells in the root cortex, surrounds the vascular cylinder. It is the passage of minerals from the
cortex into the vascular tissue.
The stem has a system of nodes where leaves are attached. They have a waxy coating (epidermis)
that prevents water loss. The stem and the roots are the 2 main axes in a vascular plant. Fluids are
transported between the roots and the shoots through the stem by the phloem and xylem.

They have vascular tissues for long distance transport like the xylem and phloem. Additionally
there is a way for plants to reproduce without requiring water. Another reason is secondary growth
with the vascular cambium. The stem or root will grow in diameter and will be thickened, reducing
water loss and protecting the surface more fully. The different plant tissues (dermal tissues, vascular
tissue and ground tissues) are adoptions as well.
4.)
Water flows from high water potential to low water potential. They have three routes for that: the
transmembrane route (out of one cell, across a cell wall and into another cell), the symplastic route
(via the continuum of cytosol) and the apoplastic route (via cell walls and extracellular spaces).
Roots are another way for water uptake and transport (example: mycorrhizae and endodermis). This
transport is regulated by the compartmental structure of plants. The concept of transpiration is made
possible through adhesion and cohesion.
5.)
The plant is required to be able to work at the molecular level, because (as only of many
examples) it needs sucrose. Proton pumping and the cotransport of sucrose and H+ are two of the
ways for a plant to get its required amounts of sucrose. The plant is also in need of nitrogen for its
organic synthesis. It can acquire that by nitrogen fixing bacteria that convert atmospheric N2 to
nitrogenous minerals.

Too many standards: Cynthia Schmeiser, president and chief operating officer of ACT s education

State learning standards are often too wide and not deep enough. [High school teachers] are trying
to cover too much ground more ground than colleges deem necessary in the limited time they have
with students. (Olson, 2007, p. 20) 2. Standards that are not of equal importance: ACT s 2005 06
National Curriculum study showed that college instructors largely disapproved of their state s
academic content standards. Two thirds of those who responded said their state standards prepared
students poorly or very poorly for college level work. High school teachers, on the other hand, felt
differently, with a majority responding that their state standards prepared students well or very well
for college level work (Marklein, 2007). Not all state standards are of equal importance, and what
students get tested on may not be what is most important. 3. Standards that lack unidimensionality:

Marxist ideology based on the theory of permanent revolution. Also, his organization building skills
and revolutionary military ideas made him a great military leader. However, Leon Trotskywas also
prone to arrogance, fatal over confidence, dismissiveness and sarcasm, qualities that contributed to
his demise. His downfall was caused by Joseph Stalin as well. Joseph Stalin set out to destroy the
old party leadership and take total control. Leon Trotsky was one of the most influential Russian
leaders, because of his political and military leadership and revolutionary theories.
Leon Trotsky helped make the Soviet army a revolutionary force with his military ideas and
organization building skills. As commissar of war, Trotsky established a system of discipline and
hierarchical control, while also emphatically rejecting attempts to enthrone new military

Immigration Is A Foreign Policy Hot Topic
Immigration according to definitions online is the movement of people into a destination country
to which they are not native or do not possess its citizenship in order to settle or reside there,
especially as permanent residents or naturalized citizens, or to take up employment as a migrant
worker or temporarily as a foreign worker. However, in order to understand why immigrationhas
become a foreign policy hot topic, we must understand the history of immigration.
Since the initial settlers arrived in North America, immigration has filled the American experience.
Undeniably, many of the principles that unite Americans as a nation are tied to immigration.
Historically, immigration has not only outlined our visualization of the United States role around
the world, but immigration has also trickled into our interpretation of human nature. One great
Philosopher, and the leader of the transcendentalist movement of the Mid 19th century; Ralph
Emerson saw it best. Emerson viewed immigration as a marvel that will build a new race, a new
religion, a new state, and a new literature in the United States (www.foreignpolicy infocus.org). The
idealism surrounding immigration clarifies in part the profound feelings immigration induces in the
public policy field. These feelings have shoved with anxieties about the economy, ethnic relations
and many other issues. In recent years, however, the discussion over immigration has prolonged to
integrate a wide array of foreign policy issues

Kennewick Man and the Native American Graves Protection...
Kennewick Man is one of the most complete ancient skeletons found to date. The discovery
initiated scholarly and public debate of the legal and ethical implications of anthropological study
of Native American human remains. The Kennewick Man controversy has called into question the
Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) s ability to balance tribal,
museum, and archaeological interest in ancient human remains. Kennewick Man was found on
July 28, 1996 below Lake Wallula, a section of the Columbia River, in Washington. As the owners
of the land, the US Army Corps of Engineers (COE) had initial control of the remains. In early
inspections Kennewick man was thought to be an early European settler because of the... Show

The repatriation process set up by NAGPRRA requires federal agencies and museums to identify
items in their possession that are subject to the law and make inventories and summaries of them,
they then must consult with lineal descendants and Indian tribes regarding the identification and
cultural affiliation of the items, finally the agencies and museums must send notices to the
appropriate group describing the lineal descendancy or culture affiliation and stating that the item
may be repatriated. The law provides federal grants to assist with the process of documentation and
repatriation of the items. NAGPRA also sets up a review committee to monitor and resolve disputes
consisting of three Native American nominees, three nominees from scientific organizations or
museums, and one mutually approved nomination. In addition, there are steps provided to follow
for unclaimed items, unidentifiable items, intentional and inadvertent discoveries on both federal
and tribal land. Penalties for noncompliance and illegal trafficking are also set up through the law.
NAGPRA does not prohibit all scientific study or mandate the repatriation of the human remains
and other cultural items subject to its coverage. What the law does do is provide

Grace Metalious Peyton Place Essay
Grace Metalious Peyton Place
Unlike many other romance novels, Grace Metalious Peyton Place has aroused a plethora of
academic debates ranging from the aggressive promotion of the author s image to the themes
contained within the actual narrative. Arguably the most interesting, yet elusive, theories on
Peyton Place are centered on how the novel fits into the social fabric of postwar America. Many
average readers, as well as literary experts, are prone to identify elements in Metalious novel which
suggest that this cross dressing housewife was out to subvert dominant 1950s ideology, while others
will argue that the book can do nothing else but support the dominant patriarchal structure under
which it was created. A closer look,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, Metalious novel fit into a larger 1950s picture of coexisting viewpoints that both
undermined and supported prevailing beliefs relating to women, including marriage, children, and
sex.
One of the first problematic representations encountered in Peyton Place is Metalious portrayal
of women who have never married. While negative portrayals of such women may seem
outrageous to readers today, they could not have shocked readers of the postwar era in which
over 70% of all men and women married. Women who did not fulfill the rite of marriage were
consequently in the minority. Metalious depiction of the character of Miss Hester Goodale is
the harshest representation of this lonely marginalized group. When she is discussed by Allison
and Norman, in spite of Allison s reassurance that Miss Hester won t hurt you, she lets herself
imagine the aging, single woman as sinister and strange (Metalious 63). It is decided that she is
as loony as they come, (Metalious 65) and possibly even a witch whom neighbors might
overhear chanting as she stirs her witch s brew (Metalious 64). Later in the novel, Allison writes
a short story in which Miss Hester is a witch who keeps her dead lover s bones in her cellar
(Metalious 184). Furthermore, not only is the MISS Hester Goodale a crazy witch, but the town
says that their broken hearted neighbor is only waiting to die (Metalious 67), clearly without any
valid reason

This paper presents a review of an advanced topic in engineering management. It should consist of
one paragraph giving a concise summary of the material in the article below. Replace the title,
authors, and addresses with your own title, authors, and addresses. You may have as many authors
and addresses as you like. It is preferable not to use footnotes in the abstract or the title; the
acknowledgments of funding bodies etc. are to be placed in a separate section at the end of the text.

1.1.Overview of knowledge management in software company s their principle resources are not
plants, structures, or costly machines, instead its primary resource could be regarded as its
intellectual capital, as it is in areas, for example, counselling, law, finance and advertising. The
significant issue with scholarly capital is that it has legs and strolls home each day. At the same
rate experience exits the entryway, fresh graduates with little or no experience strolls in the door.
Regardless of whether numerous software companies acknowledge it, they confront the test of
supporting the level of expertise expected to win contracts and satisfy endeavors (Rus and Lindvall
2002).

PSYC 341 Carl Jung s Theory of Analytical Psychology
Psychology of Personality

A. M. Barnett
January 17, 2006
Abstract
Carl Gustav Jung was bone July 26, 1875 (Feist and Feist, 2002). He was blessed to be surrounded
by an educated family, including clergymen. Carl Jung as a young man was a colleague of Freud.
His life s work was exploring the unconscious. Freud s theory of the unconscious made the
unconscious sound unpleasant. It involved crazy desires, incestuous cravings, and frightening
experiences that would come back to haunt a person. Based on Freud s theory, one would
understandably be terrified of making the unconscious conscious. Jung, ... Show more content on

Jung observed psychotic patients as they were confronted with the task of responding to a list of 50
words. He compared their delusional ideas to myths trying to understand them. Shortly after, he left
the hospital position, and broke away from Freud. He began to analyze his own dreams and
fantasies in order to further confirm this hypothetical other layer of the unconscious. He began to
focus on broader collective elements he called archetypes. Jung believed that archetypes had a
regulatory function beyond the sexual drive. His primary treatment for his patients involved
treatment of their unconscious. Jung believed that the archetypal images were the principal
structural elements of the unconscious that was express in myths and other collective narratives.
His major therapeutic technique was drawing parallels between the archetypal images and his
patients dreams and fantasies. Delving into psychology more in depth initiated speculations by
Freud and Jung and left the specific synaptic and neural materialization of unconscious processes to
be inferred. In an attempt to avoid the problem of dualistic thinking and of treating the mind as
separate from the body without relying on known data, Jung s speculation about unconscious
archetypes united drives and spirit, matter and psyche, reached for solutions tying human behavior
to genetic predispositions. (Ekstrom, 2004) Jung believed that people retreated into infantile

Washington State Symbols
The United States Congress consists of two chambers; the Senate and the House of
Representatives (O Connor, Sabato, Yanus, 2015). Congress is the legislative branch of
government with a primary goal of creating the laws as well as to represent the people s interest
in national politics (O Connor et al., 2015). Each of the 50 states gets its share of 435
representatives based upon its population in which a constitutionally delegated process also known
as apportionment adjusts the number of seats allotted to each state accordingly following a U.S.
Census decennial (O Connor et al., 2015).
The State of Washington officially became the 42nd state to be part of the Union in 1889 and the
only state in the United States named after one of the nation s president (Wash. Rev. Code В§
1.20.080 (1967)). Washington State s richly green landscapes is the result of its vast amount of
rainfall annually ( Why is Washington, 2016). The state s unofficial nickname The Evergreen State

Use Pop Ups to Your Advantage Use a pop up on your site to add users to your email list. This
method is effective for rounding up lots of useful leads. Make sure you have a message in your
pop up that is catchy and consise. That way, the people who visit your site will likley be
interested in your business and you will gain quality leads. Social Metrics Leverage your
followers to establish your brand as an industry expert. When readers see how many followers
and positive ratings you have on various social media platforms, they will realize the value you
have to offer. Make your numbers look impressive by combining them. For example, instead of
saying you have 10,000 followers each on FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn, go with 30,000
followers on social media. The higher the number you provide, the more impressive it will be.
So, put your followers to work for your brand when you solicit emails for your subscription list.
Play Up Your Client List In the same way the number of of followers you have serves as an
endorsement, your client list can help garner interest in your company. This strategy is particularly
effective if you have worked with leading brands in your industry. Name dropping well known
brands sends the message that your company is effective and amongst the leaders in your industry.
Often, this strategy can be enough to entice users to sign up for your

Thomas Friedman’S Introduction Started With A Brief History
Thomas Friedman s introduction started with a brief history of how we found out that the world is
round. He then went from talking about the 1400s to the present time and finished his paragraph
with The world is flat. (Pg.33). Obviously, we all know that the world is round, so this caught my
attention because I wanted to understand what he was about to explain. He spoke about how
technology and globalizationchanged people s lives and many people didn t realize it. His first two
paragraphs were difficult for me to understand because I was mainly visualizing the historic events.
And I couldn t see how he related globalization to the earth being round or flat.
In Friedman s globalization analyses, he was referring in a general aspect ... Show more content on

Businesses now work more effective and cheap due to the competitive prices of resources that
have become more easily accessible. In the business sector a globalization effect that has
personally affected me is the advancement in transportation. We have jet engines, container ships
that move product from country to another. Depending on which perspective I m seeing through
globalization, it is either a pro or a con. If I see transportation globalization as an employee then
it is a con for myself, because jobs are being given to people in other countries for less. Then from
a consumer perspective, I benefit from transportation globalization because now the product is
cheaper and now I am paying less.
On a daily basis transportation globalization affects me on a more personal level. For example,
when I order something online and the store doesn t have the item on stock then they will use the
internet to strategize supply and demand to a certain area. And then as soon as I order my item,
the store will instantly deliver my item either to my shipping address or to the closest store
available to me. Another way that transportation globalization affects me directly is through the use
of mobile applications such as Uber and Lyft. Through the use of these applications, I can get
transportation rides from one destination to another. We have rental vehicles at our commodity and
there is even a specific mobile application where we can rent another person s vehicle

Lake Mountain Research Paper
On Sunday morning, Mum and Dad decided to bring us to toboggan at Lake Mountain. We woke
up at 7:45am in the morning, got changed and started our journey to Lake Mountain. As we were
driving along Plenty Rd, we stopped at the Bundoora Hungry Jacks for breakfast. Although, the
bacon egg muffin was crispy, it didn t have the same taste as the normal muffin. Despite this, we
continued our trip to Lake Mountain. Our adventure to Lake Mountain consisted of many winding
roads and narrow roads. After two hours of driving, we reached Fernshaw and the fog was
thickening but soon after, we reached Marysville. In Marysville, we hired toboggans and snow
boots from the local store. After that, we made our way up the mountain and saw huge piles of
snow along the side of the road. On the top of the mountain, we paid a car entry of $57 and parked
the car in the car park.
We changed into our ski attire and headed towards the Village , where the main toboggan slope
was. We had a few goes down the mountain and experienced many different difficulties along the
way. After 20 minutes worth of fun, we headed down to the Koala Creek. The Koala Creek was a
tobogganing slope made out of dry ice and had a few rocky and slippery areas. It also had some
bumps and dips towards the end of the slope. We had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Queueing Theory In Hospital Management
Applications of queueing theory in hospital management: a literature review
Abstract
This paper reviews the applications and usage of the queueing theory in the aspect of health care
management problems. This paper review presents a way of optimizing the use of hospital
resources in order to improve hospital care. A queueing model is used to determine the main
characteristics of the access of patients to hospital beds, such as mean bed occupancy and the
probability that hospital care demand is lost because all beds are occupied. The aim of this paper
review is to provide detailed information to analysts who are interested in using queueing theory to
model a health care process and want to look into a technique for optimizing the number of beds in
order to maintain an acceptable delay probability at a sufficiently low level.

What Is The Tone Of My Last Duchess
Love, death, and infidelity were weaved through the readings this week. In My Last Duchess by
Robert Browning, the speaker is a Duke who is looking at a painting of his last (now deceased)
Duchess and remembering her. His memories are not fond; he was jealous and possessive, and
frankly, a bit of a dramaqueen. His suspicion is evident repeatedly, starting in line 13 where he
states, Sir, twas not/ Her husband s presence only, called that spot/ Of joy into the duchess cheek
. Lines 21 24 boldly say what he was alluding to earlier on, She had/ A heart how shall I say? too
soon made glad,/ Too easily impressed: she liked whate er/ She looked on, and her looks went
everywhere. She blushed easily and enjoyed looking at things, so in his mind she was a bit
promiscuous. He thought his wife unfaithful basically because she was polite. This, as well as his
uppity attitude, are both made clear in lines 31 34, She thanked men, good! but thanked
/ Somehow I know not how as if she ranked/ My gift of a nine hundred years old name/ With
anybody s gift. He thinks that his name alone is a better gift than anything else; he s conceited and
entitled.

satisfaction in participants (Bultitude Sardo, 2012). Atmosphere plays an important role in
marketing, and a cosy ambience helps to make people feel at ease and more receptive (Kotler, 1973).
On the actual day of the event, I was part of the Advertising and Recruiting Team, where were
dressed up in pyjamas and approached passers by to answer a short question and visit our booth to

about 20 people to our booth.
EFFECTIVE SCIENCE COMMUNICATION:
Effective science communication is essential because it allows scientists to communicate
important knowledge and beneficial findings in a clear, easily understood way to the masses
(Burns, O Connor, Stocklmayer, 2003). When scientists are able to translate technical jargon into
plain language for non experts, they are able to dispel myths incorrect beliefs more effectively and
convincingly. This would increase erudition and quality of life in society as a whole, as people are
able to make sound, informed decisions. (Aguinis, Pierce, Bosco, Dalton, Dalton, 2011)

  • 2. Researching a Jet Engine The heat engine I chose to research was the jet engine. The jet engine is a heat engine specialized to use jet propulsion for forward thrust. The first credible theory on jet engines was made by Sir Isaac Newton. He theorized that a backward siphoned explosion could move a machine forward at a momentous rate of speed. This theory was based off of his third law of motion which is for every action there is an equal and opposite re action. This law states that for every force there is a reaction force that is equal in size, but in the opposite direction. This early theory on the idea of jet enginesgave way to the later inventors who would use Newton s theory to make the first working jet engines. In 1928 Sir Frank Whittlestarted developing his first jet engine, and in 1932 he had the idea of his jet engine patented. In 1937 Sir Frank Whittle finally created a working jet engine. Meanwhile in Germany, Dr. Hans Van Ohain was working on his own jet engine unaware of Whittle s work. Dr. Hans Van Ohain began his project in 1935, finished his first engine in 1937, and it was used in the first ever plane flight in 1939. Sir Frank Whittle is usually accredited to most of the work on early jet engines because not only did he get to start working on the idea a few years before Dr. Hans Van Ohain, but Germany was also being very secretive about their work due to their dislike of the other countries in Europe. Dr. Hans Van Ohain s work was not shared to the world, but Whittle s was and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imperialization from the Spanish in the 1500 s, followed by U.S. control up until the end of World War II left the country hungry for economic resources and trustworthy leaders. Even with independence from the United States, they were unable to escape from unethical, elite leaders that were favored by the US government. Numerous citizens and nationalist leaders attempted to revive the economy multiple times, yet there was always some way it would fail. Although there were notable benefits in the aftermath of their independence, such as better commerce and strong leaders who brought economic progress, overall its impacts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often, the social order for most imperialized countries are for the benefit of the colonizing country rather than the people themselves (Scipes). This held true for the Philippines, as their economy was mostly controlled by the US. In another article, author Kathleen Weekley claims that, the American administration tried to eradicate Filipino nationalism when it threatened US interests . By ignoring nationalist pleas for economic reform, they treated the Philippines differently than other postwar Asian countries; they implemented [reforms] on Japan, Korea and Taiwan, (Weekley) while putting no effort on the Philippines. Even after their independence, the United States continued to maintain a close relationship with the Philippine government. However, when they were in need of resources and support post World War Two, the American government pursued plans driven for their own self benefit. They were inexperienced with the way of the Philippines and also thad little knowledge of it. By controlling an unfamiliar country, elites, high class members of the government, were able to take over and abuse the power. These include Joseph Goebbels, Hermann Goering, Rudolf Hess, Heinrich Himmler, Ernst Rohm, Reinhard Heydrich. It is debated if they escaped justice or not. Joseph Goebbels was born in 1897 and became a doctor in philosophy in 1920. Due to his hatred of the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, he joined the Nazi partynear the end of 1924 to help build support for the party in Berlin. In 1923 he was given full control of the Nazi s propaganda machine. Goebbels was elected into the Reichstag in 1928 and, at 1933, was given the role as the Minister of Enlightenment and Propaganda , which he worked as until 1945. His skill at the role gave him the nickname as the Poison Dwarf . At the near end of the Second World War when Berlin was besieged by the Russians during April to May 1945, Joseph stayed with Hitler in his bunker. Which he was given Hitler s watch as a token of appreciation for being with him to the very end. On May 1st, Goebbels poisoned his six children then shot his wife and then himself. Hermann Goering was born in 1893 and found popularity in World War One as a fighter ace. Winning many awards for bravery and was the last commander of the infamous Richthofen Fighter Squadron. And to go along with those books he s made short stories. And two of which have similar ideas or symbolism of his personal thoughts. And they are The Pedestrian and The Flying Machine . The Pedestrian is a story about a man who is walking at night. He would be considered normal for us but in this future society of 2053, he is very different. And so he is arrested for just walking. It is their responsibility to nurture them and guide them through life. In Jhumpa Lahiri s novel The Namesake and Jonathan Foer s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the father figure plays a significant role in mentoring their son, but ultimately it is their own perspective that guides them the rest of the way. Yet both author s approach at expressing this are both different and the same. In Lahiri s novel The Namesake, she takes a different approach on family than Foer. Focusing more on the cultural aspects, Gogol questions his beliefs and background. Contrary to Oskar, Gogol has a father who is there for him all throughout his childhood and adolescent. It is because of this that Gogol does not have the same feelings as Oskar did for his. He always viewed his dad as an annoyance, amplified by the fact that they have cultural behaviours that Gogol does not approve of. During Ashoke s lifetime, he nurtured and cared for Gogol like any father would. However, Gogol did not have the same influence from his father like Oskar. He shied away from his parents and cultural background, evident from when he was dating Maxine. It got to the point where he did not want anything to do with his parents in his own life. As Judith Caesar commented on Lahiri s novel, Gogol s unhappiness may not come from the problems of being bi cultural, precisely, but from his own limited self understand and his rational impulse to see alternative selves as binary and mutually exclusive (Caesar). Being young, Gogol is influenced by the other cultural backgrounds that he sees. This ultimately led to his confusion and self doubt. Unlike Oskar s goal of trying to understand his father, Gogol is the opposite. He tries everything he can to not be like his dad. However, as the story continues, He discovers his ... Public schools and American society are a threat to their beliefs and values. Approximately 80 percent of home schooled children are Conservative Christians (Koetzsch, 1997). By the late 1980 s, many parents were turning to home schooling as an alternate form of education. By 1998, all fifty states had laws allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997). Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children for religious purposes. Pedagogues home school because they believe they can teach their children better than public or private institutions (Thomas, 1998). Thousands of letters of protest met the announcements; the new French state had not only taken control of the revenue and property of the Church, but also seemed to be redefining the boundaries between church and state. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as more errors. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. Stress can also result from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued and lack recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it, this may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not all state standards are of equal importance, and what students get tested on may not be what is most important. 3. • 39. Leon Trotsky s Influence On The Soviet Revolution John McNally Ms. Zbrzeznj Global Perspectives 13 March 2015 Leon Trotsky Leon Trotsky was a man to be reckoned with. Trotsky was a Marxist revolutionary who played a leading role in the 1905 Revolution, in the eventual Communist Revolution of October 1917, and in the Russian Civil War. Without Trotsky s impact in the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks would have been defeated. His own beliefs on Marxism combined with his intellect made Trotsky a target and influential leader in the Soviets. From his studies on Marxism, he created Trotskyism, a Marxist ideology based on the theory of permanent revolution. Also, his organization building skills and revolutionary military ideas made him a great military leader. However, Leon Trotskywas also prone to arrogance, fatal over confidence, dismissiveness and sarcasm, qualities that contributed to his demise. His downfall was caused by Joseph Stalin as well. Joseph Stalin set out to destroy the old party leadership and take total control. Leon Trotsky was one of the most influential Russian leaders, because of his political and military leadership and revolutionary theories. Leon Trotsky helped make the Soviet army a revolutionary force with his military ideas and organization building skills. As commissar of war, Trotsky established a system of discipline and hierarchical control, while also emphatically rejecting attempts to enthrone new military orthodoxies based on partisan ... • 40. Immigration Is A Foreign Policy Hot Topic Immigration according to definitions online is the movement of people into a destination country to which they are not native or do not possess its citizenship in order to settle or reside there, especially as permanent residents or naturalized citizens, or to take up employment as a migrant worker or temporarily as a foreign worker. However, in order to understand why immigrationhas become a foreign policy hot topic, we must understand the history of immigration. Since the initial settlers arrived in North America, immigration has filled the American experience. Undeniably, many of the principles that unite Americans as a nation are tied to immigration. Historically, immigration has not only outlined our visualization of the United States role around the world, but immigration has also trickled into our interpretation of human nature. One great Philosopher, and the leader of the transcendentalist movement of the Mid 19th century; Ralph Emerson saw it best. Emerson viewed immigration as a marvel that will build a new race, a new religion, a new state, and a new literature in the United States (www.foreignpolicy infocus.org). The idealism surrounding immigration clarifies in part the profound feelings immigration induces in the public policy field. These feelings have shoved with anxieties about the economy, ethnic relations and many other issues. In recent years, however, the discussion over immigration has prolonged to integrate a wide array of foreign policy issues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The discovery initiated scholarly and public debate of the legal and ethical implications of anthropological study of Native American human remains. The Kennewick Man controversy has called into question the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) s ability to balance tribal, museum, and archaeological interest in ancient human remains. Kennewick Man was found on July 28, 1996 below Lake Wallula, a section of the Columbia River, in Washington. As the owners of the land, the US Army Corps of Engineers (COE) had initial control of the remains. In early inspections Kennewick man was thought to be an early European settler because of the... The law provides federal grants to assist with the process of documentation and repatriation of the items. NAGPRA also sets up a review committee to monitor and resolve disputes consisting of three Native American nominees, three nominees from scientific organizations or museums, and one mutually approved nomination. • 42. Grace Metalious Peyton Place Essay Grace Metalious Peyton Place Unlike many other romance novels, Grace Metalious Peyton Place has aroused a plethora of academic debates ranging from the aggressive promotion of the author s image to the themes contained within the actual narrative. Arguably the most interesting, yet elusive, theories on Peyton Place are centered on how the novel fits into the social fabric of postwar America. Many average readers, as well as literary experts, are prone to identify elements in Metalious novel which suggest that this cross dressing housewife was out to subvert dominant 1950s ideology, while others will argue that the book can do nothing else but support the dominant patriarchal structure under which it was created. A closer look,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, Metalious novel fit into a larger 1950s picture of coexisting viewpoints that both undermined and supported prevailing beliefs relating to women, including marriage, children, and sex. One of the first problematic representations encountered in Peyton Place is Metalious portrayal of women who have never married. While negative portrayals of such women may seem outrageous to readers today, they could not have shocked readers of the postwar era in which over 70% of all men and women married. Women who did not fulfill the rite of marriage were consequently in the minority. Metalious depiction of the character of Miss Hester Goodale is the harshest representation of this lonely marginalized group. When she is discussed by Allison and Norman, in spite of Allison s reassurance that Miss Hester won t hurt you, she lets herself imagine the aging, single woman as sinister and strange (Metalious 63). It is decided that she is as loony as they come, (Metalious 65) and possibly even a witch whom neighbors might overhear chanting as she stirs her witch s brew (Metalious 64). Later in the novel, Allison writes a short story in which Miss Hester is a witch who keeps her dead lover s bones in her cellar (Metalious 184). Furthermore, not only is the MISS Hester Goodale a crazy witch, but the town says that their broken hearted neighbor is only waiting to die (Metalious 67), clearly without any valid reason ... Carl Jung as a young man was a colleague of Freud. His life s work was exploring the unconscious. Freud s theory of the unconscious made the unconscious sound unpleasant. Shortly after, he left the hospital position, and broke away from Freud. He began to analyze his own dreams and fantasies in order to further confirm this hypothetical other layer of the unconscious. He began to focus on broader collective elements he called archetypes. Jung believed that archetypes had a regulatory function beyond the sexual drive. His primary treatment for his patients involved treatment of their unconscious. Jung believed that the archetypal images were the principal structural elements of the unconscious that was express in myths and other collective narratives. His major therapeutic technique was drawing parallels between the archetypal images and his patients dreams and fantasies. This paper review presents a way of optimizing the use of hospital resources in order to improve hospital care. A queueing model is used to determine the main characteristics of the access of patients to hospital beds, such as mean bed occupancy and the probability that hospital care demand is lost because all beds are occupied. In My Last Duchess by Robert Browning, the speaker is a Duke who is looking at a painting of his last (now deceased) Duchess and remembering her. His suspicion is evident repeatedly, starting in line 13 where he states, Sir, twas not/ Her husband s presence only, called that spot/ Of joy into the duchess cheek . Lines 21 24 boldly say what he was alluding to earlier on, She had/ A heart how shall I say? too soon made glad,/ Too easily impressed: she liked whate er/ She looked on, and her looks went everywhere. She blushed easily and enjoyed looking at things, so in his mind she was a bit promiscuous. He thought his wife unfaithful basically because she was polite. This, as well as his uppity attitude, are both made clear in lines 31 34, She thanked men, good! but thanked / Somehow I know not how as if she ranked/ My gift of a nine hundred years old name/ With anybody s gift. He thinks that his name alone is a better gift than anything else; he s conceited and entitled. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
